The  Outdoor Education Center IHS Land Lab
Tulip Trail
Independence, OH 44131
The Independence Local Schools’ Outdoor Education Center in Independence, OH, was once a Nike missile base and now more than 50 acres of protected land in the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation area, the land has been restored to its former unspoiled condition.  All forms of native wildlife, plants and animals are given an opportunity to redevelop to their maximum vitality in an environment with minimal human disturbance, according to Dr. Tien Wei Yang, an ecologist who assisted in the early planning of the center, which opened in 1970.
The center is not just a bird sanctuary, a wildlife refuge, an arboretum or a live museum, Yang explained.  More than that, it is a place where young and old, can learn to make accurate observations of this redevelopment and this resurgence of life, to record and to interpret these observations.  Managed by the students of the Biology Society at Independence High School -- and more affectionately known as the land lab -- this outdoor nature classroom and wilderness tract has been under the direction of only two advisers in its lifetime.
Founder William Taylor and current adviser Scott Maretka, who teaches biology at the high school, both share the same vision of exposing students to the outdoors and learning the importance of taking care of their natural environment.  The facilities are used throughout the school year not only by Maretka’s science classes, but by other area school groups. Maretka and his Biology Society students host various nature activities and field trips for students as young as preschool, which he said gave him the idea of creating an outdoor education class for his high school students.
Maretka said the land lab impacts the community around it by providing the right habitat for a wide diversity of living organisms.  The small pond is a breeding pool for the spotted salamander.  Every student that comes through Independence Schools has an opportunity to experience outdoor education at the land lab, according to Superintendent Ben Hegedish.  This land acquired from the federal government in the late 1960s has been a treasure to the Independence Local Schools for generations. Hegedish understands the fierce passion to protect the land lab and he shares this passion, too.
The Outdoor Education Center (OEC 1 Site), a Independence Board of Education building, is also an archaeological site of prehistoric people of the Whittlesey culture and earlier. It is located in Independence, Ohio, in a wooden nature preserve along the Cuyahoga River. Animal bones, Madison point stone tools, and Tuttle Hill decorated pottery sherds were attributed to the Whittlesey culture. The excavated items were found over a dispersed area in 1999 by a group led by Mark Kollecker, Supervisor of Archaeology Field Programs of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. From the several excavations, the village sat on two to four acres.
Kollecker led another Archaeology Field Experience program group in April and May 2000 and found several post molds and nine cooking and storage pits of prehistoric people. A Leimbach cord-marked vessel from about 500 B.C. is believed to be from the Early Woodland period, long before the Whittlesey culture would have lived at the site.[11] Brian G. Redmond led another group during the summer, where more post molds, storage pits, and trash pits were found. One of the storage pits was a large hold for maize 5.4 by 5.1 ft, diameter and depth, respectively. They also found cooking features, many stone tools and pottery, and a partially subterranean sweat lodge.  Animals butchered at the site include small game animals, raccoon, wild turkey, elk and deer. They fished for freshwater mollusk and fish in the Cuyahoga River. Two artifacts may have been used for ceremonial purposes. One was an engrave slate gorget, the other is the skull of dog, which had been drilled with 14 symmetrically-placed holes, cut and ground.

Learn How Compression Socks for Women Can Help with Nocturia
As a woman, your body undergoes different changes as you age. If you have passed through the reproductive age, you may have developed some changes, too, including waking up often to urinate at night and fighting different urinary and pelvic floor health issues. However, you can deal with all the symptoms at home with a pair of Compression Socks for Women.
What are Compression Socks?
These are specially designed socks that help to squeeze your legs and feet and prevent blood from accumulating in them. For pregnant women, people who spend most of their time sitting, for example, long-distance drivers and pilots, or those who stand most of their time, like doctors, nurses, and teachers, it is common to have swollen and painful legs. In this case, compression socks come in handy and help to prevent blood clotting and any pain that may accompany it.
Tumblr media
Stop Managing and Start Treating Compression Socks
Compression stockings are for everyone who has issues with blood pooling in their legs and feet. When the blood pools during the day, it means more urine production when one settles, which could bring along other issues such as Overactive Bladder and bladder leaks. Preventing all these complications boils down to preventing the accumulation of excess fluid in the lower legs using compression stockings.
These specially designed stockings are recommended by:

Get Compression Socks Today for Nocturia
If you wake up more than once to urinate at night, you need compression stockings. You can wear them during the day to prevent fluid accumulation in the legs. This will then prevent the overproduction of urine at night, minimizing the need to pee at night.
Where to get Compression Socks
You can order compression stockings in the comfort of your office or home chair. Visit the official Elitone site to learn. You can place your order, too, while at it.

Mitch Patel’s Journey: From Passion to Success in the Hospitality Industry
Over twenty-five years ago, Mitch Patel followed his heart and founded Vision Hospitality Group (VHG) in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This choice marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that has led to the establishment of a company that now boasts ownership of 43 hotels across nine states. Patel recently shared his story of passion and achievement with Asian Hospitality’s Leadership Series.
Before founding VHG in 1997, Patel was introduced to the intricacies of the hotel business during his early years. Today, VHG has not only expanded its existing portfolio but also has an impressive pipeline comprising 16 hotels. The company’s collection encompasses diverse brands, including the boutique Kinley brand, The Edwin Hotel in Chattanooga (a part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection), The Grady Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky (part of Small Luxury Hotels), and others like Element by Westin, DoubleTree by Hilton, Embassy Suites by Hilton, Hyatt House, Residence Inn by Marriott, and more.
In the midst of a pandemic-eased environment, Patel and a gathering of VHG employees and local supporters celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary. During the event, Patel emphasized that this milestone was not only a time for reflecting on the past but also for envisioning the future.
