Before the World Begins by rilla (@flomps)- The first time I read this, I cried. Then again the second, third, fourth, etc. Lew and Dick meet in NY before Benning, before everything, and it's under very different circumstances. I love the characterization of Nix and Dick in this so much and the gentleness in the midst of all the smut. A TALENT!

Lancaster County by rachelelpillo - Technically not pre-war because this is an AU where it happens without them. It's bittersweet, but emphasis on the sweet. Teenage Dick and Nix and a whole summertime of falling in love.

Bicostal by dancinguniverse - I am a sucker for anything that starts at OCS. I love this and the telegrams and letters tucked within it.

Bird Wedding by rachelelpillo - The way she writes anything really sounds like a summer day to me. This one is very understated and just wonderful if you want something that leaves you smiling. (Highly recommend you go through her work, last she posted was in 2010. :') )

And at Your Touch, I Burn by Muccamukk- CHRIST. A SICK!FIC. God I love this for so many reasons, one of them being just the incredible way Mucca describes the field exercise, the crawl and length of it. And Dick getting sick. Nix doing what he does. It's wonderful. It's perfect.

Vampire Overhead! by joissant - There's a little Vampire!Nix AU for you. In the midst of Bastogne and hunger, there is this and it's fucking fantastic.

love divine, all loves excelling by @flanneryoconnorfanfiction - The way my heart soared all throughout this fic. Religion, for many reasons is often the point of friction for Dick, and this one turns it over its head. It's reverent and (so) joyful and honestly, probably what God should feel like. There are not enough kudos-es in the world.

Post-War

Head Trip by @ezlebe - Two lines from this fic ring in my head daily, that's how much I loved every bit of it. And I mean who isn't a sucker for Operation Varsity-adjacent fics? Harry's in this so it's automatically just extra wonderful for me. I LOVE!! I absolutely love.

Like a Bird on the Wire by semperama - Them coming home without an established relationship is always a trope enjoy. Blanche Nixon is here being cheeky, and Dick is all smiley, Lewis is stressed the fuck out. It all makes for a wonderful get-together.

More than a Team by @mercurygray - I love reading about Ann Winters and I love seeing Nix and Dick navigate those familial relationships after the war. This is short and so, so sweet. Every bit as wonderful as the ice cream.

thyme and rosemary by @oatflatwhite - Yet another one where Ann Winters makes a wonderful cameo. Dick is trying not to be miserable and he keeps writing all these unsent letters to Lew. Featuring the cutest kitten ever.

You honestly loved your job at Buzzfeed, who would've thought you would get to a point where you get to hang out with famous artists and actors for a day? Intern you would never believe it!

You've only made videos with one other person, like Tom Holland and Dove Cameron, but the moment you you were told you were doing more than one person, you were beyond nervous. The next celebrity, or celebrities, you were to hang out with was kept a secret from you, all you were told was to be packed and ready to fly somewhere with some of your crew, apparently everything had already been planned, that's never happened before, you tended to plan as the day went on.

On the plane, your camera operator and best friend gave you the list of activities. The names were covered and some activities as well, all you knew was that you were painting, baking, and going to a gym. "Wait, a gym? I have to work out?" You asked her and she laughed at your expression. You do work out but it's practically rare.

You also had no idea what flight you got on, you just followed the people you knew and your best friend, Sara, took your ticket before you could read it while Eric, your co-editor, covered your eyes and ears.

The moment the pilot welcomed everyone to Seoul, your jaw drops and you turn to Sara. "You're kidding, wait, who are we here to see? Who am I hanging out with?" You kept spewing questions but they wouldn't answer. Not just yet.

Next you find yourself blindfolded again before being walked into a building. You stood off to the side as you heard your team set up and then you were put in front of the camera, the blindfold taken off you and Sara fixed your hair before stepping away and you look towards the camera confused, you go to turn to look around but were told not to as Sara queued you to start.

"Hello everyone, it's Mn, and welcome to another episode of 'A day with a celeb'. I'm gonna be honest, I have no clue who today's guest is, I was told absolutely nothing but today, um..." Sara zoomed in on your face as you furrowed your brows. "We're Seoul, South Korea." You chuckle nervously. "Um, the only suspicion I have is that I'm going to be hanging out with my first K-pop idol or idols, I was told there was more than one."

"What group do you think you're hanging out with?" Sara asked you with a grin. "Girl, that smile is so creepy." You laugh and you hear a snicker behind you which made you jump (It was Felix, shh). "Wait, is there someone behind me?" "Mn, just answer the question." "Um, Ateez would be pretty cool to hang out with- Oh, wait, you gave me a list." You pull it out of your pocket and unfold it.

"The names are crossed out but there's some activities that I can read. There's eight things crossed out and I can only read cafe, painting, gym, and shop. That doesn't give me much." Sara laughs, her gaze appears to be over your shoulder. "Mn, real quick, can we film your ootd?" "U-Um sure." You readjust your footing and put the paper away. "Today I'm wearing Converse, Jeans, a cream shirt with a little blue pocket, and a Maniac Varsity Jacket from my favorite small business. They customized it to have Wolf.Chan from Stray Kids peaking out the pocket." You point to the embroidery with a smile.

