Problems with RWBY Volume 4
I have been playing defense for RWBy for a while now and I don’t regret it as since my standards of writing is based more on how emotionally invested and enthralled I am makes RWBy a pretty ideal show that sacrifices pot hole fixes for more emotional stuff, I feel as though I need to point out the flaws of the show itself because A.) there’s apparently a rumor going around that I am a blind fanboy and B.) The cons of Volume 4 are either under played or more exaggerated than TTGL’s fight scenes so I feel an obligation to say it as straight as possible:
1. Salem needed more of a presence
Yeah yeah, I get that since Jen Talyor is an expensive voice actress and all but Salem is the Big Bad so she needs to have a constant presence throughout the story. Salem is in the first two epsiodes then fucks off for next eight. It got so bad I was just about to use this milk cartoon label:
“MISSING: Salem...??? Appearence: Deathly pale skin, wears a shit ton of black, long black nails, black veins...Might be emo. Last seen: I dunno...in Hell? Seattle? Fuck if I know. Age: I’ll get back to you on that. Missing for: Eight god damn episodes.”
2. Yang needed more screen time
Okay, this for different reasons than the usual AKA “Jaune stole her screentime.” Yang was the least developed person in RWBY up until Volume 2, where she got some negative development and got some more in Volume 3 which was a good setup for some real deep development. And while she did get so really good development like addressing her predictability in battle, It would have been better if more time was used address her PTSD. I mean for Brothers’ sake, Blake had a whole episode to herself, just cut part of that and give it to Yang. Speaking of time...
3. RWBY needs to acknowledge it’s shorter runtime RWBY is trying to be a full fledged show which is very admirable and everything but this causes problems down the road with pacing as this was suppose to a calmer volume but the show had to set up so much that it dropped a few thinsg and couldn’t fit it in. Either the job of the volume like the multiple plot lines need to be broken up between two volumes or there needs to be like four extra episodes. I know it costs a lot to mnake RWBY but try to extend the season a little.
4. The fight scenes needed some work
I know that with the combination of the switch to Maya and the work without Monty was going to drop down the quality of the fights but I feel like RT could have delayed it by a month or so and we could have gotten better fight scenes. The Tyrian fights and the Nucklevee were great but the others could have been better.
5. Penny needed more attention
I get Pyrrha is easier because she was more involved with the story but come on: Give the andorid a little love.
And that’s it. That’s all I can think of. There’s probably more but I’m confident on what’s here.
