A popping sensation in his ear made Wesley flinch. It was an intimately familiar sensation, more of a memory or the feeling of a sound that most would not have been able to hear. He grimaced at his reaction; it shouldn’t have bothered him. He stood with one hand in his pocket, the other holding a smoldering cigarette, elbow leaned against the window in his dressing room. The window looked out over the gardens, but he wasn’t really seeing any of the brightly blooming flowers; the caress of a cold tendril that followed the pop told him the cat had finally gotten the mouse she’d been chasing. Whenever something passed, a little of the afterlife seeped out, and it was cold.

Wesley turned away from the window to ash out the cigarette, the sunlight shining on his silk shirt; it was late afternoon, but he had only awoken a few hours ago and felt a bit listless after a long night with a difficult case. Part of him wanted to lay abed and read, or work on one of his projects, but the sensible part of him knew a bit of life was needed to anchor him in this world.

A light scratching at the door heralded the entrance of Pritchard, butler, valet, and Wesley’s personal set of checks and balances. A holdover from the days when his father had reigned at Atherton House, Pritchard was an obdurate and over starched mystery. He was omnipresent and ruled over the household with an iron fist. Well, what there was of it, anyway. In his childhood it had been a bustling household, but ghosts had replaced the living in number. That was fine, as he was the only one left and he didn’t altogether require the same number of footmen. Pritchard was a constant in his life, and he had an unsettling feeling that Pritchard would remain even after Wesley was gone. That was a mystery perhaps best left uninvestigated.

Pritchard lay a silver tray on the small table in the middle of the room, with a small silver pot of coffee, a delicate cup and saucer with a wispy silver pattern, a smaller matching plate of crispy bacon, a pot of homemade marmalade, and a silver toast rack holding golden brown triangles of lightly buttered bread. The room was silent save for the shuffling of shod feet upon the carpeting, the clinking of the platter as Pritchard poured out a cup of coffee, and the almost imperceptible static sound of another mage’s presence. All humans gave off a certain sound of energy that you could hear if you listened closely, but mages’ energy just had a certain presence. The more you got to know the dead, the easier it became to feel life energy.

Without a single word exchanged, Pritchard moved to one of the racks that lined the walls of the small room, a well pressed, well organized jungle of pants, shirts, jackets, sweaters, and coats. The opposite wall boasted a splash of hats on hooks, and shined shoes all lined up on racks. Tucked into each corner was a set of drawers holding remaining underthings and accessories. Wesley grabbed a triangle of toast and sat, watching the steam rise from the cup for a moment before catching it up in one hand and bringing it close to his face, drawing a deep breath and letting the robust scent fill his nose.

“Some music, Pritchard. The silence is absolutely ringing,” Wesley drawled. Hooking one long finger through the loop on the cup, he took a scalding sip and crossed his silk pajama-clad legs, the saucer resting in his lap. Pritchard was a man of as few words as humanly possible, and those mostly only when there was company. He didn’t offer up any now in response. Even his magic was quiet and unobtrusive as the very model of the 19th-century vocational servant. The briefest and most restrained of gestures from the black-clad man was the only acknowledgement of the request; suddenly the brassy echo of jazz floated in from the record player in his adjacent sitting room.

Hiding a smile behind the rim of his cup, Wesley watched as Pritchard pulled out the pieces to make up the midnight blue tuxedo he was planning to wear to the Montgomery’s dinner party. He grabbed a strip of bacon and stuffed it in his mouth, wiping greasy fingers on the linen napkin folded beside the plate, took a gulp of coffee and stood, settling it down with a resounding clatter. Disrobing from smooth silk to change into well pressed trousers, Pritchard helped him shrug on his tuxedo jacket and settled the collar into place after the black tie. An oft-practiced spell hastily spilled off the tip of Wesley’s tongue as he stood in the mirror, combing the magic through his hair with his fingers to fall in the perfectly styled waves.

In the reflection of the mirror, he saw Pritchard turn from the dresser to hold up a wrist watch in each hand. “Left,” Wesley decided, holding out his arm as he fiddled with the placement of a particular curl. The more change he saw in his reflection from loungewear to tuxedo, the greater his enthusiasm for the night grew. There was something powerful about a good suit, and Wesley took a moment to admire the smart figure staring back at him. “Nearly ready, old boy.”

Stepping over to the wall of hats, he selected a homburg in an even darker blue, and placed it delicately on his head. A movement caught his attention and he turned to see a young woman float in the open door. She was pale, with porcelain white skin and melancholy brown eyes that took in his outfit as he posed. “Well, Winnie darling, what do we think?”

