Monster Hunter Tri Diary, Part 5: Slaying Jaggi(a) & supplies for Kelbi horn medicine

I've only realized now that "Moga Woods" is the proper name used in English instead of "Moga Forest". It's technically not that much of a difference, but I went back and edited it in my other entries to avoid confusion.

Also, I've summarized everything interesting from the villager conversations under "Village Talk".

Disclaimer: Text is paraphrased from my localization and might slightly deviate from the English version.

Quest: Farm Aid

Before starting out with the quest, I cleaned up my inventory a little. I threw out the harpoons and the BBQ spit, so now I only have potions, steaks, bugnets, and pickaxes in my bag. As for the whetstones, I know where to find those on the Deserted Island, so I can gather them myself if I need them.

I could already upgrade my Iron Sword+ into a Buster Sword, but since the second path with the Rugged Great Sword gives more damage and sharpness, I'll wait for now. (For the upgrade to the Rugged Great Sword, you need Great Jaggi Claws, so I'll have to hunt a Great Jaggi first.)

Head Farmer in the quest description: "A stubborn herd of Jaggi has infested my farm!" Hilariously, the actual quest is about hunting Jaggia, not Jaggi (if you don't take the subquest into account). I guess technically, Jaggia are just female Jaggi, but it's still a bit odd since the Head Farmer insisted they're having trouble with Jaggi.

"The vermin eats whatever it can find - roots and stuff like that." Whaaat? Now you're just pulling my leg - why should carnivorous bird wyverns eat roots? All of this seems kinda fishy somehow... (Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Jaggi attacking the farm is just an excuse to get rid of them. Like the villagers were annoyed by the Jaggi, submitted some vaguely plausible reason to the Guild why they want them gone, and the Guild approved of it and made it into a quest.)

Man, these Jaggi got skills - one of them just attacked me, spun around in my direction and bit me! They must've been training while I wasn't looking.

When all the Jaggi in area 2 are dead, the Aptonoth return. Sweet - I guess they feel safe now that there aren't any carnivores around.

Jaggia are tough - I need so many hits with the Great Sword until they go down. Good thing I already upgraded it once!

It's cute how some of the small monsters share moves with their big counterparts. For example, the Jaggia have the same hipcheck as the Great Jaggi, in miniature format.

And there we go - kill quests are usually over pretty fast. xD Still, I always like to use the opportunity to snatch some other stuff from gathering spots as well. If you can't carry everything, make sure you at least pick up the stuff from the blue ones.

Return to Moga Village (day)

Head Farmer: "The Guild informed me you've taken care of the Jaggi herd. Nice of them to make it official and all that, but I rather would've liked a visit from the cute receptionist." Wait... Is that? This old geezer just was lovesick for the Guild Sweetheart (whatever you may think of that), so he made up a quest and hoped she’d come over? Jeez...

And then he just hands me some bomb casings as a reward. I mean, I'm grateful, but... How did you get these? Why do you even have them? Couldn't you have used them to make something to scare the Jaggi away yourself? (What are you hiding from me, Head Farmer?!)

And the biggest disappointment: I didn't even get any new Felynes (I would've at least expected that, since the Head Farmer claimed it would make them "feel better".) So basically, I just killed a bunch of Jaggi(a) because the Head Farmer wanted a date with the Guild Sweetheart he didn't get anyway. Great.

Btw, the "rarer" plants also cost more resources to cultivate. Waterblock Seeds cost 20 resource points per cycle, and Might Seeds cost 80 per cycle (in fact, if I were to cultivate Might Seeds for 3 cycles, it would use up all of my current resource points).

Out of curiosity, I carried the Poogie to my house before the last quest to see if it would stay there. Turns out it doesn't - I suppose I'll always have to go to the farm before setting out on quests to cuddle my Poogie, then. (Because even if it's just a rumor, we will religiously cuddle our Poogies to get that bonus chance for rare quest rewards.)

