Women’s Soccer Leagues
Posted on January 28, 2017 by womensathletics
https://womensathletics.wordpress.com/2017/01/28/womens-soccer-leagues/
I woke up this morning whining over the fact that the NWSL season was soooooo far away, and how terrible it was that my beloved Portland Thorns lost to…let me cool down for a second…The Western NY Flash. While I continued my internal rant on how Portland should have beat the Flash, and crunched on my avocado toast, it suddenly hit me.
I first realized that in order to have good avocado toast, my piece of bread required further toasting to give it the perfect crunchiness to softness ratio that my breakfast was clearly lacking at the moment. Additionally, it occurred to me that footy fans all over the world don’t spend precious Sunday morning grumbling about their least favorite NWSL team (by the way the Western NY Flash ceases to exist anymore, it was relocated to North Carolina to form the NC Courage). Instead, these fans have their own leagues (pro or semi-pro) and favorite players to discuss.
As a blog that promotes discussion of all aspects of women’s sports, it only makes sense to introduce the several different leagues of soccer across the world.
“FOOTBALL IS A UNIVERSAL SPORT, A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE”
Each league has their own distinct styles of play and level of global recognition. All of them help their respective athletes bring their skills to the next level and entrance football fans all over the globe. Check them out!

Fun Cities for Bleisure Travelers
New Post has been published on https://www.montanastravelagency.com/fun-cities-for-bleisure-travelers/
Fun Cities for Bleisure Travelers
Denver, Colorado
While the actual label “bleisure travel” might not be top of mind for business travelers, the concept of combining business and leisure time in one trip is becoming an increasingly popular idea. In fact, in its 2018 Bleisure Trends Report, the travel management company Egencia noted that 68 percent of travelers mix business with pleasure between one and three times a year. That study also reports that a whopping 74 percent of North American business travelers are either planning or considering a bleisure trip in the next six months.
To that end, here are some of the best cities to enjoy a bleisure trip:
Chicago, Illinois:
Chicago-style: The adjective seems to attach itself to everything in Chicago—from the vibrant downtown, stunning architecture and political machines to deep-dish pizza, hot dogs, the arts and blues music. Chicago residents do things with their own distinctive flair, creating innovations that resound far beyond the city’s borders.
The result is a world-class city with an internationally acclaimed symphony, champion sports teams such as the Bears and Cubs, a host of renowned museums such as the Field Museum, great hotels and miles/kilometers of gorgeous beaches and lakefront paths that many use for bicycling, rollerblading and jogging. Most first-time visitors are surprised by the city’s cleanliness and the profusion of plants and flowers.
Dallas, Texas
With Dallas’ concentration of technology companies, corporate headquarters, and wholesale trade markets, the nation’s ninth-largest city is a Texas metropolis devoted to business. Residents of Dallas, Texas, seem to enjoy spending money with the same passion with which they earn it. The result is a mercantile mecca that appeals to visitors: The metropolitan area of Dallas affords shopping opportunities that rival those in New York City.
Dallas is also known for the arts; spanning 19 city blocks in the heart of downtown, the Dallas Arts District is the largest urban cultural district in the country. The AT&T Performing Arts Center, a multi-venue center for music, opera, theater, and dance, is the most significant performing arts complex built since the Lincoln Center in New York.
Denver, Colorado
Denver, Colorado, is often associated with the Old West, but the New West has left a more visible mark. Modern Denver is the financial, business, administrative and transportation center of the Rocky Mountain region. The Denver area is a major livestock market and headquarters to mining companies. Denver’s leading manufacturers produce aeronautic, telecommunication, electronic and other high-technology products.
Thanks to its wealth of nearby ski and mountain resorts, national parks and frontier historical sites, Denver is also an important tourist center. Denver attractions draw numerous visitors every year. Sports fans also flock to Denver to watch its many professional teams.
A skyline of gleaming glass graces downtown, and even the historic areas shine with fresh varnish. Nowhere is this clearer than in LoDo—Denver’s Lower Downtown District—where run-down warehouses have been renovated into classy Denver attractions such as jazz clubs, bookstores, restaurants and art galleries. High-rises offer chic downtown living alongside historic buildings that have been transformed into lofts. It all takes place against the glorious backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.
Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia, is a bustling, world-class city, with a skyline full of impressive architectural designs that complement rolling hills and abundant foliage. Atlanta is consistently ranked as one of the best places to do business in the U.S., and more than 750 of Fortune’s Top 1,000 businesses have offices there. The Atlanta airport (Hartsfield-Jackson) is usually ranked as the world’s busiest, and its airport code, ATL, has become the city’s nickname among locals.
Atlanta’s fast-paced, ready-for-the-future attitude is evident in its booming convention business. Other Atlanta attractions include pulsing nightlife, showplace museums, sophisticated fine-arts facilities, and painstakingly restored historical landmarks.
Miami, Florida
Miami, Florida, has always billed itself as a travel destination. Warm weather, sandy beaches and bright sunshine were selling points more than 100 years ago, just as they are today. But Miami’s allure extends beyond its shores. People from all over the Caribbean and Latin America have settled in Miami, giving the city its distinctive, lively international character.
The warm-weather fun is still a big attraction, but the biggest draw is the cosmopolitan flavor coupled with all the great restaurants, sports teams (Dolphins, Heat, Hurricanes and Marlins) and upscale sheen—plus a long list of TV shows that have “Miami” in their titles.
South Beach, with its cheerful, sherbet-colored art-deco buildings and palm-tree-lined avenues, is the center of Miami’s trendy dining and nightlife scene. Other corners of Miami, including Coconut Grove and Coral Gables, offer their own versions of fine living and colorful happenings.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Old City, a hip neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is today much as it was when Benjamin Franklin walked its streets. One of the most progressive citizens of his time, city-father Franklin would surely approve of the many art galleries, trendy shops and vibrant restaurants that dot the downtown Philadelphia landscape.
Philadelphia’s rich history is still visible today in the superb Historic District: That is where you’ll find Independence Hall, where the nation’s Constitution was hotly debated, and the Liberty Bell, which became a symbol of the new government. The city’s museums—more than a dozen, including the excellent Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art—are world-class institutions that mix old and new in surprising ways.
Phoenix, Arizona
Phoenix, Arizona, is a truly modern city—it didn’t really boom until after World War II. Nonetheless, mixed among Phoenix’s office towers and the abundance of resorts, spas and restaurants are museums dedicated to pre-Columbian, Native American and pioneer history. Though Phoenix proper is just one of several cities in the Valley of the Sun, it’s the largest by far and serves as the center of the metropolitan area. The explosive, sprawling growth of the Phoenix metropolitan area—which includes Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Peoria and Tempe—is due in part to its attractive desert location (cacti and mountains are never far from view) and in part to the city’s refusal to respect the limitations a desert imposes.
San Diego, California
San Diego, California, is sunny and mild—not just in weather, but in personality, as well. This is a place where the people are friendly and the sun shines more than 300 days a year. To top it off, San Diego is blessed with considerable natural beauty: broad, gorgeous beaches on its west side, creviced canyons in the east, and sweet-smelling tropical flowers everywhere.
A quintessential U.S. Navy town, San Diego has also boomed in recent years. The trendy downtown and Gaslamp Quarter, plus such nearby attractions as Balboa Park, continue to pull in locals and tourists alike.
Boston, Massachusetts
Boston, Massachusetts, is inundated with visitors every year and for good reason: It’s partly a walkable historic park (especially the Freedom Trail) and partly a modern waterfront metropolis (the “Hub of New England”) with no lack of things to do once darkness descends. Fenway Park—one of the nation’s most hallowed baseball stadiums—is a destination in itself.
Although the city has never stopped reaching for the future and now welcomes leading-edge financial services and high-tech companies, it has lovingly preserved the treasures of its past. Boston cherishes its patriotic connections with the Boston Tea Party and Bunker Hill. It is a living symbol of the melting pot early residents fought to create, including lively ethnic neighborhoods, sophisticated centers of academia and sedate sanctuaries of old wealth. Each seems a world unto itself, yet each is an integral part of Boston’s urban identity.
Seattle, Washington
The combination of water, hills and lush greenery in a mountain setting on the shores of Puget Sound make Seattle, Washington, one of the most beautiful urban areas in the U.S. With its efficient bus system and compact downtown district, Seattle is also user-friendly.
Seattleites have plenty to brag about: There’s the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, plus the Mariners, Seahawks and Sounders FC sports teams. There are fine restaurants, good museums and a vigorous arts scene.
