Even in my dreams, I'm holding a controller to battle everyday (laughs)!

In the drama “Semi Otoko” (Cicada Man), he faces a role he had never played before; outside of work, he relaxes through games. For both of those things, once he decides to do them, Yamada gets passionate about them.

The number one focus for me right now is the drama “Semi Otoko”. Since my character, Semio, is a cicada (semi), the scenes mostly take place under the sunny skies. However, thanks to this year’s long rainy season, the filming is not going as well [as we hoped]… Moreover, it is very humid, so I have an extra tough time with my naturally curly hair!  There were scenes where my hair got frizzy, or my hair was sticking to my face from the sweat, and my proper visuals completely changed, you know.  I tried my best and did whatever I could to maintain Semio’s beautiful look, but my battle with humidity had reached the limit… If you see those moments, I'd really appreciate if you look at them gently and think “it must have been tough since this day was so humid".

Before the broadcast of the first episode, I had a lot of fun going on several TV Asahi’s variety programs to promote the show. I did many location shoots for shows like “Aiba Manabu” and “Bananaman’s Drive 3”, which were very fresh to me. Oh, for “Kaere Monday Mikketai!!”, we went on a daytrip to Hokkaido and ended up walking 20km to search for restaurants. The next day, we started filming early in the morning, I think Semio’s face looked tired on that day as expected.

I’m still struggling in trial and error mode for the role of Semio. It is not purely a role where I just have to be “cool”; while the base of the character is “cute”, I have to make people feel pangs in their hearts in addition to that, so it is hard for me… I am well past the “cute” age (laughs). I will work hard to make people who watch the show think “I want Semio-kun to come to my house”!

Meanwhile, the one thing I look forward to on set is Kinami (Haruka) san’s sleeping pose. Since we started filming first thing in the morning and there were scenes where we lay out the mattresses to sleep late at night, when the cameras were not rolling, there had been times when we would be overcome by sleep. In that moment, Kinami-san’s mouth would open and close repeatedly [T/N: Like a fish] when she slept, it was pretty funny (laughs). By the way, [my sleeping pose was weird] too; Kinami-san said “when you sleep, both your thumbs are twitching”. I guess even when I was dreaming, I was still playing games (laughs).

Even in my dreams, it seems that I am holding the controller, passionately gaming just as always. The drama has cranked in for a while, no matter how late I got home late, I would switch the mode and turn on the power of the game console. Although I go to bed more often after I memorize the lines for the shoot the next day, on the days when I finish early, I will go straight to the games room! Recently, I played with (Nagase) Ren a lot. When we saw each other and chatted during “Ongaku no Hi 2019”, we found out we were addicted to the same FPS game, so we started playing online together, although that guy is really strong (laughs). Since he has been playing this type of game since around middle school, his sharp shooting and “aiming” skills are super high. Although I have been gradually increasing my level at defeating enemies in RPG games, I only started playing FPS games for around 2 months, so I was simply surprised by Ren. Also, when I am talking to Ren in the game, how should I say it… he reminds me of Gian [T/N: Takeshi Gouda of the Doraemon series] (laughs). Although he doesn’t treat me like that, when we played as a trio with Ren’s friend and his friend found an item Ren wanted, it was like he would forcibly said [to his friend], “Yo, give me that”.  By the way, this friend is even better than Ren, so those two are always helping me when I play with them!

Even though it was during the rainy season, it was clear for the rooftop scene, and that was really fun!

We did the shoot in a real office, so I was a little bit nervous, it felt like we were invading the office without permission...... lol Personally, I was really happy about having the BEYOOOOOONDS flag made for us!

We shot the scenes where we were walking over and over again......! It was really hard, I struggled with the speed and movement I wonder if I was able to do it cooly......? :O Lol

Today, I watched my recording of "Kaere Monday Mikketai" Where all the guests were everyone from "Kasouken no Onna"~ Lol It aired when I was in Osaka, and I realized that I forgot to record it after it had already finished airing, I quickly contacted my mom like, "I didn't record it...
