老師是學生第二個家長

每個人都有做過學生的時候,同樣地,每個人心目中的老師也不同。老師,一時會嚴厲地斥責你的不是,一時會像父母噓寒問暖,一時又會如朋友一起分擔煩惱。究竟何謂一個好老師?於香港公開大學英語教學及英語研究雙學位課程畢業的鄭誠,是2016年香港準教師協會主辦的「傑出準教師選舉」金獎得主,他說:「做好老師先要有兩個條件,除了學科知識豐富,最重要是有心,肯為學生諗多一步。」
要奪得傑出準教師金獎有哪些準則未必有絕對答案,但從跟鄭誠的交流當中,顯然易見他是一位好老師。「老師是學生第二個家長,學生在學校的時間很長,見老師還較父母多,所以老師責任重大,自己的一言一行,他們都有目共睹。」鄭誠剛剛放學就趕過來做訪問,雖然帶點疲態,卻依然字字擲地有聲。
波要認真踢,書要認真讀
鄭誠矢志育人,能得到這個獎項,或許要從他求學時期開始說起。曾患哮喘的他,中學時被體育老師發掘出長跑天賦,邀請他參加校際越野賽,不過家人堅決不允許他比賽,幸得老師成功說服到母親,自此憑著出色表現贏得不少獎項,亦令他明白到老師原來並非只會教書,也會以真心關懷學生,這深深影響著他立志投身教育界。
於公開大學修讀英語教學及英語研究雙學位的他,想法跟一般老師非常不同,他覺得教學時不應該太執著成績,因為學校操練得太多,學生承受的壓力太重,有時可能適得其反,「考試原意是想總結一個學生這個學期究竟學了甚麼,以及學習成效如何,如果太過執著成績或分數就失了原意。有些學生的才能並不是讀書,學業成績差令他挫敗感很強,但可能他在其他方面的才能很高,所以不用過於執著他的學業成績。」不過這並非鼓勵學生要就此放棄讀書,因為適當時候就要做適當的事,責任上需要學生去完成的事,學生都應該盡力完成,在此基礎上,老師不應該阻止學生去做他們自己有興趣的事。
曾經見到有學生在球場上明明生龍活虎,在課堂上卻昏昏欲睡,鄭誠沒有責怪他,反而跟他說:「波要認真踢,書要認真讀。」因為他深深明白很多學生可能記性不好,學業上未必能領略到太多知識,但他們或運動天賦高,或藝術感強,「其實天生我材必有用是真的,每個人都有自己的強項,這強項未必是讀書,但認清自己天賦的同時,我希望他們也先盡力做好自己的本份。」

社會對老師的期望
作為一個老師,他也曾遇過固執的家長。有位學生欠交功課10次,家長知道後反而投訴他,質問他為何這麼遲才通知家長,他惟有讓家長知道,其實家長也有責任檢查學生的手冊,並不能將責任全推在老師身上,「老師情緒控制要非常好,如果因一時意氣而跟家長吵,就會影響到學校,所以要學懂如何婉轉令家長知道他們責任所在。」家長和社會對老師都有一定的期望,甚至有人覺得老師在街「篤魚蛋」也不可以接受,但鄭誠覺得但求自己無愧於心就可以。
小時候讀書在學校,長大後工作又在學校,即使場景一樣,但鄭誠明白到角色不同了,身份亦令他責任更重。談及未來目標,他希望可以繼續晉升,管理學校,不過這並非只一己前途考慮,而是希望藉著自己為學生帶來更多正面影響,「首先要令學生上學開心,如果他們上學開心,自然就會喜歡學習。」他的想法,注定他成為好老師。
鄭誠於香港公開大學修讀的「英語教學榮譽教育學士及英語研究榮譽學士」為雙學士課程,由教育及語文學院開辦,課堂理論及實習兼備,期間亦需參與暑期課堂,成功修畢四年課程後,畢業生將獲得教育局認可的英文科教師資格,讓有志於教學的畢業生快一步高飛創未來。 除了鄭誠修讀的「英語教學榮譽教育學士及英語研究榮譽學士」,以及現有的「英語研究榮譽學士」和「語言硏究榮譽學士(應用中國語言) 」外,學院於2018學年將會開辦3個新課程,分別是「教育榮譽學士(中國語文教學)及語言研究榮譽學士(應用中國語言)」、「語言硏究(雙語傳意)榮譽學士、國際商業榮譽學士」及「教育榮譽學士(幼兒教育:領導及特殊教育需要)」,新課程可經「聯招」(JUPAS)申請報讀