Also, I bought the first Book of Combos from the item shop. The irony is that when I had the book in my box, I actually failed to combine a Bugnet once and an Iron Pickaxe twice. xD (Considering this, it's almost miraculous how I managed to combine an iron pickaxe in the field twice, with just 75% success.)

Quest: Prescription Pick-Up

For the purpose of this quest, I'll bring along my Sword & Shield again so I can stun the Kelbi (even upgraded it once for a little more damage output). Also, I threw out the potions for now, since the first-aid meds should be enough and the Kelbi most likely aren't going to tear me to pieces.

Medicine Man: "Congestion, back aches, performance anxiety - my patients are going to the dogs! Two Kelbi horns would cure all of them." I thought Kelbi horns only helped against stomach problems. Now they're said to work against back aches and psychological stress as well? What kind of wonder drug is this?

Guild Sweetheart: "Come back safe and sound, alright?" Aww, don't worry - I will. :-)

I only realized now that you actually get 5 first-aid meds from the supply box instead of the usual 3. Very generous.

You only get Warm Pelts if you slay the Kelbi. Makes sense, since you can't skin them without killing them.

However, stunning them also adds to the kill count, apparently? (At least the Kelbi I stunned were counted as "kills" for the subquest.)

There are lots of Kelbi in area 7. Time to farm some Kelbi horns for my own stock, now that I've got the two required for the quest safely in my bag. (As the Guild teaches us: Never help someone without taking something for yourself.)

If you hurt the female Kelbi, they just try to run away. Meanwhile, if you attack the male Kelbi, they actually fight back. I guess that's because male Kelbi are more aggressive when provoked? (They are MH's deer, after all.)

After farming some horns and materials from the Kelbi (and probably almost driving the Moga Woods’ population to extinction), I'm gonna do my usual round to gather some items for extra cash. (The Red Coral Stones you find in the underwater areas are - as their description says - a great way to make quick money. You almost always get some from piles of bones strewn across the ocean floor, so you can easily get a stack of ten which is worth a good sum.)

Funnily enough, touching the tentacles of the jellyfish (like swimming below them) doesn't do any damage.

Contrary to their description as "submissive herbivores" that "panic when danger is present", the Epioth defend the other members of their flock if you attack them! (They'll give you one swipe with the tail, then swim away.)

If you're fighting close to the surface and the camera is positioned outside the water, the fighting sounds are actually muffled. I gotta say, that's a really cool detail!

If you stay around for a bit, you can watch the Epioth grazing on the ocean floor. Their description does say they "subsist on water grasses and moss", so I suppose they're something like the manatees of the MH world.

Another thing that's great about the subquests is that especially during the early game, they're a great way to earn some extra money. I've got 1100 zenny from the total quest reward, as opposed to just 500 from the main quest. (Plus 2450 zenny from all the account items I gathered.)

Village Talk

Guild Sweetheart: "How's the hunt going? I was super busy around here. Taking a walk, yoga... Oh, and I played with the piglet on the farm. Such a cute thing! Yeah, this was really an exhausting day." Yeah, relaxing is really a tough job. (Also, Idk, but it's hilarious to me that she seems to go to the farm pretty regularly. So, you know, it shouldn't be such a rare thing for the Head Farmer to see her?)

I gotta say though, the Head Farmer gives off serious grandpa vibes. He just forgot about what the special fertilizer does and says "I'm getting too old for this..." xD Maybe you should just start drawing your pension, eh?

Village Chief: "Hold on! Don't say anything. I can read it in your face: "She wants me to pluck mushrooms!"" Well, he obviously knows how things work in the Hunter's Guild... xD

"Don't forget that the Lagiacrus out there is still a danger. You never know when it shows up and... HELP, BEHIND YOU! Haha, just kidding, hunter!" Very funny.

"Everything can happen on a hunt, so you've got to be ready for anything." Perfect summary of Monster Hunter, actually. (However, more often than not, "be ready for anything" actually means "be ready for all kinds of exceptionally stupid coincidences".)

