I guess also worth noting that like. No I really don’t think “culturally Christian” should be compared to internalized homophobia bc it’s not actually a bad thing. It’s neutral. Having a culture is good. It just,,, is a thing
I also have never used it to imply someone is “really” Christian or “secretly” Christian or not a real atheist or that they can’t get away…
I mean I get how it comes off that way.
I just think that… there’s more to Christian culture than Christianity itself.
Or uh. More to the point. When Jews say Christian we actually mean something different to when cultural Christians do
Like as a little little kid I first thought that “Christian” was just the word for “non-Jew” till my parents explained that there are also Muslims and Hindus and other religions too
Even when I was somewhat older it didn’t really occur to me that someone who celebrates Christmas and Easter but doesn’t go to church was not the same religion as someone who goes to church every week
Note that sentence — I’m still framing it as about what you do
It wasn’t until I was even older that I learned it was about belief
Which means essentially that I was applying Jewish concepts to Christianity
With that being said though, while the concept of “Christian culture” does not have coherence within a Christian framework, it still exists and needs a name
And, when we are speaking of people, it’s possible that “cultural Christians” is not a good term for the group of people that includes believing churchgoing Christians as well as secular Americans who celebrate Christian holidays. However the reason I don’t think someone has not come up with a term for this is because the term is not the problem. The problem, for them, is that we’re lumping these groups together in the first place. That we’re imagining that they have any similarity and aren’t fundamentally different groups of people.
And that’s when I start to suspect it’s a “doesn’t know water exists because we’re fish” situation in that you really don’t realize Christian cultural hegemony is a thing.
If the store manager forcing her employees to wear Christmas outfits or telling them they’ll be fired if they don’t come to work on Yom Kippur is actually an atheist it doesn’t materially make anything better for those employees. That’s where we’re coming from here.

Frank Frankly's Character Analysis !TW! Metal Health, M4ss4cr3, death
Eddie got his analysis so of course his husband would have one! (Fun Fact! despite Wally being the main character, Frank shows up in 18 outta 53 images!) fun facts outta the way, HERE WE GOOOO!!!
He likes Honesty and Truth - quote from his bio "He enjoys being frank, even if it means being Frank" i love this quote on his bio and this is the main reason they're my kin.
2. Frank is an Asperger? - Although he is confirmed to be autistic by @partycoffin , his personality makes him an Asperger (My tito has Aspergers so i know the gist of it). His official Bio points out his Bookworm Tendency, and his Grumpy attitude and that points it to Asperger Syndrome. So here's the traits
Resistance to or Obliviousness of Social Niceties, Blunt Honesty ("Frankness")
Non-Instinctual Facial Expression (his neutral face is a frown and not a smile like the others)
Comprehensive Academic Knowledge, with unique Specialist Subjects (Bookworm who loves Butterflies)
Periodic Emotional Volatility, "Meltdowns" (His Head Physically Spins when angry, to the point he is exhausted and dizzy; he also flaps his arms when excited)
Adherence to Formal/Traditional Decorum to navigate social situations (he has a few costume changes of his own, talk about that later)
Sensory Sensitivity and rigid dietary habits (Frank is shown making Green Gelatin Salad on two separate occasions, I'm guessing he likes the Color and Softness)
Anxious in otherwise Moderate Stress events (he was freakin out when carpooling with Wally)
Friends in different age groups (Poppy and Julie are confirmed as autistic so poppy might be older and julie maybe younger. i have friends a grade below me)
3. Entomologist job from a university??? - Y'all prolly already know this, Frank's love of butterflies isn't just a hobby non non, he is infact an entomologist, we can confirm this with the spinning head GIF, there's mounted butterfly specimens on his wall. Alright alright, Bug Collecting won't buy you a can of beans and traumatizing Howdy from the Bodega, UNLESS your an employee from a University to research the nearby Insect Wildlife. (It's not rlly mentioned in The Show but most of them have some sorta job) I think thats how Eddie reunited with Frank bcuz the university might be working in the military program Eddie enlisted in back in 1953. What is obvious is that This University MUST exist or frank and eddie wouldn't reunite.
