The Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Mice Control Methods in Your Home

Mice can be found on every continent on the planet except in Antarctica. Mice do more than just cause confusion within your home. They carry some dangerous diseases and cause sicknesses as well. Do you have mice in your home? It is important that you deal with them quickly, before they get out of hand and out of control. Some methods work better than others. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of using mice control methods in your home.
Mice Prevention is Key
Before worrying about mouse traps, glue traps, poisons and pussycats, look for loopholes into your home. Mice are small creatures and can fit into spaces no bigger than a pencil eraser. Ensure that you cover every crack, hole or small space in your home.
If steel wool cannot do the job, resort to caulking. Do not use foam. Mice can chew through it. Mice are in your home mainly because of food. Make it hard for them by doing your dishes every night. Sugar, flour and other stable foods that they can easily chew through should be kept in plastic containers. Preventing more mice from gaining access into your house is a good step in the right direction. Once you can keep them out, it is easier to deal with the ones on the inside.
Get a Cat To Catch Mice
Cats are legendary for catching mice. There is no other animal on the planet that does a better job. Cats give you a great option of catching mice without resorting to poisons, chemicals or endangering the family pet. However, you will have to keep an eye on your cat. Some of them dump mice in hidden places. You may never find these pests until they start to work up a stench. In addition, ensure that you get a cat that only kills mice and not eat them. When a cat eats a mouse, it can make a mess with hair and bones strewing it all over the carpet. This can leave your cat sick.
Poisons For Mice
Poisons are deadly and effective for mice. However, you have to worry about the risks that they pose to the children or pet. You have to be cautious when you use this method even if you do not have kids or pets to worry about. Besides, mice eat the poison and move on. They can end up dying in a small crack in the wall, that you might almost find impossible to reach even when you realize that the mice is smelly and decaying. Hire a professional.
Electric Traps
Electric traps make a lot of sense. They do not kill mice in a cold-blooded way. They offer them a rapid and almost painless death. Once you place bait, insert batteries in the electric trap and switch it on. When a mouse catches a whiff of the food, it shows up, enters the trap and gets electrocuted. It gets electrocuted every few seconds until you dispose of the rodent. An electric trap can be used several times and they are relatively safe for children and domestic animals.