Even Seattle’s infamous rainy winter weather has a good side. All that rain helps make Seattle the evergreen “Emerald City” and produces wonderful flowers. And Seattle is where Starbucks got its start, in 1971, at Pike Place Market
New York, New York
New York City has always been a city of superlatives: largest, tallest, trendiest, best. It’s also one of the world’s most dynamic places. The skyline seems to be ever-changing, and exciting new restaurants and shops continue to pop up in unexpected neighborhoods. First-time visitors and natives alike will experience variety at every turn.
New York offers more to see and do than you can manage in one visit. You’ll find the finest selection of entertainment, museums and restaurants in the world. Some stunning new attractions have opened, and some old favorites have been rebuilt and refurbished like an old Broadway musical. But the New York City skyline is still the awe-inspiring star. Two amazing icons are still mourned, but the new Freedom Tower has already taken its place among the city’s other world-famous landmarks: the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Lincoln Center, the Flatiron Building and the bridges—Brooklyn, Queensboro, Verrazano—to name just a few. Most reassuring of all: The Statue of Liberty is still there, waiting to say hello.
While these are some the most popular bleisure destinations, most cities offer attractions that business travelers can enjoy. On your next business trip, why not take a little extra time to take advantage of your time there for some R&R too?
Check out our travel guides for the 25 most popular US destinations to learn all of the activities you can tack onto your next business trip.

Dynamic duos, bruised Crew SC, where's Wondo: What you missed in MLS Week 7
div.video-js { width: 100% !important; height: 0 !important; overflow: hidden; position: relative; padding-top: 56.2%; }
April 16, 201811:56AM EDT
Miss any of MLS Week 7’s 1,080-plus minutes of action? Here’s a few talking points to catch you up.
Superstars, Five Stripes and slick City
In purely aesthetic terms, the last game of the weekend was probably the best, as New York City FC took a hard-earned point – their fourth of a two-game week – from their visit to Atlanta United and their daunting Mercedes-Benz Stadium home on Sunday. These two East powers swapped blows at high speed like championship heavyweights on an espresso bender, with the big winners being us viewers. Highlights are below, but you should really make sure to watch the condensed match on the MLS app…
LAFC’s brothers from another mother
Hollywood power player Peter Guber has produced a long list of hit movies over the decades, among them “buddy pics” and romances like “Tango & Cash,” “Rain Man” and “Flashdance.” So LAFC’s executive chairman may appreciate the fact that his team are showcasing LaLa Land’s newest dynamic duo.
The expansion side needed to respond to back-to-back painful losses and did just that in Friday’s impressive 2-0 win at Vancouver, Designated Players Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi doing the scoring as usual. Each has netted four goals over five games as well as two and four assists, respectively, and together they’re orchestrating some enjoyable attacking play for a team in fourth place in the Western Conference despite not playing a home game yet.
Zlatan takes the Windy City
Another highly-anticipated affair took place at sold-out Toyota Park as the LA Galaxy hit the road for the first time in their Zlatan Ibrahimovic era. Unfortunately, brutally cold and wet conditions put a damper on things, but Ibra still produced a memorable moment to win it for the visitors, rising above his old teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger to head home the winner. It was a harsh reminder that the Chicago Fire can only afford to keep their star German at sweeper for so long. Defensive reinforcements ahoy?
Ranks of the winless
Congratulations and relief are flowing, perhaps in equal measure, in the nation’s capitaland the Rose City after D.C. United and the Portland Timbers notched their first wins of the season. Both started the year with five-game winless skids and while some weren’t ready to christen Saturday’s action a “must-win” situation, it’s hard to overstate the psychological value of their narrow victories over Columbus and Minnesota, respectively.
For D.C. in particular, winning the second of their temporary-site “home” games was crucial, as they now face a three-month span of away games before christening their new home, Audi Field, in July. So the Seattle Sounders are MLS’ sole winless side (more on them in a bit), while NYCFC and FC Dallas are the last two unbeatens.
Crew SC need a Plan B?
One of the league’s fastest starters (3-0-1) this spring, Columbus Crew SC are suddenly mired in a three-game losing streak after another unlucky loss, this time 1-0 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, D.C.’s temporary home in Annapolis, Maryland. Like previous losses to Vancouverand Chicago, Crew SC outpossessed, outpassed, outshot and generally outplayed their opponents, only to be undone against the run of play.