“Our journey over these past 25 years has been remarkable,” stated Patel. “However, our path is not yet complete. Even in the face of an unprecedented crisis within our industry, I’ve learned never to underestimate the American spirit.”
This spirit was instilled in Patel’s life from the beginning, traced back to his family’s arrival in the United States — a shared narrative with many Asian American hoteliers.
A Path Shaped by Determination
Patel’s introduction to the industry mirrors that of many Asian American hoteliers. He began his journey at a motel his parents leased in Stockton, California, where he actively participated in various roles from an early age. Later, the family transitioned to owning a larger Scottish Inn in Cleveland, Tennessee. Patel’s involvement persisted throughout his school years, spanning from cleaning rooms and assisting at the front desk to managing laundry and handling bank deposits.
However, despite his immersion in the family business, Patel initially pursued a different path. He embarked on a career in engineering, aiming to honor the sacrifice his parents made by seeking a “professional” occupation. Yet, he realized engineering was not where his passion lay.
“My creativity and people-oriented nature didn’t find an outlet in engineering,” Patel shared. “I couldn’t turn those highway lines from yellow and white to purple. There’s a litmus test for knowing you’re in the right industry — if you don’t find your trade journal interesting, that’s a red flag.”
Returning to His Roots
After realizing engineering wasn’t his calling, Patel chose to return to the family business. Despite lacking experience, Patel pooled his savings of $3,000 from his engineering work to venture into hotel ownership. He became a general contractor for his first hotel project, a Homewood Suites, partnering with others who were impressed by his engineering background.
Although the initial occupancy was just 10 percent, Patel’s determination led to significant improvements, and within 18 months, the hotel became the market’s leader. It was during this journey that Patel discovered his true passion for the industry.
Continued Expansion and Growth
Under Patel’s leadership, VHG has witnessed consistent expansion, a journey that is far from over. Groundbreaking activities have begun for a seven-story Embassy Suites in Chattanooga, featuring 184 suites, rooftop and street-level bars, and a coffee area in an open lobby, all developed at a cost of $54 million.
The company’s pipeline remains active, with 16 hotels under development, representing around $500 million in new construction. Patel emphasized that VHG’s growth is built upon its people and culture. As a unique industry that combines real estate with service, the hotel industry’s success hinges on maintaining a strong focus on culture and employee satisfaction.
Looking ahead, Patel is guided by a quote from Vince Lombardi, the legendary pro football coach: “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.” Patel’s aspiration is to lead not just by crossing the goal line himself but by taking as many team members as possible across with him.
“I’ve scored many touchdowns over the past 26 years,” Patel reflected. “But my focus for the next 20 years is on how many people I can help cross that goal line alongside me — that’s the legacy I aim to build.” Source: https://www.asianhospitality.com/vision-hospitality-groups-mitch-patel-finds-his-passion/

Navigating Business Demands with Temporary Staffing Solutions
Tumblr media
In today's rapidly changing business landscape, organizations often face fluctuating demands that require a flexible workforce to meet their needs effectively. Temporary staffing solutions have emerged as a valuable resource for businesses seeking to navigate these demands efficiently. This article explores the concept of temporary staff services in Cleveland and how they can provide a solution to businesses in managing their workforce requirements.
Understanding Temporary Staffing Solutions
Temporary staffing solutions involve hiring employees on a short-term basis to fulfill specific roles within an organization. These temporary employees, also known as contingent workers or temps, are usually employed through a staffing agency and are assigned to different companies based on their skills and experience. The purpose of temporary staffing solutions is to provide businesses with flexibility in managing their workforce, particularly during peak periods, special projects, or employee absences.
Benefits of Temporary Staffing Solutions
Flexibility: Temporary staffing solutions enable businesses to adjust their workforce size according to the demand fluctuations they experience. This flexibility allows companies to scale up or down quickly, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
Cost-Effectiveness: By hiring temporary staff, businesses can avoid the costs associated with recruiting, training, and onboarding full-time employees. They also have the advantage of not being responsible for providing benefits and handling payroll taxes for temporary workers.
Specialized Skills: Temporary staffing agencies often have a pool of candidates with specialized skills and expertise, allowing businesses to access talent that may not be available internally. This can be particularly beneficial for specific projects or tasks requiring niche knowledge.
Reduced Hiring Risks: Utilizing temporary staffing solutions allows businesses to evaluate potential candidates before making long-term commitments. This minimizes the risks associated with hiring the wrong person for a permanent role.
Temporary Staffing Solutions in Cleveland

Choosing the Right Temporary Staffing Agency
1. Evaluating Industry Expertise
When selecting a temporary staffing agency, it is crucial to assess their knowledge and experience in your industry. Look for agencies that have a proven track record of providing staffing solutions to businesses similar to yours. Their understanding of industry-specific requirements and challenges will enhance the quality of candidates they can offer.
2. Assessing Recruitment and Screening Processes
A temporary staffing agency's recruitment and screening processes are paramount in ensuring that you receive qualified and reliable temporary staff. Inquire about their methods for sourcing candidates, evaluating their skills, conducting background checks, and verifying references. A thorough screening process will help you obtain competent individuals who can contribute effectively to your business.
3. Reviewing Client Testimonials and Feedback
To gauge the reputation and reliability of a temporary staffing agency, consider reviewing client testimonials and feedback. Check online platforms and request references from the agency. This feedback can provide insights into the agency's professionalism, responsiveness, and overall satisfaction of its clients.
Implementing Temporary Staffing Solutions
1. Assessing Workforce Needs
Before engaging a temporary staffing agency, it is crucial to assess your workforce needs thoroughly. Identify the specific roles, skills, and time frames required for temporary staff. Clear communication of your expectations and requirements will enable the staffing agency to find suitable candidates efficiently.