The Chief tells us that the farm is situated on a "cliff near the village". That actually makes sense, since you can see a panorama of Moga in the background at the farm's entrance; so, it can't be in the immediate vicinity of the village. Still, since there doesn't seem to be a path directly connecting the village and the farm, I wonder if they also go there by boat?

"The Outfitter only thinks about the ultimate weapon. If there really was something like an ultimate weapon, of course every hunter in the world would use it. Actually, it's only about preferences. Somewhere out there, there's the ideal weapon for YOU, and that one you have to look for!" Nicely said. Everyone has a different playstyle, so the weapon which is ideal for you might be entirely unfitting for someone else. It goes even farther than that, too: The definition of "ideal" is literally different for every person, so although it might sound cheesy, you really have to listen to your heart and do what's fulfilling to you.

Chief's son: "These torches from the fireplace are for the villagers, but... It's too dangerous bringing them into the village. Do you want to burn everything down?" Would you care to tell me, then, why there's a large torch standing right behind you?

"These buzzing Bnahabra are so annoying." Oh, trust me, they're not nearly as bad as the Vespoids from the 1st and 2nd gen. The Vespoids paralyze you, like, with every second sting - until now, the Bnahabra haven't paralyzed me once. (Tbh, I have a feeling the Bnahabra might be the response to MH fans raging over the Vespoids; so, Capcom just decided to make something like a "Vespoid light".)

Item vendor: "You can use barrel bombs underwater, too. A triumph of science!" Now that you mention it: It actually is noteworthy that you can use barrel bombs underwater. Back in Freedom Unite, you literally couldn't use them if it was raining in the jungle at night. Considering that Large Barrel Bombs are made with gunpowder, this actually makes sense, since gunpowder won't ignite if it's wet. I suppose they finally figured out how to put the gunpowder in a waterproof capsule, then.

"A Needleberry works wonders against stress at acupuncture points." So Needleberries are used for acupuncture - nice to know.

Gossip Lady: "Whenever monsters get to close to the village, we scare them with bombs." Since you're all so adamant about not bringing any torches/fire into the village, the same would probably go for bombs. So, if they're blowing up any bombs, they're most likely doing near the entrance to the village in area 1 (where you start out if you go hunting in the Moga Woods).

So, the Gossip Lady tells me about stunning Kelbi to cut off their horns (a little late, but thanks anyway), and there's a little pun at the end where she says "You don't know if the Kelbi are "down" for it? I don't get it." (Funny that she doesn't seem to understand any wordplays aside from her own. xD) I'm not sure if my translation above is accurate, but this line is actually pretty funny in my localization: It uses an idiom that means "up for it", but the literal translation of the word would be "buck", as in roebuck (the closest English adjective I can find to it is "horny", but that has kind of a different implication... xD).

Smith: "All products that leave my artisan shop have a hundred years gurantee!" Well, I hope so - I'll make sure to hold you to it.

"Be careful about storing iron equipment! It rusts in the salty wind!" I believe that - also, it's gonna make the job of my Felyne housekeeper so much easier if I take good care of it myself.

Chamberlyne: "I make your bed every day so you can always take a nap. And then there's the laundry and cleaning everything up... You're lucky that Felynes love cleanliness!" You know, if it was up to me, you'd get a medal for "employee of the month". Housekeeping may not be the most popular job, but without the help of our trusty Felyne, our daily routine would most likely be a mess. (That Felynes love cleanliness is kinda a cute detail, though; it definitely shows they're cats. xD)

"Did you see the large windmill over there? It's my job to repair it if it's broken. Quite a lot of work." What?! Not only is the Felyne charged with doing all the housekeeping for me, they're also obliged to step in as a construction worker if need be? Seriously, give this kitty a break...

Meanwhile, I can't afford to take a break since I still have some quests to do. Next time, there's gonna be some more aquatic action when we tackle the Sunken Treasures and Goldenfish quests. See ya then!

