Lovelorn Peter Walsh, shell-shocked Septimus, alienated Rezia, wild Susan, conservative Richard, ridiculously faithful Miss Kilman, young Elizabeth, Coriolanian Lady Bruton, conformist Sir Bradshaw, and so many more, brought together into one chaotic, sometimes confused and very lifelike assemblage, as Mrs Clarissa Dalloway prepares frantically for her party that she feels obliged to give because she simply must bring together people, not because she had to show off, not because she had to preserve her social stature, but because...
...both were quite wrong. What she liked was simply life.
Woolf takes you into the human hearts of her characters and you see London and its landscape through their eyes, smell it and feel it through their senses, and you feel oh so close to these slices of humanity.

I spoke a little too soon in my last post. I had said that Mr. Dalloway hasn’t even appeared in the book so far, and next thing I know he appears on the very next page. In this last chunk I read, I was given the chance to get to know Richard Dalloway and Clarissa’s daughter, Elizabeth. Here is what I found to be the most interesting about the two:
Richard is a politician, who did not make it to be a Cabinet member. After being with Hugh Whitbread, a fellow conservative, he is disgusted by his arrogance and decides to immediately run to his wife. He buys her flowers, wants to tell her he loves her, but can’t. For some reason he can’t find it in himself to tell his own wife that he loves her. 
Elizabeth seems to be pretty passive. Unlike most other characters in the book, the reader does not have much insight into her internal thoughts. However, I have found that she is adored by her parents and Miss Kilman. Miss Kilman seems to be Elizabeth’s partner, which pisses Mrs. Dalloway off. Clarissa and Miss Kilman are opposite people. While Clarissa is wealthy, conservative, and privileged, Miss Kilman is quite the opposite. Although Elizabeth is loved dearly by her mother, he relations with Miss Kilman seems to put a rift between the two. 
I enjoyed getting to know Mrs. Dalloway’s family. Strangely enough, it took over 100 pages for the reader to really get to know the two. I feel like Clarissa loves her family, but almost values other relationships more, specifically the ones she had in the past. While her family gives her comfort and status, Peter Walsh and Sally Seton give her adventure and more pure emotions. Sometimes the most valuable relationships are not the ones that come easily, and I think that Clarissa is struggling facing the decisions she has made in the past.

Reading Mrs Dalloway and I just read a few pages that had some great quotes. I’m gonna share them here (partly because I may need them for my 20th Century Litrerature essay and also partly because I really fucking like them).

After that, how unbelievable death was! - that it must end; and no one in the whole world would know how she had loved it all;...’

