Not my best pic, and badly need a haircut...but I got to share some ideas on ABC 7 here in LA today about how folks can deal with a shelter-in-place economy. Actually, they only used 15 seconds of the whole 15 minute interview (below)...but being on the cutting room floor is something you get used to in Hollywood. 😂 #careerguy #coronacareerguidance #newworkmodels Here's what I had to offer: For folks stuck at home, not working, and worried about what comes next 1. Keep (or implement) a Working Structure --You had a job, and you had breaks and off time: KEEP THAT or re-implement that as it keeps you sane and keeps you productive (vs endless Netflix or Facebook). There IS something you can be doing to move yourself forward, even if from home, such as... * Getting Tech-savvy if you're not already. Learning how to connect with folks and information better online. Zoom, LinkedIn, online learning, etc. * Educating yourself online. Linda.com, Udemy.com, and many other learning platforms out there, some with very cheap courses, even for free. YouTube videos to learn about nearly anything * Researching and exploring the things you've always wanted to know more about for possible careers. Study and learn more, now that you have the time. * Reaching out and making connections, both with folks you've known in the past in your field of work as well as new folks you'd like to be known by in the fields you want to go into. You want to be top-of-mind when things start to shift back, and people are more available now for conversations than they used to be * Revamp your resume, get help exploring other options for what you want to do, grow your network of relationships --Set up a dedicated workspace in your home, where you go during your work periods. Eliminate distractions. If you're home-schooling, get them set up on assignments and then go get your work done. Train your kids to not interrupt you, let them know how important your focus is. --If it helps your mindset, dress like you're going to work. Anything that helps you maintain a mental state of WORKING from home vs SHELTERING from home will help. 2. Keep (or implement) a Home/Relax/Off-time Structure -- You had a life, and you had a focus on family and recreation: KEEP THAT or re-implement that as it keeps you sane. *Try to keep to your same former schedule of work and off-time/play. Like our circadian rhythm in sleep, it will keep you balanced. *Get together with family and friends in virtual happy hours, brunch, or even watch movies simultaneously through Netflix *Socially-distanced walks or runs are still allowed *Get some weights and do online workouts *Regular eating schedule, and avoid stress eating *Extra supplements, including Vitamin C and Zinc overloads *GET SLEEP: the emotional toll of all of this creates and even greater need for rest, and you must stay strong and keep your body in top health to ensure you come through this well. https://ift.tt/2RpkW5h

Ashkan Rajaee doesn’t glamorize remote work. He explains what it actually takes to succeed in it from mindset to systems. It’s not easier. It’s just smarter.
