User Generated Sunday: KJMarch Returns!

You read that right, KJMarch, otherwise known as Benjamin Mackey, one of the first prominent Ben 10 artists, has returned, and is remastering his old alien art! There's a good chance you've seen some of his work somewhere, such as the five 10k Alien fan designs that became sortof the go-to, well before Omniverse or Tom Perkins would do theirs.

Having posted his original Wildmutt art on May 28th, 2007, up to Terraspin on December 21st, 2010, with a mess of fan aliens inbetween, he's come back to deliver updated versions of his work!

Go give him a follow, he's gonna be doing a new one just about every day!

Did you take inspiration from somewhere for HT Atomix?

The most I wanted to pay tribute to loosely was KJMarch’s design by having the inner crackle form a bit like a skeleton (which is why the crackle splits at the forearm to be like the radius and ulna) since it’s such a classic take on the character. Other than that, no.

Abilities:

Can change the smoke from his sleeves in to solid smoke constructs of almost anything he can imagine. They can transform into claws, swords, hammers, boxing gloves even working guns.

Can shoot solid smoke missiles.

Can create smoke propellers from his sleeves to fly.

When he turns his smoke into hands he is strong enough to lift a small car.

Is very quick and agile.

Weaknesses:

Becoming Joker slightly alters ben's personally like Rath, he becomes more mischievous and child like

Can be silly with his powers, leaving smoke presents around that explode, or smoke wind-up toys that multiply

What would you change about Overflow to make him different from Water Hazard?

They’re so similar they’re practically the same dude, so I’d at least change Overflow’s colors to set them apart visually. Maybe something like a darker blue would be nice, having the lighter-colored water against it would help it pop. Part of me almost wants to implement pieces from an old original alien I scrapped years ago, Tidal Wave

But at the same time I don’t want to delve too far into KJMarch territory and going with the loose water design of his alien of the same name

I think he should have water bending-style of water manipulation compared to Water Hazard. He can conjure water, Overflow is water and can manipulate it as if it’s part of himself.

What did you think of KJMarch's interpretation of Toepick?

Gross lil man, he’s a dope interpretation for a guy we never saw for the longest time. Would love to see both that and the ogre design mixed though

Abilities:

MegaShark is the size of a blue whale giving him enormous strength, he is the second biggest alien after waybig

Megashark can fly at high speeds and carry may people on his back

Can also swim and breath underwater and survive at any pressure

His tusks and jaw are very strong

Can survive in space

Long prehensile tail

Weaknesses:

Holannian's live 1000s of years and grow to be the size of small moons, so it is lucky that he is a 16 year old and the size of a baby Holannian. Cannot use indoors.

Omniverse Sandbox (redesigned)! Lil tidbit under the cut!

This has honestly been a long time coming, Sandbox was always a neat alien to me even if he was only mentioned once. The mystery of his design I'm sure has had fans speculating what he'd ultimately look like. A lot of fans settled on KJmarch's design for years, including myself. It's sort of egregious of me to be up in arms of people using my work without permission, meanwhile I'm sorta doing the same thing by riding his coattails by just using his design and putting it in a pseudo-omniverse art style. To correct my hypocrisy and think a bit more outside the (sand)box, I took a bit of inspiration from Gravattack for the face, and went from there. Adding a few elements that just made me think of sand, such as the pyramids. I like the idea of him being able to solidify different minerals in his body create somewhat denser parts he could use for bludgeoning. He doesn't walk, but much like Goop,he can fly freely through the air by loosening his body to ride currents or slide swiftly.

But honestly? My absolute favorite fan design ever made, a HUGE source of childhood inspiration is hands down KjMarch’s design from way back in 2007. I know it’s been shared around to death, but it was the most creative interpretation for a guy we didn’t officially see until 2013. Sleek, somewhat simple, but unbelievably awesome.

What's your favorite design for Atomix? The Omniverse one of the 5YL one?

No hate to them whatsoever, but I prefer the OV design way more. As much as I dislike more robotic designs, I think the bulkier armor and the retro 50’s atomic age aesthetic work well for the show. Really love the big cylinders on his arms. Definitely would do my own changes to him, though.
