I think that Kunimi is more shocked because he doesn’t want baby Ebisu to do “that” than by the only solution that they have. Because it’s Kunimi himself who have said that killing the infected people was probably the only way to stop them since nothing could save them.

So hearing Ebisu says “i'm going to do that” shocks him, of course. He wants his god to stay innocent, and with clean hands, for still a while but realize that it's already too late.

(But we see later that Ebisu is more the one who supervises everything rather that one of the gods who fight)

Mayu is shocked because Tenju has never been that serious before. And he’s not a figther so it’s super new for her. She fought with Yato, sure, but it’s not the same things here.

I think Yato isn't releasing Kazuma because he doesn't want people to forget that the only two hafuri in Heaven both became noras at some point. Kazuma can go back, but Yukine is stuck, so better to get ahead of the social stigma by giving him a brother. They are proof noras aren't a sign of disloyalty and don't deserve the stigma.

Noragami reread: Volume 15 & 16 thoughts

Having another normal one.

I mentioned this my last reread, but poor Yukine this arc. He didn't want to go to Kamuhakari, he didn't want to reconcile with Kazuma, he didn't want to oppose heaven...and then there's The Box which is waiting for me at the end here. He gets punished for doing his duty and protecting Yato, and for other things beyond his control, which is yet another parallel to his life that makes me unbearably sad.

It is also sad how Hiyori, Yato, and Bishamon were all pushing for the two to talk to each other and telling Kazuma to apologize for interrogating a child as he would a criminal...but when Kazuma finally approaches them at Kamuhakari, he ignores Yukine completely because Bishamon has disappeared and that man cannot function on his own. So the apology never happens...CAN IT IN THE LAST CHAPTER. PLEASE. PLEASE.

I didn't really connect the dots on this one before (and this sounds stupid but it's because I read this arc as it came out and there was so much Happening that I was just following along), but Bishamon betraying the heavens was kind of an inevitability. She's been upset with them ever since they killed Ebisu, one of her dearest friends, so she was just biding her time. That's why she told Nana she would give her heaven's head on a silver platter. Her plan was to kill the sorcerer, then let Nana kill the ones who were responsible for Ebisu's death. She didn't care that much about opposing them, and neither does Yato.

Anyhow, she's not given time to hunt trash dad--and this is something I figured out my previous reread, but it's because of Kazuma. He knew where she was going and followed her to the burial site, so when the heavens caught him, they knew who was responsible.

It's so funny to see that flash of the Father backstory after getting the full thing and know that Father blamed the heavens for Kaya's death, yet she wouldn't have run if she wasn't so afraid of him.

Another thing I didn't pick up before was Tenjin remarking to Daikoku that they have all abandoned Bishamon by staying behind. Kunimi and Ebisu are present as well. These are the three groups that offer up their shinki to absolve Yato--because they felt guilty about abandoning Bishamon. What if I cry.
