15: What book changed your life?
book asks @fbissaderekmorgan
I know I’ve answered this before; I remember being all ‘OMFG AMY ASKS ME THIS EVERY DAMN AT THE SIRENS DINNER YEAR GIVE ME A BREAK’.
Small Gods by Sir Terry Pratchett just...  I was already at a point where I was less than thrilled with organized religion when I picked it up to tide me over on a flight to my aunt’s.  I did not expect it to impact me that much.  The criticism of organized religion contrasted with the support of spirituality/the idea of serving the gods by helping your fellow man was just...  It was what I needed to help me clarify my thoughts.  I still, to this day, quote the book when trying to explain my belief system.  To the point where I think my mother will throw any copy of the book she lays her hands on out a window because she’s just that sick of hearing me quote it.  It was the second Discworld book I ever read (after Mort) and frankly it’s very much why I continued with the series.  Which, in turn, means it’s responsible for several other significant influences from the books on my thinking and personal philosophy.
