On The Wrist: The Orient  Bambino (Gen 2, Ver 2)
Tumblr media
Japan’s Answer To The Classic Dress Watch, With An Electric Blue Twist
Have you ever seen something that makes you stop dead in your tracks? That leaves you completely spellbound, awestruck and stupefied? These instances are somewhat of a rarity in our lives, and that is what makes them stand out from the rest of the mundane moments in time that tick away.
One of these moments occurred when I stumbled upon the Orient Bambino line of watches whilst browsing the internet last month. In particular, the model pictured above, which is the Generation 2, Version 2 with white dial and those mesmerizing electric blue hands. Pictures do not do this timepiece justice, as you really have to experience the way the light reflects off these hands, like flashes of lightning.
Aside from aesthetics, this watch is a marvel of craftsmanship. It feels like a far more expensive watch when you wrap it around your wrist. It’s stainless steel case, genuine leather band, 40 mm case diameter, and automatic movement/hand winding and hacking capabilities exceed one’s expectations.
Now available from Amazon or Orient Watch USA for under $200, which lends to my conclusion that there is no better automatic dress watch for the price point currently on the market.
After one month on the wrist, I would say this watch is definitely worth your time.

With any new watch release, particularly one that is an iteration on a popular, existing model (or line) there’s a risk.  Is it not like the original enough?  Is it not different enough?  There’s a fine line to walk there.  Orient seems to be striking a good balance with their releases.  And while I can’t claim to know every iteration of the Bambino, this fifth version of the Orient Bambino is certainly a looker.
You can tell from the narrow hands, Arabic numerals, and relatively thin case (12mm), all topped by a domed (mineral) crystal, this is a watch going for the look of watches from decades ago.  In a simple design like this, it translates (for me) to a dressier piece.  Perhaps not a full-on dress watch, but one that is definitely a good bit more refined than your favorite dive watch.
With a 40.5mm case (available in three finishes – silver, gold, and rose gold) this will be a watch with some presence, and in a color tone that should fit with what you normally look to wear.  What you may not expect is the exhibition case back, which shows off the automatic movement.  Those crystals aren’t as common in dress watches, but it’s always fun to see a balance wheel in motion.
With pricing starting at $315, this is an easy recommendation for someone who’s looking to get a dressier piece into their rotation, either for the office or for those occasions where you’re getting all dappered up.  It’s a classic look, and one that won’t be out of place on your wrist a year or two down the road.  orientwatchusa.com

Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch: Following the Latest Retro-Themed Trends
Tumblr media
If nothing, even then the Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch remains a pretty popular name in the affordable automatic mechanicals class. Their line-up changes, but typical three-hand models remain a staple among those who appreciate a quality that would possibly belong to a piece way beyond the reach of the stated price. But Orient just does that! It’s the company policy The Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch is a dress category accessory that is also an incredible entry-level option out there. Those fond of old-style jewelry will find the Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch a most-appealing option. It is also structurally and mechanically sound. Note: Orient is a freestanding subsidiary of Seiko. It has its own history and heritage that are based on innovations. They also happen to be Japan’s largest producer of mechanical watches. Orient offers a true in-house manufacturing process running since their beginning. From the case to the glass, from straps to robust movements; hands, markers, dial…everything is created in-house. Orient runs its typical quality control methods upon every piece leaving their facility for the market. Disagreements regarding the aesthetics always arise; we won’t tread that part. What you can’t possibly deny is it’s kind of an elephant in the room. If you are a seasoned collector, you’ll always want to keep the higher priced pieces aside for selected events and activities yet always want to get a similar feel. For the newbie, the Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch paves a great way to ascension! In plain words, the Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch gets your wrist accustomed to the feel. The idea of wearing dress watches takes bit of an effort. The Orient Automatic SAB0C003U8 Men’s Watch makes that easier. It opens the door to higher dressier options. It is a watch that fits a wide variety of tastes for its bold, classic look. The watch just shows time and date, which makes it your automatic, go-to dress watch for a pinch and is still not throwaway! What makes this Mens Orient Watches model great is its attention to detail and quality that appears more naturally blending than forceful. Its Man-worthy look is bit retro while touching the peripheries of contemporary tastes. Its minimalism is modern though classic enough to be worn amidst various environments. All these are difficult – if not impossible – for most other brands to achieve at this level of affordability. The retro vibe tells the story of earlier dress offerings. Inside, it is Orient Caliber 48743; a 21-jewel, 21,600 bph automatic, mechanical movement. It doesn’t hack, neither takes manual winding. The automatic winding feature is capable enough to compensate. The seconds hand moves six times a second and therefore, pretty smooth. Sweep seconds, easy setting of time and date, a robust build and a great finish! Oh, and a good 40hr power reserve watches to have a fake patina; here, the dial doesn’t have a fake patina, but instead the color evokes the memory of an aged watch – a sophisticated nuance, and just one of many. All of these elements coalesce so adroitly, they create a timepiece that may join the traditional Bambino as one of Orient's iconic, classic models. Bottom line: As a manufacturer, Orient has created some fascinating entry-level automatics; the Orient Automatic Open Heart Men’s Watch is one of them!

Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch: A Classic-Influenced, Daily Piece
The name of Orient is associated with stability and consistence which proves the Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch is in adherence to the brands uncompromising standards. It is more austere and to-the-point than the gorgeous and ornamented Swiss dress pieces. It also doesn’t hold a chronometer certification despite resembling closely the accuracy of the Swiss Chronometers once you break it in more or less correctly. Neither is there any other of the extreme Swiss wizardries. It’s just about the precision, reliability and resistivity (humidity and shock) added with an efficient auto-winding and an ease of maintenance (which is ‘no maintenance’). The Jap magic is at work everywhere in the Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch. Orient has a tremendous capability for designing fine watches which definitely shows its finest representations through the Star Collection. Even the Galant and Bambino is a name that has attained an almost cult status. The simplicity of the Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch is based on its collective and uniform, identically expert execution of craftsmanship. Orient has been extremely diverse in design with the Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch from the Star but not with the care given to create this piece. It is the kind of watch that gets you into watches as a hobby. The Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch might just be a most interesting time-day-date watch on the planet. Orient’s deep journey into the finest watch-making traditions makes the Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s watch a well-grained, well finished and well-defined, smooth-edged piece. Its great advantage is – It demands nothing exclusive as Swiss watches often. The Orient Watches for Mens are accessible to everybody with subtle tastes. There’s no need for specific tools to open it if you decide to clean, adjust and lubricate it once in a while and you don’t pay greatly for that. All we can say to draw a final conclusion upon the Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch is it’s an extremely good quality watch that exudes almost the same qualities of above-entry-level Swiss’. Still, it is nowhere near the price and often, an expensive maintenance. The Orient Automatic FAL00002B0 Men’s Watch looks almost as good as the entry level Swiss beneath the dial, with a robust, precision motor! Its exteriors gleam softly with light and create a FAR subtler appearance when paired with either casuals or light formals. Bottom line: Especially for newcomers to the mechanical world, Orient creates a piece that will serve as a go-to watch for everything from work to play. The Orient Automatic Open Heart Men’s Watch can take hours-long grinding on the desk; then the wild bumps with music and a couple of spilt drinks and it shall still be smiling for years down the line.