4. Ethnicity Analysis Time!!!!! - Frank showed his ethnicity through his Valentines Card (thx frank!). Frank is wearing an Old-Time Safari Costume when catching Butterflies, but it's not just a stereotypical costume non non, the design is inspired by a VERY specific Uniform. he's wearing is a British Expedition Bush Jacket, topped with a matching Safari Pith Helmet, Light Tan Fabric of the Indian Variety. Although the card is in a pinkish hue, I can tell that the uniform is a tad bit lighter so its a Light Muslin Fabric. Yeah Sure, the British Invasion of the 60s revived the Shacket look for Women's Fashion, but Frank's pragmatic personality made it clear that he was issued that Expedition Uniform with Function planned in it. In addition with his Grey skin, Black hair and his iconic Unibrow, He is designed to look like The Stereotypical Depiction of a Gentleman Scientist of Hindoo Colonial Heritage or to simplified it, he came from Hindu / Indian origins.
5. Frank's Story - Frank Franklin was born in 1942 and was born Half Indian from his mother, He was fascinated with bugs and specifically Butterflies as they represent change and rebirth. He was teasedfor having his name as his last name (Have u guys even heard of Tweek Tweak?) even with his blunt honesty he made friends and even became childhood sweethearts with eddie. One day in Senior High, Eddie said that he was gonna enlist and may return 2 years later, Frank was worried as to add salt to the wound his soon to be Ex sunny became toxic and mean-spirited so ofc they broke up. 2 years later he was working as an Entomologist at St. Marioneta University (I made that up) and then he ran into Eddie, they were happy to see each other still okay so on an unknown date in 1969 they married in secret (THANKS ALOT TIME PERIOD D:<). months later in October 11 1969 a man named Ronald Dorelaine Isekai'd Frank, Eddie and some friends you know to the World of Welcome Home, but tragedy struck 4 years later, An event known as The Playfellow M4ss4cr3 killed the crew and the stars of the show but Dorelaine's body was not found and was reported MISSING and presumed dead, This marks the 50th year they were stuck in the void, Are they longing for Freedom or The Sweet release of DEATH?
Wanna hear a wholesome fun fact? In Hinduism, Butterflies are symbolic of birth, ancestry, marriage, deceased soul, death and divinity. No wonder why frank is so attached to Butterflies.
Thank you for reading! o(* ̄︶ ̄*)o

The Need to Recognize Christmas' Preferential Treatment 🎄
Christmas is seen as "stolen" from pre-Christian traditions or described as "not really Christian". Some of it is legitimate (e.g with specific local or national folk traditions), a lot of it is pseudo-history (e.g Mithras birthday, an entire Christmas tree, lights) but frankly neither actually matter. Because, in our modern world, Christmas holds a prestigious place due to Christianity.
.🔹.
Here are examples that showcase Christmas' ubiquitous, unquestioned place in many Culturally Christian nations and why we need to recognized its ubiquity:
Appropriation of Judaism, re-imagined for Christmas exists like this. @/koshercosplay has basically an infinite amount of examples to use for these posts and even gets sent asks of more examples.
There is no Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu or other religions' holidays reserved as an official federal holiday in the US. So all non-Christian religious holidays are labeled as "accommodations" while Christmas is a given.
While my post targets the US because thats were I am from, this isn't US only. Christmas is a public holiday in a large protion of countries around the world (see map).
Hallmark Christmas movies, that are made by the dozens at this point and are a US Christmas staple, are propaganda longing for a better ""family friendly"" white washed Christian version of America that never existed.
Hallmark has added anti-semitism into it's Christmas movies.
A Hanukkah presentation was banned in a Florida school meanwhile the same school was celebrating Christmas activities and decorations. Justified by Florida's Parental Rights Bill ("Don't say gay" bill) "obligating us to follow the 5th grade standards [...] At this time, a Chanukah presentation is not in our standards." It was only reversed to to social media outcry.