Iya, bro. Jaman gua dulu convert ke TS4 settingan SSAO intensity-nya di edit dari 1 jadi 0 gara-gara ada garis item nembus di CC nya. Lama-lama capek jadinya bolak balik klik klik material... phong... material... material lagi... terus save... cuma buat edit settingan SSAO intensity nya.

Karena gua pake metode yang diajarin tutorial yang tinggal import specular dari export-an TS3 TSR Workshop dimasukin ke semua DST image, ternyata malah jadinya ada muncul bayangan gelap. Harusnya yang diimport ke s4studio itu DST paling bawah dijadiin normal map ngikutin format alpha dari .dds original EA, bukan specular semua. Sekarang udah gak ada bayangan gelap nembus ke CC jadi settingan SSAO intensity gak perlu diedit lagi.

Dulu:

DST image atas bawah semuanya sama Spec dari export-an dari TSR Workshop tanpa diedit lagi. Makanya alphanya beda sendiri dan ngaco.

the original Safety, for example, is only beatable on the alternate ending, the main route is impossible (as far as i know). so does that mean that this video of it i took after editing the game in rpg maker to make it possible, a record of the first person to ever see it???

the world that moga/bilexth made these games in, and that i played them in, no longer exists. certainly most of the devs from that time seem to have vanished from my sight.

Akhirnya habis juga minggu ni, alhamdulillah. Sangat packed dan penuh rasa stress ye sebab kena settlekan tugasan kita yang tertangguh disebabkan orang lain juga.

Semalam agak perit sikit sebab malam tu kita tidur lambat sebab guru pembimbing kata nak cerap esok kena guna LCD so kita pun struggle la buat bahan guna slide Canva dan sebagainya. Dan esoknya baru terfikir nak tanya GP yang patutnya hari ni nak ulangkaji sebab 2 hari dah habis satu bab so hari Khamis tu nak masuk tajuk baru ke sebab kalau ikut RPT kena tajuk yang sama so saya keliru nak tetap tajuk yang sama buat ulangkaji atau masuk tajuk baru terus gitu. Lps tu gp pun cakap teruskan je tajuk baru sebab sepatutnya kita dah jauh, kita kira lambat la jugak sampai tajuk tu.

Maka segala struggle malam tadi buat 2 slide tau, satu slide nota dan satu slide kuiz terbiar begitu saja. Penat tapi nak buat macam mana kena la ready RPH tajuk baru, kelam kabut buat BBM, set induksi pun simple² je. Nasib baiklah kelas tengah hari so cukup² masa je kita siapkan semua, tapi bila nak mengajar je rasa nervous gila, dia rasa macam semput + penat + kurang bersedia bab tu. Nampaklah mcm kurang kat situ. Ahh stress. Disebabkan kita banyak fokus kat diri sendiri yang kena cerap, budak tidur pun tak larat nak tegur huhu.

Tu baru satu kelas, lps zohor pula ada kelas lain tapi guna bahan yang sama cuma kali ni nak record sekali alang² banyak bahan kan. Dah habis semua tu kena la edit video semua tu. Part ni la paling tak suka sebab kita record video tu dekat fon mak kita sebab fon sendiri tak cukup storage then lepas guna selalu transfer video tu dekat laptop untuk post dekat youtube channel. Tapi video yang direcord dari minggu lepas pun tak sampai², hantar kat Telegram semua memang tak lepas. Memang stress tau. Malam Khamis tu memang struggle la nak transfer dah try guna bluetooth jugak sampai kita tertidur dengan laptop sekali sebab lama sangat nak sampai.

Then esok pagi sedar laptop dah mati teruslah siap² pergi sekolah. Lps solat cuba la lagi tengok kat tele lepas tak video semalam, tapi malangnya tak lepas juga. Stress betul pagi². Datang sekolah try lagi tapi tak boleh jugak. Hampir² nak menangis time tu sebab GP nak tengok katanya, kita pun dah try hard. Kita cuba la tahan, tenangkan diri, pergi makan dulu lepas tu baru fikir balik.

