So I had my dad talking to me about cars today, telling me how I should basically avoid getting any cars except those made by Japanese companies because of how shitty other countries manufacture their cars (mileage and life span)
Do you have any thoughts on this? I don’t know much about cars and I thought of this blog while I was having this conversation so that’s why I send here
Do I have thoughts on this. Do I have thoughts on this. Babygirl (gender neutral) I have thoughts on aspects of cars you wouldn't even conceive of. I have thoughts on aspects of cars that aren't even real. Up the ante, folks! Ask me which cars are most bisexual!
That aside, for my opinion: Italian food is good. But of course, when I eat out in Italy, I don't go to any random place because "this country does this well", because I'm not ordering from a country, or a region, or a city, but from a specific joint - and some of them suck, some dropped or rose in quality, some are exceptionally good/bad with certain things, hell, some serve foreign food and then what's the adage matter now! That's why Yelp doesn't have country reviews.
Much the same, Japanese cars are usually pretty reliable, but Nissan spent the last two decades making a case against that claim (especially with their CVT transmission, a known ticking time bomb they've done fuck all about for years) with the help of whatever's left of the shell of Mitsubishi, and Infiniti is just the luxury brand of Nissan so ditto for it... indeed, another point to make, some cars are just based on, or outright are, cars from other brands. Infinitis are built by Nissan, and usually based on the equivalent Nissans. Except the QX30, which is just a Mercedes GLA - which probably was part of the same deal through which Mercedes got to sell the Nissan Navara as the X Class.
And there's a lot of cross-nationality brand partnerships like that, past and present, like the four-decade-long Mazda/Ford one, or the time Saturn had such a crappy engine they had to get Honda to give them a proper one. And by the way, the guy who posted that? He owns a different Saturn which took 360k miles of bare minimum care like a champ, because reliability can vary wildly within a lineup, and also a Volkswagen that's been a thorn in his side, which definitely wasn't the experience I had with mine, because mine is over twice as old, and a brand can completely change over time too! (You'd think they were run by people or something.)
In fact, reliability changing over time and models is the norm - not as drastically as, say, "older German cars were unstoppable tanks and now they're overly fit-prone electronics messes where everything is costly to buy and dastardly to replace" (which, however, is actually a notable trend), but usually in terms of "in this model, through these production years, this component was overly keen on failing" (as per my Accord post). Part of how Toyota (and by extension its luxury brand Lexus) rightfully earned its reputation of King Reliability is such cases in their production being especially few and far between, and none notable enough to become an automotive meme like Subaru head gasket failures (and no, the Camry dent doesn't count). So, say, Hondas may not be less reliable, just a bit less consistently so (but even there, Honda interiors tend to hold up much better than Toyotas', yadda yadda yay for nuance).
So if you are buying a used car (as you should) it's always important to research for potential common problems (for instance, pre-90s Toyota frames are to rust what the letter X is to Elon Musk) and thoroughly inspect the car, to check that nothing is broken and that it's been properly serviced.
That last part is very important, because reliability is not a tickbox, it's a spectrum, and a function of how a car was built and how it was maintained. Carelessness will kill any car sooner or later. Every car has fluids that will at some point need changing, wear items that will at some point need replacing, and the occasional part failure. Even yours. So even when it comes to your car, keep up with that stuff, or it will eventually catch up to you. (And if regular services would tax your finances, look into how to perform them yourself - you'll find it's a lot easier than you thought, you'll give it a shot and it will be very rewarding and save you a lot of money!)
And also, if a hinge starts squeaking, if something starts sagging, if some trim breaks, if you get a dent or scratch, take care of those too. Not because they make your car work less or worth less, but because they foster an indifference that snowballs into neglect. Working on those little things will keep you feeling like your car is nice and your loving effort is going to keep it nice, dammit - in much the same way as it's important to take care of yourself and your environment for your mental health, to keep yourself feeling like you are making it and with your loving effort you are going to keep making it, dammit.
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!