Something similar also happened in a Vancouver school where Christmas decorations were allowed because they "aren't religious" while Hanukkah ones were explicitly denied.
Fasting and breaking for prayer during Ramadan is seen as an inconvenience to employers, who need "guidance" on how to "accommodate" their Muslim employees. And has led to Muslims being straight up fired. Whereas Christmas decorations, events, or music in a work setting is fine.
Universities won't hold classes on Christmas but will reverse their practice of not holding classes on Yom Kippur & Rosh Hashanah because not holding classes on those holidays is "intended to insure greater continuity in the academic schedule and minimize course disruption for students." Those two holidays are a debate at the university— Christmas is never a debate.
Not holding classes on Eid al-Adha is also controversial! This also included reversing the decision to not have classes. The decisions to not hold classes on the holiday is a debate at the school board— Christmas is never a debate.
To make it all worse in the US: Christian Nationalism is dramaticlly increasing x x x
.🔹.
No matter what pagan-ness or secular aspects can be found in Christmas it has a privileged special place in our culture— that is afforded to no other religion— specifically because it is Christian. There are a few examples where this isn't the case (e.g Japan) but those are very few and far between
In my strong opinion: if you choose to celebrate the holiday, as a Christian or non-Christian, you should recognize the special spot & privilege it has.
You shouldn't dismiss that fact and the above examples because "pagan origins" or "celebrating it in a secular way"
Maybe next time when your classmate, your child's classmates, or you sibling's friend want to put up Hanukkah decorations in school next to the Christmas ones you can speak against the school administration that bans it, or against the teacher who gets upset at the idea.
Or perhaps you can be the person at the school board meeting who points out that Christmas isn't any more special than Yom Kippur or Eid al-Adha so why are those debatable when Christmas isn't.
Recognizing these things is not raining on Christmas' parade nor does it mean you should feel guilty for celebrating, its simply a matter of expanding you view of the world and learning the obstacles other people face.
.🔹.
P.S
Recognizing its preferential spot is paramount imo but if you'd also like to touch on the history of the matter:
Here is some info on the "Christmas is stolen" argument, as well as tracing secular and religious history of the holiday.
The origins of Christmas and its traditions are marred with psudeo-history plastered all over news websites, blogs, and supposedly reputable sources. But many of this comes down to secondary sources citing each other in a loop without primary sourcing. Here is an example of how that can happen (not xmas related).

Bangladesh protests threaten safety of religious minorities as temples burned, homes ransacked

Bangladesh protests threaten safety of religious minorities as temples burned, homes ransacked
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bangladesh has descended into chaos following the shock departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, with religious minorities targeted as riots spread throughout the country. “You people are descendants of the Awami League! This country is in a bad shape because of you. You should leave the country,” a mob shouted at Hindu residents of a mixed neighborhood, the BBC reported. Crowds gathered over the weekend to express intense anger at the economic turmoil that much of the country has suffered. Many believe that elites who aligned with the ruling Awami League party, however, have prospered in this time, giving way to deep anti-government sentiment. Those sentiments came to a head on Monday when protesters ransacked Hasina’s official residence, her party offices and a museum dedicated to her father, while Hasina resigned and fled to neighboring India. NOBEL LAUREATE TAPPED TO LEAD BANGLADESH AFTER EMBATTLED PRIME MINISTER’S OUSTERThe country has a makeup of 90% Muslims, with the rest of the population largely Hindu and very small pockets, around 5% each, of Buddhists and Christians. The ruling Awami League party, which Hasina led, is a secular group, but rivals often view Hindus as their supporters – making them prime targets for their anger in the wake of the prime minister’s flight. A crackdown on the protests prior to Hasina’s departure led to