Delta Force - M4A1, 1995-2002-ish (work in progress)
UPPER: - Colt Early 'C AF' M4 Upper - Colt 'C MP' 1:7 Chrome Lined M4 Profile Barrel 16" (should be 14.5") - Knight's Armament 300m Rear Sight - Knight's Armament RIS Forend - Knight's Armament Rail-Mounted QD Sling Adapter - Bushnell/EOTech Holosight Model 450LE - Insight PAQ-4C Aiming Designator w/ Knight's Armament Rail Grabber - Delta Custom 'Gangster Grip' (one of my replicas) w/ Oldgen Surefire Laser Products 6P & F16 Tip-Off Infrared Filter
LOWER: - Colt 'Match Target HBAR' (only because it has the correct 'scalloped' A2-profile buffer tower reinforcements) - Lone Star Ordnance 'Stowaway 2' Grip - Colt 4-Position Buffer Tube - Colt 'N1' Retractable Buttstock w/ John Masen CAR15 Recoil Pad - Boonie Packer Redi-Mag Mk.1 (Oldgen 1st Pattern) - USGI M4 Sling w/ Sling Extension Adapter
There's a lot of nuance to this one.
Quite a few bits are incorrect or just need servicing in general - the 16" barrel obviously being the main bit, but if I change the RIS quadrail to a modified KAC/Armalite-style free-float tube, a 16" barrel would be accurate:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Bushnell Holosights didn't appear with the unit until at least 1998, and by that point, they'd replaced the PAQ-4C with the latest PEQ-2 and later, the PEQ-2A, either of which I still need to acquire:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the years they still used the older PAQ-4C lasers, they would have been using Aimpoint 5000's or Comp M's on Detachable Carry handles (which I hate - fixed carry handle gang represent) or KAC SR25 Risers, which are incredibly scarce, and I need to reproduce one eventually:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In the first photo of these three, the unit member on the far right has an M4A1 with a detachable carry handle. The rest of the men have Colt Model 723's. The other two photos show M4A1's with Aimpoint 5000's on KAC SR25 risers)
Other than that, the lower is probably the biggest pile of dogshit on the entire build.
It's an AWB-era lower, so while it interestingly uses milspec takedown pins, it does not have a detent channel for the front pivot pin, so it uses one of those annoying screw pins until I can send it off for modification.
It also uses a large pin fire control group, which I'm not as much concerned over as the fact that the safety selector detent channel is gaped all to hell. Not sure how one would go about repairing that. I have a few ideas, but not my area to attempt.
The selector should also be a notched 3-position (ignoring that the lower itself has incorrect markings lol), but it has the civilian notch-less selector on there because for now that's the only one that feels "decent" with this lower (but it's still absolute slop city, make no mistake)
The only other thing I'd mention is for the mid-late 90's, the gangster grip would have recycled the same two-screw mounting system as the versions that mounted to CAR15 handguards; the rail grabbers didn't show up until the early 2000's
Tumblr media
But I'm not fucking drilling a set of holes through my Vero Beach RIS, so rail grabber it shall be.
All in all, nearly complete, just a few tweaks to make over time.

Helmets/belt kit/armor;
1. Crye Precision JPC. Beat plate carrier ever IMO. I use a small assaulter bladder on the back. Used for RSO duty and demos in live fire shoot houses and live fire fire IMT.
2. Kifaru Steelhead chest rig. Used for lane walking MIL jobs and also for hunting. Also used for longer scoped rifle classes. The two elastic side pouches securely hold M4 magazines. Also a bladder pouch on the back since this is used without a pack typically only for a work day at a time.
3. Kifaru Rogan belt- used for any MIL/LE pistol job where the customer has a drop leg holster. Also used for OE pistol jobs in wet/cold weather. I wear this backwards to use the pouch for storing timers, markers, tools, food. Etc. Magazines held by High Speed Gear Tacos. Holster is a Blackhawk for the Staccato and Safariland for the Glock.
4. Ops Core Ballistic helmet- used for all NODs course and where required for live fire RSO stuff. I remove the side rails cause I wear my ear pro (also opscore) under my helmet and mount my light on Velcro. I get a better seal with the ears, thinner profile, lighter weight and my light can be used for umbrella as well as normal with multiple colors. NOD mount is always a Wilcox G24.
5. Crye Nightcap- used for all low vis and some OE NODs courses with a mono PVS-14. Slightly modified with a piece of bungee through the shroud, a V-Lite from S&S Precision and using and old army rhino mount to show they aren’t that bad with a mono.