#i am genuinely so sorry for how long it took me to get to ya#i just spent ages perfecting this#writing and looking into a lot of things I ended up trimming and such#hope you like it!#japanese cars#maintenance#infiniti qx30#mercedes cla#nissan navara#mercedes x class#toyota#lexus

Is Your Nissan Navara’s DPF Clogged? Signs and Solutions
If you own a Nissan Navara, you probably value its strength, ruggedness, and versatility, whether cruising down the highway or ripping up off-road courses. But as with any diesel vehicle, your Navara includes a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) — an important feature which helps keep pollutants out of the air by trapping soot and other particulate emissions from the exhaust gases. But with time, the DPF gets clogged, resulting in a variety of performance problems and expensive repairs if not dealt with immediately.
Knowing the indications of a blocked DPF and how to fix it is critical for all Nissan Navara owners. In this blog, we will discuss the signs of a blocked DPF, why it occurs, and the most effective solutions to keep your car in top shape.
What is a DPF, and Why Does It Matter?
A Diesel Particulate Filter or DPF is a vital part of your Nissan Navara's exhaust system and its meant to trap and accumulate toxic soot particles that are produced during combustion. The basic function of the DPF is to minimize the emission of toxic pollutants, hence making your car more eco-friendly and compliant with emissions.
Non. The DPF is not a maintenance-free unit. Soot builds up in the filter over time, and if not cleaned or regenerated, the DPF will get clogged. This can do some harm to your car's performance and even damage your engine if neglected.
Common Signs of a Clogged DPF in Your Nissan Navara
Identifying the signs of a clogged DPF in its early stages will save you from making expensive repairs and ensure your Nissan Navara maintains a good performance. These are the most prevalent signs to look out for:
Dashboard Warning Light: The first and most noticeable indication of a DPF issue is the illumination of the DPF warning light on your dashboard. It tells you that the filter is clogged and requires regeneration or cleaning.
Lower Engine Performance: A blocked DPF causes exhaust flow to be restricted, which makes your engine lose power. You might experience slow acceleration or poor responsiveness.
Higher Fuel Consumption: If the DPF is blocked, your engine can consume more fuel to keep up with performance, resulting in a significant decrease in fuel efficiency.
Unusual Odors from the Exhaust: A clogged DPF may result in a pungent, unusual smell coming from the exhaust, usually a result of an excessive amount of unburned fuel.
Constant Regeneration Cycles: When your Navara is repeatedly trying to regenerate the DPF but fails to do so, it is a definite sign that the filter is heavily clogged.
Why Does Your Nissan Navara’s DPF Get Clogged?
There are a number of reasons why your DPF can clog more quickly than anticipated:
Short Journeys: If you predominantly travel short journeys, your DPF might not get enough opportunity to build up to the temperatures required for automatic regeneration, so soot accumulates.
Low Quality Fuel: Low-quality fuel might produce a greater amount of soot, which can easily clog up the DPF.
Driving Pattern: Regularly low-speed driving or prolonged idling can make it impossible for the DPF to get the temperatures essential for self-cleaning.
Mechanical Problems: Malfunctions of the fuel injectors, turbocharger, or EGR system may result in excessive soot generation, which could overwhelm the DPF.
How to Clean and Maintain Your DPF
If you suspect your Nissan Navara's DPF is blocked, there are a few methods to correct the problem:
Regeneration: The majority of DPFs will automatically regenerate by burning off the soot that has built up. This may occur passively when driving at high speeds, or actively when the engine modulates fuel injection to increase exhaust temperatures.
Forced Regeneration: If automatic regeneration is not possible, a mechanic can carry out a forced regeneration using dedicated diagnostic tools.
Manual Cleaning: In worst-case situations, the DPF can be taken out and cleaned with chemical cleaners or high-pressure air.
DPF Replacement: If the DPF is so damaged or plugged that it cannot be repaired, it may need to be replaced.
Preventing DPF Clogs: Best Practices
To prevent DPF problems with your Nissan Navara, implement the following precautionary measures:
Drive Regularly at Highway Speeds: Driving longer distances at high speeds allows the DPF to achieve high temperatures required for passive regeneration.
Fill Up with High-Quality Diesel Fuel: Using high-grade diesel fuel gives less soot, lowering the chances of clogging the DPF.
Pay Attention to Warning Lights: Do not dismiss the DPF warning light on your dashboard. Promptly fixing the problem can help avoid expensive repairs.
