NDC SA Women's Wing supports 3 constituencies with ¢62,000 worth of sanitary pads to improve menstrual hygiene

NDC SA Women's Wing supports 3 constituencies with ¢62,000 worth of sanitary pads to improve menstrual hygiene
In a spirit of giving back to society anchored on improving menstrual hygiene amongst young girls, the South African Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has donated ¢62,000.00 worth of sanitary pads to 3 constituencies in Ghana.
In the ongoing donation exercise which started on Thursday, 14th March and ended on Sunday 17th March 2024, over 300 students from the St. Margaret Mary Senior High School, Dansoman, Ablekuma West Constituency, and the same number of girls in Okaikwei North Constituency respectively, received two packs of sanitary pads each. In all, about 2,540 pieces of pads were distributed. In the Ablekuma West and Okaikwei North donations, together with the upcoming Wa exercise, an amount of about ¢62,000.00 has been expended.
The Wa donation exercise, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 23, 2024, at the Methodist School For The Blind Conference Hall, is targeted at girls with special needs. The NDC SA Women’s Wing intends to donate about 540 pieces of pads during the exercise. These donation exercises which started last year in August are part of phase two, themed “Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Hygiene, ‘Sanitary Pads’ Phase 2”.
During the presentation ceremony at Okaikwei North Constituency, Madam Wilbertina Buxton, South Africa NDC Women’s Wing Organizer, remarked that this is the continuation of the second phase of the donation exercise and it is aimed at supporting young girls through menstrual hygiene with free sanitary pads. “This gesture isn’t because we’ve too much to spare but it’s part of our token contribution towards improving the general well-being of our younger ones, including those with special needs”, Madam Buxton highlighted.
She furthered that with this gesture, they are also embarking on advocacy to encourage young girls to use hygienic sanitary towels when menstruating, emphasising the need to forestall any future health complication arising from the use of unhygienic materials.
This initiative by the NDC Women’s Wing of South Africa signifies their commitment to projecting women’s needs and bringing it to the fore, underscoring the exigencies of the time and why the government, Parliament, and all political actors must address the challenges women face.
Again, Madam Buxton noted, “There is no need for a woman, especially young girls, to struggle just because she is going through her menstrual cycle. They should not have to use unhygienic materials, and shouldn’t skip school due to stained uniforms resulting from improper menstrual materials. This is improper and inappropriate in the 21st century”, Wilbertina Buxton averred.
The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma West Constituency, Rev. Kweku Addo urged the students to send the good message of the NDC to their parents, encouraging them to vote massively for him and John Dramani Mahama come December 2024 elections.
He took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the SA NDC Women Wing and Mr. Benjamín Quashie, NDC SA Council of Elders Chair for being the main sponsor of the project. The next train of the sanitary pads donation stops at Wa on March 23, 2024 to empower visually challenged girls.
Madam Buxton is expected to be accompanied by Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, NDC Running Mate for elections 2024, Dr. Mrs. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, National Women Organizer, Rita Oye Dartey, SA Women Chapter Organizer, Maame Afua Sekyi-Addo, Deputy Director for IRD, and Hon. Joyce Gyamfi, National Coordinator For Women With Disabilities Women’s Working Committee.
The rest are Prisca Domenyevi Kuupol, NDC Upper West Region Women Organizer, Gifty Afi Wetsi, Middle Belt Coordinator For Women With Disabilities and Elizabeth Abdulai, Northern Belt Coordinator For Women With Disabilities Women’s Wing Working Committee.

