CAWAG HEXA DAYHIKE 6 mountains. 26 kilometers. 17 hours.

Alam kong masyadong ambisyoso ang pag-akyat ko ng Cawag Hexa (7/9 difficulty) lalo na't Batulao pa lang ang pinakamahirap na experience ko sa bundok—which is 4/9 and just a minor hike.

But I was feeling very bold and confident, I took the challenge. Nasurvive ko naman ang first major hike ko hahaha.

Here's a quick recap (long post ahead):

Una pa lang, sinabihan na agad kami sa jump off na mag water ration. Dahil impyerno ang Cawag due to limited water source, and open trail with hardly any trees to shed from the sun's draining heat, kailangan mo talagang magconserve ng water for 15-20 hours.

Approx 4 hours daw paakyat ng 1st mountain.

We left the jump off at 2am.

Sobrang OA nung pagka-mabato ng trail, parang rock climbing na esp sa last part ng ascent. Certain parts of the trail are slippery. Mahamog na nga, malumot pa.

Syempre hindi kumpleto ang experience kung hindi tayo nadulas hahaha. Good thing wala namang injury but minimal scratches lang on knee. Tanga lang ako for thinking na kaya kong maglakad ng mabilis on slippery slopes despite wearing proper shoes. Wala pang first summit, may sugat na agad si tanga hahaha 😅😅

MT. BALINGKILAT (1100 masl)

Reached the summit by sunrise.

We were told that the ascents of 1st and 4th mountain are the hardest among the six. Naka-ilang 'take five' din kami jusq. Palakasan ng binti at baga itong unang bundok hahaha.

May water source sa summit, yun nga lang hindi ko sure saan galing yung tubig hahaha. Buti na lang malakas sikmura ko sa mga ganito.

The descent from the 1st mountain was the most challenging. Maraming nag-back out dahil dito. Mahirap nga naman kasi dahil sa big boulders + sharp rocks + knife edge. All these while under the sun. 🥵

BUT because I love rocks, and descents are my fave, sobrang na-enjoy ko tooo. Promise para ka lang nakikipag-patintero kay kamatayan hahaha. One small step and you're gone lol 💀

MT. BIRA BIRA (450 masl)

We reached the 2nd mountain by 9am. Too bad, walang signage kaya picture na lang daw as proof hahaha.

*Yung nasa likod ko, yan lang naman yung binaybay namin papunta sa pangalawang bundok hehe 😎

On to the 3rd mountain, banayad na yung daan pero jusq lusaw na lusaw na kami. Hindi kinakaya ng payong at ng pamaypay yung pagkabanas ko hahaha

Buti na lang at mabait si lord. Mga ilang beses din kaming binigyan ng clouds kaya temporarily nakasilong kami mula sa init ng araw. 🙏🏼

MT. NAULAW (450 masl)

Sobrang weird nito kasi itong bumagsak lang na posteng to ang palatandaan mong nasa 3rd mountain ka na hahaha

Wala ulit signage kaya picture na lang kahit hulas na hahaha

Continuing to the 4th mountain, may nadaanan kaming sapa. We decided to regroup and eat our lunch here. Pahinga na rin ng konti.

Anw, wala talaga sa plano ko ang maligo pero dahil banas na banas ako, nagbasa na ko just to beat the heat. Nagpatuyo na lang kami paakyat ng 4th mountain.

Also, huling water source na to kaya after this, tipid na talaga sa tubig.

Nalagas na kami dito. From 26 pax, 12 na lang ang naglakas loob na tumuloy. We were given an option earlier to exit at Bira-Bira, kasi wala na raw exit moving forward. Pag tinuloy mo, you rly have to finish 'til jump off.

Medyo gloomy na yung weather while climbing the 4th mountain. Somehow thankful because the heat from the sun's gone. But still, kabado pa rin dahil baka abutan ng ulan sa summit.

Wala na kaming idea gaano kalayo ang peak. Nilalaban ko na lang ang bawat hakbang kasi pamatay tuhod at baga din tong bundok na to jusq.

MT. DAYUNGAN (935 masl)

Exactly when we reach the summit of the 4th mountain, saktong bumuhos yung ulan. Wala na kaming nagawa, kanya-kanyang payong at kapote na.

