Louis Bouillot Perle Rare Brut 2008
To mark a momentous occasion or to set an evening gathering off on the right foot, is often equated with a bottle of Champagne, and this tradition is sometimes steered away from, as the price of a fairly good Champagne can be a little cost prohibitive. To this, myself and many others you'll talk to will tout the existence of some fantastic sparkling wines that will knock your socks off while leaving a little cash in your pocket. This weekend, we had the pleasure of tasting such a sparkling, which when guests were asked to guesstimate the price, the closest guess was 60 per cent above the actual.
Louis Bouillot Perle Rare Brut 2008, Crémant de Bourgogne
Louis Bouillot's Perle Rare sparkling wine was made using the traditional method, and is a blend of the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes. On colour, this sparkling gives off that pristine golden wheat hue that you expect from a true glass of Champagne, but what was profusely impressive for us were the bevvy of bubbles that danced in our glasses for a long time, again telling us something about the strength of this sparkling wine.  On the nose, a lovely fruit bouquet is noticed; heavily laced with citrus elements.  On the palate, the expected effervescence is nicely blended with a creamy, buttery and citrus mouth feel, with resounding grapefruit like tastes peering through.
We paired Louis Bouillot's Perle Rare Brut, with a grey owl soft cheese, which only helped in intensifying that unquestionable smooth, buttery feel, each sip of this bubbling Shangri-la provided, from the very beginning.
A remarkably strong performing sparkling wine, and a marvellous way to get that Champagne feel for less at your events.
This sparkling wine retails at the LCBO for $19.95.
We gave this wine a 4.5 out of 5.