Philosophically speaking, “The Yellow Football Team” are one of the most enjoyable to watch in MLS, but their possession style involves walking tightropes, with even small mistakes liable to be punished by reactive adversaries. We’ll watch with interest to see how Gregg Berhalter approaches New England’s visit on Saturday (7:30 pm ET; TV & streaming info).
Wondo takes a seat
For the first time in three years, Chris Wondolowski did not start a San Jose Earthquakes match he was available for, instead playing a substitute role in the Quakes’ 2-2 home draw with the Houston Dynamo. His spot in the 11 was sacrificed for coach Mikael Stahre’s tactical shift to a 4-1-4-1, and it could signal an intriguing situation for the 35-year-old as he tries to chase down Landon Donovan’s all-time MLS scoring record this season.
Seattle show some fight
They let a second-half lead slip and are still seeking their first league win. But at least the struggling, injury-ravaged Sounders took a road draw away from Sunday’s visit to Children’s Mercy Park, a house of horrors for them in the past. Cristian Roldan and Will Bruin rallied the Rave Green when it looked like Sporting KC might rout them, though Nouhou Tolo’s woeful outing at left back underlined the existence of deeper issues, too.

15 to watch + tech week of aug 21 2017
There's no doubt that Saturday's fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is going to be huge. And if you ask UFC president Dana White, it's also going to be record-setting. During a media call last week, White predicted that the fight will generate well over the Las Vegas over-under line of 4.9 million Showtime pay-per-view buys. "This is the biggest fight ever. It's tracking right now to be the largest commercial pay-per-view ever done," White said. His expected total would shatter the previous non-heavyweight PPV record of 4.6 million buys ($437 million in revenue) set by the 2015 fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather estimates he'll earn $350 million from the fight, and while McGregor hasn't provided specifics about his cut, White says it will be "a lot of life-changing money." White has been synonymous with hype before, but this time around indications are strong that the bout will KO revenue records.
Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim tournament officials have announced they will reroute the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course for the inaugural LPGA event in Indianapolis. The reroute of the early September event, which will feature 144 of the world’s best female golfers, will see traditional holes 7-10 inside the track become tournament holes 15-18; the remaining hole order will also change. Organizers rerouted the course to create a more impactful experience for players, spectators, and TV viewers. “We can’t wait to see one of the world’s best female golfers holing a putt on the new tournament hole 18 to win $300,000," said Harry Hardy, Tournament Director. Eleven out of the 12 U.S. Solheim Cup players have confirmed, including World No. 2 Lexi Thompson and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Winner Danielle Kang. "We are delighted with the strength of the field and the support from top players for the inaugural Indy Women in Tech Championship," said Dan Towriss, President and CEO, Guggenheim Life and Annuity. Innovation is key for a tournament week highlighting women and technology, and Guggenheim is proving to be a worthy steward.
In the Charlottesville aftermath, figures such as LeBron James are using their platforms as professional athletes to speak out against President Donald Trump. According to ESPN.com, James, who has emerged as one of sports’ most high-profile voices on social issues, “called for a hearing in wake of last weekend’s violent protests.” James spoke at his annual charity event, the LeBron James Family Foundation celebration at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio, saying that we have to love each other if we ever want to improve as a society. “It's not about the guy that's the so-called president of the United States,” said James. “It's about all of us looking in the mirror and saying, ‘What can we do better to help change?’” This is not the first time that James has spoken out against hatred and discrimination – ever since the Trayvon Martin shooting in 2012 he has used his stardom to create positive change. While some fans wish that athletes would stick to sports talk, leaders like LeBron clearly have the ability to positively influence the greater dialogue, and should continue to do so.
The concussion problem is sports is starting to expand beyond the NFL and the United States.According to The Age, the Australian Football League is ramping up its efforts to fight concussions by designing new, custom-built helmets for all players. These helmets, described as “revolutionary,” are being designed and funded by the AFL. AFL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Peter Harcourt recently declared that the league has “barely scratched the surface in understanding concussion.” To really put the AFL’s progress on concussion research and protocol in perspective, Dr. Harcourt noted, “If you were thinking in terms of our understanding of concussion, if it's a 100-kilometer journey, we're probably 15 kilometers down the road. So, we've got a long way to go.” Two different helmet designs are in the process of being developed, with one of them already having been presented to league representatives. It doesn't matter from which continent concussion research springs - cumulatively, the studies have the ability to keep tens of thousands of athletes safer.