The 5 of us in the lead decided not to wait for the rest of them sa summit, dahil bukod sa malakas na ang ulan, kumikidlat-kidlat pa. Bumaba na kami agad and went straight to the next mountain.

Walang signage + walang clearing. Next! 😂😂

Mas lalong naging challenging ang descent from the prev mountain all the way to the 5th mountain. Aside from the cold weather and heavy rain, madulas at maputik na yung trail. The odds of falling are very high this time hahahaha

Well, tumigil na rin naman yung ulan after 20-30mins, pero sobrang dreadful na maglakad because of our wet socks and shoes.

MT. CINCO PICOS (881 masl)

Hindi ko masyadong naintindihan yung talak pero parang sarado raw talaga at hindi pa binubuksan ang Cinco Picos, and will require more than a day to climb it. Kaya diyan lang daw talaga sa area na yan (am not sure if we were at the foot of the 5th mountain) ang mga Cawag Hexa hikers.

Huminto na nga yung ulan, pero umay na umay ako sa talahib. Parang 65-70% ng trail going to the last mountain puro talahib.

Sobrang taas, humahampas na yung talahib sa mukha mo, nahaharangan pa yung path. Madulas na nga yung trail, di mo pa masyadong makita yung dinadaanan mo bc of the tall grass.

Buti na lang talaga naka-raincoat and pants ako. Hindi ako masyadong nagasgasan hehehe

MT. REDONDO (660 masl)

Finally! Ang mga bagong graduates ng Cawag Hexa dayhike hahaha.

Sobrang solid din ng mga kasabayan ko sa lead group, mapupush ka talaga to move forward. Ang lalakas! 💪🏼💪🏼

Hindi na kami masyadong nagtagal dito sa last summit kasi nagparamdam na naman yung ulan. Nag-snacks lang ng konti, pahinga, tapos laban na ulit.

*Akala ko mae-enjoy ko na yung descent pabalik ng jump off. Puro talahib pa rin pala jusq. Umay talaga. 😤

We arrived at the jump off by 7pm. Tinapos ang Cawag Hexa in 17 hours. Pinilit madaliin pabalik para di abutan ng dilim at ulan sa damuhan hahahaha.

Still amazed with my ankle mobility kasi naka-ilang tapilok at dulas ako pababa pero dedma lang hahaha. Hindi naman ako na-injure hehehe.

So that's it. I'm keeping a lot of core memories from this hike 💖

Di ko alam na pre-climb pala ang Cawag Hexa for G2. I guess, kitakits na lang sa susunod na ahon!

We were supposed to do the Cawag Hexa trail run (Mt. Balingkilat - Mt. Bira-bira - Mt. Naulaw - Mt. Dayungan - Cinco Picos - Mt. Redondo) but upon reaching the peak of Mt. Balingkilat and assessing the situation we decided to abort mission and exit at Mt. Bira-bira. As much as we wanted to continue, we were already behind schedule, the heat was too much, and our water was running out. We'd be crazy to stubbornly press on.

Even though we were unable to complete the Cawag Hexa, just the experience of climbing Mt. Balingkilat was more than enough for me. The views are all around stunning - very much worth the exhaustion and risk of dehydration.

Cawag Hexalogy is one of my bucket list for 2019. Well, my best friend Ralph recommends me to hike these mountains, he kept on telling me that this is the most challenging hike for him.

At the first everything was fine, Mr. Sun gave us the beautiful view along the trail of Mount Balingkilat where we witness those magnificent mountains of Zambales near it. So far the most difficultly mountain in Cawag was Mount Balingkilat . At exactly 8am we reached the campsite .While waiting for the others me and my best friend Froi decided to take a nap for almost 1 hour I think. Sadly to say our body momentum goes back to zero again. When we reached the summit Mr. Sun got shy, he total disappeared and leave us with no trace of his existences. The background of Mt. Balingkilat summit was full of fog.