Futsal khởi nguồn từ thập niên 30 của thế kỷ XX tại Uruguay. Tuy nhiên, phải đến năm 1965, Liên đoàn Futsal thế giới mới ra đời để chuẩn hóa luật lệ. Năm 1989, FIFA tiếp quản futsal và công nhận đây là môn bóng đá trong nhà, thông qua việc ban hành các luật lệ và tổ chức giải đấu.
Việc có 5 đại diện châu Á góp mặt ở vòng 16 đội FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 cho thấy xu thế phát triển hiện tại của môn bóng đá trong nhà trên thế giới. Các nước châu Á đầu tư nhiều cho futsal hơn Anh, Đức hay vài nền bóng đá mạnh khác trên thế giới.
Sức hút và lợi nhuận
Nếu nhìn vào 2 bảng xếp hạng futsal và bóng đá 11 người thế giới lúc này, chúng ta có thể thấy sự khác biệt lớn đến từ Anh, Đức và Pháp. Cả ba nền bóng đá kể trên đều mạnh ở sân chơi 11 người, nhưng có thứ hạng thấp trong futsal.
Anh đứng thứ 60 trên bảng xếp hạng (BXH) futsal (dựa theo hệ số elo), Đức xếp thứ 63, trong khi Pháp xếp thứ 24. Ở châu Á, nền bóng đá mạnh ở sân chơi 11 người như Hàn Quốc xếp thứ 73, kém xa Việt Nam hay Thái Lan.
Lý giải về vấn đề này, Max Kilman, trung vệ đang khoác áo Wolverhampton, cho biết người Anh vốn không chuộng chơi futsal. "Ở Tây Ban Nha, Bồ Đào Nha hay Brazil, người ta chơi futsal từ lúc 5 hay 6 tuổi", Kilman nói. "Đến năm 14 hay 15 tuổi, họ có thể lựa chọn tiếp tục theo futsal hay gắn bó với bóng đá 11 người. Ở Anh, mọi thứ khác nhiều".
Trung vệ Kilman là trường hợp hiếm hoi thăng tiến trong môi trường bóng đá Anh nhờ chơi futsal từ nhỏ. Kilman được xem là trung vệ giàu tiềm năng của bóng đá xứ sương mù bởi nền tảng kỹ thuật tốt nhờ chơi futsal từ bé. Kilman chơi 25 trận cho tuyển futsal Anh trước khi nghỉ hẳn để tập trung cho bóng đá 11 người.
Kilman nằm trong số ít cầu thủ trưởng thành từ các lò đào tạo của Anh, có thời gian gắn bó lâu với futsal và xem nó như môn bổ trợ cho bóng đá 11 người. Sự tiến bộ của cầu thủ sinh năm 1997 phản ánh xu thế mới, khi nhiều nền bóng đá ở châu Âu bắt đầu chú trọng đến futsal hơn.
Từ năm 2014, Liên đoàn Bóng đá Anh (FA) đã lập đề án phát triển futsal. Tuy nhiên, đa phần người hâm mộ Anh vẫn thích xem bóng đá 11 người hơn, dẫn đến việc FA cắt giảm đầu tư cho futsal khi gặp khó khăn.

