"The Demiurge aligned the evolving planet with the Celestial Axis... and then, in a burst of procreation, showered the Earth with sparks of its own life... seeding the primeval mud... vitalizing the inchoate soil... engendering the first forms of ethereal life which sprang full-grown from the ground -- beings who would be called Elder Gods -- beings like Chthon... Gaea... Set... and innumerable others. The Elder Gods proliferated, spreading across the Earth until no corner of the globe was without their kind."

THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH ACCORDING TO THE MARVEL UNIVERSE -- THE MARVEL BOOK OF GENESIS.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the four opening pages from "THOR" Annual Vol. 1 #10. October, 1982. Marvel Comics. Readers get to witness the beginning of everything, including the origins of the first ethereal beings on Earth: the Demiurge, Chthon, Gaea, Set, Atum, the Demogorge, and numerous other succeeding gods.
"As time passed, the Earth was overrun with ethereal life, and the Elder Gods degenerated into life-destroying demons constantly at war with one another in a struggle for supremacy and power. All except Gaea, who cared with motherly tenderness for the new form of life teeming now in Earth's oceans... Gaea feared that her savage brethren would, in their endless warfare, destroy all chance for this new life to grow. She meditated upon how she might bring good to the world she loved... and in her yearning, summoned the Demiurge itself to conceive in her a force for good. Then she withdrew into the cool womb of the Earth, patience and weariness her sole companions... until... Atum was born!"