The most dangerous in Cawag going to Mt. Bira Bira from summit of Mt. Balingkilat a lot of boulder stone along the trail at that moment the rain starting to pour. If you cannot control your body you may end up rolling in the trail and good luck if you gonna be alive after. The two hikers want to exit in Mt. Bira Bira but we encourage them that the trek will gonna be easy and “MALAPIT NA KAHIT HINDI NAMAN TALAGA”

When we reached the Mt. Naulaw the 7 of us “Lead Pacer” decided to go due of heavy rain and wind. We didn’t wait for the others. We don’t want to end up having a Hypothermia this is a medical emergency that occurs when your body loses heat. The most common causes of this is cold weather or staying out in the cold too long.

From Mt. Naulaw take us almost 2 hours and then we decided to take the lunch at Paanang ng Dayuhan. Wall Mt. Dayungan have assault, but is easy like not Mt. Balingkilat. So far, even it is raining, we manage to enjoy the hike, and then when we reached the summit of Mt. Dayungan we meet painful raindrops.

And here we go again going walking and walking like zombie char hahaha to the 5th Mountain which is Mt. Cinco Picos we swept by the wind. I got an idea to put some stone in my bag to prevent being swept.

The effortless mountain “Mt. Redondo “but swear I really hate and curse this because of tallest Talahib that is taller than me. I got lots or rashes and scratches here. I keep on cheering the team that “ uy malapit na tayo” the truth is we need to walk for almost 4 hours to reach the summit of Mt. Redondo.

Special mention to these beautiful people who make my hike, so much fun and amazing.

It is Lonely because I never expected one of the most treasure human I have will ruin me because of false accusations. Mas masakit pa sa heart break to. I got depressed kasi naman di ko akalain na ganun pala talaga sila. But life goes on. Pag may nawala may darating Nawalan man ako ng Kaibingan. I got new which is true. I don’t need a lot of friends I just need “TRUE FRIENDS”😍

Cawag Hexa DayHike - The Ultimate Hell Hike

After having minor climb for the past two-months since I started hiking, I didn’t want to be called “beginner” again, so I tried to find some major hike that’s available on my chosen date. My first choice to be my major hike is Montablan Hexalogy but I can’t find any events since I only looked the day before the hike itself. Then I found Cawag Hexa event the next day. I immediately messaged the organizer that I’m interested to join without telling her that I’m a beginner and this will be my first major hike just to make sure that she would let me join. And she did.

The Cawag hexa consists of 6 peaks compressed into a dayhike, thus the “hexa” part. Mt. Balingkilat (1100 masl), Mt. Bira-bira (450 masl), Mt. Naulaw, Mt. Dayungan (935 masl), Mt. Cinco Picos (881 masl) and Mt. Redondo (660 masl).

I met the event organizer and her team at Shaw Greenfields before riding a private van to Zambales. At the local police station, we had our group photo taken for security and safety purposes.  

The local officer also gave us a short briefing. Then we had another few-minutes ride to Sitio Cawag to get our guides. Here, they gave us a short preview of how strenuous the climb’s gonna be, and we’ve also been informed of our options to cut the hexalogy to penta, quadra, or just trilogy if we feel like we can’t make the hexa hike considering time-constraint and other difficulties. 

We started initial trek from the jump-off at 4:30AM. 

There were tall grasses with sharp edges that can give you itch or even cut your skin. In tagalog we call those plants "talahib". 

This is how our pacing looks like on our way to the summit. There’s great distance between us.

Slowly but surely we made our way up and as the sun starts to rise, I had a better view of Mt. Balingkilat knife-edge assault that surely intimidated me.  Extra caution must be taken hiking that part of the trail.

From the summit of Mt. Balingkilat we were rewarded with wonderful view of Nagsasa cove was stunning and we couldn’t resist getting pictures. We got a quick group picture before heading down the traverse trail to the next peaks. 

Finally, after a long climb down a long rocky ridge, we got to the foot of Bira-bira peak. 

We started to get really tired at navigating Bira-Bira and Naulaw peak. Having the nice views of the ocean tame us to start traverse-descent and just have a side-trip to the beach. But I don’t wanna disappoint myself in my first major hike. Some of us also decided not to finish hexalogy anymore and started traverse to Bira-Bira.

Here, I noticed that guideship here is not as good as in other mountains. Our guide would sometimes leave our group far behind and he wouldn’t really keep track of all the participants. All they would do is point you in the right direction and it’s up to you to follow. 