2. Collaborating with the Staffing Agency
Establishing a collaborative partnership with the staffing agency is essential for successful temporary staffing solutions. Provide them comprehensive information about your company culture, values, and work environment. Regular communication and feedback will allow the agency to fine-tune its candidate selection process according to your preferences.
3. Managing Temporary Staff Effectively
Once temporary staff members are integrated into your workforce, it is vital to manage them effectively. Assign a dedicated point of contact within your organization to oversee their work, provide the necessary guidance, and address any concerns. Treating temporary staff as valuable team members fosters a positive working environment and encourage them to deliver their best.
Overcoming Challenges with Temporary Staffing
1. Maintaining Communication and Coordination
Effective communication and coordination between regular and temporary employees are essential for seamless operations. Establish channels for open communication, encourage teamwork, and provide opportunities for temporary staff to integrate with the core team. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions can help address any issues promptly.
2. Retaining Temporary Staff
Retaining temporary staff can be beneficial for future needs and cost savings. Offer a positive work experience, acknowledge their contributions, and consider providing incentives or bonuses for exceptional performance. By creating an environment where temporary staff feels valued, you can increase the likelihood of them returning for future assignments.
3. Ensuring Compliance with Employment Regulations
When utilizing temporary staffing solutions, it is vital to ensure compliance with relevant employment regulations. Familiarize yourself with legal requirements regarding wages, working hours, overtime, and health and safety standards. Partnering with a reputable staffing agency can help mitigate compliance risks, as they have a deep understanding of employment laws and regulations.
Conclusion
Temporary staffing solutions provide businesses in Cleveland with the flexibility and agility to navigate changing demands successfully. By partnering with a reliable temporary staff service, organizations can access a talented pool of temporary employees to address short-term workforce requirements. Careful selection of a staffing agency, practical implementation strategies, and proactive management of temporary staff can lead to increased productivity, reduced costs, and improved overall business performance.
In conclusion, temporary staffing solutions offer a valuable resource for businesses in Cleveland and beyond, helping them navigate the ever-changing demands of the business world. By partnering with a reputable temporary staff service, companies can access a pool of skilled and qualified individuals to meet their short-term workforce requirements. Through careful planning, effective management, and adherence to employment regulations, businesses can optimize their workforce and drive success in a dynamic marketplace.

Mechanical issues: That was the reason given for my flight delay. I was working outside of Cleveland, heading home, via a connecting flight at O'Hair. It soon became self evident that I would miss my connection in Chicago. Denise, at the gate, was wonderful, she covered all of the bases for me. If I couldn't get out of Cleveland that night they would put me up in a hotel. However, being that O'Hair is "hub," if I could get to Chicago there would be many more options for me to get home in the morning than if I stayed in Cleveland.
I was heading into a perfect storm; It was December 21st, holiday traffic already made this one of the heaviest flight days of the year. Additionally, we would soon learn that O'Hair, one of the busiest airports in the country, would have 1300 flight cancelations, the result of the impending snowstorm. It seemed quite possible that I would be spending the holiday in a hotel room, with only a light jacket, and a weather forecast featuring windchills of 30 below zero. If this was my fate, I would make the best of it. I would go to a museum, order takeout, lounge by the hotel pool, maybe write a little.
We were told that a new plane was "found" and that we were heading to Chicago. I would not make my connection, but I would indeed be at a major hub. It struck me as being odd that there was a spare plane at the Cleveland airport. Who has spare planes just laying around on the busiest travel day of the year, I wondered. I envisioned an old hanger at the edge of the tarmac. The maintenance crew would dust off a plane that had Boeing, or maybe Eastern, emblazed on the side of it. In my minds eye I saw a couple of large propellers, and an old pilot in a leather bomber jacket and goggles.
Standing in line with me was a woman with a fuzzy dog on a leash. It was the second time in as many flights that I witnessed a passenger boarding with a dog. The woman seemed to have her eyesight as she was madly texting on her phone. It could have been a braille phone I surmised, but no, I was sure that this was no Mary Ingalls I would be boarding with.
An emotional support dog, I assumed. Fair enough, we can all experience anxiety. We were possibly getting onto a World War ll era plane, heading into a snowstorm, with no connecting flight, after all. I too could have benefited from emotional support. It's not that I don't like dogs, I think most are sweet lovely animals. I just think that with dogs I'm more like ones dear aunt, who never had children, never wanted children, but still enjoys their company, albeit on a limited bases.
Though, this did feel decidedly unfair. Her emotional support of choice was a poodleish looking animal. As mentioned, I am not a dog person, I travel too much and I can't see early morning dog walking in 30 below windchill. To each his or her own when it comes to our mental health was my notion. She can have her dog, but where was my palliative? Emotional support bourbon felt right for me. I should be able to board this old relic of a plane with a stylish glass tumbler and a 750 milliliter bottle of Buffalo Trace Reserve. Additionally, I thought it was fair to assume that my emotional support "animal" would neither bark, nor have an accident in the aisle of the plane. Though, if too much emotional support was needed, I suppose it could be argued that I might.
I headed downstairs from my hotel room at 8:15am, comfortably in time for my 8:30 shuttle back to O'Hair. When I asked at the desk they said a shuttle had just left and the next one was full. To add to that, Uber drivers were either backed up or unwilling to persevere through the obscene traffic heading to the airport. I nodded my head and grimaced. Okay, what are my alternatives I asked the eleven year old girl behind the front desk. She said, hold on, and disappeared. When she returned she told me to walk out front, the hotel manager would be driving me to the airport. This I thought was going beyond the call of duty. I climbed into said managers Nissan and off we went. I never got his name, but we talked nonstop for the entire ride. He was my age, and like me divorced. He said that the lifestyle of his work was not easy on a marriage. We spoke of the changes in the hospitality industry and then of our grown children. I was dropped off at my terminal and walked briskly through the doors.
