@shadowkat678 Hey. Sorry to put you on blast in a reblog, but I broke the word count for the reply. I hope you don't mind.
"Is there lore out there that says Lolth literally is on Toril making everyone's life hell because actually she followed him there and made an aspect in that realm that WOULDN'T have had Lolth? Am I reading that right?"
So, with a surface level establishment that I am no word of god and just a guy skimming the wiki and have access to some books: YEAH THAT SURE SEEMS TO BE THE IMPLICATION! Worth noting that by the time Lolth came around, Eilistraee and Ghaunadaur were also there, with Eilistraee acting in direct opposition to him. So it didn't HAVE to be Vhaeraun specifically. However, quoting the wiki.
"When the moon elf Kethryllia Amarillis came to retrieve her lover in the Abyss during a battle for the city of Sharlarion, Lolth became interested in the world the elf came from, Toril. She sensed the presence of Vhaeraun, at that time the major deity in Ilythiir, and her attention was drawn there."
What's also interesting is that, despite the fact that Eilistraee paints her brothers influence over the early drow in a negative light, the implication seems to be that while kind of aggressive and interested in power and territory expansion, the Ilythiir were like?? Kind of just an average early civilization, when you take a step back and look at them in the bigger picture. It was Lolth coming into the picture that ruined that.
"Vhaeraun became the most popular deity in southern Ilythiir, as that nation spread throughout the south of the continent, with Vhaeraun as the driving force behind this development….."
+
"…. Despite vastly different views, Ilythiir was originally on good footing with the other elven nations, but Lolth poisoned the relationships between dark elves and other subraces."
The secondary implication seems to be that by the time the modern era hits, Lolth has established herself in all the realms that have drow. Meaning it's likely, with how innerconnected the realms in this universe seem to be, that she would have found her way there eventually. However, something incredibly interesting to note about Vhaeraun in that regard is:
"Like Kiaransalee, Lolth, and Zinzerena, Vhaeraun was prayed to on practically every world inhabited by drow—for example, on Oerth—and had a unique aspect for each world. These aspects were usually different from each other in slight ways, but the one from Toril drastically differed from the other aspects. To be precise, the other aspects were all of a neutral evil god, while the aspect from Toril was chaotic evil."
The implication of that and what it means for what aspects are to a god FASCINATE me.
Most of my engagement with Vhaeraun is "look at this fucking nerd," but reading the page for his realm peels back a lot of his layers in a way that's kinda heartbreaking if you're delusional like me.
Like. Man.
And then. Ah ... That's such a way of phrasing that.
#My HC is that I think Toril is Vhaeraun's personal favorite specifically because of the influence he used to have there#but theres no proof of that that's strictly my delusions speaking#To add to the parts of your reply that I left out#I think theres a LOT you could hold over Vhaeraun's head when it comes with how much he worked with his mother in the early years#Vhaeraun and his relationship to his evil mommy who he sided with so often and always got screwed over as a result of#She was so good at worming herself into his head and making him worse. So much of the lore is like#Vhaeraun 'I think we should just leave the Seldarine.'#Lolth 'No lets kill Corellon' Vhaeraun '... Yeah. Alright. Sure. I guess we're killing Corellon now. I'm not morally opposed to that.'#Once again. Vhaeraun did.... /some/ things wrong