FADF and NDC SA Women's Wing donate sanitary pads to schools in Guan Constituency, Oti Region.
New Post has been published on https://plugzafrica.com/fadf-and-ndc-sa-womens-wing-donate-sanitary-pads-to-schools-in-guan-constituency-oti-region/
FADF and NDC SA Women's Wing donate sanitary pads to schools in Guan Constituency, Oti Region.
The Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in South Africa in collaboration with the Fred Agbenyo Development Fund (FADF) has donated sanitary pads to two schools in the Guan Constituency of the Oti Region of Ghana.
The beneficiary institutions were the Lipke Secondary School and Akpafu Secondary Technical School of the Guan constituency.
During the presentation ceremony on Sunday, 25th February 2024, at the Lipke Secondary School, Madam Wilbertina Buxton, SA NDC Women’s Wing Organizer revealed that this is the second phase of the donation exercise which started last year in August. This year’s donation exercise was themed “Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Hygiene, ‘Sanitary Pads’ Phase 2”.
According to her, it is a project aimed at empowering young girls through menstrual hygiene by providing them with free sanitary pads. “This year we intend to run the project in all the regions of Ghana before the elections across the country and we’re starting with the Oti Region, specifically the Guan Constituency”.
“Our main aim for this drive is to advocate to parliament, to the present government and to our incoming president, H.E. John Mahama that we want a tax-free sanitary pad policy or provide sanitary pads free to all women especially, our young adults across the country”, she emphasised.
She however underscored the fact that the cycle women go through to be identified as women isn’t a choice but a compulsion by nature. “It isn’t a choice but we have to go through it to become women. That is part of our identity and why should we struggle to get materials to use when menstruating?”, she quizzed.
“This gesture is a testament to the resolve of the NDC Women’s Wing of South Africa to demonstrate to government, Parliament, the flagbearer and incoming president of Ghana, to appreciate the plight of women and why something ought to be done urgently”, she noted.
She added, “There is no need for a woman, especially young girls, to struggle just because she is going through her menstrual cycle. They should not have to use unhygienic materials, they don’t have to skip school just because their uniforms got stained due to the usage of improper materials. This is improper and inappropriate”, she affirmed.
Again, she averred that they are supporting the 24-hour economy of the NDC flagbearer, so should any woman experience the urge to menstruate at any given time, she can rush to a chemist, a pharmacy or a clinic or shop to get a pad to buy at any given time of the day. “Hopefully, next week, March 2, 2024, we’re touching base at Asante Region and on March 8, we’re touching base at Greater Accra Region”, she hinted.
Madam Buxton was in the company of PC for Guan Constituency, Hon Fred Agbenyo, the Regional Women Organiser for Oti Region, the Guan Constituency Executives, Ablekuma West Constituency Women Organiser and her Branch and Ward Executives.

Removing taxes on sanitary pads would serve the greater good of girls, women - SA NDC Women's Wing to government

Removing taxes on sanitary pads would serve the greater good of girls, women - SA NDC Women's Wing to government
The second phase of the South African National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Wing Sanitary Pads project visited Effiduasi Asokore Constituency with a call on government to waiver all taxes on sanitary pads.
This, according to the NDC SA Women’s Wing, would reduce the cost of sanitary towels which invariably would improve women’s menstrual hygiene.
In a shared value of assisting the less privileged and also energising the base of the NDC, the donation ceremony was held at the Tijaniya Senior High School in Effiduasi Asokore on Sunday, March 3, 2024. The programme was themed “Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Hygiene – Victory for John Mahama”.
Delivering a speech at the function, Madam Wilbertina Buxton, SA NDC Women’s Wing Organizer underscored the urgent need and the reason why government must adhere to their advocacy of waivering all taxes on sanitary pads.
This, according to her, would not only lower the prices of the pads on the market but, encourage more girls to use hygienic sanitary pads to improve their well-being and enhance their confidence as well.
Madam Buxton noted that this particular activity started last year and normally was done in August to coincide with SA Women’s Month. “But, because this year is an election year, we’ve decided to run the project across the entire country. We’ve been to Oti Region and this is the second region we’re visiting”, she stated.
Dovetailing into politics and justaxposing the cost of sanitary pads to the economy, she emphasised that the era where rags and other unhygienic materials were used by girls during their menses were over. But, the current bad governance by the NPP has made it difficult for girls to procure pads hence, their decision to step in with the project to help.
She paid glowing tribute to Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, NDC SA Council of Elders Chair, for being the main sponsor of the sanitary pad project.
In the company of Madam Buxton were Mr. Benjamin Quashie, Gloria Huze, Ashanti Region Women Organiser and her deputy, Ibrahim Adams, Effiduasi Asokore Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Efiduase Asokore Constituency Women Organiser and the Constituency Executives.
The others were Stephen Atuahene, Ayensuano Constituency Vice Chairman and some of Ablekuma West Constituency Women’s Wing Executives.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expanded its
WhatsApp service to those who speak Arabic, French and Spanish.

