I have no idea of the context in which this came out, but the Italian commentator said that he would love to see Kotov train with Medvedev for a month. At the end of which, the outcome could be either him quitting tennis or improving significantly

Braunschweig Ch F: Franco Agamenone def. Pavel Kotov [5] 7-5, 6-3 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP/WTA Joint App
Agamenone fought through his injury to sustain the moment in the second set. At the same time, Kotov could not capitalize on it and going more physical, where his constant errors in critical moments did not help to turn the tide despite its possibility right after he broke back to 2-3 in that set.
This was also reflected from the service games. Kotov's erraticness resulted in him double-faulting seven times, some in the most crucial moments of the second set (to his disappointment), while Agamenone still managed to have a 54% second serves winning percentage despite the injury. On the other hand, Agamenone's first serves still stood out by being 1% ahead of Kotov, even if the latter landed 68% of his first serves and Agamenone did not score an ace at all.
Kotov had to serve for the first set and almost turned the tide in the second set. However, Agamenone's realization of Kotov's fading second serves meant he had a better read from there, driving Kotov through the lines until the latter erred his final points at times. Somehow, Agamenone often smartly came up with some winners, including the one that created his match point to say he was lethal even if he got injured. As a result, while Kotov had 11 opportunities to break, Agamenone ended up converting more with 50% of his chances ended in the break of serves.
This marked Agamenone's fourth career Challenger title, first this year and since he won the Rome 2 Challenger in May 2022, ending that one-year title drought. While Trieste Challenger awaits for him, Kotov heads to Bastad (250) right away for his first qualifying round tomorrow. Should be an intriguing journey ahead.

📸 🎥 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
Things turned out to be a rollercoaster in the second set. After Agamenone's first service game hold, he came up with a forehand winner to create his first break point before a see-saw forever deuce moment took place, inclusive of Kotov's game points. However, at the expense of the latter's constant errors from the baseline (to his disappointment), Agamenone broke (2-0) before holding his service game (3-0).
After the third game, it appeared that both players asked for a medical timeout: Kotov for his right shoulder and Agamenone for his left thigh, signifying neither player could catch a break. Afterward, Kotov started to hold his service game before breaking back to 3-2 thanks to a forehand winner. By that time, there was a possibility for Kotov to turn it around.
The possibility was then closed with another erratic service game from Kotov, where Agamenone could capitalize on with a hold to 5-2. Two games later, he proved he was still lethal despite the injury, coming up with a forehand winner to secure his match point before converting it (6-3) because of Kotov's backhand error to close a rally. That title drought ended here, as a result, for the time being.