Dalam jam 10 macam tu baru terfikir, tak payah la transfer² semua, kita cuba post je la video tu kat channel YouTube kat fon mak kita tu. Tapi bila nak post tinggal satu video je guys, video minggu lepas je ada, video semalam hilang lesap tanpa jejak. Tu yang membuatkan kita lagi stress. Kita pun bagitau lah keadaan tu dekat GP, dia kata ok je alhamdulillah. Cuma video yang post kat youtube mak kita tu lambat sikit la nak proses, tengah hari baru siap. Takpelah kita redha walaupun kena tambah lagi satu video.

Jadinya malam ni kita pergi healing ikut abang kita pergi Shah alam. Nak healing sorang tak berani haha so kita teman abang kita ada meeting kat sana. Better la sekarang.

Tu je lah kisah struggle di hujung² praktikum ni haha.

Iseng-Iseng, Bikin-Bikin

Desain grafis.

Entah kapan dimulainya, tahu-tahu saya sangat suka mengamatinya. Mungkin sejak jaman Pak sering membawa pulang majalah Elle dan Marie Claire Prancis yang didapatnya di kantor. Mungkin dari buku-buku cerita bergambar yang dibeli Mak setiap kali ia bertemu toko buku. Tetapi yang pasti, sejak bertemu dengan Bebe Indah Miryam, desain grafis itu jadi amatlah menggoda. Saya rajin mengamatinya membuat layout tempat kami bekerja, Gadis. Ketika ia membuat rancangan baru buat Gadis, termasuk mengganti logonya: oooh, saya seperti permen karet, yang menempel di bawah bangku. Nggak mau lepas. Dari Bebe juga saya dapat buku Editing by Design karya Jan V. White. Buku besar dan tebal yang membuat saya belajar banyaaaaaaaaak sekali, dan sampai hari-hari terakhir saya di dunia majalah, ilmu dari buku ini tetap berlaku.

Ketika bekerja di biro iklan, contekan saya bertambah berkat kerja bersama para partner art director saya. Widyalupi Nonis, Maria K. Sum, Ria Untari, adalah teman kerja sekaligus kakak guru yang sampai sekarang ilmunya tetap saya simpan.

Desain grafis.

Barangkali ini yang membuat saya ngotot kembali ke dunia majalah. Bukan menulisnya, tetapi melihat bagaimana tulisan jadi begitu hidup berkat desain. Dengan atau tanpa foto, tulisan bisa dibuat menggoda untuk dibaca. Training perihal majalah Cosmopolitan di New York membuat saya memahami lebih jauh tentang desain grafis, yang ternyata memerlukan logika. Tak melulu rasa. Noni Soeparman adalah rekan kerja sekaligus partner adu ngotot setiap kali kami akan mengeksekusi cover.

Desain grafis.

Terlalu menggoda untuk tidak dicoba. Dan hari itu tiba ketika Dua Ibu akan membuat album musikalisasi puisi. Minta tolong pada seorang desainer, nggak jadi-jadi. Minta pada yang lain, hasilnya sungguh tak menggembirakan hati. Akhirnya nekat bikin sendiri. Dibantu Andri Sonda, saya minta ia mengajari aplikasi photoshop (super sederhana) dan indesign (secukupnya). Setiap langkah saya catat, lalu utak-atik sendiri. Oh, keringetannya seperti air curahan dari ember, dong. Deras. Tapi hati terlalu geram untuk menyerah.

Cover album Gadis Kecil, dibuat dengan memanfaatkan foto Soca yang sedang main hujan, dan tulisan tangan saya yang “ibu-ibu” banget (andalan bikin surat ijin nggak olahraga buat teman-teman SMP). Ketika jadi, banyak yang berkomentar, sederhana tapi nendang. Terima kasih. Sederhana karena bisanya itu, hahaha… Kalau nendang, mungkin karena pakai warna andalan: merah.