O'Hair was a mess. People everywhere, it felt chaotic. The uniformed workers were amazing. None of them appeared stressed or anxious. I was helped several times in finding my way. I wasn't 100% sure I had a seat on my new flight, nor was I sure if my new flight would even take off, that with the immanent storm looming and all of the resulting flight cancelations.
I stood on a long line at security with a n Asian couple. Between their masks and English as a second language we struggled slightly with communication . They soon realized that our line wasn't for security but instead a line for customer service. They guided me with them to where we needed to go. I was grateful.
I boarded my plane, not believing I was really heading home until we were airborne. On my flight I thought of everyone who had helped me over the previous 24 hours. Countless people went out of their way to get me where I needed to be, relieving me of much stress. Maybe I didn't have a support dog or even support bourbon, but I didn't need either. I made lovely human connections. People with vastly different backgrounds and ethnicities, took care and nurtured me through a stressful time. I would not have traded that experience for anything. A simple trip home as planned would have been easier, to be sure, but I'm not looking for easy anymore. I'm looking for experiences. My favorite experiences, I've learned, are the ones that revolve around people, around human interaction. I certainly got that in these last two days.

Important Ohio Newspaper Endorses Tim Ryan While Blasting JD Vance For Craven Political Cowardice
The Cleveland Plain Seller endorses Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan within the Ohio U.S. Senate race whereas calling out JD Vance’s craven political cowardice. The editors of The Cleveland Plain Seller wrote: Vance, in contrast, has not exhibited the astute judgment essential to return the Senate to its former standing because the world’s biggest deliberative physique. Exhibit No. 1 is Vance’s craven political cowardice in advancing Trump’s Massive Lie that Joe Biden just isn’t the legitimately elected president of the USA. That’s disqualifying in itself. However Vance hasn’t stopped there. His accusation that Biden is answerable for the fentanyl epidemic due to his immigration insurance policies is equally irresponsible – and who can overlook his preliminary response to the Russian invasion: “I don’t actually care what occurs to Ukraine a technique or one other.” Sadly, Vance elected to not seem earlier than our editorial board to elucidate his indefensible embrace of Trump’s Massive Lie or make clear the place he stands on Ukraine, abortion restrictions, home violence in opposition to girls or different issues. With Tim Ryan, voters know what they’ll get and who he’s — a gradual voice for the working class, a bipartisan collaborator, and somebody laser-focused on manufacturing innovation to maintain jobs and earnings in Ohio. That’s why Tim Ryan deserves your vote for U.S. Senate. Early voting within the Nov. 8 election has begun. In a 12 months of harmful and horrible Senate candidates, JD Vance tends to get misplaced within the shuffle behind the holding weapons to girls’s heads, Herschel Walker and canine serial killer/Hitler’s automotive aficionado Dr. Oz, however JD Vance recommended that girls keep in abusive marriages, helps Russia over Ukraine, needs a nationwide abortion ban, and has an agenda that’s each bit as excessive as Walker’s. Rep. Ryan is the form of bipartisan, state, and district-first public servant that the nation’s corporatized political media claims don’t exist anymore. Ryan has been in a position to run shut in his election by being real with the individuals of Ohio. Ryan’s marketing campaign is similar to Lt. Governor John Fetterman’s in Pennsylvania. Each Ryan and Fetterman are well-known and widespread blue-collar candidates of their respective states. The distinction between Fetterman’s lead and Ryan being tied is Pennsylvania’s slight Democratic lean versus Ohio’s Republican tilt. Ohio could be harmed in the event that they had been to interchange outgoing Sen. Rob Portman with JD Vance. The candidate who’s greatest suited to signify the Buckeye State’s curiosity is Rep. Tim Ryan.   Mr. Easley is the managing editor. He’s additionally a White Home Press Pool and a Congressional correspondent for PoliticusUSA. Jason has a Bachelor’s Diploma in Political Science. Overwhelmed
Life has been mentally exhausting lately. Work has almost been overwhelming in my life. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my job. Sometimes I just feel like its consuming my life. I only work 4-5 days a week. I feel like its all I talk about and all I know in my area.
So I'm from Maryland. I moved to Fredericksburg, VA in 2018. I was 23, turning 24 later that year. At the end of 2018, I met who is now my girlfriend. I was working at a pool hall and she was building a store in the mall across the street from my work. Her and her crew are from the grand state of Ohio. Long story longer, I'm now living in Ohio.
Since being here, I haven't really ventured out much. We're right outside of Youngstown, which is the halfway point between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I've been through Pittsburgh and on the outskirts of Cleveland but I've never been to either city.
I started my job before I was even completely moved up here from Maryland. I've now been there for 3 years and I don't remember the last time I requested off. I was supposed to request off this past Saturday and I forgot because I never do. A few months ago I got promoted to assistant bar manager, so now if I request off I feel like I'm inconveniencing my bosses because my position is literally right below the owners. It's like I've developed a severe "people pleaser" mentality. I know that sometime soon I'm going to need a small vacation because I can feel myself getting burnt out.
I want to spend great quality time with my girlfriend, go on adventures with her, and just have that bonding time. Right now we only hang out after work (she works 6 days a week) and on Sundays.
I'm just afraid of work consuming me. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

"We should all play chicken" Belly suggest as she finishes her third lap in the pool.
It was one of those rare days this summer where you, Jeremiah, Steven, Belly, and Conrad were all spending time together. Normally Belly was with Cam while Jeremiah and Steven worked at the country club and Conrad and you were always hanging out when he wasn't working with Cleveland. Conrad and you were best friends, had been since you two were little. But you secretly had feelings for him but didn't want to ruin things between you two so you kept quiet.