the deaths of over 200 people, which only inflamed the protests and strengthened resolve, The New York Times reported. The U.S. State Department urged Americans to avoid traveling to the country as civil unrest continues, going so far as to order all non-emergency U.S. government employees and their families to flee on Monday as protests grew more severe. “Travelers should not travel to Bangladesh due to ongoing civil unrest in Dhaka,” the State Department wrote in the advisory. “Violent clashes have occurred in the city of Dhaka, its neighboring areas, and throughout Bangladesh, and the Bangladeshi Army is deployed nationwide.”BANGLADESH STUDENT PROTESTERS TO MEET WITH MILITARY CHIEF AFTER OUSTING COUNTRY’S PMIndian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Tuesday that India remained “particularly” worried about the “minorities, their businesses and temples also… under attack at multiple locations. The full extent of this is still not clear.” “We are also monitoring the situation with regard to the status of minorities,” Jaishankar said. “There are reports of initiatives by various groups and organizations to ensure their protection and well-being. We welcome that, but will naturally remain deeply concerned till law and order is visibly restored.”The organization Open Doors, which tracks discrimination of Christians worldwide, ranked Bangladesh as having “very high” persecution levels, claiming that “converts to Christianity face the most severe restrictions, discrimination and attacks.””Religious beliefs are tied to the identity of the community, so turning from the locally dominant faith to following Jesus can result in accusations of betrayal,” the group wrote on its website. “Bangladeshi converts often gather in small house churches due to the risk of attack.”TRUMP ON RUSSIA PRISONER SWAP, WH FOREIGN POLICY: NOBODY RESPECTS BIDEN AND KAMALAThe Hindu reported that Hindu businesses and homes were targeted in the violence – at least 97 places on Monday and Tuesday “attacked, vandalized and looted,” according to Rana Dasgupta, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council. At least 10 Hindu temples were attacked on Monday, the council said, which raised concerns among European Union diplomats who expressed great concern over “reports of multiple attacks against places of worship and members of religious, ethnic and other minorities in Bangladesh.” “We urgently appeal to all parties to exercise restraint, reject communal violence and uphold the human rights of all Bangladeshis,” EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley wrote on social media platform X.Hundreds of people were killed as Bangladeshi security forces cracked down on the demonstrations – violence that only fueled them, even after the quota system was dramatically scaled back.It showed that her government “wildly underestimated just how much anger there was among the public, and the sources of the anger which went beyond the issue of job quotas,” said Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Income Tax Deductions List - FY 2023-24 (AY 2024-25) | Kotak Life
It is essential to understand the exemption in income tax to maximize your savings. While many are familiar with Section 80C, numerous other allowances can significantly reduce your tax liability. This extensive blog post takes you through various exemptions available under the Income Tax Act in a simple manner, making it easy to plan your taxes effectively.
What are Tax Deductions? Tax deductions are specific expenses or investments that reduce an individual’s taxable income, thus lowering the amount of income tax they are required to pay. The government allows these deductions to encourage individuals to save and invest, purchase insurance policies, and contribute to specific funds and schemes.
Income Tax Deductions on Investments Under Section 80C Investment instruments offer tax-saving opportunities under the provisions of the Income Tax Act of 1961. Every financial year, taxpayers can potentially reduce their taxable income by up to ₹1.5 lakh through deductions available under Section 80C.
Section 80C deductions apply to individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), allowing them to claim a maximum deduction of ₹1.5 lakh from their total income. As per the latest budget reforms, individuals adhering to the old tax regime can continue to benefit from deductions amounting to ₹1.5 lakhs under Section 80C.
It Is important to note that these deduction rules do not apply if taxpayers have opted for the new tax regime.
