Here's her artist statement: "What Are You?” is a deeply personal self-portrait that confronts my experience of #growingupbiracial. The textured black paint forming the question “What are you?” mirrors the inquiry that has shaped much of my identity—one that is as dehumanizing as it is dismissive. In this painting, my hand covers my mouth, symbolizing the silence I felt forced into, unable to claim belonging in any racial group. This work encapsulates the isolation, identity confusion & alienation I experienced as someone who has faced rejection from both Black & White communities. It reflects the unspoken reality of being caught between identities, navigating a world that demands definition yet offers no space for complexity. The muted tones & the physical act of silencing serve as a visual narrative of feeling unheard & unseen."

“What Are You?” is more than a recounting of my personal pain—it is an act of reclamation. By putting my story onto the canvas, I aim to break the silence that has long surrounded my identity & invite dialogue about race, belonging & the spaces in between. My identity isn’t confined to 1 box—it’s a rich tapestry woven from many threads, each offering me a new lens through which to see the world. i've made quite a few posts on #blackfishing and there's always those handful of people who don't think it's a big deal or say i should mind my business when it comes to how people dress, etc. i wish it wasn't a big deal, i wish i could ignore it but a lot of these people make it pretty hard. blackfishing has repercussions that most don't even realize are harmful. this comment is one of them. have you ever felt that you had to overcompensate? have you ever felt that you couldn't wear a hairstyle or clothing because you were afraid of what people would say? #mixedpeople, especially #mixedwomen, are forced to water ourselves down in so many ways. we can't be ourselves, our authentic selves, talk about it or even celebrate it. we're accused of blackfishing AND starting the "trend". @nicoleocran said it best in a article about blackfishing and #mixedfishing in @metro.co.uk: "Blackfishing in particular fuels the stereotype that mixed people are actively trying to deceive people. It perpetuates the “pick me” stereotype – when it is white people who are afforded the opportunity to take on and off this cosplay as they so choose. This is the mixed person’s reality. We just want the opportunity to discuss the fluidity of identity without being mocked, ridiculed or excluded, but music videos like #JesyNelson's or celebrities making billions of dollars in the beauty industry like #KylieJenner, make it easy entertainment fodder." Sussex Past Life

Erik and I were Augusta (Lady Murray) and Augustus. I wrote about uncovering this. This was discovered nearly four years ago. Stumbling a short while upon an article about the new Sussex royals gave me goosebumps.😳 It looks fucking nuts especially because I can relate to the dutchess in this life and shared the same struggles as her in my past life.

I wasn't recognized as royal blood and therefore our marriages didn't count. I had two children by Augustus (Erik) but he was MIA.

We named our children after us; little Augustus and Augusta.

In this life I have a twin brother and we were named similarly (Monique isn't my first name BTW)

Erik (my Twin Flame) and I were also brother and sister in a past life.

Probably not very significant but still interesting. 😳 When I dug around Augusta I found she had kept journals. It was emotional because I wrote the same way. I posted a comparison picture of her journals and mine. I've also had a separate book kept between my friends to write things in. Just as she did.

We both have interest in natural medicine too. So when I read about what's currently happening in Brittain I was reminded of my past life. They must know about the last Duke and dutchess and I wonder what they think. Like we're thier actions inspired by Erik and myself in that past life? 🤦‍♀️ If anything THEY probably think they are a reincarnation of. 🙄 Psshhh...

Erik said we weren't supposed to be together.

Just like in all our others. Kind of like now too with him being dead and all. I always felt awkward when I saw the royals and deep down a part of me was 😱😩 jealous because of my past life. It's actually kind of funny. But seeing them struggle. Especially for Megan. I feel sorry for her. I had similar troubles.

How come standing up for myself is deemed as making excuses and not taking accountability for my mistakes? But then someone white does it right in front of me and they’re thanked for ✨adding perspective✨.

How come I’m never white or black enough for people but I’m hypersexualized by my body, skin color, skin clarity, told that I have the hair they want or that all of my gym progress is not that but instead all to do with my black heritage?

Why do white people always “know the perfect product” for my hair? Bitch I don’t use Cantu that shit is garbage and NO you can not touch my weave.

Rachel Meghan Markle was born on August 4, 1981, in Canoga Park, LA, California. She identifies as #mixedrace; "My dad is #white & my mom is #AfricanAmerican. I'm half #Black & half White." Her parents – the former makeup artist Doria Ragland (born 1956) & Thomas Markle Sr. (born 1944), a television lighting director & director of photography– separated when she was 2 years old & divorced 4 years later.

She has a close relationship with her mother. Until age 9, both parents contributed to raising her; then, her father was left in charge of caring for her (while her mother pursued a career) so Meghan lived with him full-time before attending university at age 18. Markle Sr. worked as a director of photography & lighting for General Hospital & Married... with Children, & Meghan occasionally visited the set as a child.

She attended Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse & at age 11, she & her classmates wrote to Procter & Gamble to gender-neutralize a dishwashing soap commercial on national television & was featured on Nickelodeon. She appeared in small roles in the films Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, The Candidate & Horrible Bosses. She got her big break in July 2011 when she joined the cast of Suits.