Setelah itu, album Becoming Dew. Yang ini –menurut saya—tidak sukses sama sekali. Tetapi album ini kan dibikin hanya buat dokumentasi dari dua orang yang baru berbaikan setelah musuhan sekian tahun. Jadi biar kelihatan, tercatat, ya pakai cover deh. Dibuat dengan memanfaatkan foto suami dan type face yang ada di computer saat itu. Usaha: less than zero.

Desain grafis.

Dan saya semakin tergoda, semakin nekat mencoba ini itu. Hampir semua cover album AriReda saya pembuat desainnya. Kecuali Suara dari Jauh, yang semua gambarnya dibuat oleh seniman idola, Ruth Marbun. Setelah proyek yang satu ini, saya kembali menggunakan karya Ruth untuk album terakhir, AriReda Menyanyikan Puisi Sapardi Djoko Damono.

Membuat desain cover album tak selalu langsung jadi. Seperti album kedua AriReda, yang muncul 8 tahun setelah album pertama itu. Waduh desain yang nggak masuk seleksi lebih dari 25! Bahkan sempat minta bantuan dua desainer untuk ikutan bikin. Tetapi tidak lolos seleksi kurator saat itu: Hendro Yuwono, Felix Dass, dan Ari Malibu. Sampai putus asa rasanya. Cover yang akhirnya terpilih, saya buat setelah melihat pameran karya Ibu Sri Astari Rasjid di Kawasan Kota Tua. Terpesona saya pada patung Drupadi buatannya. Saya foto dari belakang, lalu iseng-iseng saya beri tambahan gambar daun, lalu beri teks. Eh, langsung approved! Moga-moga emang mereka senang, bukan karena kasihan sama saya yang tiap hari kirim desain.

Desain grafis.

Ada apanya ya? Kok bisa begitu menggelitik? Mungkin bermain dengan gambar, dengan teks, dengan warna. Apa pun itu, saya jadi senang mendesain. Dari cover album, merambah ke cover buku, sampai desain buku secara utuh (Na Willa itu saya yang desain, dirapikan oleh Cik Guru Noni Soeparman).Semua bikin “nyala” meski ada juga sisi nggak asiknya ketika memeriksa teks, foto/gambar jangan sampai terpotong/tertimpa teks(ini sering terjadi, sih) sebelum naik cetak.

Satu yang bikin agak gimanaaaa pas bikin adalah buku Catatan Perjalanan AriReda. Tiap baca teksnya, ada saja yang mau ditambah dan diganti dan dihapus. Kacau. Untung ada Felix yang gebah-gebah, jadi selesai tepat waktu. Oya, satu hal yang selalu bikin gemas adalah soal pilihan fonts/typeface. Kalau kerja sama Felix, dia hampir selalu complain soal huruf yang saya pilih. Kurang modern. Kurang kekinian. Kurang sleek. Pas dia bilang begitu, saya selalu jawab, “Masak sih?” Tapi setelah diam sebentar, dan dilihat-lihat lagi dengan hati tenang, yang dia bilang itu benar adanya, hahahaha. Kurang ngulik huruf banget! Belajar lagi nanti, ya.

Eh, belajar lagi? Memangnya mau desain-desain terus? Hmm, nggak tahu ya. Tapi yang pasti beberapa bulan lalu, sempat bikin desain logo dan selongsong untuk restoran kesayangan, The Yap’s Kitchen. Saya suka banget ngerjainnya. Semoga yang dibikinin senang juga.

Jadi akan mendesain terus? Barangkali. Meski telunjuk sering pegal dan mendadak kaku karena kelamaan geser-geser trackpad dan kesal kalau ada yang terlewat karena nggak teliti, kegiatan yang satu ini sangatlah mengasyikkan.

Okay so I’m gonna take the L and admit I’ve never played the other 2 games, I just watched the cut-scene movies on YouTube, and while I enjoyed the story and characters of the first 2, when I watched Mafia 3′s it DID something to me. So I actually went out and got the game so I can play it all myself.