Orient Automatic ER2700AW Men's Watch:  Minimal, Glossy yet Discreet
The Symphony’s classical styling is good if not great, but nevertheless unique. The very traditional design denies venturing into any exciting territory; it’s a very simple and - to an extent - common dial configuration helps Orient achieve a classical aesthetic that carefully stays outside the ‘ho-hum handsome’ territory. The Orient Automatic ER2700AW Men's Watch has a face that’s pretty discreet and minimal. The dial is recessed with an inward-sloping rim. The hour markers are applied on the dial with a lot of care and expertise. Instead of a domed crystal, the Orient Automatic ER2700AW Men's Watch has a flat mineral one, raised half a millimeter above the case; the vanilla look makes it a safe piece among any setting and also makes it easy to tell time. But the Symphony has an exhibition case-back unlike Bambino. Orient didn’t decorate the movement apart from shallow engravings about brand and model information, but it is built to run well and run for long. The rotor makes you feel its robust build, primarily due to a proper alignment and the firmness of the crown. The In-house caliber 48743 is miles ahead of the standard Japanese automatics like the Miyota 8215 or the Chinese automatics like Sea-Gull movements. In fact, it is at par with the Seiko 7S26 and the ETA C10.111. Unlike a lot more movements within this price range, it doesn’t incorporate plastic parts. The 48473 is all about metal and positive mixed feelings regarding accuracy. It’s consistent too. The mainspring of the movement stores up to 40 hours of running power; it uses 21 jewels for reduced frictions i.e. less wear and tear and beats at 21600 vibrations per hour. That’s 6 beats per second or the seconds-hand moving at 1/6th second increments. The Orient Automatic ER2700AW Men's Watch is certainly not the most fluid in the world but certainly so within its price category. For the price range, the case of the Orient Watches are pretty standard. Feels tough and feels to keep looking good for a long time, it is also easy polish if signs of age do show up. It carries a more luxurious aura to which the supple bracelet contributes generously. It’s fitted with a standard stainless steel buckle clasp, which holds securely when fastened and insured against coming loose accidentally. The overall package is lightweight and hence comfortable on the wrist for hours at a time. Bottom line: A stunner among the sub-$250 automatic watches other than the Bambino, the Orient Automatic Multi Year Calendar Men's Watch or the Symphony uses the same caliber movement as the Bambino. In short, it is a larger, classier take on affordable dress watches that’s also more affordable to the mass.

Orient 2Nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic Fac00001B0 Men’S Watch : A Classic With Modern Standards
The new and improved version of the original Bambino preserves its timeless design while upgrading itself technically. Unlike the first generation Bambino, the Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch allows manual winding and seconds-hacking, allowing precise time-setting and a relief from wearing it to keep it running. So now, you can treat this fine dress watch like one and not as a beater. The watch tale: Time to look beyond the rugged sports and tool watches! The Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch is a timepiece that works under a shirt cuff. A dress watch that saves your day when a classier option is needed minus the pinch, there aren’t too many better options present if you are to satisfy both the requirements without paying an atrocious price. Fit to be worn for weddings, job interviews or even at award ceremonies, the Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch is going to delight the true watch lovers also by offering the best price for this entry-level option. However, to understand the Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch fully, you must also understand where the design of the original Bambino remains rooted into – namely, the domed crystal, the domed dial and hands bent along the edge of the dial. These three features link the Bambino together. What you see: A dark, metallic dial housing polished and beveled hour markers and dauphine hands, the Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch also has a track of seconds-markers around the dial’s edge and a date window at the 3’o clock position. It looks identical to the Original Bambino except that the hands are not bent around the edge of the dial. The Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Classic Automatic FAC00001B0 Men’s Watch has been given the F6724 movement, which is an upgrade of the caliber F6922. This date-only caliber aligns perfectly with the new design and succeeds the caliber 48743, a true workhorse movement. Overall opinion The Orient Classic Automatic Men’s Watch sports a look that’s antique-inspired, making it a true classic-contemporary watch with modern styling elements thrown into in correct measures, with the classic feel enhanced further by an automatic, mechanical movement that allows manual winding and seconds-hacking. About Orient: Orient Bambino Watch is a freestanding, Seiko subsidiary with its own history and heritage, creating an entire line of interesting innovations. The surprising part is Orient is larger than the mother brand Seiko in Japan and happens to be the country’s largest producer of mechanical watches. A true in-house manufacturer, Orient creates everything on its own - from the case and straps to the robust movements. And above all, they stand as a bright example of typical Japanese quality-control despite offering their products at affordable price-points.

Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch : Adding Character To Your Everyday Wear
The Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch has as much character as can be bestowed by a square, stepped case; sub-dials on checquered main dial and straight, slim hour markers. All those make the Galant a ready to worn piece for every day, from workplace to the happy hours and beyond. The Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch belongs to Orient’s executive collection and revolves around the same idea of versatility that gives life to this particular series. It’s a watch that looks appropriate in more than one setting and hence, it can be truly called an executive watch, ready to accompany you throughout the day. Despite its multi-dial appearance, the Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch has a minimalist, austere look but at the same time, it exudes elegance through its unique combination of design elements that touch the realms of both modern and classic era aesthetics. Add to it Orient’s superior functionality and that makes the Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch stand out from the rest of the dress watches, even the ones that are supremely expensive. The Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch borrows from the Art Deco concept (stylized, geometric forms and designs) and features beautiful curves, with a gorgeous, convex crystal covering the dial from the top. It makes the watch take you by surprise, every time you look at it. That’s because what you see in the picture clicks in reality. The detailing of the Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch is better than what you might expect at this price point, with the size and weight adding a subtle charm when it’s atop the wrist. It also imparts a great value to the watch apart from making it inherently appealing. Even those who aren’t huge fans of rectangular watches will find the Orient M-Force Delta Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch a handsome dress watch with a commanding presence due to its strong, geometric design. It’s far from being opulent, extravagant and showy; but has enough texture and decorative details to bring in some great visual richness. It helps to emphasize the mechanical nature of the Orient Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch and well conceals its entry level status. The rectangular case, especially in this case, makes the watch look bigger than it is, which increases its masculine appeal, making the harsh lines and angles more prominent. So, as we see, the Orient Bambino Classic Automatic Galant Collection FETAC002B Mens Watch is nothing short of surprising its wearer. It has a great appeal, an impeccable finish and some unexpected, manly elements. Together, it is very much of a machine-age appearance that simply wears nice, fits well and looks good.

Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B Men's Watch : A Dressy, Daily Work-Wear
Few things about Orient: • You don’t need deep pockets to own an Orient watch. • Surprisingly, even with a lower price tag, Orient watches present an incredible value. • A solid built quality, mostly pleasing designs and reliable, in-house workhorse movements are the hallmarks of Orient and they are hard to argue against. • A staple name while short-listing watch models that are worth, Orient has long set the direction towards affordable and well-built mechanical watches. Note: All the above points apply to the Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B Men's Watch. The Monarch narrative: The Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B Men's Watch is an exceptionally well done dress piece that’s influenced by the ever-popular Bambino series, especially the case. A part of Orient’s Classic collection, the Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B Men's Watch is comparatively newer, introduced in early Fall 2015. The Monarch is uniquely vintage-inspired. This addition to the Orient family is unique because Orient produces very few manual winders and this is one. Domed sapphire crystal, a power-reserve indicator and an exhibition case back are the strong points; this combination is almost always absent in watches at this price range. The Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B measures 45mm with the crown and 13mm thickness, which is a great size for a modern dress watch. The case looks somewhat like a bubble flattened at the top and the bottom. The shape wears well on the wrist and makes the watch appear somewhat smaller than its actual dimensions suggest. The subdued lug-to-lug length responsible, the break between the mid-case and the bezel also play their respective parts. A prominent detail in the Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve DD03002B is the exaggerated onion crown. The small tube at its base results in a small protrusion like that in the vintage pieces; alongside, it makes for a much easier grip for winding. The slightly domed sapphire crystal on the top is far more pleasing aesthetically than any flat glass; even acrylic and mineral crystals. Turn the watch over and you’ll find an exhibition case back. Surrounding the glass aperture is an attractive fluted ring; a nice little detail that only highlights the exhibition case back. The black dial has a discrete sunray finish; it’s subtle and not at all noticeable unless you want to. A nicer choice than just plain black, which often looks flat and plastic if not done well! The exaggerated Arabic numerals are in an ornate typeface that pops out immediately into view. The Breguet hands are a bit brighter than tempered hands, sometimes reflecting the light dramatically, becoming the focal point of the dial. The power reserve indicator shows approximately 40 hours worth of power-reserve and brings a nice balance to the dial besides serving a functional purpose. The 48C40 caliber from Orient Mens Watches was fairly basic leaving that out, but it’s a wholly effective workhorse. Tucking in 21 jewels, it beats at 21,600vph; hacks and hand-winds. The movement was used for pocket watches, which earns the Orient Automatic Men's Watch another vintage aspect. Final verdict: A bit of a bulkier watch, the Orient Monarch Mechanical Power Reserve Men's Watch is a perfectly comfortable daily wear that does dip into the wrist, without raising any issue with shirt cuffs.
