Enjoining good and forbidding wrong

امر بالمعروف و نہی عن المنکر

AMR BIL-MA’ROOF WA NAHI ‘AN-IL-MUNKAR, AND DO FULFILL YOUR COMMITMENTS.

The Holy Qur’an has explicitly described one of the most important missions of the Muslim Ummah as amr bil ma’roof wa nahi anil munkar – enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil. 

His nafs (soul) tells him or her to follow the heart’s desires, irrespective of whether they are forbidden by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and Shaytan adds fuel to the fire by tempting one to sin.

In order to prevent a person’s heart from being afflicted with such diseases, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has commanded us in the Holy Qur’an to enjoin that which is good (Al-Ma’roof) and forbid that which is evil (Al-Munkar): “Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining Al-Ma’roof and forbidding Al-Munkar. And it is they who are the successful.” (Aal-e-‘Imran, Surah 3, Ayah 104) 

In a broader aspect, Ma’ruf means monotheism and all the good that Islam has enjoined. In contrast, Munkar means polytheism and all evil that Islam has forbidden. The above-mentioned verse makes it compulsory for Muslim Ummah to promote good, truth, and justice and prevent evil and injustice. In another verse of the Holy Quran, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has commanded the same to the Muslim Ummah: “You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf and forbid Al-Munkar, and you believe in Allah.” (Aal Imran 3:110) 

Consider amr bil ma’roof wa nahi anil munkar to be a built-in correcting mechanism in society – just like Microsoft Word uses a built-in Dictionary feature to auto-correct spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Imagine a society being kind to Allah’s creation, eliminating poverty through Zakat and Sadaqah, being just and fair in their dealings, and forbidding evil such as dishonesty, corruption, and indecency.

3rd Workshop on Differential Equation ended

The 3rd Workshop on Differential Equation 2019 (WDE3) have effectively come to an end yesterday (October 10th, 2019). The duration of workshop spanned for four days, starting from 6th October to 10th October (with a day off on October 8th, 2019 due to Durgapooja), completing the endeavour for the 11th workshop organized by Community of Physics (CP).

According to the new norm of the organization, from now on CP is going to organize at most two workshops a year, one in a small scale and the other is large. This workshop was a stepping stone toward materialising the plan. The focus groups were undergraduate students from the freshman and sophomore levels, but people who wanted to brush-up their floundering skills in the topic also joined. Students from several places such as University of Dhaka (DU), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science & Technology University (BSMRSTU), Khulna University (KU) etc. also joined.

On the last day of the workshop, the final examination took place. Students who aced the examination and who performed most consistently were rewarded. Md Mahabur Rahman secured the 1st position in the workshop and Md Juned Miah secured the 2nd. Both of them are from the University of Dhaka.

CP is grateful to the following two followers: Sadman Sakib and Golam Mortuza Hossain for their immense effort as volunteers, who help us run this workshop smoothly. We look forward to the next workshop, which will be bigger and hopefully better in terms of quality, content and learning experience.

Udvash (academic and admission care) was kind enough to provide us with an amazing venue, completely free of cost, as they do every year. A big shoutout to them.

US Confirms Airstrike Kills Deputy Leader of IS Militants in Somalia

PENTAGON  — The U.S. military confirmed Monday that it carried out an airstrike that killed the deputy leader of Islamic State militants in Somalia.  U.S. Africa Command said Sunday's airstrike near the village of Xiriiro in Somalia's Bari region killed Abdihakim Mohamed Ibrahim. AFRICOM says Ibrahim, also known as Dhoqob, "was responsible for the daily operations of the extremist group, attack planning and resource procurement.  Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan, security minister of Somalia's Puntland region, told VOA's Somali Service that the airstrike hit the vehicle in which Dhoqob and another passenger were traveling. He said both men were killed, but the other person had not yet been identified. "The vehicle was burned," said a witness who did not want to be named. IS Somalia is led by Sheikh Abdulkadir Mumin, a former scholar for militant group al-Shabab. In October 2015, he defected from the group and pledged his allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. Dhoqob was Mumin's right-hand man and had appeared in videos produced by the group. Mumin himself survived another airstrike in his mountainous hideout in Bari region in November 2017. "Killing one of their top leaders will speed up their eradication," Gallan said. The U.S. has carried out scores of military strikes in Somalia in recent years, mostly targeting al-Shabab. This year alone, the U.S. has carried out more than 30 airstrikes in the African country. IS has between 200 and 300 men in Somalia, according to experts. Al-Shabab and IS have recently been fighting in the eastern mountainous areas since December of last year. Al-Shabab has vowed to eliminate its rival IS, accusing it of "dividing the jihadists." ‘Best Actor Award’in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday distributed the National Film Award-2015 among its winners in 25 categories. She handed over the awards at a colourful function of the 40th National Film Award held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). Shakib Khan and Mahfuz Ahmed jointly won the Best Actor award for their performances in 'Aro Bhalobashbo Tomai' and 'Zero Degree' respectively while Joya Ahsan won the Best Actress award for her performance in 'Zero Degree'. Popular Bangladeshi actress Shabana and playback singer Ferdausi Rahman were given the lifetime achievement awards at the function. Reazul Rezu's Bapjaner Bioscope and Morshedul Islam's Anil Bagchir Ekdin were selected in the Best Film category while the Department of Films and Publication (DFP)'s 'Ekattorer Ganohatta O Baddyabhumi' won the best documentary award. The jury selected Riazul Maola Riju and Morshedul Islam as the best directors for their films 'Bapjaner Bioscope' and 'Anil Bagchir Ekdin' respectively while Humayun Ahmed was awarded for the best dialogue category for 'Anil Bagchir Ekdin'.