Mario Sharapova is set to compete in her first major since 2016 after receiving an invite to compete in the U.S. Open.According to the Washington Post, the USTA granted Sharapova a wild-card entry into the tournament. Following her year-long drug suspension, the tennis star did not play in either the French Open or Wimbledon; her presence in New York is expected to boost the ratings of tournament broadcaster ESPN. Adding Sharapova to the field should provide some more excitement for fans, since Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, and Stan Wawrinka will all be missing from action. Sharapova reportedly “volunteered to speak to young players at the USTA national campus about the importance of the tennis anti-doping program and the responsibility each player has to comply with it,” thus exemplifying her commitment to a clean return to tennis.
Get ready for “The Meet.”According to the London Daily Mail, an innovative new track meet between the U.S. and Great Britain is in the works for next summer. The two track powerhouses will square off at London Stadium on July 21, 2018, competing in a series of events that include running, jumping, hurdles, and relays. Specifics as to every event and competition that will be included have yet to be finalized. The event is expected to be “fast-paced” and will last only two hours, keeping fans engaged instead of dragging out events across a whole day. “The Meet will provide audiences with a fantastic head-to-head match between British Athletics and USA Track & Field, and promises to be one of the biggest events in athletics in 2018,” commented UK Athletics CEO Niels de Vos. While it's hard to imagine a "speed sport" would need hurrying up, virtually every sport is examining pace of play issues in light of our ever-shortening attention spans. Track is no exception.
After multiple delays, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is almost ready for action.According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Falcons’ new home remains on track to open August 26 for a preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The sunflower-shaped retractable roof has caused multiple delays due to the complexity of the shape; the roof will remain closed from now until August 26, with the plan being to “slowly open and re-close the roof in the days after that to continue testing.” AMB Group Senior Vice President and General Counsel Mike Egan said that engineers are “still working out some bugs to ensure the roof can be opened or closed in 11 minutes.” Despite opening for action in a matter of weeks, stadium officials confirmed that it will take until at least October “before the roof is sufficiently automated to be opened for events.” Upon opening, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will house both the Atlanta Falcons and MLS expansion club Atlanta United FC. A popular "Brady Bunch" episode had a female client of architect Mike Brady wanting a building that could open like her compact – soon, that might be achievable.
Seattle city officials are hoping to finalize a deal to renovate KeyArena before the year’s end.According to the Seattle Times, a draft agreement to renovate the arena for NBA and NHL teams is expected to be completed by September 12. Los Angeles-based Oak View Group is proposing a $564 million renovation of the iconic arena, competing against a bid from entrepreneur Chris Hansen to build a privately-funded arena from the ground up. One knock against Hansen’s bid is that the Mariners, Seahawks, and Sounders have “complained that Hansen’s group has yet to negotiate a binding event scheduling deal with them.” Some city council arena committee members are concerned about being able to meet the quickly-approaching deadlines; the council has “engaged its own consultant to review the city’s draft Memorandum of Understanding with OVG after September 12, but that bumps up against the start of a two-month period typically used by staffers to help finalize the city’s budget.” In order to avoid a "Build It and Nobody Will Come" scenario, both competing groups need to solicit full input from the local teams ASAP. Otherwise it's just idle talk.
The joint World Cup bid between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico is taking a step forward, as potential host sites have been announced by the organizing committee.According to SI.com, 44 cities are contending to host the record 80 matches that will comprise the 2026 World Cup. Of the cities and sites on the list, every NFL stadium was included except the Buffalo Bills’ New Era Field. Even Lambeau Field, which has never hosted a soccer match in its storied history, was added to the list over New Era Field. Los Angeles boasted three different stadiums on the list – the Rose Bowl, City of Champions Stadium, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – while Mexico had only three potential sites noted. Morocco submitted a last-minute bid to vie against the North American joint bid, meaning FIFA will not be able to expedite the voting process as U.S. soccer officials had hoped. The Morocco bid is likely just a speed bump - for both practical and political reasons, the North American bid has strong backing and should prevail.
