High Gain Amp Sim Comparison - Archetype Plini & Nolly vs. free Amped Roots
It's amazing how good amp sims are getting these days! Here's a comparison of high gain amp simulation plugins from Neural DSP Archetype Plini, Neural DSP Archetype Nolly  & ML Sound Lab Amped Roots (free 5034 Fluff). In this video you can hear the plugins once in a mix and then as an isolated guitar track. It also shows the graphical user interfaces, which are very clear and easy to use. I'll put timestamps in the comment section for fast access to each section - this helps for a back-to-back comparison. I used one amp and the included IRs of each plugin. A tubescreamer set to my taste is in front of the presets as the only pre effect. The guitar tones are dry; no effects such as delay or reverb. Every pass uses an identical DI track of the guitar. Which one do you like the best? Let me know in the comments! My guitar is a 7 string Musicman JP7 modified with DiMarzio Illuminator replacement pickups. The featured song is The Rift III: Use Tactics https://youtu.be/xdJwuPo8N0w from the latest EP release by my band Atlas Cube. I picked a section that showcases a variety of lead riffing stuff, from fast palm muting techniques to open powerchords.
