For a Fantasy theme celebrating the advent of Fantasy Faire in Second Life, I generated a fuqtonne of hot boys in fae guise for the poster; lots of different prompts, but dragons and dragonflies were common motifs, with pre-Raphaelite and Victorian influences, and the style of Pierre et Gilles for a lot of them.

Lies and arbor gold
Tumblr media
Petyr picked up his quill again. "We shall serve him lies and Arbor gold, and he'll drink them down and ask for more, I promise you."
He is serving me lies as well, Sansa realized.

Song
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet:
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.
—Christina Rossetti 1862

I was in Italy for a competition in March and went to a Pre-Raphaelite exhibition there. My spine was acting up and the second half of the exhibition was pure agony, but I found the painting that inspired a thousand fanarts! The photos aren't great, because the lighting made it difficult to find a good angle. But here they are - Romeo and Juliet by Frank Dicksee!

THE ACCOLADE 1901 by EDMUND LEIGHTON
The artwork depicts a medieval scene of a knight being knighted by a queen. The painting exudes a sense of honor, bravery, and chivalry, capturing the essence of the medieval era. LEIGHTON effectively portrays the ideals and values of the time period, making this painting a timeless masterpiece.
The painting is divided into two main sections - the queen and her attendants on the left and the knight kneeling before her on the right. This composition creates a sense of balance and harmony, drawing the viewer's attention to the central figure of the knight.
The queen, with her outstretched arm, is the focal point of the painting, symbolizing her role as the bestower of honor and knighthood. The sword also represents the code of chivalry, which was the moral code followed by knights during the medieval era. The placement of the characters and the use of perspective also add depth and dimension to the painting, making it feel almost lifelike.
From the intricate patterns on the queen's gown to the folds in the knight's cloak, each element is meticulously painted, adding to the realism and beauty of the artwork. The facial expressions of the characters also convey emotions, with the queen looking stoic and regal, and the knight appearing humble and obedient. This level of detail is a testament to LEIGHTON'S skill as a painter and his dedication to capturing the essence of the medieval era.

MWW Artwork of the Day (4/4/24) Henry Holiday (British, 1839-1927) Dante and Beatrice (c. 1882-84) Oil on canvas, 142.2 x 203.2 cm. Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool UK
Henry Holiday was an English historical genre and landscape painter, stained-glass designer, illustrator and sculptor. He is considered to be a member of the Pre-Raphaelite school of art. This is considered to be his most important painting. It depicts an incident when Beatrice, having heard gossip relating to this, refuses to speak to him. The event is shown as Beatrice and two other women walk past the Santa Trinita Bridge in Florence. Beatrice wears a white dress and walks beside her friend Monna Vanna, with Beatrice's maidservant slightly behind.
