What’s in Artstor? Images of architecture in Japan and Chicago from Columbia University
ARTstor Digital Library and Columbia University have released more than 2,000 photographs of traditional and contemporary architecture in Japan from an ARTstor-sponsored photographic campaign and nearly 600 photographs of architecture in Chicago from the collection of the Visual Media Center, Department of Art History and Archaeology.
The images from Japan document 20th– and 21st-century architecture in Tokyo, including buildings and projects designed by architects such as: Tadao Ando, Le Corbusier, Maki Fumihiko, Chûta Itô, Tôyô Itô, Kengo Kuma, Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates (SANAA), Seiichi Shirai, Kenzô Tange, and Tetsurô Yoshida. Highlights from Chicago include projects by Frank Lloyd Wright, such as the architect’s home and studio, and Unity Church; Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan’s Auditorium Building; Sullivan and Wright’s James Charnley House; and the Mies van der Rohe buildings at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