Income Tax Deductions List in India Understanding the various deductions available under the Income Tax Act is essential for taxpayers to optimize their tax planning strategies effectively. Here is the list of income tax deductions available in India:
Income Tax Deduction Under Section 80C Section 80C is one of the most popular tax-saving provisions in India. Under this section, taxpayers can claim deductions up to ₹1.5 lakhs in a financial year. Some eligible investments and expenditures under Section 80C include:
a. Employee Provident Fund (EPF)
b. Public Provident Fund (PPF)
c. Equity-Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS)
d. National Savings Certificate (NSC)
Income Tax Deduction Under Section 80CCC Under Section 80CCC of the Income Tax Act, individuals can claim annual deductions of up to ₹1.5 lakh for contributions to designated pension plans offered by term life insurance companies. However, this deduction is subject to the overall limit specified under Section 80C of the Act.
Income Tax Deduction Under Section 80CCD This section includes the contribution to the Atal Pension Yojana. It allows a contribution of up to 10% of the total salary of salaried employees and 20% of the gross income of non-salaried employees to the government-notified pension schemes. The contribution can be deducted from the taxable income under Section 80 CCD (1). If the employer also contributes to the scheme, the entire contribution amount can be claimed as a tax deduction under Section 80CCD (2).
It is important to remember that the complete deduction under Section 80C, Section 80CCC, and Section 80CCD (1) cannot exceed ₹15,00,000 in aggregate. However, the additional tax deduction amounting to ₹50,000 under Section 80CCD (1B) is above this limit.

The Ultimate Reality: Brahman in Advaita Vedanta
Tumblr media
Hook:
Advaita Vedanta, a cornerstone of Hindu philosophy, presents a profound understanding of reality and consciousness. Central to its teachings is the concept of Brahman, the ultimate reality that transcends all forms and attributes. This article will explore the essence of Brahman in Advaita Vedanta and how businesses can integrate these principles to foster a culture of unity, ethical practices, and sustainable success. Additionally, we will provide a practical toolkit for incorporating these insights into everyday business operations.
Understanding Brahman in Advaita Vedanta:
Advaita Vedanta, meaning "non-dualism," posits that the perceived world of diversity and multiplicity is an illusion (Maya). According to this philosophy, the ultimate reality is Brahman, which is infinite, eternal, and beyond all dualities. Brahman is the substratum of all existence, the source from which everything emanates, and the essence that pervades the universe.
In Advaita Vedanta, the individual soul (Atman) is not separate from Brahman but is Brahman itself. The realization of this non-dualistic truth, known as self-realization or enlightenment, involves transcending the ego and recognizing one's true nature as Brahman. This realization dissolves the illusion of separateness and reveals the interconnectedness of all beings.
Relevance in Business:
In the context of business, the principles of Advaita Vedanta can inspire a shift from competitive, ego-driven practices to a more collaborative, ethical, and holistic approach. By embracing the concept of oneness, businesses can create environments that foster unity, mutual respect, and shared success.
Incorporating Advaita Vedanta Principles in Business:
Cultivating Unity and Collaboration:
Understanding that all individuals are interconnected parts of a greater whole can foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration. By emphasizing shared goals and values, businesses can break down silos and promote a more cohesive organizational culture.
Promoting Ethical Leadership:
Leaders who embody the principles of non-duality can inspire trust, integrity, and ethical behaviour throughout the organization. Ethical leadership involves making decisions that consider the well-being of all stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and the community.
Fostering Innovation and Creativity:
Recognizing the interconnectedness of all beings can lead to a more inclusive approach to innovation and creativity. By valuing diverse perspectives and encouraging open dialogue, businesses can tap into the collective wisdom of their teams, leading to more innovative solutions and greater adaptability.
Practical Toolkit for Incorporating Advaita Vedanta Principles in Business:
Mindfulness Practices:
Meditation Sessions: Introduce regular meditation sessions to help employees cultivate self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Meditation can reduce stress, enhance focus, and promote a deeper understanding of non-dualistic principles.
Mindfulness Training: Offer training programs that teach mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing exercises and mindful listening. These practices can improve concentration, foster empathy, and enhance overall well-being.
Collaborative Decision-Making:
Inclusive Meetings: Ensure that meetings are inclusive and provide opportunities for all voices to be heard. Encourage open dialogue and create a safe space for employees to share their ideas and concerns.
