They did such a good job casting Amy Carlson as Laurie Heineman’s daughter
If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear they were related

Save the Tiger (1973). A disillusioned war veteran has two days to let go of his shaken morals if he wants his small fashion company to survive.
I wasn’t really sold on the premise of this, but I actually really enjoyed the film. Jack Lemmon is always charming, but the film overall captures the themes of disillusionment, loss and delayed trauma in a pretty affecting way. It’s not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s one that feels honest and earnest in it’s intent, and the good performances and loping pace elevate it overall. 7/10.

2018 Movie Challenge | Week 22 Theme: Jack Lemmon Films [6/?]
Save the Tiger (1973)
Plot: A clothing manufacturer faces a midlife crisis and a failing business.
Starring: Jack Lemmon, Jack Gilford & Laurie Heineman
Director: John G. Avildsen
Movie
So I watched this. I always wanted to see it because well, first obviously Jack won his Best Actor Oscar for it making history as the first actor to have won both Best Supporting Actor/Best Actor so that’s special. Also, that title always intrigued me. Having watched it, this is not what I thought this movie was going to be about. It took me a little bit to understand what the title was referring to. lol It also took me almost an hour to get why Jack was nominated for this since it starts off pretty slow & didn’t really have me interested at first plot-wise. I was really trying to give it a chance & was thinking “Maybe this just isn’t for me.” I think when he started to have a kinda breakdown when he was giving his speech at the fashion show though, I realized what this was really about. His character Harry is a WWII war veteran that is still broken and haunted by it & that’s heartbreaking. I get why Jack was so adamant about this movie getting made, despite Paramount’s disapproval of it being a message one. That said, It is admittedly a bit of a downer. There’s not a lot to be excited about. But once again, Jack gave a wonderful performance. I get why he won. Even though he has given more memorable ones, both comedic & dramatic, before & after this film so I’m curious who he was up against that year. Jack Gilford was also good. Don’t really plan to watch this again but at least I gave it a chance.

Save The Tiger - Prime Example of Bleak 70s Drama
Wonderful bleak picture about American business and the fading American dream, compromises in adulthood and the loss of innocence. Won Jack Lemmon a best actor oscar the year it came out, and otherwise seems to have completely dropped off the face of the earth in the ensuing years.
Jack plays the owner of a garment business, in a joyless marriage, and struggling with professional troubles, and wrestling with a moral dilemma of whether or not to burn down his business for the insurance money. Also features Jack Gilford, normally a comic actor, who turns in a nice supporting role here in strictly dramatic fashion.
3.5 stars out of 5
Released 1973, First Viewing November 1989 with a revisit a decade later
