TUA Feedback Fest!

The TUA Feedback Fest is a week-long celebration of The Umbrella Academy fandom, fanworks, and fan creators. It’s a time for making fic recs! For sharing your favorite artists and gifmakers! For thanking all the lovely supportive fans and friends that make it so worthwhile to spend so much time obsessing over the Hargreeves. 

Join in from March 24 - April 1 2020, and make some rec posts of your own, tagged with #tuafeedbackfest. You can also anonymously submit a post to this blog if you’d rather do it that way. Reblogging other fan’s rec posts is also a great way to share the love! This blog will be reblogging the posts everyone makes, and when the week is done, we’ll collect it all together in a master list.

It’s a loosely structured event, welcoming any level of participation or type of positivity. But if you are looking for some more guidance for making posts, you can check out the list of prompts and guidelines. Let’s share some appreciation and some positivity and some really incredible fandom content - we have a lot in this fandom to love!

TUA Feedback Fest

TUA Feedback Fest is a week-long celebration of The Umbrella Academy fandom, fanworks, and fan creators. It’s a time for making fic recs! For sharing your favorite artists and gifmakers! For thanking all the lovely supportive fans and friends that make it so worthwhile to spend so much time obsessing over the Hargreeves.

From March 24 - April 1 2020, fans can make rec posts and tag them with #tuafeedbackfest. This blog - All TUA Feedback Fest - will reblog all content included in that tag, all ships welcome! It will not, however, reblog any posts that include bashing of ships/characters/other fans. TUAFeedbackFest started the event and has different rules for what content it will include, so pick one to follow based on what you’d like to see, and get to making your own rec posts and reblogging the recs of others!

Prompts and Guidelines

The way the TUA Feedback Fest works is by collecting recommendations made by as many fans as possible! We need YOU to make a post about your faves. Here’s some ideas for themes for rec posts:

Artists

Gifmakers

Fanfic writers

Bloggers with great headcanons, tags, metas

Commenters and your favorite comments

Fic rec lists

A fic rec list can just be your personal faves, and it should be! But if you’ve got a lot of faves, maybe make a couple of themed posts. There’s plenty of space for crossover of these categories, but some ideas for specific fic rec themes:

Pre-Series: when they are kids! or when they are miserable in their 20s. they were miserable as kids too probably oops

Fixing the Apocalypse: right after season one ends - what happens?? what do they doooo??

Post not-Apocalypse: after all that apocalypse stuff is done. and now they’ve got new problems. or maybe even some healing?

Vietnam: ten months of character development and falling in love and it’s all offscreen - until now.

AU: fix-it fics, canon divergence, no powers. straight up coffee shops. crossovers.

Angst/Whump: it’s a perfect series for writing Sadness because they are all so sad all the time.

Fluff: it’s a perfect series for writing Fluff because they are all so SAD all the time!!

Short/Oneshot: a good word count for reading on your break

Chaptered/Series: a good word count for reading on your break. and another break. and another break. and anoth

WIP: unfinished, as yet. maybe an influx of readers and comments can help this get closer to finished??

Hidden/Underrated Gem: you can’t BELIEVE no one is talking about this. why does this not have a billion kudos. it is criminal.

About *insert character*: or insert pairing, or insert whatever it is that you cannot get enough fic about.

Self Promote!: fuck yeah, self promote, babey! which are your favorites of the stuff you’ve written?

To Read: you’ve heard good things, the summary sounds amazing, you love this author’s other work. you haven’t gotten there yet, but you are planning to!

This is just ideas, you might not want to do any of this, or do something completely different. Have fun with it; all positivity is good positivity! If you’ve got different theme ideas, reblog and add them on, or send in a submission or ask to the blog so we can share with everyone who might be looking for more ideas for making their posts. 

And of course, don’t forget to tag your posts with #tuafeedbackfest so that this event blog can reblog your recs! 