"Who's peaking out of the pocket?" "Um, Chan's animal counterpart, he the leader of-" "Heard someone call my name." An arm is suddenly draped over your shoulders and you look to your left as the sudden arm around you made you jump but your immediately walking away with a scream, hiding your now rapidly warming face as you turn completely, only to be met with the other members as well.

"Are you kidding me?!" You turn to Sara who's laughing with the others. "You are so evil!" You jokingly scold her as Chan approaches you, you cover your face as he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you back in front of the camera, seeing as you ran off behind the camera out of shot.

"This can't be real, is this really happening?"

You have to be dreaming.

Helloooooo its me who’s reread all ur true detective and killer Joe fics. I think my favourite is High Speed, Low Drag. I love the insight into Rust’s time as Crash,(even if it is in a fic) and I love how you wrote the struggle between him wanting to do the right thing, but also needing to keep his cover, AND how he’s still reeling after his daughters death and divorce and is deep in his nihilism but begrudgingly still cares about Sig.

AND on top of that, the sex is hot. The line in part two when he’s like “Sigourney please don’t tell me to stop,” I wanted to run around in circles for an hour like a rabid dog 😵‍💫

I was so nervous about posting that series too because I thought there was no way in hell I could pull off a virginity auction. Better writers can do natural narratives of meeting in a regular way, at work or a bar etc, in an escalation of attraction (I’m thinking specially of The Creeping Woods, Dead Flag Blues, and The Idler Wheel) which wait I guess technically I did use both of those settings? but I hate slow burns and find my idea of Rust so divorced from his own libido that it would take something extreme to catch his attention and hold his interest (I didn’t even know what Sugar did to do so until I was typing up how he said she shot someone six times and I was like damn she did??).

Okay so I totally invented Sig to be gross but also because I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed for him to care for something other than The Work— not that I think she distracted him from, ya know, the death of his daughter and divorce from Claire, but might’ve eased that ache by going through the motions again. I don’t think Rust could stomach watching her be neglected even while he’d mentally shout at himself that he has a Job To Do, a Cover To Keep, and suddenly he’s setting fires to sabotage a puppy mill operation apart of an overly complicated plot to steal Canik for her. Something @glitterslag mentioned was how he grew up isolated and on the fringes of everything so he’d be captivated by this Blonde Americana Cheerleader but I think he’d recognize how that creates its own kind of danger for Sig, too, and becomes even more protective once she made the squad (he’d be unbearable after she got to varsity— booster club president fr, I so wanted to write him getting mistaken as her father and just going with it but thought I can be more subtle about my weirdness)

Ten Seventy Three likely has the most tender smut I’ve written this year and so different from the intimacy I tried to establish between ‘12 Rust and Sugar. I was rusty with writing loss of virginity but the biggest challenge I had to work around was convincing myself ‘95 Rust would even be good in bed lmao

some goofy behind the scenes: I fashioned the efficiency apartment Crash brought Sig to after the first place I lived with my husband (it was that dark and dreary and we were so broke lmao), I cheered a bit in high school and still think bases should get more rep— we hold entire! girls! above our heads, Sig’s name was because I was so hoping Alien was released the year she was born (it was a few years later) because I could see her mother going for Sigourney after the horror of motherhood she depicted on screen and Ginger would be like ya lets name our daughter after a gun (Sig Sauer or just “Sour” when she’s being a brat— Rust does Not Ever call her that), Canik is also a gun manufacturer, “Riders in the Sky” is sung by Johnny Cash but I like Peggy Lee’s version more— if you want to save your soul from hell a’ ridin’ on our range / then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride

try reading American Wasteland by @sparklingmineraltequila the one chapter I’ve gotten to read between writing is so so so spot on in how the essence of the Crash era is captured— I love Cassandra!

Northwestern was part of Operation Varsity Blues, so Meghan getting into Northwestern doesn’t automatically make her intelligent. Thomas could have easily bought Meghan’s way in. Meghan GRADUATING from Northwestern, however; that means she at least has some smarts. People can deny her graduation, but the Northwestern commencement program is easily found online, and has her name in it under the School of Communications. I’ve seen Meghan haters talk a lot of shit about Communications. Studying Communications includes: theory, public speaking, statistics, international relations, critical thinking, etc. It’s not half as simple as people make it. Also, Meghan being in the School of Communications doesn’t mean she lied about her degree/s. Her programs of choice were likely under the Communications umbrella, and she could have easily minored in international relations. (Her not learning a damn thing in that field aside.)

Operation Varsity Blues refers to a specific scheme that took place between 2011 and 2018 - long after Meghan attended college.

That said, I cannot imagine that Thomas Markle could have afforded to BUY her way into college. Both she and her father have discussed the fact that she needed loans for college, so if they couldn’t pay the tuition they CERTAINLY couldn’t have bought her way in.

