Ever watched a movie and liked it SO MUCH up until literally the last two minutes? Happened to me tonight. Not even the last two minutes, the last one minute really. The last three lines of dialogue. Fucked it up. I thought, and maybe I’m in the wrong for this, that the whole movie had such a natural line towards a certain message, and yet, the movie tells us at the end that the message is something else which kind of makes sense but is nowhere nearly as impactful or obvious. UGH

Anyways, I still liked Mahaan a lot and I’m so glad I started watching non-Hindi Indian movies as well cuz Bollywood sucks now

So final thoughts on double x? Karthik Subbaraj like a lot of his peers in the industry love callbacks and parallels and while the obvious one is there, with its original Jigarthanda, the real parallel for me was Shyam Singha Roy.

Mediocre first half with the story picking up in emotional weight and performance in the second with a liberal political narrative masquerading desperately as revolution. SaNa's soundtrack was good and the film's meta commentary on politics and cinema was interesting and alot to dissect from the history of the state and the intimate relationship of cinema and government.