「讓盲人看得見」是一項神蹟?來到21世紀,要讓視障人士看得見,可以是頂尖醫學,也可以是創新科技,在香港土生土長的90後男生馮廣照(Michael Fung) 選擇了後者,在公開大學科技學院修讀榮譽電腦學位畢業後摸索年半,就決定成立初創社企,研發「iSee」手機程式,讓手機成為視障者的眼睛,透過前置鏡頭識別紙幣面額、各種顏色,以及日常生活中大大小小不同物件,再次燃亮視障者的目光。
視野不受視力所限
Michael的手機程式名為iSee,這一詞的意思是「我懂了」,但對視障者來說卻有更深一層意義。Michael從小接觸失明的叔父,看到他的生活因視力所限,一直緊緊地框嵌於狹小的世界。「失去視力令他經常留在家中,活動空間受到很大限制,他從小在教育上就喪失不少機會,導致長大後就業選擇也不多,所以生活質素一直難以提升,我想透過新科技幫助年輕的視障人士,令他們在人生的起步上有多些選擇。」手機程式使用簡單,只需���鏡頭對準想辨認的物件,輕觸屏幕,手機就會讀出辨析結果,100元、500元、紅色、灰色、木材、牛仔布……而且還可以讀書認字,分辨出湯包名稱、食油或豉油等。
視野不應該由視力所限,視障人士只要得到合適的工具,也可以放眼世界;其實由「看見」到「懂得」,iSee想做到的是為他們重獲被剝奪的機會與生活的尊嚴。Michael說:「有次跟一位年輕視障人士談天,明白到他們抗拒被標籤,因為他們其實可以獨立生活,所以不太喜歡別人過度的幫忙。」尤其當日常生活涉及私隱,視障及失明人士同樣希望有適當的私人空間,「例如六合彩,他們買了電腦彩票不希望被別人知道是甚麼號碼,又或者處理私人信件,現在都可以透過新科技去做。」iSee就是他們的眼,讓他們可以放心依靠。

年輕的手改善世界
Michael經常眉頭深鎖,有種超越27歲的沉穩,因為成立這間IT社企,年輕的肩膀承擔著每月租金、員工薪水與社會使命,自嘲「餐搵餐食餐餐清」,但比起畢業後在IT公司打工的那一年,現在的工作有意義得多,「以前返工就是不斷重複為不同公司製作類似的程式,這些程式對社會沒有太大幫助。現在雖然比以前更忙、做的事更難、要顧慮的更多,但每天都可以改善到社會、幫到一些人,比起單純為錢工作,現在才是我想做的事。」
當然,iSee作為初創企業仍然有它的一套商業模式,期望可以持續發展,「我們現在仍不斷改良程式,亦與不少本地社福機構合作,讓更多視障及失明人士接觸到iSee,未來希望可以把iSee推廣到其他亞洲地區。」同時Michael亦慶幸母校由始至終都一直為他提供支援,「公開大學其中一個特色是師生關係很密切,現在工作上有甚麼問題,仍然可以打電話問教授,他們亦有派學生來實習幫忙。」現時iSee的幾位員工都是公大畢業生,靠他們年輕的雙手,雖然未足以改變世界,但如Michael所言,最少是在改善世界!