Meghan attended and graduated from Northwestern University. She got in on her own merit.

Whether or not she learned anything through her coursework is, as you said, an entirely separate discussion lol.

Lori Loughlin is among the cast who will be starring in On Call, the first scripted streaming series from Dick Wolf‘s Wolf Entertainment. The police drama for Prime Video will release all eight episodes on Jan. 9, 2025, and adds to Wolf’s prolific slate of Law & Order, Chicago and FBI-branded series.

Described as an “adrenalized and visceral police drama,” the half-hour series, which moved over from an original order at Amazon Freevee, stars Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars), Brandon Larracuente (The Good Doctor), Eriq La Salle (ER, Logan) and Rich Ting (Tulsa King), along with Loughlin.

The first-look images (above and below) debut Loughlin’s Lieutenant Bishop, along with Bellisario’s hard-charging but protective veteran officer Traci Harmon, who struggles to find her place in the department while training the next generation of officers; Larracuente’s Alex Diaz, an ambitious rookie who grapples with holding onto his optimistic outlook as he realizes the challenges he’ll face in today’s climate; La Salle’s Sergeant Lasman; and Ting’s Sergeant Koyama.

Former Full House and Fuller House star Loughlin was released from prison in December 2020 after serving almost two months of her sentence for her role in the Operation Varsity Blues college admissions scandal. She has since returned to TV by reprising her role in the GAC Family series When Hope Calls and a pair of holiday movies for the cable channel. More recently, she made a guest appearance in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where she poked fun at herself and signaled a bigger Hollywood comeback. On Call now marks her first recurring role outside the GAC network.

When speaking at the time to THR about Loughlin parodying herself on Curb, executive producer Jeff Schaffer said, “It’s great to be able to laugh at yourself. It’s a great way to put the past behind you. I hope it helps her career. She was great, and she should work. She was really funny and wonderful to work with. People should see, ‘Oh, she’s really funny. She’s great in this stuff.’ So yeah, I hope she does get to work because she deserves to.”

Earlier this year, Loughlin broke her silence on her part in the college admissions scandal, saying, “Every day, we’re met with different obstacles. But, for me, it’s like that song says, ‘I get knocked down, but I get up again.’ Nobody said life was going to be a breeze; we all make mistakes, but the important thing is to persevere.”

On Call is co-created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf. La Salle (a former EP and director on Chicago P.D.) is an executive producer and director on the series. backstory: born and raised in miami, florida, jacket enlisted in the army at seventeen. on the bus to basic training, he met another teenager named james nicke, who sported the beginnings of a shabby beard. thus, james’ name sign became “beard”. beard began calling him “jacket”, as he wore a brown varsity jacket whenever he could.

the two of them completed training and were soon members of the us special forces, placed in a unit with two other men; benjamin daniels and erich barnes. the four of them became as thick as thieves, and their unit was soon named the ghost wolves due to their efficiency and ferocity.

the ghost wolves were deployed in hawaii to combat russian forces. while in hawaii, jacket met a woman, alice, who he fell in love with. she agreed to come home with him when his deployment was over. while attacking a russian encampment, barnes and daniels were both killed, and jacket barely escaped with his life, dragged out by beard.

jacket, beard, and alice were soon able to return home once the conflict ended, and once jacket healed from his injures, he and alice rented an apartment in miami. beard bought his own convenience store and regularly called jacket and alice to check up on them.

a few years later, jacket returned home to find that his apartment had been broken into, and alice had been murdered. as he stepped inside, he was shot in the throat by the intruder, who turned out to be one of the russians he had fought in hawaii, looking for revenge. a neighbor found him and called the police and an ambulance, and he was brought to the hospital.

several weeks were spent in a coma, and when he woke up, he had missed several calls from beard, which he attempted to return. when beard didn't pick up, jacket went to his store, only to find that it was a crime scene. beard was killed by the same man who shot him. jacket lost his girlfriend and his best friend in one fatal swoop, barely getting away with his own life.

jacket was angry. who wouldn't be? he set out to get revenge on the man who killed them, and when he found him, he beat him to death and threw up. he hadn't killed in years, and yet it still felt the same.

his life went about as normal as it could once his apartment was cleaned up and cleared by local authorities for him to live in again. jacket signed up for a newsletter that showed up in his mailbox - something called fifty blessings, for true americans. it sounded like a load of bullshit, but it was free, and it did pique his interest.

a week later, he received a box on his doorstep and a call, telling him that his order should have been delivered. jacket was confused. he hadn't ordered anything. opening the box, jacket found a chicken mask. and a note.

the target is a briefcase. discretion is of essence. leave target at point F-32, inside the dumpster. failure is not an option. we'll be watching you.

ah, of course, just what he needed - to become an unwilling hitman. against his better judgement, jacket took the easy way out and obliged the note and call. if he reported this, no doubt would he be found and killed.

once he completed the task, he said it would be his last one. but it wasn't.

each mission provided the opportunity to kill russian mobsters in miami, and jacket couldn't help it.