Winnifred tilted her head as she circled him. It was a strange question, given that her own outfit was woefully dated in fashion, though exquisite in its tailoring. The voluminous folds of her long white gored skirt made no noise as she moved; she wore an intricately detailed lace blouse with a high necked ruffle, and her long soft brown hair was piled on top in the very picture of one of Gibson’s girls. She would have been quite the dashing figure about twenty years ago, and it looked as if she had stepped right out of the fashion plates of 1904. As she came back around to stand in front of him, she gave a small smile and stared at him expectantly.

“Something’s missing? What?”

She reached out a small white hand, dangling a small jet pendant on a delicate silver chain from one crooked finger.

“No, not tonight,” Wesley said gently, and turned to grab up his cigarette case. Winnifred’s brow darkened and she clenched her fist, holding out the pendant with more insistence.

Wesley turned around slowly. “I say! What’s got you all et up? No, of course not. Tonight I dine with the Montgomerys, you know what they are,” he said pleadingly.

Pritchard, doing his best impression of an imposing statue, watched the one sided argument and silent film farce with supreme indifference, waiting for its conclusion to finish dressing Mr. Atherton.

“There will be far too many mortals present. I promise you,” she stared at him balefully, her arm dropping to her side. “I promise. Next week we’ll go visit the Gates, and I’ll have Laurie round for dinner tomorrow. Oh, you poor old thing,” Wesley held a hand out, palm flat up. “Pax?”

Dark Cedar Shaker Exterior

Hello, everyone! How are you today? I spent my morning doing some shopping-therapy and I am feeling pretty good.

I will spend some time cleaning and lightly redecorating my house over the weekend. I always enjoy reinventing each space, sprucing it up with new pillows, new decorative objects… these small changes always make a huge difference and make us love our home even more.

Talking about loving a home, I have been waiting a long time to share this stunning home built by Petrucci Johnson Homes. This lakefront home grabs your attention the moment you see the beautiful dark Cedar shaker exterior. The interiors are equally impressive and I feel very lucky to be able to share this house tour with you today.

Take notes of the many details shared by the builder and make sure to follow them on Instagram. Since the builder didn’t have all the sources for the decor, I will be sharing similar options to help you achieve a similar look. I hope it helps.

Interior Design Ideas: Dark Cedar Shaker Exterior

“We were inspired by the homes on the ocean in Newport Rhode Island. We chose black cedar shake as it represents a classic, timeless look. We wanted to keep the color palette to a minimum to accent the contrast between the black and white trim. Being that the home is on a lake, we added a lighter pop of color with cool gray doors that give a coastal feeling.” – Petrucci Johnson Homes.

Exterior siding is Cedar Shaker siding, painted Sherwin Williams Peppercorn.

The windows are aluminum – clad and came in white. The inside of the windows is Pine and the builder stained them black.

“You will not see a tv or cell phones in this living room as we created a space for sharing with friends and family. For easy access to the patio we have two pair of French doors flanking the fireplace. We used the same exterior stone for the fireplace to keep the look simple.”

“To take advantage of the high ceilings we added antique modeled boats to bring the ceiling down to give an intimate feel.”

“The living room is made for conversing and sharing while the family room is where you will find WiFi and a TV. Unlike the rest of the house where we painted all the wood trim, it has stained woodwork and stained plank wood ceiling.”

“We placed the sunroom in the front of the house to take advantage of the tranquil lake views.”

“The spindles on the stairs have a simple classic Arts and Crafts line. We painted the spindles and newel posts and contrasted the handrail and staircase treads to match the wood stain on the plank flooring. We added bold colored Nautical flags to contrast the light palette.”

“The soaking tub is a nice place to relax, have a glass of wine and take in the view of the lake.”

“We chose shaker style white cabinets with glass handles and plumbing fixtures for a classic spa feel. The tower separates the two sinks creating some distinction of space.”

Boulder wall – We chose lighter colored stones to contrast the dramatic, timeless black cedar shake, with three different scales of stone. The tiny aggregate porch sits on top of the larger stone belt that wraps the house. We used giant ledge boulders to retain the house on the hill.”

Interior Design Ideas: Atlanta Home Design

Designed by one of my favorite architects, TS Adams Studio (previously featured here, here & here), and interiors by the talented Courtney Dickey and Bill Musso, this Atlanta home should leave you inspired.

