FFVII Remake Easter eggs and compilation continuity - Part 2: CRISIS CORE
RUDE BEING...RUDE
When Cloud and Aerith meet Rude in Sector 5 he unceremoniously asks if he’s “her new boy toy”, referring to Zack. Crisis Core established that the Turks knew Zack and were aware of his relationship with Aerith.

THE PUPPY
Stamp is a new element introduced in the Remake, which makes a mysterious appearance at the end of the game when Zack seemingly subverts his destiny. In Crisis Core Angeal used to refer to Zack as “puppy”.
“Are you Zack the puppy? My son wrote to me once about you, zero attention span, restless as a little puppy.”

BANORA WHITE
There are lots of billboards and flyers of “Banora White apple juice” around Midgar. Both Banora and its apples were introduced for the first time in Crisis Core and linked to Genesis.

ORPHANS
This may be not intentional but it’s still odd to be just a coincidence: one set of Crisis Core side missions involved some orphans who escaped from a Shinra “care facility”. In the Remake, the Leaf House is an orphanage and, according to the novel “Traces of two pasts”, it is under Shinra’s influence.
DATING
Just like in the OG, Aerith asks Cloud to be her bodyguard in exchange of one date. Her gesture is exactly the same of Zack’s when he asked her for one date.

SELLING FLOWERS
When Aerith and Cloud arrive in Evergreen Park, she mentions the time she used to sell flowers there, which happened 5 years before with Zack.
“You know, a long time ago, I used to sell flowers here.”

YOUR EYES
In Chapter 9 Aerith comments about Cloud’s beautiful mako eyes the same way she did with Zack. In the Japanese version, Cloud and Zack answer her with the same sentence:
Aerith: きれい (...) 瞳 [Beautiful (...) Eyes]
Zack/Cloud: 魔晄を浴びた者の瞳 ソルジャーの証だ [Eyes of those exposed to Mako, the mark of SOLDIER]

PINK DRESSES
In Crisis Core Zack asked Aerith to wear something pink when they'd meet again. Even though Aerith’s dress has always been pink since the OG, her new optional Wall Market dresses are pink as well.
“From now on, why don’t we make a promise every time we meet? (...) For example, when we meet, you always have to dress in pink.”

TRAINING ROOM
In Shinra HQ there’s a battle simulator where Zack and the other SOLDIERs used to train in CC.
SOLDIER PROJECT
During the meeting with the President and the Shinra executives in Chapter 16, Hojo mentions SOLDIER types G and S. He war referring to the two main projects behind the SOLDIER program - Hollander’s Project G and Hojo’s project S.
CC: “Jenova project G gave birth to Angeal and monsters like myself [Genesis]. Jenova project S used the remains of countless failed experiments to create a perfect monster [Sephiroth].”
7R: “We could have the Ancient reproduce. (...) I would start with candidates from SOLDIER. These would of course include S and G types.”

CELLULAR DEGRADATION
In Chapter 7 President Shinra points out that SOLDIERs usually die prematurely due to cellular degradation. Genesis, after being wounded in the battle simulator, started suffering of severe and irreversible cellular degradation.
“Once a SOLDIER, always a SOLDIER. Though not, alas, for very long. Accelerated cellular degradation being the most common cause of death by far.”

FALLEN ANGELS
While Sephiroth’s black wing was shown for the first time in Andvent Children some visual elements of the Remake recall elements from Crisis Core related to Genesis and Angeal.
KUNSEL
In Shinra HQ some troopers recognize Cloud and mention Kunsel, a SOLDIER and close friend of Zack’s.
“Cloud? You’re Cloud right? (...) We went through training together. (...) Hey, sit tight man - I’mma go get Kunsel.

BARRET’S LAST STAND
“Worst route ever. Gimme a suicidal last stand. At least - At least - at least that’d have an end!”
Barret says this when he reaches the 49th floor of Shinra HQ backstairs - SOLDIERs floor. It’s a reference to Zack’s last stand.

THE LIFESTREAM
After the defeat of Whisper Harbinger the protagonists end up in a place full of light and walk on a watery surface. The same happened in Crisis Core during Zack’s dream that foreshadowed his death, a representation of the Lifestream.

FREEDOM
Before entering the sincularity in Chapter 18, Aerith says that beyond the portal there’s “Freedom. Boundless, terrifying freedom. Like a great, never-ending sky.” These words are a callback to Zack’s iconic “The price of freedom is steep”.

THE SKY
In Crisis Core Aerith told Zack that she felt safe under the plate because the real sky frightened her. She reiterates this concept at the end of the Remake when she said “I miss it, the steel sky” (aka the plate), in Japanese "The sky, I hate it”.

ZACK’S LAST STAND
This scene is repeated shot-for-shot in Chapter 18.