First things first, I’m gonna wonder why people seem to hate this game so much until the day I die, sure it’s glitchy but not as bad as any Bethesda glitch I’ve seen and nothing game breaking, more or less just funny stuff like “lol that cop car exploded in the middle of the street. I’m gucci tho.”. I really like the time-period cause I actually like learning about the 60′s in American history because SO MUCH important stuff was set in motion back then. Others seem to not like how it’s nt focused on the Italian Mafia anymore and...sure?? I guess?? I mean they’re still there, you’re allied with some Italians while taking out the bigger Italian crime family (I think they’re mad that the protag is black and it’s an important part of the game tbh) And another complaint I see a lot is the games too repetitive, I think that’s the lamest excuse personally. I played this after I beat Far Cry 6, and honestly? It was NICE! I like being able to sneak and take people down, or just blow up everything! Maybe it’s cause I’m autistic perhaps (ASD gang rise up!) but having a pattern was nice for me, I have a specific way of playing and it was fun. Hell, I’ve beat the game twice already cause it felt nice to play.

I know this game came out in 2016 and I’m way late to the party, I became aware of the Mafia series in 2021 and finally played Mafia 3 in March 2022. And I need to be physically restrained from playing it a third time lol.

Because I’m on the Spectrum™...

I would post this on my art blog but what good would that do? I guess this is unofficially also a fandom blog... anyways

So! A thing I like doing is figuring out timelines, time frames, dates and fun stuff like that. And I gotta say, the timeline of events in Mafia 3 is INFURIATING! And according to THIS it’s the lead world designers preferred playthrough. I know I probably should take this with a huge grain of salt, but going by this it throws so many things out of wack (especially making Sign of the Times be the last DLC story you touch)

So, February 27th is when things kinda kick off, Lincoln’s friends and family are killed and he’s left for dead by the Marcanos.

Bullet wound takes on average 2 months at most to recover from (from mixed sources 😵)

Lincoln was still bed ridden when MLK was assassinated on April 4th. So I assume he was walking a bit after that, mid-April.

So mid April is when he was up moving around and getting things set up.

The DLC’s, despite not supposing to be in order, 1 of them has a specific date correlated with it.

The DLC stories become available after you get have all the under bosses and do that Sit Down mission.

The “Sign of the Times” DLC introduces character, Anna McGee, without getting too much into it, her death date on her grave is “June 6th 1968

So, set time or no, this implies the cult shenanigans happen immediately while Lincoln is getting into contact with Cassandra, Vito and Burke and he’s juggling them on top of this.

Must happen only in the span of a few days, not even a week.

For the rest of June, I guess Lincoln works at a more normal pace but still a lot going on at once.

For reason the only record date one of the Marcano Capo’s is Lou, and that’s in July, so I assume the Judge gets clapped early July.

Some thoughts about characters and how some folks treat them:

John Donovan: Love this guy, wish I had more info about him that isn't all surface level and stuff I had to make up for a headcanon, but jeez I swear, at least on YouTube comments, it’s like people want to make him the Mafia games equivalent of Deadpool. Cause he’s “wacky” and “chaotic” and they want him to be the next games protag, once again, love this guy, but oh my god, NO! I think he works best as a side character and at most a secondary protag (like for Stones Unturned). If there was a game with him...what would it be? Just assassinate politicians in the 70′s simulator? Won’t be a Mafia game then would it unless he goes back to the Clay Family. That’s just YouTube comments I see though, but I got thoughts.

Vito Scaletta: I have to be clear, I DO LIKE Vito, but I think I liked him more in Mafia 3, very much Italian Uncle I deeply deserved in life vibes, I will admit though, even though I like him in M3, I feel like the devs leaned in on him being there as like, a selling point? While I enjoyed M2, I will admit as faves in order go, it’s Mafia 3, Mafia 1, and Mafia 2. Vito was getting dragged along for a lot of the events in M2 and boy, Joe was.... I wouldn't want him for a friend. Vito can be all messed up about what happened to Joe, but when I watched the cutscene movie for M2 I thought Joe was awful to Vito. Vito needs better friends :/ (also even tho I’m usually on team “RAIL THAT OLD MAN!” I think the Lincoln/Vito ship is odd, def not my thing and yet somehow not as offensive as the next character I’m about to bring up though.)

