Why Migrate to Cloud?
If you searched for the importance of cloud migration and clicked on this article, you already know what cloud softwares is and the basic difference between the Cloud and on-premises. But what is Cloud Migration?
Cloud migration, in simple terms, is the adoption of a service with a reliable service provider instead of continuing to rely on the big infrastructure and servers at your location. The process involves moving all the data, computational workloads, applications, etc., into the Cloud.
Some businesses prefer moving only partially to the Cloud, while most move entirely, again depending on the present and future requirements of the company.
The decision to cloud migration is big. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that moving to the Cloud is what you want and it’s the right decision for your company. So, without wasting time, let’s move on to the benefits of migration from on-premises and the Cloud.
Benefits of Cloud Migration
Lower TCO: If not Cloud, the option that remains to implement software for better organizational working is to bring in on-premises software. However, to onboard on-premises software, the company must install a heavy infrastructure, appoint well-trained staff for technical maintenance and supervision, and bear a hefty cost (both at the installation time and for regular maintenance). In Cloud software, the costs mentioned above will be cut, leading to reduced TCO (total cost of ownership).
Faster delivery: When you move to Cloud, you also choose to fasten the process of onboarding and software integration with any other organization system. Cloud is a SaaS (Software as a Service) software; therefore, it takes much less time to be delivered and implemented. The main things that SaaS products require are operational customizations and staff training.
Flexibility and Scalability: Cloud-based software provides flexibility and scalability that remains missing from on-premises softwares. Once installed, infrastructure will be updated when you decide to do it, which would mean more expenses and labor. It doesn’t provide as much flexibility as the company might need, owing to the rapidly changing market scenarios. All this is because the entire setup is at the location. In contrast, in Cloud, the vendors, such as Oracle, provide automatic timely upgradation of their software services, keeping organizations up to date with the changing market.
Security and Compliance: Security is one of the biggest concerns when deciding between cloud migration. In actuality, security can be the strongest enabler of a cloud-first strategy rather than its biggest deterrent, as SaaS providers take all the measures to ensure data security and give assurance to the clients. However, it still is one of the biggest roadblocks in cloud migration. Oracle, for that matter, comes up with a stand-alone software, Oracle IAM (Identity Access Management), that provides added layers of security and manages multi-layer access control. It has proved a big win for Oracle as it provided additional security to the softwares and organizations.
These are a few benefits of cloud migration that answers why migrating to the Cloud is the need of the hour and beneficial to companies in various aspects. For more information on the topic or to migrate to Cloud, connect to Oracle Preferred Partner, Tangenz, IT System Integrator.