Consensus Building: Implement consensus-building techniques to make decisions that reflect the collective wisdom of the team. This can involve facilitated discussions, round-table debates, and voting processes that prioritize unity and collaboration.
Ethical Business Practices:
Code of Ethics: Develop a comprehensive code of ethics that outlines the company's commitment to fairness, transparency, and social responsibility. Ensure that all employees are familiar with these guidelines and understand their importance.
Sustainable Practices: Adopt sustainable business practices that minimize environmental impact and promote social responsibility. This can include ethical sourcing, waste reduction, and community engagement initiatives.
Leadership Development Programs:
Values-Based Leadership Training: Offer leadership training programs that focus on cultivating values-based leadership skills. Emphasize the importance of integrity, empathy, and ethical decision-making.
Mentorship Opportunities: Create mentorship programs that pair emerging leaders with experienced mentors who embody the principles of non-duality. These relationships can provide guidance, support, and inspiration for future leaders.
Food For Thought:
Advaita Vedanta provides a powerful framework for understanding the true nature of reality and our place within it. By recognizing Brahman as the ultimate reality and dissolving the illusion of separateness, we can foster a more harmonious, ethical, and collaborative approach to business. Through mindfulness practices, collaborative decision-making, ethical business practices, and leadership development programs, businesses can integrate the timeless wisdom of Advaita Vedanta into their operations. This not only enhances organizational culture and performance but also contributes to a more sustainable and equitable world. Embracing these principles can lead to profound transformations in both personal and professional realms, unlocking new levels of success and fulfillment.
Practical Toolkit Summary:
Mindfulness Practices:
Regular meditation sessions.
Mindfulness training programs.
Collaborative Decision-Making:
Inclusive and open dialogue in meetings.
Consensus-building techniques.
Ethical Business Practices:
Development of a comprehensive code of ethics.
Adoption of sustainable and socially responsible practices.
Leadership Development Programs:

Mentorship opportunities with experienced leaders.
By implementing these tools, businesses can align their operations with the principles of Advaita Vedanta, creating a work environment that embodies unity, ethical leadership, and shared success.

Moving towards Inclusiveness at Workspaces
Tumblr media
2nd of April is marked as World Autism Awareness week. In solidarity with the movement, this week, we want to speak about the value of workspaces practising the virtue of being inclusive. The only effective way to speak about this is by offering examples of workspaces which are making a difference through their inclusive approach. SAP Labs in India is one such place. Liffy Thomas wrote an article “A Red Carpet Welcome for the Autistic”, for The Hindu.
The article speaks about the processes companies follow in “integrating” those with autism into the workforce. While it is slightly challenging, it is by no means impossible. The process is simple enough to be followed by organizations who excuse themselves from having inclusive practices by giving the reason that they do not have the required capacity. Employment for persons with disability remains a crucial issue in India, and an area which needs our immediate attention – both at an individual level, and at a policy and governance level.
Below is the detailed article. The article was first posted here.
To integrate them into their workforces, an increasing number of companies are now following a series of processes
Around April 2, which is World Autism Awareness Day, employees of SAP Labs in India will gain fresh insights into the mind of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In fact, every year, around this time, the company relaunches this initiative.
This is absolutely necessary, for the company follows a policy of setting aside a small percentage of jobs for people with ASD.
Currently, across its India offices, SAP Labs employs 16 of them.
“This autism awareness week, we plan to hire more autistic adults. The process will run into weeks,” says Kiran Venkataramanappa, development manager and program me lead for Autism at Work at SAP Labs.
Work buddies
SAP Labs has placed them in jobs involving software testing, software development, quality assurance and documentation.
“We have a special on-boarding program me to help them settle down. Each of the autistic adults gets a ‘work buddy’,” says Venkataramanappa.