Schedule Periodic Maintenance: Get your exhaust system checked periodically by a mechanic to verify it is working efficiently.

Understanding the common issues related to Nissan electrical parts can help you troubleshoot effectively and keep your vehicle running smoothly. At Nissan Spares Scrap Yard, we specialize in providing quality Nissan parts, ensuring you have access to the right components for repairs.
Common Electrical Issues
Dead BatteryA dead battery is a frequent problem that can affect any vehicle. Signs include dimming headlights and difficulty starting the engine. If your Nissan experiences these symptoms, check the battery connections and consider testing the battery’s charge. If it’s not holding a charge, it may be time for a replacement.
Faulty AlternatorThe alternator is responsible for charging the battery and powering the electrical system while the engine runs. Symptoms of a failing alternator include flickering dashboard lights and a battery warning light. If you suspect alternator issues, inspect the wiring and connections for any visible damage.
Blown FusesElectrical systems are equipped with fuses to protect components from overloads. If you notice that certain electrical parts, like headlights or power windows, are not functioning, it’s worth checking the fuses. A simple replacement can often solve the issue.
Malfunctioning Starter MotorIf your Nissan won’t start but the battery is fine, the starter motor could be the culprit. Symptoms include clicking sounds when turning the key and no engine response. Testing the starter motor with a multimeter can help determine if it’s functioning properly.
Troubleshooting Steps
Visual InspectionStart with a visual inspection of all electrical components, including wiring, connectors, and fuses. Look for signs of wear, corrosion, or disconnection.
Use Diagnostic ToolsEmploying diagnostic tools such as a multimeter can help identify issues in the electrical system. Checking voltage levels can pinpoint where the problem lies.
Consult the ManualAlways refer to your vehicle’s manual for specific information related to your Nissan’s electrical systems. It can provide valuable insights into the location of electrical components and troubleshooting tips.
Replace Defective PartsIf you identify any faulty Nissan electrical parts during troubleshooting, sourcing genuine or quality aftermarket parts is essential. At Nissan Spares Scrap Yard, we offer a wide range of Nissan electrical components to ensure you find the right replacement.

Rear disc brakes in development for new Mitsubishi Triton
Rear disc brakes in development for new Mitsubishi Triton
The just-revealed 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is poised to introduce rear disc brakes – but the upgrade will need to wait for an updated model due in a few years from now.Get more news about Disc Brake Production, you can vist our website!
Despite a larger body said to be five to 10 per cent heavier than before, an all-new frame and a more powerful engine, the Mitsubishi Triton has not made the leap to rear disc brakes, and retains old-school drum brakes at the rear.
Most versions of the new Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok, all GWM Ute and LDV T60 pick-ups from China, and all SsangYong Mussos from South Korea now offer rear discs – but the Toyota HiLux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max and Mazda BT-50 retain rear drum brakes on nearly all models as they are cheaper and still reasonably effective. Chief product specialist for the new Mitsubishi Triton, Yoshiki Masuda, told Australian media an upgrade to rear disc brakes is planned for Mitsubishi's new ute alongside more advanced safety features.
“At this moment the rear is a drum, but in order to be compatible with some more ADAS [advanced safety] and auto parking [features], we want to have a rear [disc] brake – and for performance as well," the executive said. A 'minor model change' – also known as a 'facelift' or 'mid-life update' – is industry speak for a major update for the current generation of a vehicle approximately in the middle of its planned life cycle.
Based on the nine-year life cycle of the outgoing Mitsubishi Triton, an upgrade to rear disc brakes may not arrive until 2027 or 2028.
When asked to clarify if rear disc brakes are in the plan for a future model update, Masuda-san said "definitely".
The executive said this model upgrade could also see the introduction of a widescreen 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – to match the Ford Ranger and VW Amarok – replacing the current 7.0-inch screen and two analogue dials.

Car Engines and Their Main Parts: A Guide to Car Parts and Wreckers in Australia

The engine is the heart of any car. It is responsible for converting fuel into energy to power the car. A car engine main parts is made up of many different parts, each with its own unique role. Understanding the main parts of a car engine is essential for any car owner, especially when it comes to replacing or repairing car parts.
