8% increase of the boat licence fee largely blamed on the inflation hitting hard the whole of UK with a corresponding 8% increase of the high paid crt employees salary.
A lucky coincidence? For some?

On the topic of canal and river trust having their legal officer (Mr Deards) seating on the waterways ombudsman committee... which raises some eyebrows about crt's powers and levels of integrity.

Unpublished
Unpublished cartoon for the NBTA London branch. It would make for a nice T-shirt print.
At the time, the canal and river trust (inland water authorities) claimed that they had to take away moorings from continuous cruising (itinerant) boaters due to safety reasons. A local reputed rowing club strongly supported this decision.
The CRT claimed to have consulted the itinerant boaters but Ignored their inputs and basic needs, going ahead with their plans.
A senior member of the rowing club decided to walk up to safety infrastructure (that allegedly been used for mooring by an itinerant boater) and proceed to cut it off with a portable angle grinder (with no regard for public passing by safety or his own as he wore no ppe (personal protective equipment) at all.
The public including boaters reported the incident to the CRT since it was criminal damage onto water public safety infrastructure but the CRT reaction was very slow, mild and understanding toward the senior rowing club member. Nothing like the legal action and consequences that would be applied to boaters mooring in a newly branded "safety zones" mooring spots.
The #nbtaLondon campaign carries on since.

Two more cartoons for the NBTA London branch in support of the campaign against the CRT "No Mooring Zones".
The boating community and particularly the liveaboard community has been under attack a number times in the past decades but they always fought back.