P. Rajasekharan, co-founder, V-Sesh, a company that provides employment for persons with disability, says the mainstream recruitment process should not be followed while hiring those with ASD into the workforce. Right at the outset, an effort has to be made to discover their hidden talent. There are multinational companies that collaborate with non-profit partners to tap hidden talent in autistic adults. Skills that can set the autistic above neurotypical employees are: attention to detail, logical skills and the ability to remember vast amounts of data.
Job coaches
“We work closely with companies to find ‘job coaches’. They have to be sourced from within. These job coaches have the task of helping those with ASD understand their work and get integrated into the workforce,” says Rajasekharan, adding that job coaches should be willing to commit themselves to this work for a period ranging from one week to one month.
To help these employee settle down in their roles, companies have to invest in visual aids. “Instead of saying it, the job coaches should help the autistic see it. This way, they will be able to retain information better. A work chart for such employees are a must,” he says. Akila Vaidyanathan, director, The Amaze Charitable Trust, an organisation that offers skill programmer for the autistic, says companies can help by offering flexible work hours, besides training and mentoring. JP Morgan, Lemon Tree Hotels, Barclays, Dell and ANZ Bank are among other big companies that keep their recruitment doors open for the autistic.
INTEGRATION MANUAL
* Offer flexible working hours and don’t set the rules in stone
* Initially, allow a parent to accompany the employee
* Assign a mentor to the employee
* Ensure these employees go on a team outing every month
* Train the managers to handle the tantrums these employees may throw
Change always begins at a micro-level. Is your organisation disability friendly, both in its recruitment process as well as its environment? We would love to feature your organization. Do write to us!

What are the tax benefits as per The Income Tax Act, of 1961?
India's income tax laws and regulations offer both individuals and businesses several tax advantages. In India, the Income Tax Act of 1961 provides the following common tax benefits:
Fundamental / Basic Exemption: Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) and individuals are both eligible for a basic exemption limit. The precise cap is determined by the taxpayer's age and place of residence. For instance, the baseline exemption ceiling for people under 60 years old is Rs. 2.5 lakh for the fiscal year 2022–23 (the assessment year 2023–24).
Standard Deduction: An annual standard deduction of Rs. 50,000 is available to individuals and salaried taxpayers. The availability of this deduction is unrelated to the actual costs expended.
Deductions under Section 80C: This section offers several deductions for particular investments and costs, including:
National Savings Certificate (NSC)
Repayment of Principal Amount on Home Loan
Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF) contributions
Tax-saving Fixed Deposits (FDs) in specified banks
Life Insurance Premiums
Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) investments, etc.
Tuition fees for children's education
Public Provident Fund (PPF) contributions
The maximum deduction under Section 80C is Rs. 1.5 lakh.
Deductions under Section 80D: Deductions for health insurance premiums for oneself, one's spouse, one's kids, and one's parents are offered in this section. Based on the insured's age and the make-up of the family, the deduction cap varies.
Deductions under Section 80G: Under this clause, deductions may be taken for contributions given to specific charities and disaster relief funds. The beneficiary organization determines what proportion is deducted.
National Pension Scheme (NPS) Deductions: Over and beyond the Section 80C cap, contributions made to the NPS are eligible for deductions under Section 80CCD(1B). The most that can be deducted is Rs. 50,000.
House Rent Allowance (HRA): The Income Tax Act's Section 10(13A) allows those who get HRA as a benefit to deduct certain expenses from their taxable income. Based on the least of the following, the deduction is made:
Actual HRA received
Rent paid less than 10% of the salary
50% of salary for metro cities or 40% of salary for non-metro cities
Home Loan Interest: The interest portion of house loan installments may be deducted by people under Section 24(b). For self-occupied properties, the annual maximum deduction is Rs. 2 lacks.

Indian Culture Contexts
1. Business:
What business protocols and practices operate in the culture you've been studying?
What are common/expected business greeting behaviors?
What are appropriate initial conversation topics?
What are the rules for personal/professional appearance?
How do people in your selected culture handle gift-giving?