Michael在公開大學所屬的科技學院涵蓋多個不同科目範疇,除了電子及電腦工程學,還有檢測和認證以及互聯網科技等,其中「檢測和認證榮譽工學士」及「互聯網科技榮譽電腦學學士」均屬於「指定專業/界別課程資助計劃」(SSSDP)課程,SSSDP的課程主要通過「聯招」(JUPAS)分配學額,合資格的本地學生可申請每年四萬多至七萬多元的學費資助。 另外,科技學院於2018/19學年將開辦「檢測科學和認證榮譽理學士」新課程(可經「聯招」或「直接申請」報讀),此課程將教授學生有關食品、環保、化學及微生物等範疇的檢測認證知識和技術,設計全面實用。大學更設有多間配備各種先進儀器的實驗室,並提供不同的實習、比賽和對外交流機會,讓學生能汲取實務經驗,盡早掌握業界的要求,為未來高飛做好準備,掌握精彩人生。

Makin是香港公開大學人文社會科學院的高級講師,本身一直從事實驗電影、新媒體、影像科技及音樂藝術工作,多年來為業界培育出一個個電影、電視、廣告及娛樂行業專才,「做創作是一定要讀的,他們要學的不只限於技術層面,如果你只有技術,當然仍可以去開工,但很快你就會發現這並不夠。」
哲學建立世界觀及美學體系
他以朋友之中一位在業界頗有名聲的視覺藝術家為例,「他真的很紅,工作機會從未間斷,但人生累積的經驗與靈感,短短幾年就已燒完,作品很快便不再獲好評,所以最後他還是選擇重返校園,打好根基。」所謂的根基,是美學及哲學方面的訓練,他設計的課程重視培養同學的哲學修為,雖然看似無關,但往往在真正開始從事創作的時候,就會發現對整個思考過程發揮很大作用。

學生的功課不只透過影片或照片表達,就如「美麗」也可以有不同的廣度、深度與角度,Makin 談到學生的作品��掩興奮,就算已任教多年仍能不斷發掘到年輕創作者帶來的嶄新衝擊,「學生會把個人生活融入作品,帶領你進入他們的世界。曾有一位讀寫障礙的學生製作了一個黑盒,當你走進盒內就會看到周遭都是從鏡子裡看到反轉了的文字,這樣以一個體驗來進行溝通,與傳統平面影像表達手法不同,令整件事變得立體化。」
訪問當日,Makin的學生阿波就在剪片室內專注地跟同學剪接他們的畢業電影作品,每個拍攝畫面的專業程度,比我們在電視、電影看到的並不遜色,阿波說道:「我們想從這個作品中表達的是人生中的遺憾。」如Makin 所說,學生們除了畫面美感,非常重視每件作品的深層意義。阿波畢業後想從事電影相關工作,所以在大學生涯中也非常努力,不會放過每個電影及廣告製作的實習機會,「畢業後我亦希望建立自己作品的網上平台,拍些自己喜歡的題材,盡量作多方面的嘗試。」

Makin提醒有興趣從事影視工作的年輕人,現時香港公開大學已有12個課程納入「指定專業╱界別課程資助計劃」(SSSDP),資助學額逾1000個,其中包括該學院的「電影設計及攝影數碼藝術榮譽藝術學士」、「創意寫作與電影藝術榮譽文學士」,以及「動畫及視覺特效榮譽藝術學士」,合資格本地學生可申請每年四萬多至七萬多港元資助,部份課程的資助金額佔學費差不多九成,令有志修讀的學生更無後顧之憂,安心享受大學生活。他說:「人生可以這樣和志同道合的人,不計利益不計成本去自由嘗試自己想做的創作,可能就只有學生的時候了。」

