https://www.harpersbazaar.com.sg/gallery/90s-ad-campaigns/
The Versace campaign posters from the 90s are some of my favourite pictures because they’re so iconic (and I love the colours) but also so stemmed in that perfect ‘girl next door’ image that was being pushed on to young girls - I just feel like it’s a good example of that toxic body image culture from the 90s - it kinda speaks to body standards for girls at that time.
https://theimpression.com/versace-spring-2021-ad-campaign/
Versace campaign imagery from 2021 - the contrast to that of the 90s, the bright vividness but also the way nothing seems to of changed in terms of the beauty standards Versace still holds as a brand and expects from their consumer market :/
https://www.corinneday.co.uk/press/123/
An interesting article on the heroine chic body ideal of the 90s and how the fashion industry had supposedly “moved on” (although it these impossible beauty standards of the fashion industry seem ever prevalent still today - just look at the 2021 Versace campaign) “Lucinda Chambers fashion director of Vogue magazine. notes the change of mood: “We have moved on from the waif. she savs. "Fashion has returned to a greater femininity”
http://officemagazine.net/helmut-langs-complete-campaign
Helmut Lang more recent campaign poster - obsessed with the boldness, the juxtaposition of colour on b&w - visually satisfying and an amazing fashion campaign
https://theglossarymagazine.com/fashion/fashion-campaigns-ss-2021/
Prada campaign - so simple but a bit different to other fashion campaigns because of the use of text annotation
https://anneofcarversville.com/fashion/2020/4/14/abby-champion-in-diamonds-are-a-girls-best-friend-by-gregory-harris-in-vogue-paris
Virginie Benarroch styles model and Gregory Harris captures her channeling Marilyn Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” - “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend"  for the March 2020 issue of Vogue Paris - I love this so much the design so perfectly reflects the time it’s inspired by so much so that when I first saw it, I thought it was an authentic image from vogue in the 50s.
https://www.itsnicethat.com/features/yolk-magazine-publication-graphic-design-180219
Magazine spreads from Yolk mag in the 90s-2000s - so OBsessed with this visual style and the way this is not replication a trend but actually authentic design from the time - so unique and fun - also the meaning behind it - the platform they were giving to Asian Americans (being a solely Asian run and designed magazine featuring only Asians) at a time when there was so little representation in western media and pop culture
https://www.nytimes.com/1982/05/09/magazine/the-new-asian-immigrants.html
Article from the NY times I found when looking at Asians in America in the 90s/2000s after looking at Yolk magazine - ”..their influence is already spreading rapidly, from the concert music we listen to, to the foods we eat and how we prepare them, to the clothes we wear, to the way we decorate our homes, to the sense of revitalization that Asians have given to scores of urban communities across the country, to a hard-driving entrepreneurial spirit that America hasn’t seen in decades”.
https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2016/11/130323/vintage-ads-90s-fashion-teen-magazines#slide-8
Old advertisements/campaigns for mainstream fashion companies Doc Martins, Claires and Macy’s - in love with this authentic design style from the 2000s - finding it so interesting how this style is reappearing in pop culture today and becoming trendy again.
http://traffic-magazine.com/blog/comme-des-garcons/
Come des Garcons poster - Really cool manipulation of texture to create art - scrunched paper with face printed on paper - changes the meaning and feel of the whole design - something I’d love to try.
https://www.dazeddigital.com/fashion/article/29666/1/jacquemus-uses-childhoood-picture-of-himself-for-ss16-ad
Jacquemus campaign poster - I was just really interested by this design seeing as it has nothing to do with the collection/fashion itself - “This season the designer chose not to show clothes but to translate his creative vision using innocent shots of friends as kids,”
https://ivyhedberg.com/doc-martens
A more recent poster I found for the Doc Martins campaign/advertising to compare to the one from the 2000s - such a move from this bright, young, spacey/intergalactic style to monochrome, pops of ionic yellow, collage aesthetic.
https://fashionmagazine.com/style/fashion-magazine-cover-archive-the-1990s/
Looking at old magazine covers from the 90s, the colours and typography but also the way this particular cover image of a mother and child embracing, contrasts to a more recent vogue cover of two people kissing with masks on - a reflection of the current time and the pandemic the world endured.

