OK I just finished typing up a rant about sexism in one piece but it made me realize something after I went on a side tangent about Jewlery Bonney so I *NEED* to write this down in a place other people can see because I am NOT having a 'Karan Bradach has cartoon physics as his magic powers bc as a physicist that's hilarious -> Gear 5' and 'Bingham's hair turning white when he uses his magic -> ALSO FUCKING GEAR 5' thing happen AGAIN before I ever even post 1 page of the comic

So yeah, in veneer, magic is the characters' way of manipulating the story to conform to their will. Because the whole thing takes place inside of a comic book, where the natural force of consumption is the empty white and that's why when Karan 'wakes up' he can walk between panels and break the 4th wall (he's so silly). Does this concept ever actually come into play in the main plot? Ehhh... Not majorly..? But it's been fun to work on so idc. The whole point is moderating consumption anyway. And how you can't have recognition without consumption. Something something I'm kind of stupid and it's a work in progress something something...

So all magic users are, at their cores, reality benders (as comic book characters) because they are taking the flow of the story into their own hands and breaking free of the roles they've been written into. This is also why magic is so colorful and why paint splatters are the central design point of the logo. And why magic is ultimately sourced from the crystallized decay that fell off a rotting unborn creature? God? Idk? It doesn't really matter. and why their planet is an egg that never hatched and why the Underground even exists (the inside rotted away and left the shell and bones), because to me that is representative of potential. and also I scrapped a lot of writing and destroyed things I loved to get to this point AND it still hasn't even been written yet so like. Symbolic.