When it comes to car parts, there are many options available in Australia. One popular choice for car owners is Hyundai parts Adelaide. Hyundai is a well-known brand that offers high-quality car parts at an affordable price. Whether you need parts for your engine or other car components, you can find what you need at a Hyundai dealership or authorized dealer.
Another option for car parts in Australia is visiting car wreckers. These companies specialize in salvaging and recycling car parts from damaged or written-off vehicles. Nissan Navara wreckers are a popular choice for those in need of Nissan Navara parts, while Suzuki wreckers Brisbane can help you find parts for your Suzuki vehicle. Nissan wreckers Melbourne and Mitsubishi wreckers Melbourne are also great options for those living in Victoria.
Now, let's take a closer look at the main parts of a car engine. The engine block is the foundation of the engine and houses many of its key components. The cylinders are where the fuel is burned and converted into energy, while the pistons move up and down to transfer that energy to the crankshaft. The crankshaft, in turn, converts that energy into rotational motion that powers the car.
Other important parts of a car engine include the camshaft, which controls the opening and closing of the engine valves, the cylinder head, which houses the valves and combustion chamber, and the timing belt, which synchronizes the movement of the camshaft and crankshaft.
When it comes to maintaining your car engine, it's important to keep these main parts in good working order. Regular oil changes and tune-ups can help ensure that your engine is running smoothly and efficiently. If you do need to replace any auto parts, make sure to choose high-quality, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts to ensure the best performance and longevity.

BLACK FRIDAY DATSUN The Datsun Truck is a compact pickup truck made by Nissan in Japan from 1955 through 1997. It was originally sold under the Datsun brand, but this was switched to Nissan in 1983. It was replaced in 1997 by the Frontier and Navara. In Japan, it was sold only in Nissan Bluebird Store locations. It was a regular cab truck (a longer "King Cab" [Nissan's trademark for their extended cab trucks] version was released in 1977) and two wheelbases were offered, for a total of six different models. There was also a delivery van version, offered only in Japan. Naturally there were bare chassis models, and many importers installed locally made flat decks. There was also the U620, which is a crew cab "Utility" version. It uses a shorter, fully integrated bed to allow comfortably seating four people. The U620 was essentially a 620 pickup from the doors forward, with the bed and rear end being the only difference. Nissan continued the strong rhythms and styling of its previous vehicles, with a shoulder "wing line" or "Bullet Side" accent running alongside the vehicle. In most of the world the 620 was equipped with the J15, producing 57 kW (77 hp; 78 PS) and a claimed top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph).[19] A 2.2 liter diesel engine with 49 kW (66 hp; 67 PS) was later made available in many markets.[citation needed] #castheads #castheadsmagazines #datsun #diecastgram #blackfriday #diecastphotographer #hotwheelscollector #hotwheels #hotwheelsphotography #jdmlife #jdmdaily #fcc_turkeytime #raw_toys #fcmc_captainlego #myts_sailorsenshi #toypic_community (di Lokasi Proyek Jl.KH Mansur Tembokrejo Pasuruan) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClYDdPYJPIB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The entry models are simple and utilitarian, but there are also high-spec variants that, like many other pick-up trucks on the market in the UK, can easily function as a family car as well as work transportation. The Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and SsangYong Musso are all competitors for the Isuzu D-Max, but the selection of pick-ups has reduced in recent years, so it's an exciting moment for Isuzu to unveil this new model. This Mk3 model debuted in 2021, with a significantly more modern appearance than its predecessor, as well as enough equipment and tempting affordable costs.
The "double-fang" grille, which looks very intimidating from the front and is colored differently depending on whatever trim level you pick, is one of the first things you notice when looking at 2017 used Isuzu d'max Melbourne. The Utility model, which comes in single cab, extended cab, and double cab body types, is the starting point. The DL20 comes in extended and double cab versions, whereas the DL40 and V-Cross are only available in double cab.
Although it's a new model, it retains the conventional body-on-frame chassis, although it's lighter and more rigid than before. Switchable four-wheel drive, like previously, allows you to choose between rear-wheel drive or high and low-range 4WD, as well as a standard rear differential lock. This means it performs as well off-road as you'd expect. The inside has been overhauled for this model, and the top-spec model now comes with a huge nine-inch touchscreen, dual-zone temperature control, and leather seats. It's a nice cottage, and it's more upscale than previously.