Accor Signs 24-Pool Villa Resort in Phuket, Thailand
Accor has signed a 24-pool villa resort in Phuket,
Thailand.
The V Villas Phuket - MGallery is being developed
on a hilltop near Ao Yon Beach, approximately 1 hour by road from
Phuket International Airport and 20 minutes from Phuket Town.
The resort, scheduled to open in H2 2020, will feature five
F&B outlets, a swimming pool and a spa
& wellness centre.
Khun Vichaya Poolvaraluk, owner of
V Villas Phuket - MGallery, said, “V Villas Phuket is destined to be an
unforgettable destination with its privileged location high up on
the hills overlooking the Ao Yon Bay in southern Phuket. The hotel
also provides direct access to one of the area’s last hidden and
beautiful secluded beaches. Like its sister property in Hua Hin,
it will offer an unparalleled level of service and privacy
including dedicated butler service. One standout feature will be
the hotel’s dining concept with a restaurant and outdoor deck
facing the azure blue water and a roof top bar offering a
360 degree view 50 meters above sea level for what promises to be
a stunning sunset spot.”
Accor currently operates 89 hotels in Thailand and
has a pipeline of 10 hotels scheduled to open
over the next five years. The group currently manages a portfolio
of 36 hotels under the MGallery Hotel Collection across the Asia
Pacific region.

Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airports Increase COVID19 Surveillance
Airports of Thailand (AOT) has increased the
COVID19 surveillance, prevention and control measures at Don Mueang Airport
(DMK) in Bangkok, after similar measures were recently implemented at
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
The enhanced measures at Don Mueang Airport include
extra screening points with handheld thermometers at:
- Immigration’s passport control, International
Departures, Level 3, International Passenger Terminal 1;
- Security screening, Domestic Departures, Level
3, Domestic Passenger Terminal 2; and
- Entry screening, Domestic Arrivals, Level 1,
Domestic Passenger Terminal 2.
The extra screening points are in addition to the
entry screening points at the International Arrivals, Level 1,
International Passenger Terminal 1.
At the larger Suvarnabhumi International Airport,
the enhanced measures include:
- Five entry screening points with thermal scans and
handheld thermometers: two at the Arrival Concourse D and three at
passport control;
- Four departure screening points with thermal scans
and handheld thermometers: one at security screening,
International Departures Zone 3, one at passport control, Fast
Track Lane, International Departures Zone 3, another at passport
control, Fast Track Lane, International Departures Zone 2 and one
at passport control, International Departures Zone 1;
- Extra entry screening of travellers from the
Disease Infected Zones; and
- Assigned parking bays adjacent to Concourses C,
E, F and G for separate entry screening upon arrival.
Travellers with a body temperature of 37.5 degrees
Celsius or higher and/or have respiratory symptoms (cough, runny
nose, sore throat or shortness of breath) with a history of travel
to the known COVID19 areas will most likely be isolated and transferred to
a designated hospital for quarantine or treatment.
Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Emergency Operation Centre
is located at the CIP 5 Room, Level 3, Passenger Terminal. It has
a 24/7 hotline number: +66 (0) 2132 9950 (international rates will
apply if calling outside of Thailand).
Due to the extra screening, travellers are advised
to arrive at Don Mueang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport at least three hours before their
scheduled departure time. Travellers should also be aware that the
screening of passengers can take time and they may need to queue
before they can get to passport control.

Heathrow Introduces New Charges for Night Time Flights
In a bid to crack down on the number of flights
disrupting the communities closest to London Heathrow, airlines
that operate unscheduled flights within the Night Quota Period
from 23:30 to 06:00 will face a bill five times greater than
daytime charges.
The move is in response to community feedback on
ways to improve noise impacts and complement Heathrow’s wider
noise action plan and follows Heathrow’s latest Fly Quiet and
Green league table which saw SAS take the top spot following their
efforts to improve operational performance and invest in greener
and quieter A320neos.
The next generation aircraft make up seven
per cent of flights from Heathrow and are used by eight of the
airlines based at the airport including British Airways, SAS,
Lufthansa, Air Malta, Iberia and TAP, who all feature in the top
20 of this quarter’s ‘Fly Quiet and Green’ league table.
The table was
introduced in 2013 in an attempt to encourage cleaner and quieter fleets at
Heathrow.
Heathrow Community & Stakeholder Engagement
Director, Rob Gray, said, “It is really important that we work
with our local communities and airlines to strictly manage
aircraft noise at Heathrow. We continue to take vital steps to
improve matters, including our new noise charges on all flights
that arrive or depart the airport during the night. Since the
1970s, despite a doubling of the number of flights, the population
significantly affected by aircraft noise around Heathrow has
reduced by around 90%. We believe the number of people impacted by
aircraft noise will continue to reduce as we work towards a
quieter, better future for Heathrow through the use of noise
envelopes and our Noise Action Plan.”