🇩🇪 The German Panzergrenadier Squad consists of the Vehicle Crew and the Rifle Troop (dismount element) with the Squad Leader (Gruppenführer) acting as the Vehicle Commander. If an operation is vehicle-centric, the Troop Leader (Truppführer) will lead the dismounts. But, if the operation is dismount-centric, the Squad Leader may lead the dismounts instead. The squads, mounted in the Puma or Marder IFV, will have 6 dismounts (one less than Jäger squads mounted in the Boxer which is 3 crew + 7 dismounts).
Tumblr media
⚔ The MP7 personnel defense weapon appears to be a standard weapon for vehicle crews in the Bundeswehr, include tankers, IFV and APC crews. It replaced the Uzi in this role. However, there does seem to be some intention for the Bundeswehr to move to G36K Carbines for Panzergrenadier vehicle crews based on promotional displays. As for the dismounts, the Germans run a sort of weapons locker concept where different weapons can be taken out. The Machine Gunner for example can man either an MG5 GPMG chambered in 7.62 NATO (or MG3 if the unit hasn't gotten MG5s yet) or an M4 LMG chambered in 5.56 NATO. The vehicle will also carry multiple Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank weapons which one or more Riflemen can take out depending on mission requirements. Typically one of the 6 dismounts will act as an assistant to the MG, and one or two soldiers may carry an AG36 underbarrel grenade launcher. The HK69A1 standalone grenade launcher or "Granatpistole 40 mm" is also in use.

Early tank production at the Army Tank Arsenal. Photo courtesy Albert Kahn Associates
Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant
This tank arsenal was the first ever built for mass production of American tanks. When World War II erupted in Europe, and Germany began using tanks in its Blitzkrieg offensives, the United States did not have a tank production program. By mid-1940, the U.S. realized it needed an armored force separate from its infantry. In response to this need, the Detroit Tank Arsenal Plant sprang up seemingly overnight in the winter of 1940-'41, on 113 acres of farm land located north of downtown Detroit, in what is now the city of Warren. The mammoth structure measured five city blocks deep and two blocks wide, designed by master industrial architect, Albert Kahn, in the Moderne style. The main building, gigantic in size, was protected by 3-foot (0.91-meter) thick concrete walls against potential hostile bombardment.
Owned by the government and run by Chrysler, the plant received its first contract to build 1,000 M3 tanks in 1940. The government accepted the first M3 on April 24, 1941, while the plant was still under construction. The delivery was marked by a festive occasion, broadcast over a nationwide radio hook-up. VIPs and plant workers cheered as the tank fired its guns, smashed telephone poles, and destroyed a mock-up house. The plant also built M4 Sherman tanks, which have a turret mounted 75-mm gun. The plant set an all-time monthly production record by delivering 896 M4s in December 1942. As the war ended, the government suspended tank production.
Tumblr media
During World War II, the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant built a quarter of the 89,568 tanks produced in the U.S. overall. Its production closely matched tank production of either Great Britain or Germany. During the Korean War, the plant was modified to build the new battle tank, the M47 Patton. In all, Chrysler built 3,443 M47 Patton tanks between 1952 and 1954. During the '60s, the plant produced 500 of the superior M60A2 tanks, which had a novel turret mounted on an M60 chassis and featured a 152-mm gun launcher that fired both conventional rounds and a guided missile. In response to the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, the plant was producing a record five tanks per day.
Tumblr media
In 1979, the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant built components for M1 tanks, which were built at the Lima Art Tank Plant, and continued to build M60 tanks. Because the Lima Plant could not keep up the M1 production, the Detroit Tank Arsenal plant also began producing M1s for the army. In 1982, Chrysler sold the plant to General Dynamics, which produced both M60s and M1s until 1987. The plant was closed in 1996

- More from the Micro Four Thirds Lumix GX9 -
Tumblr media
Given the size of the imaging sensor in this camera, I am continually impressed by the kind of overall image quality one can get from thus system.
For those that don't know, the three most popular sensor sizes in interchangeable lens digital cameras (in order of size from largest to smallest) are the full frame sensor, the APS-C or "crop" sensor, and the M 4/3.
There is the medium format sensor which is larger than the full frame sensor, but I don't include it in a list of popular sensor sizes because even with recent tech advances that have lowered the price of medium format cameras they tend to still be exceptionally expensive (6 to 7 thousand dollars for the camera body alone [at the cheepest]). There are also several sensor sizes smaller than the M 4/3, but they don't tend to be particularly sought out by photographers, and therefore they are not "popular".
The general idea is that the larger the sensor, the more light it can gather, and the more light it can gather the better the image quality tends to be. There is a lot more to top notch image quality than this, of course, but this is one of the main ideas in a nutshell. It is because of these imaging realities that I am continually impressed by the Lumix GX9 and the sort of outstanding image quality I can get from it.
Another aspect that deserves mentioning is the fact that good image quality can also be directly tied to having quality glass mounted to the camera in question. As it happens, the M4/3 system tends to have very affordable options for some really good glass. For example I recently picked up a rather fast 20 mm f/1.7 prime lens for less than 300 dollars. Many full frame equivalent lenses could be somewhere between $900 - $1,200.
In short I'm just really impressed by the kind of quality I can get in a system that tends to be very affordable (as cameras go).

