I'm finally home from 10 days of traveling so I can post that
Dallas Fan Festival was last weekend!!
It was so much fun! 😭 I got to see Andy Serkis again and hangout with some of my dear friends (who are also some of my beloved mutuals 💕🥰). We all got autographs and to torment each other in line—some of us (me) more than others. 😇😈 We also got a group photo with him, which I absolutely adore! It's one of my favorite photos ever. He was SO excited when we all swarmed him! We all look so cute and he has a massive grin on his face.
(During the photo, I also rested my hand directly between his flexed shoulder blades and THE MUSCLES ON THAT MAN, DEAR FUCKING GOD, Y'ALL 🥵 trying to MURDER me)
Here are some photos I took of him in the autograph line
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had him sign the covers to Pandaemonium and The Accused 😍🥺 He was thrilled about Pandaemonium and said he really liked that movie. I told him I have a degree in English Literature and Poetry (which he seemed very impressed by 😎 My degree finally came in handy lol), so I really liked it as well. That it meant a lot to me to have a movie actually about poets—even moreso because he was in it. AND I finally got his signature next to Liam Black 🫠 There isn't a lot of open space on the cover so he wasn't sure where to sign it. I said, "We might have to sacrifice Sean Bean's head." He chuckled and, in a fake serious voice, said, "Sorry, Sean." HE'S ALWAYS SO SWEET AND LOVELY AND WONDERFUL 😭🥹
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunday we went to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas because they were playing Blue Whales: Return of the Giants. Which is a documentary on blue whales...narrated by Andy 😂 The lady checking our tickets said she liked our shirts because of course we rolled in there representing. (The documentary opened with him going, "Can you hear that? Can you feel that?" And we were all Very Normal 😌)
Tumblr media
The panel was really good. I know there are people that don't like that actors can't talk about their projects with the SAG-AFTRA strike going on, but I LOVE that we get to hear him talk about himself. He talked about his acting and performance capture, theater, mountain climbing, his love of jazz, and his photography, which he doesn't talk about a lot and was very exciting!! The interviewer was fantastic and asked a lot of fun "this or that" questions (he picked art museums over history museums, vampires over werewolves, but struggled with plays vs musicals lol). Here's a link to the panel if you want to watch it yourself!
I got a Caesar Funko, a Snoke figure, and an OG Cornelius figure. We also ""acquired"" some of the photos you could get signed if you didn't have anything special for him to sign, so I ended up with a David Robey and a Caesar print 🫠😌🥵. (Bless you and your taste for crime, H. I love you.)
Tumblr media
Overall, it was such a great convention and an amazing weekend. I loved Dallas. Huge thanks to @communism-bitches, @csboz, @the-eyes-of-andyserkis, and @tarrenterror25 for making the weekend extra fantastic and for being so lovely. 🥹 I love and appreciate you all so much. We're absolutely doing this again soon, hopefully with the rest of TNBF crew to make it EVEN better! 😍💖 Andy Con 2024!

HMS Erebus for the Terror asks?
What was the last museum you visited?: That would be The Hall of State in Dallas! It was during the Texas State Fair last October (which was very fun but I got sunburned all to hell). I REALLY want to go to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, just so I can see the dinosaurs. Even though I've wanted to be a paleontologist since I was four, I have NEVER seen a fully articulated skeleton! It's shameful 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think I'd cry if I saw one now!

Dear Gus & Magnus,
We went to the Perot Museum of Nature & Science today. Gus loved a game that allowed him to use his arms to control a hawk on screen. Magnus liked sorting vegetables in the toddler room.
After naptime we went for an early dinner, then the park we've made a habit of visiting every day. It's been a good trip. We're heading home in the morning.
Dad.