Tháng 9/2020, FA thông báo cắt giảm phần lớn ngân sách đầu tư cho các đội tuyển futsal nam và nữ Anh, do hệ quả từ đại dịch COVID-19. Tổ chức này thừa nhận họ phải tập trung ưu tiên cho các dự án quan trọng khác ở sân chơi 11 người.
Trong cuộc khảo sát được Dropbox thực hiện vào tháng 7/2018, tỷ suất người xem futsal qua truyền hình trên thế giới chỉ tập trung ở 4 giải đấu tại Brazil, Italy, Nga và Tây Ban Nha. Đây cũng là 4 quốc gia có nền futsal mạnh hàng đầu thế giới.
Bên ngoài 4 quốc gia kể trên, hơn 50 CLB futsal chuyên nghiệp rải rác tại châu Mỹ, châu Á hay châu Âu. Nhiều đội futsal chuyên nghiệp chủ yếu sống dựa vào nguồn tiền từ các ông chủ.
Ferrao, một trong những cầu thủ futsal hay nhất thế giới hiện tại, có khoảng 276.000 người theo dõi trên trang cá nhân. Ricardinho, siêu sao futsal thế giới đương đại, nhận hơn 1 triệu euro trong 3 năm khoác áo ACCS, đại diện mới nổi của bóng đá trong nhà châu Âu.
Chủ tịch ACCS Sami Sellami tiết lộ ngân sách hoạt động trung bình một năm của CLB rơi vào khoảng 500.000 euro. ACCS nổi lên trong một năm trở lại đây với tư cách "đại gia" của futsal châu Âu.
Châu Á chuộng futsal
Việc FIFA điều chỉnh số suất tham dự Futsal World Cup ở các châu lục trong hơn thập niên qua phản ánh xu thế phát triển của môn bóng đá trong nhà này trên toàn thế giới.
Tại Đức, CLB futsal đầu tiên dự giải vô địch châu Âu vào năm 2006. Tuy nhiên, LĐBĐ Đức (DFB) chỉ thực sự nghiêm túc với việc phát triển môn bóng đá trong từ năm 2015, với đề án "Futsal Masterplan".
Tuyển futsal Đức đá trận quốc tế đầu tiên vào tháng 10/2016, với đối thủ là tuyển Anh. Tuyển futsal Đức đứng thứ 63 trên bảng xếp hạng thế giới. Tương tự ở Pháp, futsal cũng chỉ phổ biến hơn trong vài năm trở lại đây.
Tuyển futsal Pháp có trận đấu quốc tế đầu tiên từ năm 1997, nhưng chưa từng tham dự kỳ World Cup hay Euro nào, ngoại trừ lần dự Euro 2018 và bị loại ngay từ vòng bảng.
Năm 2018, Futsal World Cup có 16 đội tham dự với 6 suất dành cho các đại diện từ châu Âu, 3 từ Nam Mỹ, 2 từ châu Phi, 2 từ Bắc Trung Mỹ, 2 từ châu Á và 1 từ châu Đại Dương.
Khi FIFA nâng số đội dự Futsal World Cup lên 24, số suất dành cho các đại diện từ châu Á đã tăng lên 5. Việc cả 5 đại diện châu Á vào vòng 16 đội World Cup 2021 cho thấy đà thăng tiến của futsal châu Á.
Giải vô địch futsal châu Á cấp ĐTQG lần đầu diễn ra vào năm 1999, chỉ 3 năm sau khi giải Futsal vô địch châu Âu ra đời.
Iran, Nhật Bản, Thái Lan hay Uzbekistan là những nước có phong trào futsal mạnh và đã thành lập giải chuyên nghiệp từ nhiều năm. Nhiều quốc gia châu Á coi futsal là nội dung họ có thể cạnh tranh sòng phẳng với các đội tuyển đến từ Nam Mỹ hay châu Âu.
Hàn Quốc có nền bóng đá mạnh ở sân chơi 11 người. Họ từng vào đến chung kết AFC futsal Cup lần đầu tiên năm 1999. Tuy nhiên, trong vòng thập niên trở lại đây, futsal Hàn Quốc không có sự phát triển lớn do thiếu sự đầu tư. Tuyển futsal Hàn Quốc chưa bao giờ dự World Cup.
Futsal sẽ phổ biến hơn?
Với việc bóng đá 11 người bắt đầu đề cao kỹ năng xử lý bóng trong phạm vi hẹp lúc này, nhiều quốc gia như Đức, Pháp hay Hàn Quốc bắt đầu chú trọng phát triển futsal.
Các LĐBĐ ở những quốc gia này coi futsal là môn bổ trợ quan trọng cho sân chơi 11 người và sẵn sàng đầu tư khiến bóng đá trong nhà trở nên phổ biến hơn.
Tháng 9/2021, mùa giải Futsal Bundesliga đầu tiên của Đức khởi tranh. Đây là giải đấu futsal VĐQG chuyên nghiệp đầu tiên được DFB tổ chức, với hình thức lên-xuống hạng như Bundesliga.
Ông Peter Frymuth, phó Chủ tịch DFB nói: "Chúng tôi muốn futsal phổ biến hơn tại Đức, và việc ra đời giải VĐQG là chuyên nghiệp cực kỳ quan trọng cho sự phát triển của bộ môn này".
Tại Pháp, LĐBĐ nước này đang xây dựng trung tâm huấn luyện futsal tại Lyon, với tham vọng xây dựng ĐTQG đủ khả năng cạnh tranh ở Euro hay World Cup.

Chia sẻ với Zing, anh Dongjin Lee, thủ môn đang chơi tại giải VĐQG futsal Hàn Quốc, khẳng định giới trẻ nước này đang quan tâm hơn đến môn bóng đá trong này.
"So với khoảng thời gian 5 năm trước, futsal giờ phổ biến hơn tại Hàn Quốc", anh Lee nói. "Tuy nhiên, futsal Hàn Quốc còn nhiều việc phải làm để cạnh tranh với Nhật Bản, Iran hay thậm chí là Thái Lan, Việt Nam. Khi có nhiều người chơi và quan tâm hơn, tôi trông chờ sự đầu tư nhiều hơn từ KFA".
Nếu đứng độc lập, futsal rõ ràng không thể cạnh tranh với bóng đá 11 người về sức hút, tính quy mô cũng như sự chuyên nghiệp. Tuy nhiên, với sự phát triển của bóng đá và xã hội hiện đại, futsal đang dần trở thành một thành tố quan trọng hơn.

