the way that both washington and maine lost control of themselves due to their AIs and both were severely different after the removal of these implants. and the way they were both broken men when they were working together in the desert just trying to survive any way they could, trying not to care about each other because it is counterintuitive to surviving but brought closer over it anyway. the way they were both scraps left over of project freelancer that needed to be removed so they were sent together to pick up pieces and maybe kill each other on the way. the way they were both betrayed by everyone and each other. the way they both were shot in the throat helping other people.