"I'm down just as long as y/n is my partner." Jeremiah replies to Belly before coming up from behind you and grabbing you by the waist and spinning you around in the water making you erupt in a fit of giggles. He eventually lets you go so you can climb onto his shoulders.
Once you're on Jeremiah's shoulder, you glance over to Conrad who's already staring at you and Jeremiah with a blank expression. You raise your eyebrow at him, but he ignores you and looks away.
"I think I'm going to get out actually, you guys play without me." Conrad says before swimming over to the ladder and stepping out. You watch him dry off and head inside.
"That was weird." Steven mumbles as he helps Belly on to his shoulder. You nod your head in agreement and then you guys start the game.
You and Jeremiah won twice and Belly and Steven once before they all got out to get ready to leave. Belly was going to putt putt with Cam and Jeremiah and Steven were going to a party. Susannah and Laurel were gone, so it would be just you and Conrad home. You decide to shower before quickly getting dressed into Conrads's cousins sweatshirt and shorts and going to his room.
You knock softly on his door. "Can I come in?"
Conrad gets up and opens his door for you, holding it open long enough to let you in and then he shuts the door behind you.
It wasn't your first time in his room, but you could never get used to the comfortable aura his room always gave you. It was neat, he was always good at keeping his room clean. Your favorite part of it was the picture he had of you two when you were both sixteen. It was of you and him at the boardwalk, his arm around your shoulder and he was smiling down at you. You had the same one in your room too. You smiled softly at the picture before turning to look at him. "Everything okay?"
Conrad looks at you and nods his head. "Never better." he says, and I immediately knew he was lying. I shake my head and go to sit next to him on his bed.
"What happened to us not lying to each other?" you ask. You can hear Conrad sigh softly before tugging you down to lay next to him. You happy oblige and turn your body to face his.
"It's stupid." Conrad mumbles leaning his head against yours. You and Conrad were no stranger to cuddling together, but this felt more intimate than that. You felt nervous all of a sudden.
"Try me." you manage to get out. Your head was spinning having him this close to you. It took everything in you to not kiss him.
He sighs again and it feels like eternity before he speaks. "Seeing you on Jeremiah's shoulders pissed me off. I just... I don't know. I know you and I are just friends and I have no right to be jealous, but I couldn't help it."
"Jeremiah is like a brother to me." you reassure him. "The only guy I've ever wanted to be with is you."
You watch as Conrads nervous expression turns into a smile which makes you smile in return. "I really want to kiss you right now," he says.
"Then do it."
His lips touch yours almost immediately. The kiss was sweet and gentle, everything you imagined your first time kissing Conrad would be.
Conrad flips you both to where he's on top of you, holding himself up with one hand as his other one is intertwined with yours. His lips travel down your neck and you can't help but to moan softly when he starts to lightly suck on your sweet spot before returning back to your lips.
"You're so beautiful," Conrad whispers in between soft kisses. "I love seeing you wear my clothes."
"Conrad..." you breathe out, your voice barely above a whisper. You were a flustered mess. You couldn't believe that this was happening, that Conrad was finally yours. And now that you had him, you immediately wanted more.
"I think we should go all the way."
"Are you sure you want to?" Conrad stops kissing you to search your face for any sign that you regretted your words. You didn't at all, you needed him.
You nod your head before telling him yes and this is all he needs before he's back to kissing you, this time the kisses aren't as gentle as the first ones. they were sloppy, both of you trying to convey years of pinning for the other in just one kiss.
"Tell me if you want to stop and we will, okay?" Conrad reassures. You mumble out a soft okay.
You watch as he sits up, quickly taking his shirt off before coming leaning back down to help you with yours. You didn't have a bra on, so your chest was bare.
You watch Conrad's facial expression, suddenly nervous about being so exposed in front of him. "So damn perfect." he says and suddenly your nervousness was at ease. He always was good at saying the right things.
Conrad kisses your lips once again, but this time he makes his way down your body kissing and licking your neck and collarbones before reaching your boobs. You moan when he licks and sucks on your left nipple while softly squeezing the other one. He repeats his actions with the other one and you were already such a moaning mess for him.
He grins softly up at you before continuing to kiss down your body again until he's finally down there and your breathing hitches in your throat when he places a soft kiss on your clit. "Already so wet for me." he says, and you blush hard.
Your hips buck off of the bed whenever his mouth is on you fully, and he softly pushes your thighs back on to the bed and holds them in place. You can barely think straight as Conrad sucks and licks your clit before he enters two of his fingers slowly inside of you.
You moan loudly, your hands finding their way into Conrads's hair and tugging slightly causing him to groan. The vibrations sent shocks through your body, and you knew you were already close. "I'm going to cum." you manage to get out. He quickens his pace on you, his finger entering you faster and his tongue quickening at a godly speed. Your grip in his hair tightens and you see stars as your orgasm quickly approaches. Conrad licks your mess up making your legs shake at the sensitivity.
You lay there catching your breath as Conrad climbs back up to you, kissing you softly before reaching over to grab a condom.
"If I hurt you or do anything that doesn't feel good to you, stop me. I just want you to feel good." Conrad says. You smile softly at him and nod.
You lower your eyes and watch as Conrad puts the condom on before he lines himself up with your entrance, slowly pushing himself into you. You both moan at the feeling of him inside you. He stills his movement so you can adjust to his size and so he doesn't cum too fast. He didn't think he had ever been so turned on in his life.
Conrad pulls out of you at an agonizingly slow, making you desperate for more.
"Con-Conrad." you splutter. "More, please." He pulls back enough to where his tip is the only thing inside of you before he roughly slams inside of you. You moan out his name loudly, thankful no one was home or you two would have been caught.
He thrust in and out of you, both of you whimpering and moaning. Conrad can't keep his eyes off of you, you were a panting, beautiful mess and he was struggling not to cum right then and there at the sight of you.
