#Melon tasted something and his body immediately said 'aight imma head out'

A fellow Melon fan! I wrote a one-shot (post-canon) that centres around Melon, Jack, and Gouhin, that you might enjoy it, called "The Hybrid and the Golden Boy" on AO3. I was pretty happy with how Melon came out, but he's such a tough character to write (and he definitely wants to hog the spotlight!)

I've read it! It was a bit tough to find since it's chapter 3 of a collection and the actual title is something else, but I managed ^^

SPOILERS BELOW, I recommend reading the fic first!

Melon x Jack is not a (friend?)ship I ever considered before, but honestly after reading this I can't say I'm opposed to it at all, the more thought I put in it the more it grows on me! I'm not a big canon shipper (very much a self-indulgent oc x canon person) but this is actually one of the better Melon ships I've seen (even though it ends at the fun part haha)

I love how in detail you described Melon's instincts and fucked up senses, even in this one-shot I think you explained quite a bit deeper than the manga did but without making it sound different from canon. And his recovery is really well-described too, especially with all the very confusing new emotions. Ngl I lowkey love how he tastes something for the first time and immediately just up and dies.

You're also really good at describing places and figuring out how they function, Gouhin's clinic in particular. I always struggle with these things when writing about settings I've never been in, but paying attention to the scents in particular really brought them out to me. Melon's initial prison sounded like some overly clean torture chamber, and I could definitely smell the clinic. Good for him for being moved into a better-suited luxury cell.

Some more notes just because I need to say these things;

• Gouhin describing Melon as a wild child lowkey made me feel things

• As well as "maybe you do want to see me with my shirt off" like no pls stop exposing me ahah

• And him actually thanking Jack gave me emotions too 🥺🥺🥺 now that I think of it, it might very well have been the first time someone bothered to help him, so no wonder it made him develop weird feelings.

• How dare you make him cry though, it very much triggers my "hug him and never let go" instinct.

Anyway, I was actually disappointed when it ended, if you ever get to writing more of this story please do let me know! I was just getting really into it when it stopped,,

To actually reply to your ask, I think you wrote him really well and he deserves to hog all the spotlight so let him! I'm always a bit iffy about charcters like him post-threapy/treatment as obviously his behavior will now be different from canon, but I think it was fairly realistic for him, at least I certainly hope he will get to this point.

I couldn't write Melon right to save my life, but I do have a rp partner who writes him for me to ship with my oc (bless her) and I'm always in awe when people write him with seemingly no effort. Give me your power. Share your secrets. I beg