**IMPORTANT: This blog will not reblog rec posts with incest, or with bashing of any kind. And that includes bashing people who appreciate incest ships (e.g. posts with comments such as “incest is nasty”). We respect everyone's opinion, but this isn ’t the place to talk about it. Those kinds of comments are targeted comments meant to make certain fans feel bad, and we won’t allow that on this blog. We are sorry that you may feel excluded for our choice, but we promise you that we’ll make sure that you won’t be attacked for what you like. What a fun start to the event we had today!! So so thankful to everyone who participated, especially those who made recs - I’ve got a lot more to read, now!!

If you find new fics you love or are reminded of old favorites, it’s a great time to go and leave a comment for the writer. We don’t have to confine the positivity and love to tumblr! I promise you, they will really appreciate it <3

I just want to say I’m very happy y’all decided to include people who ship the academy kids together. I’m honestly so tired of antis ruling the fandom and people being literally scared to say ship something because of bullying and death threats. So thank you.

I always wanted to include everyone! A good amount of my mutuals and friends here ship the kids, and are such talented and wonderful people. I was bummed to exclude that from the event blog, but I understood why it could be an issue for others and didn’t want to cause hurt.

I see now that the choice to do that caused hurt on the other side, and that’s no good either. I’m glad that this blog can help to make the event both more inclusive and safe at the same time. The bad behavior of antis is completely unacceptable and it’s terrible that members of the fandom have had to deal with that kind of harassment. 

There is no place for bullying in this event, here on the all-inclusive blog or on the original event blog. I can’t control what people put on the tags, but the content that is reblogged on both blogs should be safe for all shippers.

Masterlist Coming Soon!

I use ‘coming soon’ the way that netflix does in reference to s2 because it could be tomorrow or months from now. But! I’m working on putting together the fic rec masterlist, and it’s amazing how much was recced!

So far I’ve got 15 posts that includes 68 different authors and 149 different fic or series! That’s not counting multiple recs of the same thing. And we’ve got about 50 posts in total!

I'm really proud of how you guys and @c0ffeebee handled everything! Very well done. This is some good fandom dialogue happening, and no matter how you felt about how it started, it got to a good place and you should be proud of yourselves! Everything was done in good faith and that makes me happy to be a part of this fandom. Thank you!

Thanks for the support! It’s good to be able to have discussions that lead to positive outcomes, instead of being so entrenched in our own viewpoint that we can’t listen to the perspective of someone else.

This blog was created to be a way for Hargreeves shippers to have a place to enjoy the TUA Feedback Fest event. Mods involved in the creation of the original blog were not comfortable with all of the content that is in the fandom, and it’s important that they can have a place to experience this positivity event and stay safe.

However, it’s also important that Hargreeves shippers have a space, too. It was always the intention of the event that everyone could participate in the week, and that a blog like this one could be launched to include the works that the original blog would exclude. So that’s this blog!

I am a mod of the original event as well and am sorry about the stress caused by this discussion. It would have been best if I set this up at the same time and made it clear which space was safe for what. I wasn’t giving the same consideration to Hargreeves shippers as I was to other fans and that’s not fair. I hope that this can be a positive experience now that we’ve had this conversation!

I promised to preserve the conversation here after deleting it from the original blog so that people who still want to add to the discussion can do so without involving the original blog any further. It’s not an easy conversation for Hargreeves shippers either, and some of the language is not what is preferred, so it’s under the cut. 

Speaking of language, I am not active in the Hargreeves shipper corner of fandom. I am trying to do my best to learn, and getting some pointers from c0ffeebee, so that I can make this space is as positive and safe as it can be. Please let me know at this blog or my personal if I am making more missteps so that I can correct them, and if you’d like to help and be a mod for this blog, let me know! 

As I’ve always said, this event is meant to be positive for the entire fandom, and I made choices in setting up the first blog that didn’t fully support the entire fandom. I hope that this will be a good solution so that everyone can have fun appreciating the fans and fanworks that they love!

The TUA Feedback Fest starts tomorrow!!

Biiiig thanks to @c0ffeebee for setting up all the visual appearance and design for this blog, it looks really great! Also she deserves recognition for being a huge factor in why this blog exists in the first place!

I am going to be modding the event, along with ModTaryn. We’ll do our best to keep up - but actually I thinks it’s more fun if we fall behind because there is just so. much. activity. Drown the mods in positivity, folks!! There’s a lot of love to go around.
