Months, then years passed. Progess on the vaccination was slow. Caena still dreamed of her daughter every night.

So, Caena focused on finding a vaccine for herself and for all the townies of Strangerville. She tried to put Quaelle out of her mind. Everything slipped to the wayside - her job, her relationships, as she stressed over this vaccination.

The birth of Quaelle

Caena’s delivery labored on. Hours passed; Kylie cried. Eventually, Quaelle emerged - tiny, light blue, with dark eyes.

The doctors took Quaelle too quickly for Kylie and Caena to understand what was going on. Quaelle was kidnapped before their eyes.

“It’s for tests,” the doctors said. “It will only be a few weeks.”

But Caena knew. It would be years before she would see her child, if she was ever to see her at all.

Two years passed. One day, searching a back room of the Secret Lab for more evidence and research, she heard a faint crying sound. She followed the sound, and stumbled upon a tiny, disoriented toddler with blue skin and dark eyes.

Quaelle turned out to be a - challenge. She didn’t trust Kylie, didn’t trust any adult other than Caena, and even with Caena she hated bathtime, dinnertime, and any sort of potty time. She was distrustful, defiant, and rude.

Kylie: Caena, I hate seeing you like this. Caena: I know, I just... [Caena struggles to find words for how she feels] Kylie: We can have another baby. Caena: What? No! I want Quaelle back! Kylie: It doesn’t have to be like last time. We can have it at home - so the doctors don’t take - Caena: I said NO. What is wrong with you? Kylie: [In a hopeful tone] I-I’m sorry baby. What about the vaccine? How’s that going? Maybe working on that would make you feel... better?