No sé porqué, pero los personajes decadentes son mis favoritos. En Mrs Dalloway tenemos, por un lado, a Septimus, un personaje abatido por la guerra; por el otro a Peter Walsh, un hombre que carga a sus espaldas el fantasma del fracaso. Sin embargo, en mi opinión, el personaje que complementa la atmósfera deprimente de la novela es la Srta Kilman, la marginal, la segundona, la fea. Que tenga usted un excelente inicio de semana. #MiVeranoconVirgina

Back to Mrs. Dalloway
So, I mapped the routes of the characters in Mrs. Dalloway and realized that their paths around London said quite a bit about each of them. Given the fact that my essay focuses on Elizabeth, I thought I’d put down here a few stray observations that probably won’t make it into my essay.  -They all wander within a relatively small spatial area. Maybe they don’t develop as much as we think in the span of a day. - The married couples walk the same amount. Rezia and Septimus (represented by the blue line) literally have the same path, except for the fact that Rezia walks a few more steps in the park when she gets fed up with Septimus’ PTSD. Mr & Mrs Dalloway (the black and red lines, respectively) although taking different routes, walk the same distance, and pretty much have the same route extremities.  -Peter (the pink line), who’s probably the most indecisive character of the novel, walks the most, and intersects routes with every other character except for Mrs. Kilman (Clarissa’s house, not withstanding). His path is also the most circular-much like his thought/decision making process. Though he has many changes of heart, he eventually ends up precisely back where he started.  -Perhaps Mrs Kilman (the yellow line) has a route that differs from Peter the most because of the characters, she’s least like him - she’s not adventurous, has had no love interests, and abhors change. For the character who eats the most (remember that scene where she’s just chowing down on the eclairs and grosses Elizabeth out?) she certainly does the least amount of exercise - maybe that’s something Woolf slipped in there to make her seem even more hypocritical- despite her devout religion, she’s exhibited a number of the 7 deadly sins, ie. gluttony, sloth, envy, greed, etc. etc. 
-Elizabeth (the green line) takes the omnibus, but not for very far. Trust me, that route is totally walkable. She didn’t really need to take a bus to escape Mrs. Kilman, but I guess the bus was necessary for the symbolism (kudos to Virginia Woolf for slipping that in there and giving me an essay topic)!