With the Chargers officially moving to Los Angeles, the City of San Diego is preparing to close Qualcomm Stadium in 2018.According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, city leaders intend to close the facility on December 31, 2018, though there are still 568 events scheduled at the stadium up until that point. The Chargers “reported an operating deficit of about $8.7 million” from the stadium in Fiscal Year 2017; the number is expected to be around $6.6 million in FY 2018. Surprisingly, only two full-time staff members have lost their jobs at the stadium since the Chargers left town, causing stadium expenses to remain higher than preferred.  For FY 2018, the personnel budget is listed as $3.6 million, up $12,716 from last year “due to higher pay and fringe benefits.” Former City Manager Jack McGrory said, “Are you kidding me? It seems like you'd have bigger, deeper cuts in operating expenses.” Left in limbo at present are a long-term home for San Diego State University's football team and the popular Holiday Bowl, which may end up following the Chargers north.
The English Premier League has experienced quite a shift in its sponsor demographic over the past decades.According to the London Independent, shirt sponsors have “changed beyond recognition since the days when Queens Park Rangers promoted Classic FM and Blackburn Rovers McEwan’s Lager.” Instead of bearing the names of alcohol brands, an influx of foreign money has seen bookmakers take over a significant share of kit sponsorship deals with EPL clubs. This season, nine bookmakers are signed on as jersey sponsors, “one down from last season’s record of 10.” When the EPL started in 1992-1993, the “biggest sectors for shirt sponsorship were consumer electronics, with six deals, and beer, with four.” Electronics and beer held a “steady presence” through the 1990s before falling off in the 2000s. Last season, there was “just one beer sponsor,” Chang Beer, on Everton's shirts. Changing times beget changing logos, but while the EPL has embraced bookmakers, it will be many years before American pro sports leagues do so, if ever.
This coming year’s NBA schedule is emphasizing “player rest and health.”According to USA Today, the league’s 2017-2018 slate will start one week earlier than it typically does, while simultaneously eliminating “scenarios in which teams play four games in five nights.” Over the past few years, players have been quick to blame a brutal travel schedule as the primary reason for a lot of unnecessary injuries due to wear and tear. This move is also in the best interest of the league to protect its TV ratings, for there were “multiple nationally televised games on ABC last season” that were marred by All-Stats sitting out to rest. No team will have to travel more than 3,500 miles in the seven days prior to a “marquee” nationally televised game. ABC is really trying to bolster its rating this season; “none of the ABC games for the Golden State Warriors this year are coming in back-to-back….”
Ticket sales for the NHL expansion club Las Vegas Golden Knights have been solid thus far.According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, team Vice President/Ticketing and Suites Todd Pollock called single-game ticket sales “brisk.” The team is set to play its first NHL home game against the Arizona Coyotes on October 10 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena right off of the Strip. At the close of the first day of online single-game ticket sales, seats remained for all 41 home games as well as the preseason matchups, though “some games only had single seats available near the glass and at center ice.” The team employed a dynamic pricing model, with opponents being one of the largest reasons for price fluctuation. Glass and center ice seats remain for most games because of their asking price, which typically starts at around $2,000 per ticket. Premium pricing policy “was instituted because of supply and demand.” So far, enthusiasm for the Golden Knights has exceeded NHL expectations. Of course, the only way to sustain this demand is a winning product on ice.
In a perfect world, sponsors hope to ride on the coattails of their athletes’ success, and that is exactly what is happening for South Korea-based Hanwha.According to the Korea Times, business conglomerate Hanwha is gaining significant exposure from the success of its sponsored female golfers. Hanwha’s name was written on the cap of In-kyung Kim’s hat when she raised the trophy at the Women’s British Open, while also appearing on the hat and orange jacket of Korean-Japanese golfer Haru Nomura when she won the Texas Shootout this past May. But Hanwha, Korea’s eighth-largest conglomerate, has not been the only company to benefit from the success of homegrown female golfers. Korean firms have “already sponsored 10 Korean female golfers who have gained victories this season.” Industry officials said that golf deals “allow companies to make huge profits with relatively low investments,” as exemplified here. Korean women dominate the LPGA, and the men's side of the sport is fast trying to play catch up, as a handful of Korean golfers are beginning to make their mark on the PGA and other tours.