Conrad kisses you hard, his tongue sliding in your mouth as his thrust continue the same quick pace. He was everywhere all at once and you felt like you would combust. Conrad slides his hand down your body before he starts making circular motions on your clit. Your second orgasm already approaching fast.
"I'm close again," you tell him, but he already knew. He could feel you clinching hard against his cock, and it was a struggle for him not to finish, but he needed to give you another orgasm first. His fingers move faster on your clit and you're back to moaning his name again. It sounded like pure heaven to Conrad.
"Cum with me, baby." Conrad groans. You wrap your legs tightly around him, wrapping your arms around his back as Conrad starts to thrust up deeper inside you hitting your g-spot.
"Fuck, I'm cumming, I'm cumming." you manage out, your voice barely audible as your orgasm hits you. Without realizing, your hands scratch down Conrad's back causing him to groan.
The feeling of you cumming and scratching his back was too much for Conrad, he immediately cums right after you with a loud moan.
Conrad gives you one last kiss before he collapses on top of you, careful not to hurt you. You both take a moment to let your breathing return to normal before he slowly pulls out of you and takes the condom off and tosses it into the trash.
You get dressed and watch as he lays back down on his bed after getting dressed too, he lays next to you, pulling you down onto his chest. There was a comfortable silence between the two of you, both of you taking what you two just did in. You two were basking in happiness.
"You're the only one I've wanted to be with too, by the way." Conrad says breaking the silence. "I'm sorry I got jealous."
You look up at him and laugh. "If this happens when you're jealous, you should be jealous more often."
Conrad laughs too before planting a soft kiss on the top of your head. You both end up falling asleep in each other's arms happier than ever that you two finally are together.

Labor Day Movie Favorites
For most, Labor Day is a long weekend that closes out summer with final beach trips and BBQs, but the Grover Cleveland-enacted Federal holiday was designed as a celebration of the American worker, following a period of both (slow but steady) progress on worker’s rights, and serious strife to get there.
So, once you finish grilling and hanging by the pool, if you want to get a taste of the true meaning of the holiday, here are my favorite Labor Day appropriate movies.
Tumblr media
9-5 (1980) - Not only a childhood favorite, thanks to frequent cable airings, this movie was Dolly Parton's big screen debut. The story of three secretaries—the other two played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin—who take their boss hostage and improve their workplace in the process, not only holds up, it's still sadly relevant four decades later.
Norma Rae (1979) - The quinessential movie about unionizing. Sally Field won a well-deserved Oscar for her performance as a cog in the wheel of a dirty cotton mill. It's harrowing, poignant, absolutely entertaining, and 100% would never get made today as a big-budget theatrical release.
Working Girl (1988) - Melanie Griffith as a secretary who gets exploited by her boss, is a you-go-girl sort of classic that, once again, holds up all too well, showing how little things have changed at the top, despite decades of supposed progress.
Silkwood (1983) - This based-on-a-true-story account of a worker trying to fight a corrupt system in a plutonium plant is part true crime, part labor horror story, and stars Meryl Strep, Kurt Russell and Cher. What more could you want?
Roger & Me (1989) - Yes, he is now insufferable and problematic, but this first funny, poignant and powerful Michael Moore documentary about the fate of his hometown of Flint, Michigan is a love letter to how union labor built middle-class America.
Support the Girls (2018) - Regina Hall turns in a brauvura performance as a shift manager at a Hooters-esque restaurant, just trying to take care of her staff, in and out of the restaurant .
Pride (2014) - Yes, this is also on my Perfect for Pride list, but this great UK dramedy about the early ‘80s London LGBTQ community coming together to support the 1984 miners strike in Britain is fantastic, and worth watching any time of year.
Hidden Figures (2016) - This slice of history focuses on the brains behind some of America's most celebrated accomplishments. NASA's unsung math heroes were almost all Black women, working in a world that denied their intellect, while at the same time exploiting it. A fantastic cast telling a great story, especially if you ignore the White Savior elements.
Collective (2019) - A documentary that plays like a thriller, this Romanian story of government fraud and coverup is a masterpiece.
Made in Dagenham (2010) - This generally underrated gem stars Sally Hawkins as an auto plant worker in the UK, who protests Ford’s treatment of female employees.
Erin Brockovich (2000) - The movie that won Julia Roberts her Oscar has been mocked for its specific ticks and Brockovich's over-the-top persona, but this real-life story of corporate malfeasance and uncaring is suitably harrowing.
Harlan County, USA (1976) - Speaking of harrowing, this documentary profiling a violent, year-long Kentucky mine strike is edge-of-your-seat tense and definitely holds up.
North Country (2005) - Charlize Theron stars in another based-on-a-true-story tale as Lois Jenson, whose lawsuit against the parent company of her local iron mine helped usher in modern statutes against sexual harassment.
Dirty Dancing (1987) - Is this a stretch? Maybe. But if you're looking for a great class divide movie about how “the help” are treated as disposable, Dirty Dancing definitely qualifies.
American Factory (2019) - A more modern take on labor relations, this story of a Chinese company that brings business to the U.S. is a fascinating look at class and culture conflict.
How Green Was My Valley (1941) - This Hays Code-era look at a coal mining strike was directed by John Ford and won the Best Picture Oscar.
The Pajama Game (1957) - What, you didn't remember that Doris Day's job in this jaunty musical was as a Union steward?
Matewan (1987) - Another movie based on a real coal mining strike, this one pits scabs, led by James Earl Jones, against striking West Virginia miners. The racial issues at play probably aren't highlighted enough, but this one is still well done, with some fantastic performances.
The Molly Maguires (1970) - Sean Connery and Richard Harris star in this harrowing coal mining tale, that illustrates the brutal tactics management went to, to keep workers from unionizing.