The homeowners wanted a home with a transitional interior approach and lots of natural light and warm textures while having it also feel elegant. Colors come through the stunning artwork done by the homeowner Leslie Irvine, a well-known artist.

Take notes on all sources shared by the interior designer and be prepared to pin a lot because every picture in this post is pin-worthy! Have fun filling up your boards, everyone!!!

Interior Design Ideas: Atlanta Home Design

The exterior of this traditional home features painted brick, Weathered Granite stone and Vermont Slate roof. Notice the stunning windows and roof line.

This home mixes white framed windows with black steel windows and somehow it works really well. Fireplace is Limestone with a flush hearth.

When it comes to the architecture of the home, the architect, Tim Adams, decided to keep the front elevation of the house more closed-in for privacy and more open on the back elevation to welcome the private yard.

The pool are is surrounded by trees.

How perfect is this pool cabana? I love the architectural details.

Transitional Custom Home Design

It’s always a good day when you start it by seeing a home built by one of my favorite Canadian builders, Veranda Estate Homes (previously featured here & here). They’re truly creative and they often design things that you haven’t seen before. In my opinion, Melissa, the owner and designer, is a trend setter and it’s always a pleasure to share her work on Home Bunch. Here, the designer share more details about this transitional custom home.

“This custom home was designed and built specifically for our amazing clients and their new little one. They originally wanted a more traditional design for the home but after seeing our other project, Elbow Park, they decided to take the interior and exterior of the home in a different direction… a more modern one.

They were absolute dream clients that allowed us to create an amazing home with so many unique and beautiful details throughout. While both clients are busy professionals we only had to meet a few times throughout the entire construction since everything was confirmed via email. Great communication with a lot of trust created an amazing end product!”

This home has a strong presence! Stucco & Trim match to Benjamin Moore AF-100 Pashmina.

Hello, my dear friends. How are you today? I hope you’re feeling well, having a good day and are healthy. That truly is the most important thing we can have in life.

We had a great weekend here. It’s funny because I really can’t believe we’re approaching the end of yet another year. Is time going by too fast just for me or do you feel the same? How do we slow down? Perhaps it’s by doing what we really love more often – and not only what we need to do. For me, seeing inspiring homes with beautiful interiors has always been one of my favorites things to do, and this home, beautifully built by New Old LLC (previously featured here), is a great way to spend my time.

New-Construction Home with Floor Plan

Hello, my wonderful friends. It’s great to come back here with a new post for you guys and I am excited to share this new-construction home and the floor plan. I often get emails from readers requesting to see the floor plan of the homes I feature on Home Bunch, but most architects and builders do not share the floor plan because they tend to be customized for the clients, therefore they keep them private. We are very lucky to have the architect and builder, Todd W. Reed of Reed Brothers Design & Build (previously feature here), willing to share all of the details of this beautiful home with us.

This newly-built home features gorgeous roof lines, transoms and round windows.

Gorgeous roof lines, transoms and round windows add to the curb appeal.

Garage doors: Cedar glazed Stockton.

Garage Size: 908 sqft 3-car garages.

First Floor

Size: 2,928 sqft 1st floor.

Dining Room

The house wasn’t furnished when these pictures were taken but I am trying to focus mostly on the floor plan, instead of the decor in this post. Walls throughout the first floor are painted in Super White by Benjamin Moore.

Chandelier is RH.

Trim Paint Color

Beautiful details can be found in many rooms of this home. The grid board and batten paint color is Super White Benjamin Moore PM-1.

Lighting: Currey & Co – large.

Great Room

The living room is one of my favorite rooms in this house. Built-ins add to the livability to the space while a tall fireplace balances the high ceiling.

Hardwood Flooring

Flooring: La Famiglia Antonietta pre-finished engineered hardwood flooring – similar here & here.

Doors & Windows

Windows & French doors are Windsor Pinnacle clad (exterior color is linen).

Happy new week, my dear friends! How are you today? I really hope you’re feeling happy and healthy. It’s truly an honor to have you on HomeBunch today and I am hoping you will love this “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”.

Located in Watersound, Florida and with architecture by the talented T.S. Adams Studio (previously featuredhere, here, here & here– make sure to see these gorgeous homes!!!), this beach house feels like a vacation just to look at. Now imagine living in it!

What a beautiful home, right?! The Cedar shake exterior with white trim is complemented by a brick chimney.

The Cedar shake shingles are stained in an acrylic paint color, Benjamin Moore Monroe Bisque. Roof is Cedar as well.