The Nashville MLS bid took a big step forward by releasing initial stadium renderings for a soccer-specific facility.According to the Nashville Tennessean, the group trying to land an expansion bid unveiled the designs for a 30,000-seat stadium that would “transform the aging Metro-owned Fairgrounds Nashville.” A huge gap in the plan at this point is a cost figure and financing plan, but those elements are expected to come in the near future; Nashville Mayor Megan Barry’s COO Rich Riebeling said that the mayor’s office hopes to have these financial negotiations in 45 to 60 days “and file legislation for a stadium deal in October.” The proposed stadium site is on 117 acres south of downtown. Nashville Soccer Club Holdings Chair John Ingram spoke at a special Metro Council committee meeting to present the stadium renderings, “Having a stadium that is approved by MLS is an absolutely essential part of ultimately being successful.” Ingram first made his mark in the book world via publishing's biggest wholesale business. Now, he's trying to balance Nashville's soccer books.
Top Sports Tech
1) The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) will embrace technology and data in the near future as they look for every advantage possible for their athletes. One feature of this advancement, according to the association’s website, will be the use of body cameras to give fans a better feel of what each athlete is experiencing during competition. On top of that, the IAAF is looking into biomechanics research to help their track and field athletes see exactly where their performance changes during competition. Looking forward to the future of what this means for the IAAF, President Sebastian Coe said, “We are grateful to the world class teams and experts who have been working on some interesting projects and exciting tech developments which will help us advance the understanding of athletics. This information will help the IAAF to better protect the health of athletes, advance their coaching, the sport science associated with it and help us to better tell the story of their superhuman achievements to sports fans worldwide.” The IAAF is starting to see that technology and data is the future for their sports, and are doing their best to take advantage.
2) Formula E Cars will have a drastic new look in 2018. Spark, an existing supplier of Formula E cars, is expected to begin private tests this October in racing environments in order to begin distribution in early 2018. The new car style "could feature a radical departure from the classic single-seater shape, especially around the rear, and is also expected to embrace the halo cockpit protection device set to be adopted by F1 in 2018.” Spark is riding a fine line when making these changes to their car. On one end, they do not want to increase the overall size of the car in order to keep it lean and light enough to race well. On the other end, it is important to make sure the car is sturdy enough within its structure during the intense speeds it can reach. “The car will be massively different, it will look very cool. Its structure has to be a little stronger than what we have now so that we touch more, we race more. The design looks good, it does not interfere too much with aero - we don't need much aero, who really cares if it's a second faster or slower if the cars are the same?" Only time will tell if the new design will lead to new and sustainable success for Formula E racing.
  3) The Miami Heat have completely done away with paper tickets. Beginning in the upcoming 2018-19 NBA season, all Miami Heat game attendees will show their tickets on their smartphone through the Heat mobile application. If a ticket-holder does not have access to a smartphone or the device is not working, the ticket-holder may then visit a ticket center at the arena and receive their ticket with a valid ID. Additionally, the Miami Heat app does much more than scan tickets. Through the app, fans can purchase additional tickets, team store merchandise, and food from a nearby concession stand. Fans can also transfer their tickets to another game if they so wish. Overall, this marks a significant change in the overall experience for Miami Heat fans. Matthew Jafarian, vice president of digital strategy and innovation for the Heat, said, "We want to be able to send exclusive messaging based on who you are. If you are a family of four, I want to be able to give you relevant content that only a family of four would care about versus a single young professional. We have personalized experiences around who you are.” Clearly, the Miami Heat are starting to take the next steps in efficient use of technology to enhance the fan experience.
4) Ryan Mundy, former NFL safety with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, has launched his own virtual reality company. While sitting out the 2015 NFL season due to a back injury, Mundy pursued his MBA at the University of Miami in order to better prepare himself for life after football. His educational pursuits paid off after months of painstaking research into the March 2017 launch of his company, Techlete Ventures. On what Mundy looked for when starting his company, a quote from Sporttechie.com: “When you reduce your opportunity set, it magnifies the difficulty to actually achieve a winner,” Mundy said. “There’s a duality to that. Yes, I have domain expertise [in sports]. I could bring value to these sports companies. But then on the flip side, I’m more than just an athlete.” Mundy is continuing to change the perception of athletics only being able to excel in athletics. Having launched a new virtual reality company less than a year after his official retirement, Mundy is beginning to reap the benefits.