運動健將和白衣天使,兩個截然不同的形象,偏偏同時出現在Janet的身上。初次跟Janet見面,只覺她是個很活潑好動的小女生,但當她換上學護制服,在模擬病房示範如何幫病人插喉時,表情立即變得認真及凝重,完全跟剛見面時判若兩人,「公開大學的護士實習課室有幾個模擬病房,每張床都有模擬病人,讓我們可以真正實踐課堂上學會的知識,這樣學插喉、包紮等手法時也更容易上手。」Janet說。不過在模擬病房練習再多,面對的始終是假人,所以她也很珍惜每次真正在醫院實習的機會,就以插喉為例,用假人練習過程會很順利,但真人會嗌痛,而且有時會有阻塞,情況非常不同。
童軍、運動練出合作精神
今年是修讀護理學課程的最後一年,喜歡挑戰的她最想成為急症室護士,現時她已到過靈實、聖母、瑪嘉烈、威爾斯、東區等各大醫院實習,但實習時最難忍受的,原來並非要經常「追更」,也非要處理病人的大小便,而是因做錯事而自責,「第一次實習時要幫病人在打豆位置先沖鹽水(靜脈輸液),再駁去輸液,但我夾不穩吊鹽水的喉管,所以沖鹽水時令血塊倒流令整支鹽水變成紅色,碰巧那時是探病時間,整個病房都是家屬,此舉嚇壞了他們,自己也很愧疚,如果是專業護士就不會發生這種錯誤。」雖然護士不應該亦不能夠犯錯,但Janet畢竟仍是實習期,而且猶幸這不算犯了太大的失誤,所以她也警惕自己不要再犯任何過錯。這知錯能改的態度,跟她長期接受童軍及運動訓練也有關係,因為做護士最重要就是跟病人溝通以及與同袍合作,遇到不清楚的事情時必須提問,「因為性命尤關,如果不問清楚就去做,小則連累病人情況惡化,大則會搞出人命。」Janet說。
做實習護士,最難忘的或許是第一次見證死亡,「有次幫一位90歲的伯伯接駁心電圖機,開機時發現全是橫線,那時很擔心自己是否駁錯線,後來才知道他當時已經過身了。駁線時明明仍有體溫的,當我知道後很震撼,原來我竟然距離死亡這麼近。」不過人生無常每天都在醫院上演,Janet見得多了就漸漸平常對待,始終這個行業經常接觸死亡,真實經歷過後,她已有心理準備面對以後的工作。做護士非但不能怕面對死亡,更要有勇氣面對厭惡性工作,例如面對大小二便就是護士其中一個很重要的職責,「很多人忽視了幫病人換片及清理糞便的重要性,其實看糞便可以觀察到病人的生理狀況,所以一定不能怕。」

目標登上珠穆朗瑪峯
做護士工作繁忙,經常要「追更」,休息時間短;做運動員,則需要長時間做體能訓練,而且出國比賽閒閒地至少一個星期。每人每天只有24小時,Janet根本不能兼顧兩者,二擇其一之下,她選擇當護士,但並不代表她放棄了運動,「小時候有想過做運動員,但現實是運動員搵食艱難,可以做到很出名,之後靠名氣搵食的機會很渺茫。」她笑說。所以Janet目標很清晰,她想將運動變成自己興趣,而非職業。攀上珠穆朗瑪峯是她的目標,不過要實現這目標需要投放大量資金,所以首先她會攀過一個又一個的「山峯」,成為註冊護士,再一邊儲錢去完成這目標。

Janet在香港公開大學修讀的護理學榮譽學士(普通科)課程,由護理及健康學院開辦,學院另一個課程 -護理學榮譽學士(精神科)- 亦可通過「聯招」(JUPAS)招生報讀,兩項課程都屬於「指定專業/界別課程資助計劃」(SSSDP)課程,合資格的本地學生可申請每年$71,700的學費資助。 Janet修讀的課程為期5 年,期間除了課堂學習,亦有很多機會參加實習、交流及其他課外體驗活動,畢業後可在香港護士管理局註冊成為註冊護士,助她達成護士的目標,高飛創未來。