Expected business behaviors in Indian culture include punctuality as it is very important to be on time in Indian business culture as being late is a sign of unprofessionalism and disrespect to other business partners. Business etiquette includes dressing in a formal manner, which does not include revealing clothing for men and women which screams unprofessionalism. Indian culture wants clothes to be neat and have no signs of wear and tear such as stains and dirt marks. High ranking officials in business always have high end clothing such as suits and tuxedos. Many business corporations want the employees to dress as a reflection of the company. Many corporations have put the dress code down a little due to wanting employers to be comfortable while they work. Gift giving is not an essential part of Indian business culture but if you do decide to give a gift give, Indian culture requires you to give it either with your right or both hands as opposed to just your left hand, which is seen as unclean.
Identify at least three potential communication challenges that an American businessperson could face if they were to find employment in an international organization in your chosen country.
One would be that if there were to give a gift they might give it with their left hand which is seen as disrespectful. Another communication challenge an American might face is wearing jeans in the workplace as I know some corporations in America are very lax on dress code in which an American Businessperson could be dinged for. Indian culture business is very serious as in America humor is sometimes accepted in business matters as it is not in Indian business.
Imagine that you are a U.S.-based manager who has been assigned a new employee who recently moved to the U.S. from the country you are studying. What strategies can you use to help your new and existing employees navigate differences in cultural expectations related to attitudes toward work, decision-making, and conflict management?
Strategies that I could tell that person navigating through our culture is to be on time and to dress formally like you are ready for business. I would show some signs of humor as being relatable is very important in American business as the more likable you are the better that can work out for you in the end.
2. Healthcare
Describe the healthcare belief systems in the country you are studying this semester. Which perspectives are most common? Which additional perspectives are also present? How do these perspectives influence illness prevention and treatment?
The healthcare system in India is divided by public and private sectors. Every citizen in India has access to the public sector. But a lot of citizens turn towards the private sector as the public sector has less resources and is underfunded
Your textbook notes that understandings about death vary from culture to culture (see pp. 373-374). What are key cultural beliefs and practices surrounding death and dying in the culture you are studying?
Indian culture is Hindu, and Hindu belief about death is that they believe in reincarnation, which is when someone passes away  the soul takes a different form. They also believe that after death the body serves no purpose, so all bodies are cremated. The funeral ceremony usually takes place within 24 hours of the death.
Imagine you have a friend who has been offered a chance to work with an NGO (Non-governmental organization) doing healthcare-related work in the country you have been studying this semester. What intercultural communication advice would you give to your friend to help them communicate effectively with their patients and co-workers? Be specific.
I would tell my friend to know non verbal cues and to research them before they visit India. Also physical touch is not big in India so stay away from that, and in India a strict “no” is a little too harsh.
3. Education
1. Describe the education system in the country you are studying. Is public education free and available to all students, or must families pay for their children's education? How many years of basic education does the typical student complete?
The majority of schools in India are attended by most of the Indian children. Education is free socially and economically until the age of 14 and it is split up into 4 levels. Lower Primary, upper primary, high, and high secondary.
2. Describe a typical school day. When does school begin? When does it end? How many days do students go to class each week?
Each day in school doesn’t follow any particular schedule; the school day starts at 9:30 and ends at 4pm . A 5 day school week, Indian students get the weekends off Saturday and sunday.
3. What percentage of high school graduates continue on to college? What is the college graduation rate? Does this rate vary by gender, race, and/or other demographic factors (e.g., urban/rural, socioeconomic class, etc.)?
The percentage of students that graduate and go on to college is 27%. About 10% of students go on to complete college and get their degree.
4. The authors of your textbook point out that "what and how a culture teaches is a reflection of its beliefs, values, and characteristics." Try to find information about the topics students are expected to study. How are they similar to or different than U.S. educational topics? How might this selection of topics reflect the beliefs, values, and characteristics of the country you are studying?
Indian schools have a simple curriculum similar to the US as they teach math, science, and social studies. Also they learn 2-3 languages including English and another local language.
