Grace is a mixed terrier and Carlyle is a USM student in her senior year living in the dorms with Grace a Service Dog for Carlyle to help her with her anxiety attacks being far from Maine and friends/family.

Weather Forecast for 8/31-9/1/2018 for Hattiesburg, MS

On the synoptic scale, there’s hardly anything happening. The 300 mb level is ridged over and the geopotential heights are linear. The jet stream resides on the Canadian border for the next couple of days. Both the European and GFS models for 500 mb show geopotential heights moving in the northeastern direction way above the southeastern region. By Saturday, the ridge at 500 mb begins to grow as the heights move more southward. The 700 mb level has the same story with a ridge creeping from the Atlantic Ocean.

At the 850 mb level, the GFS shows stronger winds running from the southwest in the Great Plains, but the ridge that resides over the Eastern United States is blocking anything from making its way into our neck of the woods. The 925 mb level shows a very similar picture only with a more southerly flow, but the ridge is still ever present and most people in the southeastern region will have a wind above them coming from the southeast or south bringing in the Gulf moisture. On Friday morning, there’s already some coastal thunderstorms firing off judging by the satellite imagery.

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are the main story in Mississippi throughout your Friday. Saturday is game day, and it’s still going to be hot and muggy outside! For the Hattiesburg area, there will be the normal cumulus clouds developing throughout the morning into the afternoon. The high will be in the low 90s and a few isolated and scattered thunderstorms can’t be ruled out. I would bring an umbrella to the Rock just in case, but otherwise we will see partly cloudy skies throughout the afternoon into the evening. Overall, game day is looking like a normal Southern Summer day.

The big news is the new tropical invest that is near Cape Verde. Potential Tropical Cyclone Six has developed off the coast of Africa and is starting to become somewhat organized gaining a cyclonic spin as it has moved across the Atlantic Ocean. The invest is highly expected to become a tropical storm, but winds are still under 39 miles per hour as of 11 AM AST on Friday, August 31. So far, we’ve had great luck with tropical systems dying out because of the shear over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. However, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on this system as it moves through the Atlantic because conditions have become more favorable for tropical cyclone development. So far, the National Hurricane Center track is predicting Six to make a West Northwest to Northwestern movement in the next five days, but could move up towards the North Atlantic by Wednesday. This news is not meant to scare anyone, but to make someone alert about what could be possible within the next couple of weeks.