Horrible Bosses (2011) - Better than it probably should be thanks to great performances from Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, this strangers-on-a-train-style, dark comedy about doing away with some epicly bad bosses is entertaining.
Office Space (1999) - A comedy about white collar workplaces that holds up surprisingly well.
Gung Ho (1986) - This ‘80s Michael Keaton-Ron Howard comedy holds up less well as a movie, but is a solid time capsule of exactly where American workers were in the Reagan era, both in terms of labor relations and general economic Xenophobia.
Salt of the Earth (1954) - Another mining movie, this time zinc, with a strong female perspective that is rare, particulary in the time this one was made.
Blue Collar (1978) - Richard Pryor plays it straight in this story of union excess and petty corruption co-starring Harvey Keitel.
Newsies! (1992) - Yep. This musical starring a teenage Christian Bale is absolutely about child labor practices and how collective action, and a couple jazzy musical numbers, can change your fate.
BONUS: What NOT to Watch this Labor Day, or Ever…
Tumblr media
Labor Day (2013) - I can only imagine Jason Reitman had blackmail material on Kate Winslet to get her to star in this absolutely awful "romance" between a kidnapper and his victim. Run, don't walk, away from this one, which is not even so bad it’s good. It’s just bad.

Today we remember the passing of Jani Lane who Died: August 11, 2011 in Woodland Hills, California
Jani Lane (born John Kennedy Oswald; February 1, 1964 – August 11, 2011) was an American recording artist and the lead vocalist, frontman, lyricist and main songwriter for the glam metal band Warrant. From Hollywood, California, the band experienced success from 1989 to 1996 with five albums reaching international sales of over 10 million. Lane left Warrant in 2004 and again in 2008 after a brief reunion. Lane also released a solo album, Back Down to One, in 2003, and the album Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner with a new group, Saints of the Underground, in 2008. Lane contributed lead vocals and songwriting to various projects throughout his career.
Lane was born John Kennedy Oswald (later changed to John Patrick Oswald), on February 1, 1964 in Akron, Ohio to Robert and Eileen Oswald. He was raised in Brimfield with four older siblings: sisters Marcine Williams, Michelle Robinson and Victoria Ley, plus older brother Eric, already an accomplished guitarist. With sisters Micki and Vicky and brother Eric harmonizing and playing guitar, Lane taught himself to play drums, guitar and piano by ear by age five. He grew up listening to Cleveland rock station WMMS (100.7 FM "The Buzzard") and was introduced to a variety of music by his older siblings.
With connections from siblings Eric and Vicky in and around the music scene (and with his parents' help), Lane made a name for himself at a very young age. He played drums under the pseudonym "Mitch Dynamite" in clubs by age 11 and with a local band "Pokerface." By that time, his siblings had left for college or marriage, although Vicky was still active in the entertainment industry in northeast Ohio and southwest Florida. Due to Vicky's numerous connections, Lane was able to network with industry execs in pursuit of his dream. Lane graduated from Field High School, in Mogadore, Ohio, a nearby city to Brimfield in 1982.
Lane is credited as the vocalist/drummer on Warrant's Latest and Greatest CD. Throughout his career, Lane would sometimes play drums/acoustic guitar and piano with his band and played the drums in various formats and gigs with other musicians.
After high school, Lane joined the band Cyren, featuring vocalist Skip Hammonds, guitarist John Weakland, bassist Don Hoover (and later Rusty Fohner) with Lane on drums and vocals. Many of Cyren's shows opened for a popular local band called Risque'. When their bassist, Al Collins, noticed Lane's vocal talents, he convinced Lane to form a new band they eventually called Dorian Gray. The new band also included Steven Chamberlin on drums and Dave Chamberlin on lead guitar. Dorian Gray was designed to have Lane as the lead vocalist and to perform original material, but Lane wasn't ready to be the lead singer and quickly returned to the drum kit. Billy Denmead was hired as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. After only a few shows, Collins left the band, vowing to put a band together when Lane was ready to be a lead vocalist.
Lane moved to Florida in 1983 with Dorian Gray. He eventually formed Plain Jane with Collins and Chamberlin, adopting the stage name "Jani Lane" (Chamberlin would also soon rechristen himself Steven Sweet). He took the name "Jani" from his German grandparents, who spelled his name "Jani" and pronounced it "Yay-nee."
Lane began vocal training with vocal coach/trainer Ron Feldmann, who introduced him to Creative Engineering, Inc. in Orlando. Lane worked there as a programmer of the animatronic character Dook LaRue, the drummer for The Rock-afire Explosion. His vocal debut was at The Station in Fern Park, Florida.
Lane, Collins, and Chamberlin recorded the first Plain Jane four-track demos at their rented house in Winter Park, Florida. Although reluctant to leave Florida, they rented a trailer in the spring of 1984 and moved to California with hopes of landing a record deal. They were broke by the time they landed at the Hollywood Bowl Motel and resorted to making sandwiches with mustard packets while taking turns calling their parents for cash.
Struggling to make ends meet as a musician, Lane resorted to working in a pornographic video warehouse. The band, along with a new road crew and a few girlfriends, pooled their wages and lived in a two-bedroom condominium rented by new Plain Jane guitarist Paul Noble. At one time there were 13 people living in the crowded space.
By 1985, Plain Jane had become a regular feature on the Los Angeles club circuit and opened many shows for a band called Warrant. Plain Jane's bassist and guitarist both left the band on the same day Warrant's singer and drummer quit. Erik Turner, who had founded Warrant in July 1984, was impressed by Plain Jane's songwriting and vocal performance and invited Lane and Sweet to jam with his band at Hollywood's db Sound in September 1986.