Mt. Bira-Bira has the lowest elevation among the mountains we scaled. Bira-bira peak and Naulaw peak  marked by an antenna of some sort. To be honest I don’t think they’re really mountains as they look more like low ridges one had to traverse to get to Mt. Dayungan. 

After some rolling trails, we reached the foot of Mt. Dayungan, the fourth peak. There’s river where the last water source is located so we also decided to have our lunch here. After a short nap, we woke up and continued the hike to the next major climb. 

It was until that difficult moment when half of the team decided to stop and just go back because of the dehydrating weather condition There’s five people on the lead team who pushed thru with My. Dayungan, and four of us on the mid. While, the rest of our group decided to just skip Mt. Dayungan and go straight to the 5th and last mountain. Climbing Mt. Dayungan is quiet a big deal at this time because it is one of the three major ascents in this circuit, along with Mt. Balingkilat and Mt. Cinco Picos. It’s also the hottest part of the climb. With the perseverance of some of us despite the extreme heat we pushed forward to Mt. Dayungan. 

After escaping the trees of the water source, it was open trails all the way under the sun. The journey to Dayungan is indeed a hell-hike. The trail is burnt, no shades from trees, the air is dry, and I can really feel the heat reach underneath my skin. 

We had no choice but to find little shade from small rocks for take 5′s.

We we’re moving so slow under the sweltering noontime heat. I had to stop for a moment with my eyes closed, just to tell myself to keep going and I can do it. As we kept going in spite of the intense heat, we climbed until we reached the top of the fourth peak. 

The climb to Dayungan was steep, rocky, and dusty, but finally we reached the rocky summit. We enjoyed the amazing scenery of Silanguin and Anawangin coves while recovering energy. We descended carefully seeing the knife edges that we have to tackle as we head to the next mountain. 

I told my friends that I will rush going down and try to catch up with the lead team so I went ahead and started trekking without any take-5′s. I said hi to them and just continued trekking so I can catch up with the lead team. Despite the heat, I managed to maintain a good pace and I still have energy. 

I saw our sweep team on my way to Cinco Picos, but instead of resting, I continued to make my way down more ridges and valleys to catch up with the lead team, and gladly I did.

The sun set as we made our way through the last mountain, Mt. Redondo. I already ran out of water by the time we reached the 5th mountain. I realized that I don’t have a headlamp and I’m not sure if my powerbank flashlight could make it till we reach jump-off. So that means I need to stay close with the lead team to make sure I can share their lights.

I literally walked blind through the tall grasses but I still tried my best to walk faster, ignoring my scratches, in order to catch up with the lead team.  My every step was only guided by shared lights from the headlamps of the hiker infront of me. We passed through several local houses until we reached the familiar jump-off.

We were the first group to descend. While waiting for the rest of our team, I washed off and had some dinner with the rest of the lead. There’s only one carinderia that’s open and we’re lucky to be able to have dinner even with just few meals left. I need to advise anyone who wants to do Cawag Hexa to bring lots of food because there’s no stops or carinderias along the way. Once you leave the jumpoff, you have to be self-sufficient until you return.

I fell asleep all the way back to Manila. I didn’t have much energy left and the climb really drained me.

As my first major hike, this climb was really difficult for me. The endless descending and ascending ridges was tremendously long and draining. The lack of water sources was definitely an added challenge and it did help me get used to hiking with minimum hydration.

gelip yanıma şezlonga uzandın, etraf sakindi, yanımızdaki şezlonglar boştu ve bizi duyacak kimse yoktu, denizden senden sonra çıkan gençlerde 6-7 mt uzağımızdaydılar, gözleri sendeydi, sen de bu ilgilerine karşılık verip, şezlonga onuzunun üstünde yan uzandın, bacaklarını poponu seyretsinler istiyodun, onlarda sedyrediyodu, ben gunes gozluklerimi takmistim, ve sanki karıma bsktıklarının farkında değilim gibi davranıyodum

U nedelju, 10. marta odgledali smo finalnu, 12. epizodu serije "Besa" koja se emitovala proteklih meseci na mts SuperStar TV kanalu. Oni koji su pratili pomno Uroša Perića, Dardana Berišu, Petrita Kocija i druge uzbudljive likove ove krimi drame, znaju da je nakon poslednje epizode mnogo stvari ostalo nedorečeno.
