Diplomatic Outrage on Two Fronts
The U.S. denunciation amplified statements from the European Union and NATO lambasting the Kremlin for cyber operations that have: Targeted democratic institutions across the EU Sought to degrade critical infrastructure providers Attempted to weaken societal cohesion and undermine elections "We will not tolerate such malicious cyber activity," declared EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on behalf of the 27-nation bloc, calling on Russia to abide by its international commitments. Similarly, NATO officials urged Moscow to adhere to its obligations and warned of deploying defensive cyber capabilities against further Russian aggression in the digital domain.   Relentless Campaign Tests Transatlantic Resolve For years, Russian intelligence services have waged a relentless hacking campaign targeting America, Europe and other U.S. allies and partners around the globe. While the latest intrusions did not critically disrupt systems, the audacious effort signals the Kremlin's continued willingness to wield cyber operations as an extension of its foreign policy aims. By laying bare the activity, Washington and its European counterparts aim to disrupt the Russian onslaught and rally the international community. "With our NATO allies, we'll continue acting to protect our citizens and partners," vowed the U.S. official, leaving the door open for additional actions. "The rules-based international order must be upheld, including in cyberspace." Sources: THX News, Euro News, Barrons, AHRAM, Euractiv & US Department of State. Read the full article