  5) HoopMetrics Basketball Lineup Optimizer Analytics and predictive statistics are making their way from the NBA into AAU and youth recreational basketball leagues. The new application will give coaches data they previously have not had access to. By being able to optimize player lineups using data and technology, advanced analytics will make their way from the NBA to places like AAU and high school basketball. Additionally, HoopMetrics offers a variety of features that can help with smaller game decisions as well. From the HoopMetrics website: "Introducing Court Click. You tap the floor where a stat happened, we do the rest. We keep track of everything from the action that was performed, to the players who were also on the floor when the stat happened. We calculate a wide range of analytics for your team from your basic box score analytics, to pro level analytics such as TENDEX, Plus Minus, Offensive & Defensive efficiency, lineup suggestions, and many more.” All of this analysis is now right at the fingertips of everyday players and coaches. Using this new, accessible technology could lead to a whole new form or development for youth players and teams as they look to add a competitive advantage.

Line As far as line is concerned, depending on what type of fish youre after and where youll be fishing for them, Id suggest you use the lightest light possible. Generally, if youre fishing water thats not full of snags a 6 or 8-pound test for walleyes works well. If youre fishing for bass or catfish in or near weeds, brush, submerged timber or areas where there are a lot of rocks and snags its a good idea to go with 12-pound test or heavier The colder the water temperature, the less active the fish are and the more finesse youre going to need to catch the fish, so as water temps drop, so does my line diameter as smaller baits perform better on lighter line. The larger the line diameter, the less action youre going to get out of your bait. This is especially true when using diving bait as heavier line has more resistance and wont allow your bait to go as deep (crankbait) or sink as fast (jigs). One thing that you really need to pay attention to is the knot you use to attach your hook or lure to the line. Avoid the old overhand knot as it wont hold, will slip, come loose or break. Use a good knot such as the Palomar or TRILENE Knot. Before you pull your knot tight, be sure to wet the line, if you dont, the friction created by the line rubbing together will melt the line. Sinkers The amount of weight or sinker that youll attach to the line depends on what type of water youll be fishing. When fishing in a river, dealing with current, it may require a heavier sinker. If youre fishing from a boat, you probably wont need as much weight because youre fishing vertically. I carry an assortment of split shot, a few 1/4 oz.

This vessel features a robust inventory of spare parts, an extra set of sails, two dinghies, and an amazing amount of storage space that makes this Amel the perfect choice for exploring the seas in comfort and safety.  Contact me directly so I can share the full inventory of spares as well as a recent Survey on this vessel.

The Super Maramu, the culmination of a series of six different Amels produced in Henri Amel’s lifetime, was first introduced in 1989 and was discontinued in 2005, the year Amel passed away, after a production run of 497 hulls. It is very much a production boat in that most everything about it is set as firmly in stone as possible at the factory. New Amels are delivered, quite literally, ready to sail anywhere in the world with option lists that are very short. You either buy into the Amel system, or you don’t, and if you don’t you are well advised to buy another boat rather than try to make one of these into something it isn’t.
As on all Amels, the focus aboard the Super Maramu is very much on comfort and convenience. The boat, consequently, is very systems intensive. Standard equipment includes a generator, washer-drier, a fridge and seperate deep freezer, and a microwave oven, not to mention myriad lesser bits of kit, including a vacuum cleaner, hair drier, and a specially designed shopping cart.
The same philosophy pertains on deck and the boat is designed to be operated from the confines of the well-protected center cockpit by a single individual capable of lifting no more than 50 pounds. Both the in-mast mainsail and headsail are controlled with push-button electric furlers; the smaller in-mast mizzen is controlled by a direct-drive furler turned with a winch
handle. All sheet winches are electric. The power windlass, replete with chain counter, can also be operated from the cockpit, as can the integral anchor washdown system installed in the bow roller. There is also a retractable bow thruster to help out when docking, though it is necessary to step out on deck to handle dock lines.

Descriptions
Accommodations
The Amel 53 Super Maramu offers a center cockpit layout that affords a very deep & protected center cockpit for security while on deck while giving you a large aft cabin with a huge double berth.
As you descend the companionway, the well equipped offshore galley is to port with a great nav station to starboard. Moving forward is the U shaped dinette to port with additional refrigeration under the seats. To starboard is a straight settee.
Forward of the main bulkhead is the head to port and an open forward cabin with berths port & starboard.
Aft of the companionway to starboard is the passage way to the aft stateroom. There is a single berth outboard in the passageway that makes for a very comfortable and secure sea berth.
The aft stateroom features a large double berth to port with a dressing area/desk area to starboard. There is a large hanging locker and large head with shower.
The stowage is excellent throughout the boat. Amel certainly had long range cruising in mind and provided a place to put everything.
