Mayblade Day 3: Eyes

"Eyes are the windows to the soul" — after all, they can easily express and convey emotion. Interestingly, Metal Fight Beyblade plays a lot with this theme.

Numerous characters wear glasses, in particular the main masterminds in each season: Daidoji, Ziggurat, and even Pluto.

Daidoji's glasses often reflect light and act like a mask, a barrier between him and others. They serve as a way for him to hide his true nature, complementing his more civilized and polite persona. Proof of this is seen when he reveals his true power to Phoenix in their battle, he takes off his glasses.

Ziggurat wears orange-tinted glasses, which stand out as the only touch of color in his otherwise grey design. Coincidentally, this is the same color as his eyes (albeit a little lighter). His glasses serve a similar purpose to Daidoji’s, though more toned down. Ziggurat is less restrained than Daidoji; he hides less of his true nature, as seen when he explains his intentions to Ryuga or when he laughs like a madman on camera.

In Pluto's case, the goggles he wears are more like a mask, concealing both his eyes and much of his face. This gives him a more ominous appearance and fits with his role as the hidden force behind both the Dark Nebula and Hades Inc. When Nemesis is about to be completed, Pluto removes his glasses, he no longer needs to stay hidden. At this moment, we fully see not just his face but also the content of his heart, as he elaborates on his twisted philosophy.

Jack is also worth mentioning. His mask hides only one of his eyes, possibly symbolizing how he lost a part of himself through the Arrangement System. When he returns to normal, he discards the mask. It’s fitting, considering the tail feathers of peacocks look like they have eyes — which ties into the legend behind their creation. Symbolically, Jack seems to take the "soul" of his opponent to give his art life; Klaus’s catatonic state with blank black eyes supports this. In episode 93, Ryuga injures Ziggurat very close to his eye, and in that same episode, Befall becomes the "eye of the peacock."

Lastly, King Hades and Cycnus share similar eye designs, both lack pupils. This design choice helps emphasize their inhuman and villainous nature. Their eyes resemble Nemesis’s own: glowing red and pupil-less, appearing empty, but in a far more menacing and powerful way.

MFB really uses the eyes to signify which characters have lost their souls, are hiding their true nature, or lack humanity.

I decided to make madoka an earth pony to show that she doesn't need magic or wings to be capable of doing wonders and also decided to make hikaru half siren half pony as it's the idea that i liked the most. Pluto is corrupted almost the same way as Stygian but in his case it's intentional.

Mayblade Day 16: Purple

Purple is a color that can symbolize many things: power, ambition, royalty and nobility, mystery, and even spirituality.

It is interesting to note that in every season, a major villain has a purple aura and beast.

Considering Ryuga, Damian, Rago, and Kira are all very arrogant and powerful bladers, this is quite fitting.

Note that all three top members of the Hades cult—Rago, Pluto, and Daidoji—were closely tied to this color: Daidoji had his purple suit, Rago’s clothes were predominantly purple, and Pluto had purple hair.

Purple is also linked to religion and the Catholic Church, as it is a color worn by cardinals. Furthermore, purple has often been associated with villains, darkness, and evil, since it is a darker color, so it is fitting that the servants of Nemesis are associated with this color.

We also saw that Daidoji is an ambitious person who lives in a rather luxurious way. So purple fits him very well, since it was an expensive color in antiquity and the medieval era, and is thus tied to luxury.

Finally, I would also mention Tsubasa and Dynamis, whose beys are purple. Zeus/Jupiter is the king of the gods, and the eagle is his symbolic animal. Considering the color is linked to royalty and power as well, it makes a lot of sense.