Historic Forest Theater in South Dallas To Begin Renovations
Tumblr media
The historic theater near Fair Park has sat unused for many years, but an influx of cash and a neighborhood redevelopment plan aim to change that.
The Forest Theater is finally set to make its long-awaited comeback. courtesy Forest ForwardLocal nonprofit Forest Forward broke ground Thursday on renovations to bring a local cultural mecca back into the limelight.
Adjacent to Interstate 45, at 1918 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., stands a slender yet prominent green tower tipped by a red sphere. Despite its visual prominence and its local cultural importance through the '70s, the Forest Theater has experienced a tumultuous history since its inception 75 years ago in 1949. The venue has sat empty since 2009.
Facing this difficult past, Forest Forward obtained the property in 2017 and has worked since then to launch renovations on the property, which became a reality last week.
“Today’s groundbreaking at the Forest Theater symbolizes community partnership and collaboration at its very best – because when we come together to work toward a common vision, we are unstoppable,” said Elizabeth Wattley, president and CEO of Forest Forward, at the groundbreaking, according to a news release.
The packed event saw 700 locals turn out and emphatically support the important step in the project. The redevelopment plan drew mostly positive reactions when it was publicly announced in 2021.
Familiar faces who attended the groundbreaking included Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, local U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett and State Senator Royce West.
Many notable performers have appeared at the venue over the years, including Sidney Poitier, Tina Turner and Prince. Forest Theater was also owned for a time by South Dallas local and singer Erykah Badu in 2003, who converted it into an arts center and renamed it the “Black Forest Theater.”
Renovations to Forest Theater will encompass significant growth to the complex. Once complete, the 66,000-square-foot building will have an arts education hub, a 1,000-plus seat performance hall, a 200-seat multi-use studio theater, a recording studio and accompanying amenities including a cafe and a restaurant.
“The renovation of The Forest Theater is more than just revitalizing a historically significant structure," said Dallas City Council Member Adam Bazaldua. "Investing in and highlighting the theater’s historic significance is symbolic of the commitment of so many, to preserving South Dallas’ history while investing in new resources and assets for the community to grow.”
The neighborhood the theater resides in is set to receive a $75.215 million "infusion of resources" according to the news release (the number is a nod to the area’s Zip Code). The Forest Theater project is the first redevelopment phase of a plan to invest in the neighborhood. Other steps in the Forest Forward 75215 Capital Campaign include mixed-use housing and improvements to the Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center to focus on STEAM-based education.
“The Forest Theater is the result of a successful private-public partnership that will serve as a decisive catalyst for not only economic development and growth but arts education and much-needed affordable housing,” Crockett said. “Forest Forward’s remarkable $75 million vision – focused upon an often-forgotten community – has the potential to reimagine and bolster Sunny South Dallas, positively affecting generations to come.”
The groundbreaking on Thursday was accompanied by further good news for the project. It was announced that local billionaire Margot Perot, whose family endowed the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, has donated $1 million to the Forest Forward initiative.
Other major donors that pushed the project over the line in the last couple of years include Communities Foundation of Texas, which donated $5 million, and the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, which donated $4 million.
Construction is expected to be completed by December 2025.
Revival Effort Is Changing Students’ Lives
Renovation of Forest Theater is already paying off for kids at South Dallas’ MLK Arts Academy
The Forest Theater, once the arts and culture anchor of South Dallas, has had so many lives that it’s hard to remember all of them.
None have stuck.
Plenty of plans over the years to restore this iconic movie theater to its former glory have fizzled out.
But now dirt is being turned at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and S.M. Wright Freeway, and promises are becoming reality.
What the nonprofit Forest Forward has in store is exactly the kind of investment that South Dallas needs.
Earlier this month, officials broke ground on the renovation of the Forest Theater, kicking off a period of revitalization for this long-neglected area around Fair Park that will bring more amenities and new homes.
Tumblr media
Forest Forward succeeded in raising its initial target of $75.215 million — a nod to the area’s ZIP code.
Tumblr media
The nonprofit was able to secure money from a variety of sources, including tax credits and funds through the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
About a quarter of the funds have come from foundations and individuals, said Elizabeth Wattley, president of Forest Forward.
Wattley said the nonprofit has reached more than 70% of its current funding goal for the theater and is actively seeking additional funds and gifts.
We’re particularly excited about the new opportunities that the theater brings for Dallas ISD students in the neighborhood.
The renovated Forest Theater will more than double in size and feature a 1,000-seat concert hall, a 13,000-square-foot arts education center, a rooftop space and a renewed marquee that will be lighted for the first time in more than 50 years, Wattley said.
Already, the revival effort has had a positive effect on the neighboring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy.
Formerly known as the Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center, this was once a struggling campus.
The renovation plans for the Forest Theater carved a path for Dallas ISD to turn the school into an arts magnet.
The goal is to help students at the MLK Arts Academy get into DISD’s much-celebrated Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
This year, the arts academy graduated its first eighth-grade class of 24 students, with five of them admitted to Booker T., said MLK principal Romikianta Sneed.
Tumblr media
Wattley said $20 million from Forest Forward is going toward improvements at MLK Arts Academy.
That is expected to add 25,000 square feet in new construction and other improvements to the school.
Sneed, the principal, said the Forest Theater will transform lives. Plans for the area also include a mixed-income housing development and the redevelopment of S.M. Wright Freeway into a boulevard to make the neighborhood walkable.
The Forest Theater and its champions are showing this city just how bright South Dallas shines in the spotlight.