Montara Hospitality Unveils Details of Tri Vananda Wellness Project in Phuket
Thailand's Montara Hospitality Group has unveiled
plans to develop a comprehensive health and wellness residential
community in Phuket, Thailand.
Scheduled for completion in 2022, Montara is
investing over THB 6,600 million (USD 220 million) in the
development of Tri Vananda, which they say will be one of Asia’s largest and most
comprehensive wellness residential communities.
Tri Vananda will feature 298 villas, anchored by a
wellness resort specializing in integrative and functional
medicine and cognitive wellbeing, in a sprawling hillside setting
dotted with lakes and gardens 20 minutes from Phuket International
Airport.
Tri Vananda's health center
will offer consultation rooms, physiotherapy and TCM treatment
rooms, a cognitive health center, and facilities for health
diagnostics aimed at treating residents and guests with tailored
programs.
A mindfulness center on the lake will have an indoor
hall and outdoor areas for meditation.
Also situated on the lake
will be a spa with thermal rooms, relaxation areas, a hammam, private spa suites, and a fitness center with a
50-meter swimming pool, gym, sauna, juice bar and lake pier for
recreational water sports.
Finally, a dedicated club designed for
children will help to foster a wellness-led lifestyle for
younger community members.
Two and three-bedroom solar-powered residential
villas ranging in size from 270 square meters to 750 square meters
have been designed by Habita Architects, renowned for their
nature-focused work, together with Arsom Silp Institute of the
Arts. The teams in both firms are led by National Artists and
UNESCO-recognised architects.
Interior design will be helmed by
the award-winning P49 Deesign.
“With the future in mind, Tri Vananda will be a
multigenerational community rooted in a way of life based on the
principles of wellness, sustainability and hospitality. Here, our

Ansat Helicopters Approved to Carry Neonatal Medical Module
Kazan Helicopters has received permission from Rosaviatsiya
(the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency) to equip Ansat
helicopters with a special module for transporting neonatal
patients.
The equipment can be used to provide evacuation and
airborne medical care to infants.
The new module was developed together with the
Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (part of Shvabe holding company)
specifically for neonatal air transport.
The manufacturer of the
Ansat medical module, Kazan Aggregate Plant, developed a special
platform for the incubator to replace the more traditional
stretcher design.
"The capability to install a neonatal medical
module for Ansat had been in demand for a long time. Thanks to
cooperation of Rostec holding companies and other partners, the
helicopter now comes with upgraded equipment, allowing medical
teams to continuously monitor the condition of a child, maintain
the vital body functions and conduct intensive therapy during the
flight," said Managing Director of Kazan Helicopters Yuri
Pustovgarov.
The incubator comes with a set of medical
equipment, including an artificial lung ventilator, a monitoring
unit, an aspirator, and an infusion pump. The neonatal module can
be installed optionally on all Ansats equipped with base medical
modules. No redesign of the helicopter interior is
required.

Qatar Airways Offers FFP Tier Status Extension
With fewer and fewer people travelling because of
the COVID19 outbreak, retaining that all important status with
your favourite airline is becoming increasingly difficult.
Qatar Airways’ loyalty programme, Privilege Club,
has decided to address this by offering members the opportunity to extend or reclaim their
tier status for memberships due to end before 31 January 2021.
Members will be able to retain their current
tier benefits such as upgrades, Shop & Pay with Qmiles, extra
baggage, lounge access, and more, for up to six months, with
personalised offers. Members can view their personalised offer at
qmiles.com and must login and register to claim it by 24 March
2020.
Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Simon
Talling-Smith, said, “As a result of the current situation
regarding coronavirus, which has led to travel restrictions and
flight reductions worldwide, many of our Privilege Club members
have not travelled as frequently as they usually would. Such restrictions are outside of our control as
an airline, but we do not want our members to lose their
hard-earned membership tier status as a result. That is why we are honouring the loyalty our members have shown us by offering to
extend their tier membership and retain their current benefits.
Offers will be personalised to each member to ensure that they
receive the benefit options most relevant to them. While we understand that some members may need or
wish to change their travel plans, we want to assure them that
when they do travel with Qatar Airways, they can travel with
confidence. Our fleet is one of the cleanest in the skies, and we
have introduced new policies to provide all customers with maximum
flexibility to suit their travel plans.”
Qatar Airways recently launched a new commercial
policy to allow all passengers that have booked or will book
flights to travel up to 30 June 2020 the flexibility to change
their travel plans free of charge by altering the dates of their
booking or exchanging their ticket for a travel voucher valid for
one year, up to three days prior to departure. This policy
includes award flights.
