Fruit of Turk's cap (Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii). The ripe fruit as well as the flowers and young leaves of this plant are edible. The fruit is high in vitamin C and tastes like a mildly sweet apple, though the flavor isn't strong. The plant itself is an excellent drought-tolerant choice for light shade, very popular with pollinators and hummingbirds, and blooms from late spring well into fall.
