@bluesunsdusk asked: 14. because they’re at the hospital again (Sieb and Sombra and Angela)
It wasn’t the best idea, helping two people from Talon. She’d admit that Sigma worried her. He was volatile at the moment, though Sombra’s presence kept him off the ceiling. Almost literally.
Out. She wanted to help him get out of Talon and Angela wasn’t sure if they were serious or if this was a ploy to find an in with Overwatch. On the one hand, they were doing this here in her home rather than on base—Angela didn’t want to know how Sombra got the information for her private location.
And they had to do this procedure in secret, but Angela didn’t have what she needed for this. And, if they wanted Sigma to join Overwatch, or at least have Overwatch protect him, then they needed the Overwatch facilities.
“We need to go to the main base for me to be able to do anything.” Angela flipped through the medical file Sombra had provided her with. “I’ll...see about granting you temporary immunity while we’re there. But Sombra, abuse this, and I will call the dogs, and that’s if I don’t shoot you myself. They’re my family, and I won’t let you jeopardize them.”
“Yeah, yeah. What’re you chargin’ to do this for us?”
“You not abusing this temporary hospitality. I won’t ask for more than that.”
“Then you’re an idiot for not wanting to get more outta me of all people.”
“I care about patients before anything else, my family second. That’s asking for the most I possibly can out of you.”
The ride to base was a long one, requiring night travel to keep the three of them from being seen, together and in general.
She continued to study the holos on their way, acutely aware of the two Talon agents watching her carefully. For Sombra, she wanted to make sure Angela didn’t cross them. For Sigma, wariness of doctors and researchers who would be anywhere near them.
He’d find no harmful intentions in Angela, eventually, but for now, he had every right to be concerned about why she would help and if Angela had an ulterior motive. Didn’t everyone?
When they got there, Angela waved off questions and escorted them to the medbay and her office.
“He doesn’t like to be knocked out,” Sombra reminded her.
“Because of where some of these implants are, it’s best for you to be awake, Doctor De Kuiper. You’ll be...given something to relax you, and something for pain so I can operate. I promise that I won’t put you under unless absolutely necessary.” Such as his abilities going haywire. Aside from that, it was considered a chemical restraint, which was technically illegal if not saved as a last resort. “If we need to stop at any point, tell me and I’ll find a stopping point, or we can pause and give you a few minutes before we continue. Whatever you need, within reason, of course. We’re working on your skull and along your spine. I can’t just immediately stop what I’m doing. It will take time for me to put it on hold and finish where I’m at.”
“Are you okay with that?” A nod. “Okay, then I’ll introduce you to the staff helping me. This is Doctor Maria Karlow, Doctor Steven Walker, and our nurses and techs, Kelly Miller, Lindley Berkow, and Helen Hein.”
“We can turn on music or show or offer you something to read while we work. You’ll be sitting for part of this, and you’ll be lying down for when we’re working on your spine. This is going to be a long procedure, and for that I’m sorry.”
Sombra stepped between Angela and Sigma. “I will be in the room with you guys. Got it?”
Angela blinked once, twice. “Scrub up and change. It’s a sterile environment. And no weapons. It’s an OR, not a practice range.”
“How do I know you won’t hurt him? All of you?”
Angela closed the distance between them in three paces, glaring. “Because I have helped your people before. Those that were dying. I heal and help indiscriminately. Gabriel Reyes, your Reaper? Helped. Doomfist? Helped, though I was sorely tempted to let that vile bastard bleed out. I am a doctor before I am anything else and I vowed not to harm those in my care. Do not insult me or my team in such a way again. We’re here to help Doctor De Kuiper, not hurt him.”
Her expression slowly softened, and her voice evened out. A slow breath. “We’ll take care of him. I promise.” Angela moved her gaze to Sigma’s. “I swear we just want to help, so long as you still permit it.”
Sombra waited a moment before turning and getting closer to Sieb. She hugged him tightly, mumbling. “I promise I won’t let them hurt you. I’ll kill them before they can try. Just...hang in there Sieb, okay? I just want you safe.”
She wouldn’t cry. She wouldn’t cry.
.
The procedure to remove whatever Talon was using to hurt and track him was successful, and Angela had done what she could to make his cybernetics less obtrusive. It was exhausting, and both she and Sombra ended up falling asleep in his room after, Sombra curled up beside him, and Angela in a chair across the room with his chart hovering in front of her.
He’d be okay. Eventually. Sombra would make sure Angela would do everything she could, not that the doctor needed much convincing.
He did seem to be a good man, and she didn’t want anything to happen to him.
Doctor Siebren de Kuiper was a well loved man.

Nasza pościel to u nich povlečeni.
– Ekspedientka podawała "čerstvy", a wtedy polski klient odpowiadał: Nie, to dziękuję."
"Pewien Czech przyjechał do pracy w polskiej firmie w Poznaniu – opowiada Anna Szafirska, nauczycielska czeskiego z Głuchołaz.