When compared to its predecessor, the D-Max is a significant improvement. It comes with more features, is more appealing to the eye, is a more competent work vehicle, and is also the safest truck in the class. When it comes to the way it drives, though, there is still work to be done. The engine is rather loud, and the suspension is still geared toward weight carrying and off-road performance rather than passenger refinement, despite the improved cruising comfort. Although it's a little competitor in the UK pick-up market, the Isuzu D-Max might have a big year in 2021. With rivals like the Mercedes X-Class and Fiat Fullback already gone, the Mitsubishi L200 on its way out, and doubts about the Nissan Navara's future in the UK, the timing is ideal for the all-new Isuzu d-max for sale in Melbourne to cash in on what has become a seller's market. There are work-focused varieties of the new model, as before, but the top-spec versions come with extra features to help them appeal to lifestyle purchasers — a sector that Isuzu is trying to break into now that so many rivals have left.
The V-Cross, which we're driving today, is at the top of the D-Max tree. It's designed to compete with high-spec rivals like the Toyota Hilux Invincible and Ford Ranger Wildtrak, so it comes with all of the same features as the DL40, plus a larger nine-inch color touchscreen, an eight-speaker stereo, rear air vents, and gunmetal-grey exterior detailing to replace the DL40's chrome for a more stylish appearance.

Need An Affordable New Bakkie? This R200 000 Bakkie Is A Great Option
The local bakkie market is rife with options. Automakers have an array of bakkies making up their portfolios, and each model range brings something unique to the table. Nissan, for instance, has three bakkies to choose from - NP200, NP300/Hardbody, Navara).
Of course, higher up the price spectrum, the options are more refined, more specialized, and with more powerful engines. Lower down, however, the offerings are more affordable, but at a cost. The Nissan NP200 is one of the most budget-friendly bakkies in South Africa.
Nissan NP200 1.6i Safety Pack
Remember the Nissan Champ of old? Well, the NP200 is the legendary bakkie's successor. This model in question kickstarts the line-up, but it foregoes several of the niceties we've come to expect, like a media player, a 12V power socket, and an aircon. Unlike the other two bakkies in this company, the entry-level NP200 has two airbags. Load volume capacity on the NP200 is a useful 1 250L.
Power for this bakkie is derived from a 1.6-litre 8V petrol engine. The mill offers 64kW and 128Nm. Unlike the other two bakkies that are rear-wheel driven, the NP200 sends its power to the front wheels.
The bakkie comes standard with a six-year or 150 000km warranty. There is no service plan available.
The maintenance costs
Every year, the Kinsey Report is released detailing the price basket for all the popular vehicles in South Africa. This includes the average maintenance costs for your favourite bakkie, be it a single or double cab. The Kinsey Report has been a telling indicator of the local automotive space for the last 30 years and is crucial for consumers.
Unfortunately, the Kinsey Report can't focus on every vehicle sold in South Africa; therefore, they focus on the more popular models, and owners and prospective buyers can use the information to guide them in their next buy.
Click here for the full 2020 Kinsey Report.
In 2020, the Nissan NP200 price basket is a total of R45 529.48 to replace all the major items if everything went awry. These include the oil filter (R245.81), front brake pads (R1 012.15), rear shock absorber (R2 365.49), bonnet (R4 320.96), radiator (R2 764.55), and tailgate (R3 908.65).

Used Mitsubishi Triton Reviewed
Mitsubishi has launched its new-look Triton double cab in South Africa. We attended the newcomer's local media launch event in Magaliesberg, Gauteng to find out if it's as rugged and dependable as before...
The Mitsubishi Triton for sale is a puzzling bakkie. We don't mean any disrespect, of course. Not only does the Triton represent a solid value-for-money proposition, it's also supremely capable and tough as nails. And yet, it doesn't it sell in great numbers. Its Hilux and Ranger rivals are wildly popular, but the understated (let alone underrated) Triton has failed to garner even a notable fraction of the Toyota and Ford's sales figures.
What has changed?
