Goldenheart AU Pt. 4

Finally got around to doing part 4 of this AU, and this time we are exploring Nimona's backstory. Also, I highly recommend checking out the first three parts otherwise some things might not make sense. (If anyone had already read Part 3 (Bal's backstory) I updated it because I think the story makes more sense like this, so I suggest checking it out again!

Well then here we go, Nimona's backstory. And please don't hesitate to add on to this in the tags or replies or send me a message about ideas you might have!

Quick warning, there's discussion of malnourishment at the beginning.

Nimona

Nimona's parents weren't the best really. They neglected their only child and provided only the basic needs they might need to survive, and Child Protective Services were contacted after many people noted how thin and malnourished they were, so they were placed in the foster system

They never stayed with the same family for long, their love for chaos and energetic attitude being too much for many

They adored animals and have often brought home snakes, frogs, etc. They've also tried many times to get into cages at the zoo, which always drove their foster parents crazy.

They had been fostered by these two kind people for around two weeks when a boy around ten years older than them arrived. His name was Ballister.

They had never had to deal with older kids before, much less 16 year old kids, but they assumed scaring him away or infuriating him was going to be as easy as it was with their past foster parents and that he was just an added obstacle

It really wasn't

When they tried getting into the basins at the aquarium, Vivian (foster mother) just snatched them away and brought them to the shark exhibit, something she new they loved and they spend the rest of the day there

When they tried getting into the cages at the zoo, William (foster father) picked them up and brought them either to one of the shows where they could watch birds or into one of those cage tunnels where the lions are all around you

And whenever they messed with Ballister's stuff or stole some things from his room, instead of getting mad, he'd ask them if they wanted to learn how certain things worked or offered to give them the thing they stole (he thought they liked them when it really was just to piss him off)

It was all annoying, the fact that none of them seemed to mind their chaotic nature, but in a way, it was also... freeing?

Before, everyone told them that they would need to act more lady-like in the future or that they needed to "tone it down" basically forcing them to keep all their energy inside until they exploded, usually with anger

Now, they could run around all they wanted and talk for hours at a time about how sharks are cool and someone would be listening at all time

They also really liked Ballister who always shared information he gathered about things they enjoyed and never minded when they corrected him about facts they go wrong

He talked a lot about a past friend of his and swears it was the Ambrosius Goldenloin, but they don't believe him

(They also quickly found out that the best way to piss him off was to play freestyle jazz, but they only took advantage of that a little)

They also quickly realized that they connected with music. Because while Bal preferred the bass and Nimona the drums, those instruments went pretty well together and they always had fun watching videos of combinations of those two

When Nimona turned 7, her biological parents had their rights terminated as they were unfit to care for a child, and Vivian and William offered to adopt them, and it didn't take long for them to agree. It was a long process, but eventually Nimona became their official child, along with Ballister who was adopted by them not long after

When Bal turned 17, a little less than a year after he arrived in the foster home, their foster parents bought him a bass set, and he was absolutely giddy

Nimona may or may not have been sour about it, but their parents promised them that they'd get their drum set one day, so it was fine

Sure enough, around three years later, Nimona got their drum set on their tenth birthday, and Vivian and William never said a thing about the loud banging that could be heard throughout the house while Bal helped them learn

Then, two years later, Bal was 22 and Nimona 12, and they both wanted to help their parents with the rent because money was starting to become rough and Bal saw how it was live on very little money and didn't want to go through that again and Nimona loved their family too much to see it crumble down

They both knew that little jobs at the park or with the mailman wouldn't cut it this time, and they also knew they had talent when it came to their instruments and music, but being just them two wouldn't cut it

That's when they met Meredith Blitzmeyer

Alright, I'm stopping it there, next is Meredith's backstory. Again, don't be afraid to add onto this!

