Five Fabulous Friday Finds - Week 11
This week we are taking a look at educators that are working toward creating more of open network within education.
(1) I would like to begin by introducing Mr. S, who has become quite an inspiration to me.  Not only is he working on writing a book, by he is a perpetual source of positivity and is a wealth of knowledge.  Though Mr. S has been teaching for quite some time, he constantly is working on bettering his craft.  Take a look at his Twitter account!  This man right here is a prime example of an educator who works toward building an open network for educators
(2) Another source of inspiration at my school is Mrs. D-M.  Mrs. D-M is such a fun teacher to watch, and she is more than happy to share her ideas and her lessons on Instagram, where she is more than happy to bounce ideas around with other educators to continue to build their crafts, thereby expanding their networks and creating a safe space for other educators to share.
(3) Mrs. M, our Digital Production/TV Studio Guru of a teacher, constantly pushes her students to push past their limits to discover of what they are capable.  This year, Mrs. M, in conjunction with the high school, is hosting the 3rd annual Behind the Lens Film Festival, where students in the neighboring school districts are welcome to submit their films, which incorporates a viewing party, before the prizes are distributed.
(4) Teachers Pay Teachers is another outlet where teachers, all around, really have worked together to create a network in which they can share their ideas, their lesson plans, and their resources with other teachers.  Not only does this create an open network, but this creates quite the community, as well.
(5) Finally, I bring to you Kayla Delzer, who is a second grade teacher working to redefine the way we teach.  Kayla explains how the way to revitalize and revolutionize learning is by letting our students become the teachers in the classroom, which is difficult for so many of us to do because we are so used to having control of what goes on in the classroom.  Take a listen to see what she has to say!

Openly Networked
We live in a world of advanced technology, thereby lending to an open network.
With that said, technology constantly is advancing, and even then?
Even then we fall short.
We fall short in terms of our humility.
We fall short in terms of our awareness.
We fall short in terms of our humanity.
How then can we say that we are openly networked?
How then can we say that we are connected?
This world is filled with such hatred, such angst, such closed-mindedness.
We have forgotten about the people that literally are around us.
We are more concerned about posting to social media, afraid of not trending.
How many likes?
How many shares?
How many re-tweets?
We need to take a minute to dial it back.
Go back to the basics of being connected.
Go back to the basics of being aware.
Go back to the basics of being human.
We start with, “Hello.”
We start with, “How are you?”
We make an effort to take the time to learn more about those around us, and in doing so?
In doing so we open our networks, enabling for the potential for positivity and change to take over the world, thereby creating the openly networked world we all Google to find.