攀過高峯 踏上護士之路

如果說龔子珊(Janet)是個運動健將,相信認識她的無人會反對。她自7歲半起就接受童軍訓練,更獲選為「2015年度模範童軍」;本身是冰雪攀登香港代表隊的唯一女將,2015年在攀冰難度賽及速度賽分別排名世界第62位及第21位,年紀輕輕的她已周遊列國參與攀山比賽,攀過的山多不勝數,包括台灣玉山、日本富士山、越南番西邦峰(Fansipan)、美國華盛頓州貝克山(Mount Baker)等等;於香港本土比賽,長洲太平清醮搶包山她參加過6次,有3次進入決賽。不過,今次要說的並非她於體育界的威水史,而是藏於她運動健將形象背後,那顆溫柔的心。

用心教學,用心成長

今年20歲的黃葆怡(Audrey)中學時代有過很不愉快的經歷,令她跌入低谷。沒有支持與鼓勵,老師反而一句把她「判死」,向她爸爸說:「你個女一定讀不到大學。」讓Audrey自信瓦解,承受極大挫敗;但這個反面教材,更堅定了她成為幼稚園老師的心,「香港學生壓力很大,令我更想成為老師,我希望用我對幼兒教育的知識令小朋友可以開開心心、有自信地學習,建立一個愉快的童年。」
現時Audrey是耀中社區書院(已升格為耀中幼教學院)的學生,兩年的學習,令這位準幼師對幼兒教育有更深的認識與體會,同時亦了解到遊戲學習的重要性,「我們應以小朋友為中心,根據他們的興趣去教導,而不是只依從既定計劃,所以上課會有很多突發性的活動,例如有一次我到幼稚園實習時,小朋友們學到消防車,很想去了解多點,我們就立即一起造一架消防車出來,這樣一起去互動學習,跟以往老師講、學生聽不同,大大增強學習動機。」
建立自信,才會主動學習
她分析道:「一個人要全面發展,最基本就是要有自信心,而自信心從哪裏來?就是要快樂主動地去學習,如果靠大人去催谷,就不是發自內心,當他沒有興趣去學,自然不會記得到我們想他學的東西了。」
「有些人會覺得小朋友很嘈吵,又經常扭計,其實他們為何會吵吵鬧鬧只有兩個原因,一是他們想得到某些東西,二是他們想逃避某些東西。其實和小朋友相處很簡單,也很開心,他們的純真令我很想教好他們。」不過Audrey亦慨歎,香港小朋友由年幼開始已經要承受很大壓力,「要上堂、要課外活動、做工作紙、補習,很難有一個開心的童年,長大後回想起童年可能就只是做工作紙,我不想這件事發生!我知道自己一個可能改變不了甚麼,但至少我希望將來由我教的學生,可以從遊戲中學習,開心的成長。」
教師的角色很重要,尤其幼稚園的小朋友很愛模仿大人的行為,「我的角色是帶領他們去學習,而不是把知識塞進他們腦袋。」Audrey在最近一次實習發現,當有小朋友在爭吵,作為老師的她引導他們說出自己做了甚麼、錯了甚麼,讓小朋友自己思考整個過程;到下一次再有爭吵情況出現,就有一個小女生懂得自己走出來調停,「這個情況很有趣,亦警剔我們老師一定要成為一個role model。」

對小朋友好,他會知道
小朋友可愛、有趣,同時也令Audrey感到很窩心,「你對小朋友好,他會知道。」曾經她在一次實習中接觸到一個學習遲緩的小朋友,頭一兩天小朋友都沒有說話,但到了第三天,「我跟他去操場玩,他很慢很慢地說出M...i...s...s...A...u...d...r...e...y...,那一刻我真的很感動,想不到他這麼快就懂得說出我的名字。所以你一定要用心照顧他們,你給予多少支持,給予多少愛心對待小朋友是會有回報的。」
今年,Audrey就會從耀中幼教學院的幼教高級文憑課程畢業,兩年的課程、三次的實習,令她對幼兒教育的熱誠有增無減,雖然已經考獲成為幼稚園教師的資格,但她已決定繼續升讀幼兒教育學位課程,正式成為大學生,並期望在將來把耀中「愉快學習」的理念傳開去,將這個訊息帶給香港的家長及教育界。