2. Tire Care: Optimising Performance and Longevity
Proper tire care is essential for optimising performance and ensuring safety on the road. Regularly check the tire pressure using a tire gauge and inflate them to the recommended PSI listed in your BMW M4/M3's owner's manual or on the tire placard. Inspect the tire tread depth using a tread depth gauge or the penny test, and replace tires when they reach the minimum tread depth to maintain traction and handling. Rotate your tires regularly to promote even wear and extend tire life. Choose high-quality tires suitable for your driving conditions and replace them when necessary to ensure optimal performance and safety. By following these tire care tips, you'll maximise the performance and longevity of your BMW M4/M3's tires.
3. Coolant System Checks: Preventing Overheating

Inspect the radiator hoses and connections for signs of leaks, cracks, or wear, and replace them as needed to prevent coolant loss. Flushing and replacing the coolant according to your vehicle's maintenance schedule removes contaminants and prevents corrosion, ensuring optimal cooling system function. Keep your BMW's grille and radiator clean and free of debris to ensure proper airflow and cooling efficiency. By performing regular coolant system checks, you'll prevent engine overheating and costly repairs, keeping your BMW M4/M3 running smoothly for years to come.
4. Battery Health: Ensuring Reliable Starts
A healthy battery is essential for starting your BMW M4/M3 and powering its electrical systems. Regularly test the battery voltage and inspect the connections for signs of corrosion or damage. Clean the battery terminals with a wire brush and a mixture of baking soda and water to remove corrosion and ensure a strong connection. Replace the battery if it's old, weak, or failing to hold a charge. Additionally, ensure your BMW's battery is securely mounted and insulated to prevent damage from vibration and extreme temperatures. By following these battery health tips, you'll ensure reliable starts and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
5. Transmission Maintenance: Preserving Smooth Shifting
Maintaining your BMW M4/M3's transmission is essential for preserving smooth shifting and optimal performance. Regularly check the transmission fluid level and condition using the dipstick or through the fill plug if your vehicle has a sealed transmission. Your BMW M4/M3's suspension system plays a crucial role in providing a smooth and comfortable ride. Regularly inspect the shocks, struts, and bushings for signs of wear or damage, and replace them as needed to maintain ride comfort and stability. Address any signs of suspension issues, such as bouncing, swaying, or uneven tire wear, promptly to prevent further damage and ensure safe handling. Additionally, have your BMW's wheel alignment checked regularly to prevent premature tire wear and ensure proper vehicle handling. By staying on top of suspension system care, you'll enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride from your BMW M4/M3.
7. Exterior Maintenance: Protecting the Paint Finish
Regularly washing and detailing your BMW M4/M3's exterior is essential for preserving its appearance and protecting its paint finish. Use a pH-balanced car wash soap and a soft microfiber wash mitt to gently remove dirt and grime without scratching the paint. Rinse your BMW thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residue and prevent water spots. Dry the exterior with a soft microfiber towel or a drying aid to prevent water spots and streaks. Apply a high-quality car wax or paint sealant every three to six months to protect your BMW's paint finish from UV rays, oxidation, and environmental contaminants. Additionally, consider using a ceramic coating for long-lasting paint protection and enhanced shine. By regularly washing and protecting your BMW's exterior, you'll maintain its showroom shine and protect its resale value.
8. Interior Care: Preserving Comfort and Functionality
Keeping your BMW M4/M3's interior clean and well-maintained enhances its appearance and ensures a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. Vacuum the interior regularly to remove dirt, dust, and debris from carpets, upholstery, and floor mats. Use a mild cleaner and a soft brush or microfiber cloth to clean the dashboard, door panels, and other interior surfaces. Condition leather upholstery regularly to prevent drying and cracking, and protect the dashboard and trim from sun damage with a UV protectant. By keeping your BMW's interior clean and well-maintained, you'll preserve its comfort and functionality for years to come.
9. Electrical System Checks: Ensuring Proper Functionality
Inspecting your BMW M4/M3's electrical system regularly is essential for ensuring proper functionality and preventing issues. Check the lights, switches, and electrical components regularly to ensure they are working correctly. Test and replace fuses as needed to address any electrical issues. Address any electrical problems promptly to prevent further damage and ensure reliable operation of your BMW's electrical systems. By staying vigilant about electrical system checks, you'll enjoy a trouble-free driving experience from your BMW M4/M3.
10. Regular Oil Changes: Maintaining Engine Health
Regular oil changes are essential for keeping your BMW M4/M3's engine running smoothly and efficiently. Engine oil lubricates vital components, reduces friction, and helps dissipate heat, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. It's recommended to change the oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or according to your vehicle's maintenance schedule. Use high-quality synthetic oil with the correct viscosity grade for your BMW model to ensure proper lubrication and protection. Additionally, check the oil level regularly and top it up as needed to prevent engine damage due to low oil levels. By staying vigilant about oil changes, you'll maintain your BMW's engine health and enjoy a smooth driving experience.