Mrs Dalloway, Simmel, Water, Crowds
Mrs Dalloway contains an abundance of water imagery (I started out the novel underlining it all, but it very quickly grew to be too much). This imagery serves a number of functions, but I will discuss it in terms of crowds. Reading Mrs Dalloway right after Simmel’s The Metropolis and Modern Life, I at first drew connections between the two. Simmel says;
”There is perhaps no psychic phenomenon which is so unconditionally served to the city as the blasé outlook. It is at first the consequence of those rapidly shifting stimulations of the nerves which are thrown together in all their contrasts and from which it seems to us the intensification of metropolitan intellectuality seems to be derived…Just as an immoderately sensuous life makes one blasé because it stimulates the nerves to their utmost reactivity until they finally con no longer produce any reaction at all, so, less harmful stimuli, through the rapidity and the contradictoriness of their shifts, force the nerves to make such violent responses, tear them about so brutally that they exhaust the last reserves of strength and, remaining in the same milieu, do not have time for her reserves to form.”
That is cities, and especially crowds, are so sensorily overwhelming that one must distance oneself from other members of the crowd as a form of self-preservation.
Certainly Mrs. Dalloway gives evidence of the overwhelming nature of crowds; of particular note there is a scene with Miss Kilman;  
“She got up, blundered off among the little tables, rocking slightly from side to side, and somebody came after her with her petticoat, and she lost her way, and was hemmed in by trunks specially prepared for taking to India; next got among the accouchement sets, and baby linen; through all the commodities of the world, perishable and permanent, hams, drugs, flowers, stationery, variously smelling, now sweet, now sour she lurched; saw herself thus lurching with her hat askew, very red in the face, full length in a looking-glass; and at last came out into the street” (201-2)
The attempt to process such a variety of stimuli leaves Miss Kilman discombobulated and overcome.
One scene with Peter Walsh establishes a strong link between these overwhelming crowds and the novel’s pervasive water imagery;
“cabs were rushing round the corner, like water round the piers of a bridge…The cold stream of visual impressions failed him now as if the eye were a cup that overflowed and let the rest run down its china walls unrecorded” (250)
Both these quotations seem to meld perfectly with Simmel’s description of the sensory slap in the face that is metropolitan life, and the response to that which is to alienate oneself. Furthermore comparisons between the crowd and water flowing, or waves, is in itself a form of alienation because it erases the individuality of members of the crowd, and likens their totality (the crowd) with an inanimate though powerful phenomenon of nature.
However, this interpretation did not fit exactly upon further reflection. Firstly the water-imagery of the novel is often positive. Setting the tone on the first page is; “What a plunge!…How fresh, how calm…like the flap of a wave; the kiss of a wave” (3). Elizabeth on the omnibus is like “the figure-head of a ship” (206), calmly cutting through the city. Furthermore there is the structure of the novel itself, which ebbs and flows between characters’ streams-of-consciousness without interruption (there are not even chapters). The novel itself seems to flow through the inner workings of the crowd, which necessitates that each individual is, in fact, an individual with internality and thoughts and feelings, and which is essentially humanizing.
In conclusion I do not have a simple answer, though I would argue perhaps this is the novel’s intent. Early on Mrs Dalloway thinks, “She had a perpetual sense, as she watched the taxi cabs, of being out, far out to sea and alone” on page 11 then shortly thereafter on page 12 “somehow in the streets of London, on the ebb and flow of things, here, there, she survived…she being part, she was positive, of the trees at home…part of people she had never met…being laid out like a mist between the people she new best”. I think this demonstrates most clearly that the function of water-imagery, in relation to crowds and otherwise, is fluid and intentionally not associated with a single, coherent, idea.

Especially in the 4th minute of the second half, he showed a fighting spirit with aggressive breakthrough and pressure. Even when defending, he came down to the rear and pressed the opponent. So in the 42nd minute of the second half he was substituted out for Hubeng Neves.
Home team Southampton played in a 4-4-2 formation. Adams and Armstrong went two-top, with Ward Prowse and Romeu in midfield and Redmund and Elionush on the flanks. Kyle Walker Peters and Libramento are full-backs, while Bednarek and Salisu are centre-backs. The goal was kept by McCarthy.
Wolverhampton played against Southampton in a 3-4-3 formation. As Hwang Hee-chan worked with Jimenez and Podense as a three-top, Dendonker and Moutinho were placed in the midfield. With Semedo and Marsau playing as both wing-backs, Kilman, Cody and Sysuga in the three-back, and José Saga in the goal.
In the case of Wolverhampton, their performances this season have been good, but they rarely hit zero. The only match to win was Watford, where Hwang Hee-chan scored his debut goal in his debut match. During the 6th round of the Premier League, all players except Hwang Hee-chan were silent.
Wolverhampton had more decisive chances, but Southampton's attack was sharper. In the case of Wolverhampton, the goalkeeper's saves stood out.
Jimenez had a chance in the 12th minute of the first half, but it was blocked by the defensive wall, and after taking the ball from the defensive line in the 28th minute of the first half, Jimenez tried to break through but missed it. It was a particularly disappointing scene with Hwang Hee-chan on the other side.
Southampton also had a chance. In the 11th minute of the second half, he tried to take the lead with a series of shots, but was blocked by goalkeeper Joshua Sasa's save and failed to score.
Then, in the 15th minute of the second half, Wolverhampton opened the scoring. Raul Jimenez, the team's main gun, was able to score goals after a long time. It was the first goal scored in nine Premier League matches. In the 15th minute of the second half, Jimenez received the ball from the left flank in a counter-attacking situation, and then shook the Southampton net with a breakout followed by a finish.
