The Pearl of the Emirates - Expo Dubai 2020

The concept of the PEARL OF THE EMIRATES refers to these three 2020 Expo themes, also poetically recalling the past when the pearl of the oyster was the major source of wealth in the Emirates long before the discovery of oil and was essential to sustaining the indigenous population.

The Pearl is constructed of seven kinetic individual petals faced with white marble. With the path of the sun the pet­als slowly, yet dramatically, open and close and reveal its precious interior that stands for the future with the seven exhibition spaces of the seven Emirates of the UAE.

Ain Dubai (Dubai Eye)

The Dubai Eye , the tallest ferris wheel in the world . The 210 m (689 ft) Ain Dubai (previously name Dubai Eye or Dubai-I at Bluewaters Island in the United Arab Emirates was announced in February 2013. At that time construction was planned to begin in June 2013 and completion expected sometime during 2015, at an estimated cost of US$1.6 billion, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Starneth Engineering were appointed as the primary design and construction contractors. Construction eventually began almost two years behind schedule in May 2015.

Welcome to Expo 2020 Dubai.

In November 2013, the United Arab Emirates won the right to host the World Expo in Dubai in 2020. This will be the first time that the World Expo is staged in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA). Since the first Great Fair of 1851, World Expos have continued to be one of the largest and most enduring global mega-events. Lasting six months, World Expos attract millions of visitors who explore and discover pavilions, exhibits and cultural events staged by hundreds of participants including nations, multilateral organisations and businesses.