The ad showcases a hydraulic press crushing items like musical instruments and books, transforming them into the new iPad. Interestingly, it seems Apple may have drawn inspiration from a 2008 LG ad for the KC910 Renoir smartphone. The LG ad also featured a hydraulic press destroying objects to reveal the new phone, a concept that Apple seemingly replicated in its iPad Pro ad. Criticism towards Apple's ad mounted, with many pointing out the striking resemblance to LG's older commercial. Some even expressed disbelief that Apple, with its resources, would mimic a concept from over a decade ago. Notable figures in Hollywood, including Hugh Grant and Asif Kapadia, spoke out against the ad, decrying its portrayal of the “destruction of the human experience.” Critics questioned the creative direction and accused Apple of undermining the efforts of content creators. In response to the backlash, Apple issued an apology for the ad, acknowledging that it missed the mark and emphasizing its commitment to fostering creativity. Despite the apology, the ad continues to circulate online, though Apple confirmed it would not be broadcasted on TV. The controversy surrounding the ad has sparked discussions about originality in advertising and the impact of Marketing on artistic expression. The "FDE A2" Project taught me a lot about what I wanted to get out of a "General Purpose" AR, so in my usual fashion, I've once again started another upper build -
Everything so far:
BCM M4 Flat Top 'DEMO' Upper
JSE Surplus Teardrop FA
Magpul Enhanced Ejection Port Cover
Badger Creek Ordnance Gen.3 Ambi Charging Handle, Tan
Centurion Midlength 14.5" CHF/CL Lightweight Profile Barrel w/ Tabbed/Pinned Gas Block

Geissele Mk8 Super Modular Rail, 13.5", DDC
SIG Romeo5 w/ Scalarworks 1.93" LEAP/01 Mount (belongs to @bureau-of-mines, borrowing it for a quick pic cause I think it looks better on this build than my EOTech)
EvolutionGear IS-EG NGAL
Surefire M640DF Scout Pro w/ Z-Bolt Dual Function Tailcap, Tan (will likely change this to an M640V later)
Somogear Knock-off Modbutton Lite Switches
Magpul Wire Control Kit, FDE
Edgar Sherman Designs Sling (AOR-1) w/ BCM 1" QD Swivel
The philosophy is that this build won't be as optimized for night vision/suppressor use as the 11.5", but it's set up to readily accommodate it. I want a rifle that pushes out a little further day or night but remains light and maneuverable.
Basically a walmart great value URG-I.
Since I now have the rail estate for it, I moved my light to the inboard side of the gun - this allows more of the beam to shine straight ahead of me and plus I can now access the clicky button on the tailcap with my thumb without having to rotate the entire gun out of aim.
Why have the modbutton if I can reach the tailcap now? Redundancies, my child; should the somo modbutton ever go bad, I have a backup solution. Same reason the laser has a fire button on top, but I'm using a modbutton with that as well.
On top of all this, having the modbutton cables protruding in towards me helps further shield them from potential wear and abrasion.
Things to be added later:
BCM Gunfighter Vertical Foregrip, Mod.3 (MLOK), FDE (should hopefully get it later this week)
Aimpoint T2 Micro (or another SIG Romeo 5. I'm not made of money lol)
KAK K-Spec Enhanced BCG, Downward Venting, NP3 Finish (if they ever restock...)
Surefire M640 Body w/ KM2-C Head (to let me transplant the M640DF body/head to the FDE A2 build and have a positive shutoff for this build)
Suppressor of some form or another (goal is a YHM T3 Turbo, but we'll see what I get)

Boo's charm.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 + Lensbaby Composer, Single Glass Optic
Around mid-2010. The folks at Lensbaby had yet to release a Composer for m4/3, but I had one of their K-mount versions. I was able to find a Fotodiox PK-m4/3 adapter.
I also attached a 42x super-wide lens for this particular image, a picture of our little Bonnie Blue's heart-shaped charm, after she passed.