This Week in History: The Manhattan Project
During this week in 1945, the world’s first atomic bomb is detonated in New Mexico. The top-secret Manhattan Project had succeeded.
Researchers had been working for decades to understand the nature of the atom. But that research took a new tone in the late 1930s, when radiochemists in Nazi Germany made a startling discovery: The nucleus of a uranium atom could be divided in such a way that it released energy. Some physicists began to worry that Germany would be the first to turn this knowledge into the development of a new, more powerful bomb.
You’ll recognize the name of one man who was worried: Albert Einstein wrote a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt, urging the President to “speed up the experimental work” for atomic energy through government support. FDR was cautious in his approach to the issue at first, but he got more serious after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Within a matter of weeks, FDR had tentatively authorized Vannevar Bush, head of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development, to pursue atomic research. The Manhattan Project was soon established under the Army Corps of Engineers.
Can you believe that 120,000 Americans were employed on the project—in secrecy? Most of these employees had no idea what they were really working on. Even Vice President Harry Truman did not know about the project . . . until he unexpectedly became President.
The story continues at the link in the comments.

Experimenting with Typography Layouts - ISTD Project
During my experimentations of linocut printing I realised that although my title relates to the conceptual purpose of my chosen subject area, I’m looking to develop the aesthetic appeal towards my typography so that I can portray the spaces between dialects and accents in a more interactive way, in order for the reader to engage with the final outcome.
On Adobe Illustrator I have used the anchor tool and direct selection tool to manipulate the lower case and upper case letters so that they intertwine with each other. The large blackens serif font is called ‘Compacta,’ and the sans font is called ‘Superclarendon (light italic).’ This is relevant to the way the reader interacts with the blending of letters in relation to the deeper meaning. I explored different ways to layout certain parts of a letter; such as the ball terminal on the letter ‘f,’ or hiding the leg of an ‘r’ inside the capital ‘r.’
Overall I really like the visual appearance of these experiments. now it is a matter of how I can develop further into the spacial experience of my subject matter through typography.

Summer Project
During summer I wanted to continue with the medium of collage after developing a deep appreciation for Mary Beth Edelson’s artistic technique.
As a subject area, Female Representation and imagery of women is a topic that I'm passionate about and can connect with as a young woman.
I decided to scroll through my Instagram feed one day and took screenshots of images that interested me, and I believed were interesting imagery in relation to being a woman. I took inspiration from editorial fashion and make up brands, photographic ‘selfies’, ‘influencers’, artists, nature, food, and self-expressive images such as tattoos. These were very experimental choices and purely random as to what I found on my feed that day, to challenge my creative process to create interesting faces that make up individual female characters.
I decided to also include ink sketches and mark-making with paint over the top of these collaged images, which introduces some experimental development towards mixed media opportunities that I would like to work towards.

Disney Should Rehire James Gunn For Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Disney Should Rehire James Gunn For Guardians of the Galaxy 3

An alt-right smear campaign has achieved its goal of getting Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn fired over behavior he’d long since apologized for – but it’s not too late for Disney to rehire him. The campaign rolled out in the lead-up to San Diego Comic-Con 2018, where Gunn was supposed to be announcing a new projectduring the Sony Pictures panel. Within mere hours of the calls for…

Open Studio Day (25/10/22) - ISTD Project
During this open studio day I was set the task of writing a rationale for my idea generation in relation to the brief I have chosen, which would then be pinned up on the wall for the class to discuss each other’s thought process and how we can give each other advice on where to explore next. My tutor influenced me to work in a group of three to help rationalise our own creative solutions. This was really helpful because I listened to other peers’ ideas for their own briefs, as well as my idea.
I wrote two rationales because I was torn between two ideas for my concept. The first idea is based around the exploration of British/London accents and how I can investigate the historical and social development of this subject in a typographic form. This idea was generated before the open studio day began. Then my second idea explores the development of urbanism in my hometown/borough of London, and how I can investigate my subject through primary research, in order to provide different perspectives that are comparable.
I explained to my peers that I was leaning towards the ‘accents idea’ because it’s more explorative in terms of forming a typographic solution. Additionally, I have options to research certain areas within accents; whether that’s Britain as a whole, or different areas of London because they are more personable than a memory map of my family’s area.
In regards to feedback from my peers, I was given positive responses to the concept of my idea. One of my peers provided an example of how a Scottish accent had been portrayed in a tweet on Twitter (a social media platform), which explores the comedic approach to how they pronounce certain words through written text. Another response to my rationale was about playing with sound waves and the way a word could be formed into the shape of the waves.
Overall this open studio day was insightful towards my creative approach. I now have the opportunity to experiment with different ways to form typography that communicates a chosen message through accents.