HALLOWEEN, BUT MAKE IT FASHION
Por Josefa Lavandero
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Research into 5 trends: photoshop mood boards
Neon
Tumblr media
Research on trend
Neon has been seen both at festivals, Universities and in the love island villa. Fluorescent clothing was popular in a great deal of designer catwalks in 2019, designers such as Gucci, Versace and Prada reflect neon clothing to great extent. While neutrals, pastels and darks have been dominating fashion at designer and high-street level in previous years, the recent surge of neon has led to modern clothes having a comparison to the 80s. However this isn't the first time neon has returned, their was a temporary return in the early 2000s with thanks to Paris Hilton and Lyndsay Lohan.
More specifically, in 2007 neon exploded as the fresh new rave indie-electronica, this meant that music gained a new scene. In recent times neon seems to still have an impact, as to search neon on ASOS would bring up over 1000 options, highlighting its demand by consumers (Why neon is this years festival fashion, BBC News)
 Gender Neutral
Gender neutral means to not refer to either sex but only to people in general (Merrium Webster Dictionary)

Maison Margiela's SS 19: Provocatively androgynous
John Galliano debut his work for Maison Margiela at Paris fashion week, which consisted of gender neutral fashion that embraces individuality. Even though the event was based on womenswear, the collection involved both male and female models in deconstructed silhouettes that were highly influenced by modern avant- garde.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fashion ensembles were referred to as sliced-up experiments. The exhibition included lace detailing on shirts and PVC inserts to topsy- turvy suits which turned heads in Paris. This could of been because of the sculptural quality or the provocation explanation of gender neutral fashion. (Kalina Nedelcheva, Maisons Margiela's SS 19)

Gucci Might Settle Their Tax Evasion Case Out of Court
Last year, when Business of Fashion reported that Kering, the parent company of Gucci, would likely face trial for tax evasion, jaws in the fashion world collectively dropped. Milan prosecutors alleged that Gucci owed Italian tax authorities €1.4 billion in unpaid taxes on revenue claimed between 2010 and 2016. This week, Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore reported that a settlement for the case might be on the horizon. WWD reports that, “If Kering does settle for that amount, it would be one of the biggest-ever settlements with the Italian tax authorities.” In 2014, Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada paid upwards of 400 million euros to settle a tax evasion case, which suggests the practice of fashion labels skimping taxes is relatively common practice within the industry. Sofia Richie to Launch an Extremely Kardashian-inspired Klothing Line
Sofia Richie, perhaps best known for lounging on a beach beside her paramour, Scott Disick, and his ex-wife Kourtney Kardashian, is bringing her entertainment industry pedigree to the fashion world. Richie’s new line, called Sofia Stone (after her middle name, natch), will be a 12-piece capsule collection all priced under $80USD. The only visual evidence of the line so far is one a fashion illustration depicting a paper doll dressed in a very skimpy early 2000s boob-tube top paired with wide leg trouser pants; looking almost identical to an outfit Kanye might dress Kim in. The collection will also include  bodysuits, crop tops and suits. “I’m excited to shoot this collection and bring [my followers] these glamorous photos so they can fall in love with the clothes as much as I did,” Richie told WWD. Spoken like a true influencer. (WWD)

H&M Launches a Tool on their Website That Lets You See Where Clothing is Made
On April 23rd, H&M launched a ‘transparency layer’ on their website, which allows anyone online shopping to see interesting details about the garment including “production country, supplier names, factory names and addresses as well as the number of factory workers.” According to a press release, the brand claims that, “By sharing extended details on where our garments are made we make it easier for customers to make more informed choices when shopping.” H&M is positioning the move as a push in a more sustainable direction, however being honest about where and how products are manufactured is not the same thing as actually manufacturing items in a sustainable way. Lest we forget, H&M is still the same company that the New York Times reported has $4.3 billion dollars worth of unsold product. Now that they’re so committed to ‘transparency’, they might want to start tackling their overproduction of goods. (Press release)

Asics are…Cool Now?
Asics, aka the extremely dadcore running shoe brand known for their gel sole technology, has launched a new collaboration with Vivienne Westwood. The blood red sneakers feature Asics signature (swipe) logo with a small Vivienne Westwood orb logo adorning the heel. Though Asics tend to be prized for their performance over their appearance, the chunky, cartoonish sole is right on trend. “Asics are brilliant technicians known for their expertise, they are the best in their field. We love the look of their trainers because they are form following function, which attracted us to this collaboration. We wanted to bring together fashion and function,” Andreas Kronthaler, Westwood’s husband and creative director of the brand toldWWD. Two sneaker styles (the red ss well as a white style) will launch on April 27th, with three more styles dropping in July. (WWD)