Also, I'm thinking of writing a fanfic about this, so if I did, would anyone be interested in reading it? (I'll most likely write it anyways, but I'm still curious).

quentin + eliot from the magicians! they are my everything; they invented love and when i think about them i want to scream and cry and throw up. don't have any other details, if you know you know if you don't get well soon

julia and kady and penny from the magicians! the arrangement doesn't matter! i also have a fun au where both pennys are alive at once and in the same polycule, and initially it's super weird but they get over it. julia and kady have everything, they were forced together but stayed together on purpose, their history is so tumultuous but they care so much about each-other. kady and penny's romance feels rushed but when they decided they were doing it they were great and i was totally on board (+ rewatches have made a lot of the rushed-ness make sense in character

fen and margo from......... the magicians! this show was sooo committed to making fen an accessory character to margeliot (i refer to margo and eliot together this way because it feels wrong to separate them) that they crushed her character into a little box and still, Somehow, she and margo have like Allll of the chemistry, it's ridiculous. i think about the scene where margo tells fen that if eliot dies she'll take care of her every day. i languish under the knowledge that fen's destiny being textually intertwined with margo's was never romantic to the writers the way it was romantic to me. the king's wife and the queen who also happens to be the king's best friend slash qp??? it's sooooooo good.

i watched nimona a couple of days ago and puss in boots: the last wish this morning <3 i read nimona aaaaaages ago (ought to read it again) and i was so excited for the movie. i'm still thinking about it. nimona my friend nimona. puss in boots was fucking gorgeous, also, it was So pretty

i FINALLY finished paris daillencourt (my beloathed) so i guess i'm back to reading ninth house and house of leaves alternately. though i might bounce around a little and read whitesmile instead because baccano! is one of my favorite series and it's just been sitting on my shelf, driving me nuts because i didn't want to add another book to my, like, (at the time) 3 current reads

i'd say the rain but i really don't like it so it doesn't count lol . i've been catching episodes of sailor moon while my roommate has been watching them, though, and i've been enjoying that!

~ Coraline! (By far one of my favorite moviez, so silly n goofy hgngangfdhhh)

A movie she's known since she was young, this brings a ton of nostalgia and good feelings to Marly. It's honestly not that scary of a movie, and she has the most sweet smile as she watches this movie (Vik is occasionally glancing over to see her face half the time during the movie kgkjlsalk)

~ WolfWalkers! (I've only been able to watch this one on a low quality plane screen w headphonez that didn't work well </3 the art style and way the film was created is so intuitive)

Before the movie Marly is absolutely GEEKING on how good the artsyle and production of the movie is, with Viktor nodding his head as he listens to her. During the movie they're both watching to intensely because who wouldn't wanna watch a movie where the characterz can become wolvez and the artstyle is amazing???

~ Nimona! (WOOO OSCAR NOMINEE!! LETZ GO GAYZ AND QUEERZ!!! i kin nimona so hard you dont even KNOW)

they both end up crying during the movie ugyrhauh (I ALMOST CRIED WHEN FIRST WATCHING THIS MOVIE ARGH), deadass sobbing in one anotherz armz ong

~ The Creator! (a recent 2023 film!! itz actually supa good, i highly suggest!!)

He has heard of the film from Marly, and hence was immediately interested. He loves the idea and visualz of the movie, and watches with lil shimmers in his eyes <3

~ Avatar: The Way of Water! (longahh movie, saw this one w my best friend once!!)

Both of them have never seen the first movie, but Viktor heard his peers talking about it and decided to check it out. He's impressed by the graphics (marly geeked out abt how the directors of the movie made a motion-capture animation revolution by taking mo-cap underwater), and he thinks that the blue ppl are kinda goofy lmaooo,, also choose the movie for the lenght, to keep marly by him for longer asjlkljaslkj

~ The Aristocats! (MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DID A PLAY ON THIS AND I GOT A ROLE BUT THE PLAY GOT CANCLED N I WAS SO MAD)

Viktor would absolutely LOVE the older animated style. Growing up in a poorer area, isolating himself from the other kids, something about this movie would really comfort him. He loves the cats (he is soo cat coded and a cat person), and he would definitely compare himself and Marly to Thomas O'Mallry and Duchess in the best way possible. these two are cuddling on the couch as they watch

:DDDD!!! i like that idea! but in all honesty if you find a deck that’s calling you, go for it-- you don’t Have to use the rider-waite, n if one particular set is making your imagination go buck wild then it’s good!!! if there’s one word of advice i would give you it’s that the ‘correspondences’ that everyone uses shouldn’t be a crutch, it should enhance your readings! if your interpretation of the images is different to the one given in the handbook it’s not a problem, because nothing is set in stone when it comes to divination! the way i handle a deck is going to be different to how you do, that’s the nature of anything 2 do w this kinda stuff! i wish you luck w tarot

(that’s another subtle book ref- have you read the song of achilles?) ive also been listening 2 new stuff, like this song i heard in a department store. theres a lot out there and my Taste is pretty eclectic so if u ever want anything new..... im almost off for the summer! nearly there....