Giorgi Marcano: Oh boy where do I begin with him... I see...so many people sympathize with him or simp for him and it feels SO GROSS. (Imma be honest this mf is ugly he looks like a monkey with his busted hairstyle. Like if someone made a realistic Westernized Lupin the III but somehow removed all the charm from him). I feel like people seem to have forgotten he handed the Hollow over the the Dixie Mafia on a silver platter, that or they don’t care. The Hollow is the Black community in the game and the Dixie Mafia is all Southern Pride and Lynch mobs, all those Confederate flags... And I know that Giorgi KNEW THIS. I see people saying he was just doing what his dad said, and sure to an extent but it’s clear he enjoys what he does (He was so hyped to tell Sal what he did to Olivia), I will never forget what the Dixie boy’s did to Perla’s, to the young black women they forced to take drugs and exploited, the the specific targeting of the Black and Haitian communities in game, what they did to Casandra, etc. Giorgi was a spoiled violent Daddy’s boy that either was playing Lincoln, Ellis and Danny the whole time, or didn't care about them enough to even protest Sal’s orders against them. Even in his death scene, he never tried to apologize to Lincoln even if he knew the apology wouldn't have saved him. If they showed that, then sure I would at least admit he did care about Lincoln and all his friends that were killed, but no he didn't, just him and his old man. (PUTTING EEEEEVERRYYOOONE ON A LIST WHO SHIP LINCOLN/GIORGI! I CAME FROM THE FAR CRY FANDOM AND I’M SICK OF SEEING SO MUCH RACISM IN CHARACTER PORTRAYALS AND SHIPS! SICK AND TIRED!)

Game story and themes:

I will praise this game to the moon and back, despite it’s “flaws” like the glitches and game play. The glitches were not game breaking for me and I liked the game play honestly (I have ASD so that probably contributes to it). The driving is good despite me being a bad driver and I liked the how the weapons worked.

But I do have some thoughts about what I think was kinda lackluster and disappointing.

Lack of highlighting how horrible the Vietnam war was, condemning the army and the C.I.A. I know that’s so specific but you can’t have a Vietnam vet without having some kind of toll that it took on him, most of Lincoln’s trauma was mostly just centered around what happened to his family after he got back home, and some stuff in his childhood. Which is valid those things are traumatizing but idk, were the devs afraid? Also I know Donovan during the game is still technically in the C.I.A until he officially leaves in 1969, and he’s like, a big JFK stan, but like, does he know what Kennedy’s plans were for the C.I.A, is he blindly loyal? Was it game? I mean I know he does leave it but he’s been in the game for like 15 years, what’s going on? What’s all those war crimes for? Do the devs at Hangar 13 and 2K not wanna be put on some weird list? I don’t know, man.

My taste for found crime families keeps getting un-quenched: Looking back at the promo trailers showing Lincoln and all his under-bosses working together, with Donovan even tagging along, and seeing how the game actually played out... ow. The under-bosses hate each other, every convo between Lincoln and Cassandra feels like it leads to an argument, Burke was racist to Lincoln at the start, and....actually Vito seems like the most pleasant despite being a sad middle aged man so I’ve give him that. The most we get to them showing respect for each other is if you go to pick up kickback and talk more to them, then they’ll say nice things about each other.

Ex: Cassandra saying Vito isn't as bad as she thought, she thinks Burke is really fun. Vito thinking Burke is funny. And Burke having respect for what Vito's been through and weirdly enough, oddly respectful of her beliefs.

But that’s it, and they have no idea who Donovan is either even though he’s been working behind the scenes. And with how they are in game, I know they would NOT like him, I think Cassandra would hate him the most cause she gave Lincoln flak for willingly joining the army (I mean she’s right, I agree with her.).

So in that aspect I’m a little <:/ about. Not everything can be perfect.