However, Mitsubishi has high hopes that its facelifted Triton can steal a few sales from its rivals – it comes to market with loads of standard features and an aggressive pricing strategy. While it appears that the Triton has just received a new exterior appearance, the changes are far deeper than a handsome reskinned front-end. While the engine has been carried over from the outgoing model, the 5-speed automatic transmission has been replaced by a new 6-speed unit and the Japanese firm claims the latter's extra ratio improves fuel economy and on-road refinement.
What's more, there are enlarged front brake discs and calliper pistons, while the rear dampers have increased in size and contain more damping fluid for improved ride quality. There are revisions to the Super Select 4WD system and some offroad modes are available for the flagship automatic 4x4 version. Off-road, the 2019 Mitsubishi Triton is just as capable as before and features 220 mm worth of ground clearance, a 28º approach angle, 23º departure angle and 25º ramp break-over angle. For those who want to tow trailers, the Triton has a tow rating of 3 100 kg (braked).
Inside, the cabin has some minor changes, but the important one is the addition of an updated (now thoroughly modern) infotainment system. We've recently experienced this system in the brand's crossover-flavoured family car offering – the Eclipse Cross – and came away impressed with it. The unit features a simple layout, but boasts impressive features such as navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility and Bluetooth.
What's it like to drive?
Previously, the Triton was a pleasure to drive on the open road and offered impressive levels of refinement. However, during the evaluation drive of the new Mitsubishi, we didn't find the going quite as smooth... The bakkie tended to bounce and jiggle a bit, but we believe that was probably due to the poor quality of the roads in and around the launch venue. Remember, it's still a body-on-chassis vehicle with rear leaf springs (plus it's set up to be a workhorse), so you can't expect a ride quality akin to that of the recently-launched Eclipse Cross. The new auto transmission is smooth and refined, and best left to its own devices. You could use manual override and 'shift paddles, but these should only be used when you're off-roading.
Speaking of off-roading, the launch activities included some mild-to-medium 4x4 testing. The hill descent control was called into play a few times and it performed ably (you could, of course, replicate it by forcing the vehicle to stay in 1st gear using the aforementioned shift paddles and selecting low-range on the transfer case). The ground clearance of 220 mm is sufficient to see harmful obstacles (such as rocks) pass under the body safely, while the approach and departure angles are on par with other offerings in the segment. If the going gets really tough, a rear diff lock is available.
The steering in the Triton is well worth a mention too. Not only is the 'wheel pleasant to wield, but the small turning circle of 5.9 metres makes the bakkie quite nimble/easy to place. This is useful for those who need to manoeuvre their bakkies in the tight confines of a city. Plus the Triton's body doesn't seem to roll as much as its rivals... If ever there was a bakkie worthy of being described as "passenger car-like to drive", it'd be this.
Furthermore, the turbodiesel engine has been a strong point in the Triton. There's a useful amount of torque right from the get-go, making it easy to light up the rear wheels on wet roads or gravel, but you can easily dial that out by rotating the drive select into 4-High. You can even shift from 2- to 4-wheel drive on the fly (at speeds of up to 100 kph). You'll have to come to a complete stop to activate the low-range transfer case, though.
We briefly sat in the back of the Triton towards the end of the launch. One of the common double-cab afflictions is that the rear bench's backrest angle is too vertical – you don't exactly "recline in comfort". But in the Triton, the seating position is not too upright; the back reclines by a few degrees, which means the bench is a bit more comfortable. We also appreciated the pair of aft USB ports; they're ideal for charging mobile devices.
The updated Triton has arrived at an interesting time... Ford will soon launch its facelifted Ranger, replete with new engines and gearboxes. Other rivals include the Isuzu D-Max, Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara. However, as Mitsubishi points out, its top-spec offering is R25 000 cheaper than its nearest competitor. Interestingly, the price of the top-spec derivative is the same as the outgoing Triton, which deserves some applause. We've always liked the Triton and our prior criticism of a mediocre infotainment system have been addressed by the installation of a new, modern unit.
We look forward to putting the newcomer through its paces on both road and 4x4 scenarios, but if this brief encounter is anything to go by, the Triton will continue to be a solid and successful offering in the bakkie market. The range comes backed with a manufacturer’s warranty of 3 years or 100 000 km and a 5-year/90 000 km service plan and 5-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance. Service intervals are every 10 000 km.
