The Greatest Commandment and Being a Practical Christian
Yikes! It's Friday again!! Where does the time go? I have such good intentions on getting this done by Wednesday and, BAM!, before I know it, I'm rushing to get it out on Friday. Oh well, it's been a good week for me, just busier than I thought!! How about you? Did you have a good week... I hope so. Any God Moments? It was great seeing so many folks last Sunday. We discussed Mark 12:28-34: The Greatest Commandment. "The most important one... is this: ... Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." We talked about loving our neighbors and examples as how our church does that. Our Mission and Outreach Ministry is one of the best! Wake Forest Presbyterian Church is "A Doing Church". We do so much for so many, but even in doing all that we do, there is always room for more. A lot of us come to church and feel that we are doing enough... but we are reminded by this Bible verse, that it's really not. As one of our classmates said, "We've been saved, but so what? We need to do something as Christians and as church members." What else can you do? There's so much you can be involved with. There are so many ways you can be involved with our church. Some examples are, Habitat for Humanity, our Community Garden, the Blood Drives, Brown Bag & More, Family Promise... just to name a few. Reach out to our Mission and Outreach Ministry, I know they'd be happy to talk to you about all of the services and opportunities for you to serve the Lord. When you think about it, to be a true Christian means that you need to give of yourself... afterall, God gave us the ultimate gift, and Jesus gave his life so we can live...and love! So, get involved... Live the Greatest Commandment. Show that you "Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. ... and that you Love your neighbor as yourself." There really is no commandment greater than these. Prayers, Concerns, and Joys for this week: I continue to ask that we keep my friend and her family in our prayers. Grief is all-consuming and they are trying to come to terms with everything that has happened in the past month and a half. Their lives are changed forever, so may God bless them and keep them in his loving arms and guide them through the pain and sorrow, into a place of peace and understanding. May he give them the strength to move forward on the path that he has laid before them. A classmate was happy to report that her friend's husband is doing very well after his quadruple bypass surgery. However she does ask that we keep her husband in our prayers as he deals with an anuerysm. May God be with both her husband and her friend's husband, and may he provide them and their caregivers with the knowledge and strength so that they may both heal from their issues. May he guide them on a path to healthy living and enjoyment for many years to come. A prayer of thanksgiving was prayed for a new couple who are thankful for the process they've had as they move to North Carolina. God has blessed them in so many ways, and they know that he has lead them to where they are supposed to be. Praise be to God! Another classmate is asking for prayers as she is in need of medical treatment, and will be taking a leave of absence from work. God, please give her the hope and courage to face each day. Comfort her in her pain and bless her with healing. Provide her the strength she needs as she travels this journey, and may she know that she is not alone, as there are so many friends and loved ones who are here to help. As always, I ask that we keep one another in our prayers. So many have prayers that are not mentioned, but are needed just as much. Many of us struggle to share our needs, but it is important that we raise these unasked requests to God so that he may provide to each that which is needed. May we all feel the love and care from our church family and friends. Sincerely, Gayle P.S.: Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads out there! I hope each one of you is spoiled rotten by your kids...after all, I'm sure you did a bit of spoiling with them... It's time for them to return the favor! ;0) Enjoy your day, but remember to come to church to praise the greatest Father of all... see y'all Sunday!!