After generating notoriety on the club circuit, Warrant began to attract the attention of record labels. Following an abortive deal with A&M Records over a contribution to the soundtrack for the motion picture Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, the band signed with Columbia Records. The Columbia deal came via the partnering of Warrant and manager Tom Hulett, known for working with The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, The Moody Blues and others. Hulett became Lane's mentor and friend until Hulett's death from cancer in 1993.
As lead vocalist with Warrant, Lane wrote all of the material for the band's 1989 debut double platinum album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, including four Top 40 hit singles: "Down Boys", "Sometimes She Cries", "Big Talk" and the No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Heaven." The album peaked at no. 10 on The Billboard 200. Lane also wrote four Top 40 hit singles ("Cherry Pie," "I Saw Red," "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and "Blind Faith") for the second album, the 1990 double platinum Cherry Pie, which peaked at no. 7 on the Billboard 200. Lane also co-wrote and performed with Warrant the song "The Power" in the 1992 movie Gladiator. In 1992, Warrant released Dog Eat Dog, their gold third album, which peaked at no. 25 on the Billboard 200.
Lane left Warrant in March 1993 to pursue a solo career. He returned six months later, helping the band secure a new record with Tom Lipsky of CMC International. Warrant recorded Ultraphobic in 1995, Belly to Belly in 1996, Greatest & Latest in 1999 and a cover album, Under the Influence, in 2001.
Due to personal and business disagreements, Lane left Warrant again in 2004. In January 2008, the band's agent, The William Morris Agency, issued a new photograph of the band with Lane prominently featured, confirming his return to the band. It was the first time that all original members had been in the band since 1993. The band's first show with all original members was in May 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee. Warrant performed a series of shows during the summer of 2008, but by September, the band and Lane agreed to move forward separately due to "too much water under the bridge." Warrant and Lane both continued to perform Lane's compositions live and Lane continued to write for himself and other artists.
Lane became involved in acting in the early 1990s. He made a brief appearance in Caged Fear and appeared in High Strung in 1991.
In 1993, Lane started working on his first solo project. Titled "Jabberwocky," the album represented a significant musical departure from previous work. Between 1997 and 2000, demos of Lane's solo material began surfacing on the Internet, with some bids on eBay reaching an estimated $100 per copy. In 2002, Lane decided to postpone the "Jabberwocky" project and released a new project as his debut solo album. The "Jabberwocky" project remained unreleased.
Lane's official debut solo album, Back Down to One, was released on June 17, 2003 through Z Records and in the U.S. in 2006 on Immortal/Sidewinder Records. It carried a "power pop" sound more closely aligned with the sound of Warrant than "Jabberwocky." Shortly after the album's release, Lane was admitted to a rehabilitation center for alcohol and drug-related exhaustion.
In the fall of 2004, Lane contributed lead vocals for the first ever theme song to a novel, Billy McCarthy's "The Devil of Shakespeare," along with James Young from Styx, Ron Flynt of 20/20 and Chip Z'Nuff of Enuff Z'Nuff.
Lane contributed vocals on the track "Bastille Day" and "2112 Overture/Temples of Syrinx" for the Magna Carta 2005 Rush tribute album "Subdivisions."
Lane had success with the "VH1 Classic Metal Mania: Stripped" discs, where the acoustic version of "I Saw Red" was included on disc 1, a new acoustic swinging version of "Cherry Pie" featured on disc 2, and a new acoustic version of "Heaven" featured on disc 3.
In 2005, Lane became a fan favorite on the popular VH1 series Celebrity Fit Club 2. His problems with alcohol were highlighted and many viewers supported his efforts at recovery.
With the reissue and U.S. release of "Back Down to One" in 2006, Lane attempted to restart his version of Warrant. Although "Back Down to One" was credited as a solo release, Lane assembled a new touring band called "Jani Lane's Warrant." The band's first shows in Michigan were stopped by legal action from former bandmates objecting to his use of the Warrant logo on his posters. Lane subsequently continued touring without the Warrant name and logo.
Lane lent his vocals to numerous tribute CDs during the 2000s. In 2007, he released a solo cover album titled "Photograph," featuring a collection of his tribute contributions.
Keri Kelli and Lane wrote a song for Alice Cooper titled "The One That Got Away." It was recorded by Cooper on his 2008 record Along Came a Spider. Lane also finished work on a side project, Saints of the Underground, which included Kelli and Bobby Blotzer and Robbie Crane, (both from Ratt). Their album, Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner, was released on April 22, 2008 by Warrior Records, and was mixed by producer/engineer Andy Johns, who'd worked with The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. The album featured additional bass work by Chuck Wright (Quiet Riot, House of Lords). The band was originally called "Angel City Outlaws" when they posted their first two promo singles, "Bruised" and "Exit."
In summer 2010, Lane toured with Great White, filling in for singer Jack Russell, who was recuperating from surgery after suffering internal complications.
On August 11, 2011, the Los Angeles Police Department and local news stations announced that Lane was found dead of acute alcohol poisoning at a Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, California at the age of 47. Lane was pronounced dead by fire department personnel who responded to a call shortly before 5:30 p.m.

asked taako to teach him how to swim in secret. taako obliges
still stays in the shallow end as a precautionary measure
brings spare towels and cool drinks to be helpful
Angus

solved the case of the missing pool employee snacks (it was taako)
keeps books in a specially vacuum sealed bag so he can read them in the water
Davenport

surprisingly good at the backstroke
Magnus
Maintenance
Cleans pool on a regular basis. always finds random things that get left behind. one of those things was merle
master of marco polo and king of cannon balls
kids ask him to inflate all of their flotation devices. he obliges
if you unsuspectingly fall asleep on a floaty, he will sneak up behind you and flip you into the water
his preferred swim stroke is literally running from the gate, leaping off the edge, flying over half the length of the pool, and causing such a tidal wave that everyone around gets soaked within a twenty meter radius
